    Ok.

Hyde was pretty bad as the season wore on last year.  And Poyer really wasn't a lot better.  Rapp and Edwards should be a decent upgrade from our overall safety play last year.  If we can sign a D lineman or two in the next couple weeks, then come draft day take WR 1st round.  Trade up in the 2nd round for the best safety available.  And with whatever draft picks we have left bring in another WR and DL.  Beane hasn't exactly been cooking with his drafting of D Lineman.  Rousseau and Epenesa are solid, but not shown to be spectacular.  Although I think AJ is ready to be a boss this year.  And Rousseau makes plays.  He just disappears some games.  Has to be consistently good week in and week out.  Don't think he has greatness in him.  Although I would hope I am wrong.  Didn't Bruce Smith explode in 1988, which was his 4th season in the league, like Rousseau will be?

Albert Breer reported before the trade that prior to the Wilson signing Pickett said he was open to competition for the job. The minute Wilson was signed he cancelled on a workout with the WR’s. Went silent and was apparently pissed they were making Wilson the starter and going back on it being a “competition”.

They need to move on from Pickett. He isn’t/wasn’t the answer. Smart move instead of holding on for something that probably won’t happen. Wilson isn’t it either but he’s proven success in the league and is experienced. That’s all Pittsburgh need to be even more competitive.

Maybe Fields is the answer? Who knows. Going by Chicago’s tenure, probably not either but at least they’re trying to fix solutions. Can’t ever fault them for that.

The Steelers get a lot of respect in the football world.  They are usually competitive.  But I think you are giving them too much credit.  I thought they put a pretty weak team on the field against us in the wild card game.  I did not think the final score was indicative of how bad we beat them.  I have a hard time seeing either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields doing a lot on a game in game out basis in the AFC North.  But its always cool to see QB's on new teams.

I thought Kenny Pickett was excellent at Pitt his senior season.  He didn't show the same swag with the Steelers for whatever reason.  Although the game winning drive on I believe Christmas Eve two years ago against the Raiders in the cold and wind was pretty sweet.  I hope he gets another chance down the road to be a starter.

Now we know your job - his press agent.

Thank you.  I have always liked Deion.  He talked the talk.  But backed it up on two different playing fields.  He calls himself Prime.  Have to love that.  And talks about himself in the 3rd person.  Jim Kelly used to do that if I recall.  Does anyone even do that anymore?  I think Andre "Bad Moon" Rison was on too.  He was nut back in the day.

I just watched the 30 for 30 about him a couple weeks ago.  He is sitting in an airplane hanger in a backwards chair just talking away.  It was pretty cool.  Brought back a lot of memories.

He was the first player drafted of the turnaround and a big reason for it.  It's a shame injuries ruined the last 2-1/2 seasons and I'm  sorry to see him go.

He was an excellent player for us from 2017 to the middle of 2021.  But he was far from the only reason for the turnaround of the Bills fortunes.

They had a ton of cap space, Edmunds actually played pretty well the last half of the season AND this gives the bears the opportunity to reset the quarterback position with a rookie contract for the top prospect. Only question is can they FINALLY develop a QB. Jay cutler being one of the franchises top signal callers speaks volumes

Good point about Jay Cutler.  A pretty sour fellow from what I recall.  Not exactly a team oriented kind of guy.  The only other QB's of note is Jim Miller, if you can call him that.  I believe he was good in the early 2000's for maybe half a season.  And of course Jim McMahon from way back yonder.

Interesting how some teams, especially the bad ones have so much cap space.  And we are up against it every year it seems.  What are they paying every guy under $3 mill per year?

I love your user name btw.  That cracks me the ***** up!!

Whether you like Mr. Unlimited or not, he’s proven to have some success in the league.

Pickett? They got enamored in taking a guy the fans wanted who played in their yard. Don’t think he’s awful but he certainly wasn’t what they expected and hoped for...

When you put it on paper as Wilson vs. Pickett, the Steelers are taking one step up from starting from scratch. A competent QB should have had some success with the weapons he had at his disposal. Blame Canada, blame Tomlin, blame Pickett. All 3 played their part. Best thing they did is admit it wasn’t working out the way the planned and moved on.

Do wonder though if Pickett voicing his dislike for the Wilson signing is what ultimately played the part in them moving on… He probably could have found some value sitting behind Wilson. Probably going to find more on that Eagles squad and Hurts however.

All the QB movement this offseason has definitely been interesting.  What did Pickett say after they brought in Wilson?

Interesting moving on from a 1st round pick after 2 seasons in a very run based offense.  Tomlin obviously is very comfortable in his status with the team making those kinds of moves.  The Steelers do keep their head coaches.  Three since I have been following football.  That can be both good and bad.

Agree on Murray. He got worn out quickly. I'd like to see one late round RB taken, along with a value vet FA (talking a vet min guy) that can take the pressure off Cook a bit with some experience and short yardage chops.

I can agree with bringing in those two types of guys to compete at the RB position.  A big bruiser for short yardage would be nice.  We haven't had one in a while.  Damien Harris could have been that, but for the injury to his neck.  What was the guys name we had early in the McDermott era at RB?  Older guy.  Had played for the Jets early in his career.  His name escapes me.

On pretty much anything, now that I think about it.

He is one of the greatest professional athletes of the past 100 years.  An amazing football player.  A showman who has always been entertaining.  And a D 1 football coach.  Not s bad resume.  Watch the 30 for 30 show on him playing for the Braves and the Falcons at the same time in the early 90’s.  Pretty interesting.

It just goes to show how badly he looked at the Combine that he's offering to essentially re-do it personally for us. Probably also speaks to how we view him at the moment that we're saying "yeah, gonna need you to do more than just a standard visit. We need to see the Combine was a mirage to consider you".

I would be surprised if he improves his times though, even if he was sick. He'll be in better health, but he also put on added mass. Which in and of itself is a good thing bc weighing in less than expected was one of the many disappointments from his weekend in Indy. But it could also negate the time he lost from being a little under the weather. Though if he's able to get the same 40 with added weight, that's a good thing.

More than the 40, he needs more than anything to improve his 10 yard split. Ranking dead last amongst all WR's at the Combine when his big trait is speed was staggering. Again, I worry that may just be what it is. He does hit high speeds as he gets down the field. But coming off the line, you wouldn't think he's as fast as he's supposed to be. It's strangely as if he has long speed, but not burst at the line.

He caught 81 passes for almost 1400 yards and 14 TD’s last season at Oregon.  Those are great numbers. He obviously can play WR.  The amount of overanalyzing on here is absurd pretty much about everything.

i don’t know any of you personally. But do most of you live your lives that way w everything, including your jobs over analyzing the ***** out of things ?

Watch the film of this guy.  He can play.  Enough said.

He's started 30 games over the past two seasons. You can do a lot worse at rotational 1T. Couldn't be any worse than Tim Settle. I don't know what you're expecting. If you look over the list of FA DT's left, there really isn't much.

Settle did next to nothing for us.  Amazed he got a 2 yr deal from the Texans.  Not a lot of real good D lineman in today’s NFL.  Everybody raves about a lot of these guys at the combine.  Who cares what a 300 pound man runs in the 40.  When are they ever sprinting 40 yards in a game?  And if they are, the guy they are chasing is way faster anyways.

I want guys who make plays.  Are productive.  Are mean and are tough.  Good solid football players.  Football used to be a gladiator sport.  Where did that go?  Has McDermott ever said?  We are going to kick the crap out of the Chiefs for 60 minutes.  I am glad we resigned Taylor Rapp if for no other reason that he liked trying to hurt players on the other team.  So did Dodson.  And Milano plays like that.  My son played college football like that.  Anytime he could get an extra shot on someone he took it.  Played the game like a street brawl.  He took it and he gave it.  Toughness should still matter.  Football should not be track or baseball.  I so wish that someone would just light Mahomes up when he saunters out of bounds.  It’s a joke. The boy needs his clock cleaned.  It’s worth a 15 yard flag and maybe a $20k fine.  Where is Kiko Alonso when you need him?!  Probably passed out on some person’s house he doesn’t know.  The same thing happened to my son when he played college ball at Syracuse.  At least he didn’t get arrested.  I swear to god.

Have a good night everyone.  Shout out to Fire Chan.  I love the way he posts. 🏈🏈🤘🤘

I think you sell him short. I bet he returns to a roster and returns to play at a really high level. This is an injury he can fully

    recover from.

A really high level is probably a stretch.  But if so, more power to him.  Don’t really get all the sadness about him being cut.  He hasn’t done much since being injured Thanksgiving 2021.  I was sadder that Mitch Morse got cut.  He was a leader of the O line and was still playing well.  And I liked his stoic toughness.  Tre had a real good run.  But injuries are a big part of the NFL.  I love the Bills.  But it’s more the team than the individuals except for Josh.  He is special.  I miss Kyle Williams more then I will miss Tre.  He was the heart and soul of the team for 10-12 years.

Guys let's not over think this.

Beane is going receiver Round 1 unless he gets a haul of picks that allows him to trade back and take a top ranked receiver early in round 2.

Hollins replaces Sherfield and Samuel replaces Hardy. Still no Gabe replacement on the roster.

Beane isn't dumb. Bills accumulated multiple injuries last year and I believe a big part of it was because the Bills were scratching and clawing all season in every game due to the offense inability to put teams away early. The Bills lack of offensive talent was glaring and it became obvious when Gabe went down and we had to start Sherfield.

The defense is what it is. They haven't been able to stop a nose bleed regardless of who the Bills have put out there. Beane has spent all this money on the dline and secondary and all its amounted to is Mahomes and Burrow marching up and down the field on the Bills in the playoffs.

Well if the Bills are going to be marched on regardless why not try out young talent who typically stay healthier over the stretch of a long season and see if they can band together and play better come playoff time?

Meanwhile on offense why not actually load it up and put pressure on other teams forcing their offenses to be one dimensional giving our defense easier looks?

It is time we became a five threat offense. Good at running the ball. Good tight ends. Drafting one of these deep threat studs in Round 1 putting pressure on teams with the deep ball. Having Diggs, Samuel, Kincaid and Shakir for intermediate, short, and bubble routes. Then of course still have Josh Allen scrambling ability.

Oline is finally not a bag of trash with the emergence of Torrence, Brown, and McGovern to go with Dawkins.

Good things are coming. Bills offense is going  to go to another level. Just need that deep threat round 1 receiver and another big body rb who doesn't fade down the stretch.

I like your analysis.  How many dominant pass rushers are there even. We have been marginal drafting D linemen at best.  Rousseau and Epenesa are decent to above average.  But neither will ever be Bruce or Demarcus Ware.  Maybe Jerry Hughes if we are lucky.  But that’s how most pass rushers end up. We can find that later on.  Pass rush can be manufactured.  Get a top WR in the 1st round and let’s dominate w Josh.  We have an excellent LB group and can add some help to the secondary. Because Poyer and Hyde were too slow last year.   Get some D lineman who can really stop the run.  And the rest will fall into place.  No one plays defense like the 85 Bears anymore.  Suffocate the run and the deep pass, and teams are not scoring a lot of points on you.  And dominate on offense w high powered weapons.

Not for nothing did the Steelers get more for Pickett than they had sent to the bears for fields?

Fields is better and has more potential than pickett

No he isn’t.  He looks lost and confused every series he is on the field.  He so is not a Pittsburgh guy.  If he was good the Bears would not have traded him for a 6th round pick.  Not that the Bears have a clue.  They signed Tremaine Edmonds for $72 mill. 😂😂

Pickett hasn’t been great.  But the offense the Steelers were running w him was god awful.  Tomlin is overrated.  Maybe it’s the big silver cross he wears.

Normally I am not an advocate of drafting "BPA".  I think most GMs that say they do lie anyways. At best it is usually BPA at a position of need.

However this year may be the year to just sit back and let the draft come to you.

As of today, the only starting spot open is Safety.  That may yet be addressed in FA but even if not they can take one on day 2 with a little maneuvering.  They can justify drafting backups and future replacements at most levels.

I'd be perfectly happy if Beane traded around to get the deep speed WR with size this team lacks. Then just take BPA the rest of the way. You could make an argument for just about every position even taking a backup QB that might have trade value in a year or two. OL, DL, RB, DB, and you can always use a backup LB for teams. Pick up a punter on day 3.

We need better D lineman who aren’t in their 30’s.

Let’s get the best WR available in the 1st round and then a variety of S DT and DE’s.

Late round O lineman are an absolute waste.   Better signing free agents like Ryan Bates for O line depth after they are seasoned to the NFL.

I mean, I like Johnson enough as a RB3/ST type. He's shown ability to handle that role. I have zero problem with him in that role again this year. But a RB2? Sorry, just don't see it. Yup, he runs hard. Yup he has some burst. But he had a whopping 30 carries last year. He is the definition of a JAG.

Let me present this a different way. Say, we didn't re-sign him and he went to another team. Their lead back is down the week we play them and we are up against Johnson. You scared? Like at all? Of course not. He's really a non factor.

Cook really played well last year. Showed a lot of talent. That will keep getting him opportunity. However, what if his fumbles and drops continue? Sorry, but we need a RB2 that can step in there if Cook falters or gets hurt. But like I said, Johnson is an almost ideal RB3 guy. Has some pop. Can play ST. Perfect for that role.

I like your Avatar.  He would have been our lead back under Dickie J.  There are a lot of JAG's who when given more opportunities, step up and play like big timers.

I could see that with TJ.  Now I don't have a problem with bringing in another guy or two (late round draft pick, UDFA) to compete for reps with Johnson.  I just like how he ran the ball when given the opportunity.  I did not like Latavious Murray on the field in the second half of the season.  He looked like he was in his 50's pulling bags of concrete tied to his waste.

Cool. We still need a RB2.

I like Johnson and like the versatility he brings on ST. That said there is nothing remotely about him that is a RB2 in this league IMO.

And 54 of those yards alone came from the Dallas game, where the Cowboys absolutely REFUSED to tackle any RBs.

Good depth player. Wouldn't want him as "next man up" if Cook misses time.

And why are you so meh on Ty Johnson?  He ran hard, and showed a good burst and vision whenever he was on the field and his number was called.  I think he is fine as a # 2 RB for the time being.  We can draft a guy in the later rounds, or bring in another low cost free agent.  But our offense is predicated on Josh Allen making plays chucking the ball around the field, and running when he sees an opportunity.  Cook and Johnson are a very solid one two punch.

The guy is not a scrub.  So what makes you think he is taking a cheap deal?  There are 31 other NFL teams besides the Chargers.  One or two will likely offer some good money.  Some teams like the Commanders have a lot of money to burn if they so choose.

We on the other hand do not.

It's the Jake Kumerow role guys. Calm down.

He's a great blocker at the X position and can catch a ball or two.

He had significantly better production than both Sherfield and Kumerow the last several years with a worse QB.

Cry about it all you want, it's a good signing.

I like your positivity Rigotz.  Hollins is an NFL player.  He can run but is not overly twitchy.  Kumerow caught one pass of note while on the Bills.  The TD at Denver when we were already winning by 35 points.  Sherfield was garbage.  Looked like he had no idea what an NFL WR does.  He had one reception of note all season too.  If I practiced law like Sherfield played WR, I would have been living under a bridge for the past 25 years.  Hollins is a faster Gabe Davis type at a much cheaper price.  The Bills are in the top 6-8 organizations in the NFL.  Beane always has a plan.  Lets hope we get the best version of Mack Hollins.  And playing with Josh Allen should give him some more juice then playing with Desmond Ritter or Derrick Carr.

Man, $19M seems steep for what we’re getting from Rousseau.  I know we have a bunch of needs entering the draft, seems like EDGE is right up there with WR and DT.  More reason to land a stopgap FS in FA, so we can focus on these positions in the first 4 rounds of the draft.

The Bills rotate their DE’s a lot.  Rousseau has been a good but far from consistently dominant player.  The Bills defense (especially the front 7) is not predicated on star players.  Other than Milano.  (And they were still good when he went down last year) It is the collective talent of the group as a whole versus individual players that has made them a very good if not great defense under McDermott IMO.  And the secondary has always lead the defense.

Rousseau has not earned a $19-$20 mill per year contract at this point.  I would not give him the 5th year option.  Let him earn that extension on the field through at least the first half of next season.  And if his game has gone to the next level, then give him the big money.
