More like this year's Brandon Shell/ Ifedi... A vet RT that hopefully never has to see the field.

Do you think they told him when he signed, " We like you.  But we don't want to have to play you?"

Alot of players and fans didn't even know what was going on behind the scenes with his wife either, until they publicly came out and told everyone about her breast cancer and starting up the Chris Spielman Fund.

Yup that was sad.  But he was a stand up guy and really tried to help his wife in every way he could.  He is one of my all time favorite football players.  And seemed to be a really good person too.

He was awesome both in college at Ohio State (had 26 tackles in the 1986 Michigan-Ohio State game) and for us.  Too bad about his neck injury.  And as a TV football analyst he was a riot both college and pro.  That was one tough football player.  They just don't play like that anymore.  And my namesake Bryce Paup had a dam good run w us too until he tore up his groin.

65 mil when Tre White hits the books after June 1st.

A catastrophic amount of dead cap largely from the decision to give Diggs a monster extension and then trade him.

Tre Whites $10 mill comes off the books on June 1st.

    I'm pretty happy with a 2nd tbh

I think we fleeced Houston for a second.  Diggs was terrible at the end of last season.  Has no juice left.  Couple that w his persona and we came out real nice.

His comments are likely political in nature. There's a lot of naive comments in this thread. If Florida is so bad then why is everyone moving there and real estate is through the roof?

Exactly.  South Florida is packed.  I wish it was not so crowded in Fort Lauderdale.  You have to know where and when to drive to keep your sanity.  But other then that, I love it down there.

I have my political views.  But try to avoid going there on a football site.

Ironic considering Florida is much worse. In Panama and Costa Rica you get the beautiful locale and low cost of living without the oppression and nonsense in Florida.

What are you talking about?  South Florida is beautiful.  Come down to Fort Lauderdale and check out the beaches and the weather bro.  You sound like a moron.  What oppression and nonsense do you speak of?  I guess Eastern Ohio is something special?

Wow. Good player. I wanted the Bills to consider him a couple of years ago. I am actually getting a little concerned about the Jets. Yeah, I know, they're the Jets, but they are undoubtedly amassing talent and if Rogers is healthy, he'll likely be an upper echelon QB still because of his incredible arm and on-field intelligence.

Rodgers can't move anymore.  And why would Philly get rid of Reddick if they thought he had much left in the tank?

I am not concerned about anyone.  Like I have been saying since the season ended.  If we had been healthy on defense, we were going to the Super Bowl.

And I expect to be better overall  next season.

I always loved this guy in San Fran. But he was always so injury prone. Finally staying healthy. Glad he is getting paid a bit.

Compared to what WR's are getting.  That's not a big contract.  Funny when you see what a guy like Mostert is getting (who has had a solid career).  And then you see what Tremaine Edmonds and Gabe Davis are getting paid.  All I can say to that is WOW!!  Glad we aren't paying either of them.

Asking that question means that you are just another one of the lemmings who think that maybe, just maybe, Beane and McDermott actually might know what they're doing.

Watching Russ Brandon trade away All Pro LT Jason Peters and replacing him with waiver-wire refugees in 2009 convinced me of the importance of having a solid OL.  I think it was 2 or 3 years before the Bills got around to even drafting an actual LT.

Prioritizing need over talent sets up a team for failure.  A team like the Bills has to make its high draft picks count because the draft is the best place to find the difference makers they need.   If there's a WR and/or DE as well as a C on the board that the Bills have graded as first round talents, they should take the one they think is likely to become a stud.    If there's a first round C on the board but none of the WRs or DEs left are close to his quality, it's a no-brainer to take the C.

Maurkise Pouncey went to the Stillers at #18 in 2010.   Nine times Pro Bowler, 2 time All Pro.   He retired after the 2020 season.   The only season he failed to make the Pro Bowl was the season he suffered a season-ending injury in the opening game of the season.   He came back the next season to be selected All Pro a second time.

Good answer.  Would not put him up there with the all time greats.  But had a real good career.

I'm in!     I've already advocated drafting a center at #28 in a couple of other threads.  Even if there's not a run on WRs, the fact is a great center will help Allen more than a good WR, and you're more likely to get a great IOLer than a great WR at #28

Who was the last great center drafted in the NFL?  Not good.  But great.  Dermonti Dawson or Dwight Stephenson back in the 90's?  There have been some good ones.  Humphrey for KC is good.  But he is not overly dominant.  Mitch Morse is pretty good.

We need some very good to great WR's.  Josh Allen can escape most pressure, but he can't escape not having elite WR talent.  And for those who were really not paying attention during the second half of last season, Stefan Diggs was not playing pro football at anywhere near an elite level.

Might have worded that poorly lol but I'm just saying for a team that basically just drafted a 1st rd QB , they got some potential to work with. Especially Fields, another 1st rder cause he's younger. He could def have some untapped potential

I will give you that on Fields.  There is potential.  This will be year 4 for him I believe.  Maybe it will come together.  If nothing else he has good wheels.

  13. 16 hours ago, JerseyBills said:

Ya agreed. They definitely upgraded after realizing their 1st rder isn't the one

Come on Jersey.  Have you watched either guy play the past couple seasons?   Fields will get swallowed up by the AFC North.  And Wilson has fallen off a cliff the past few years.  If say Washington or the Giants had made these moves everyone would be saying they are a 5 win team at best.  Because it’s Pittsburgh, and King Tomlin it has to be the bomb.  Everyone seems to revere Tomlin.  But McDermott gets all sorts of flack on here, when he has been a much better coach of a much better team over the past 7 years.

Like two of them will have NFL careers. McCarthy ain't gonna be one of them.

You must be in the dark depths of Ohio Boyst.  Huge Michigan fan and alumnus.  We had an excellent team across the board last year.  We aren’t flashy.  But guys who play at Michigan are old school tough solid smart football players.  And are also leaders.  They usually are not athletic freaks.  But that’s not our program.  But you want guys who understand the game.  Always play fast and hard, and are coachable, you pick Michigan men.  Think Lamar Woodley, Brandon Graham, Charles Woodson, Jim Harbaugh.  Aiden Hutchinson-he is a freaky athlete.

In this class Sainerstill will be real good in the pros as will Wilson at WR.  Zinter will be a beast once his leg has healed.  And McCarthy will be excellent once he gets acclimated to the pro game.  Guy is a winner and a leader.  A dark horse is Braden McGregor.  Bills should take him in the later rounds.  He is long and plays hard w a lot of attitude.  Can be a consistent 6-8 sack player.  Had a real big game against Alabama in the Nat Championship semi final.  Go Blue !!

I spoke directly with Steve Tasker at a social gathering during the season.  I asked his opinion of McDermott.

Steve said we are lucky to have him, and that he's a fantastic coach.  He was fairly emphatic that the fans have ZERO clue about coaching or what makes a "bad coach".   I agree.

He's defensive because of the criticism, mostly unwarranted, by the fans.  There are things other than coaching going on which dictate winning.  Personnel, injuries, drafting, etc.

In my opinion, the criticism is unwarranted.  There is a TON of hindsight/monday morning QB'ing going on.

Maybe we should go after Ron Rivera?

I agree.  I am glad McDermott is getting a little more assertive w his detractors.  It’s his team.  And he should become a little more vocal as a big time coach in rhe NFL.

I was down on him after we fell to 6-6 w the loss to the Eagles.  But he did one hell of a job not losing the team, keeping them focused and winning 6 straight games w a ton of injuries. Especially on defense. If we were healthy we would have likely gone to the Super Bowl.  Mike Tomlin has won one SB. As has John Harbaugh.  I put McDermott right there w them, if not better.

    Ron Rivera😂😂

At least they didn't get another first or something crazy like that......

But, they got something for an asset and while I am glad he's off their team, it stinks that they are probably going to be able to add a good, young, cheap piece in the draft.

It’s next year 2025.  They just traded their best DB and you are thinking negative.  If the Bills traded Douglas for a 3rd next year, you would be apoplectic.  That’s a loss for the Chiefs.

it’s interesting how little good players are traded for in the modern NFL.  I guess he was going to be difficult w signing a long term deal and he got shipped out.  The Jamie Collins syndrome.  Lol

The only teams that didn’t get the memo are the Broncos and Browns given how much they gave up for Russell Wilson and Desean Watson.

I hope this is more of a camp body pickup. He's not highly regarded by any fans of the teams he played on even as a backup they say he was pretty bad. While he is coming off of a injury Chargers fans did say he played decently for the most part last season so that's a positive. I really hope the Bills invest at least two draft picks into the offensive line. I don't like the depth and Edwards while not a bad starter is not someone I am confident in. Outside of Van Denmark as a capable swing tackle I don't really like what the team has depth wise along the offensive line.

Sorry you a so picky.  What NFL team has good depth on their O line?   Seriously, most NFL teams don't even have good starting O linemen.

Why didn't people like Clapp?  He looks like a pretty big dude.

I don’t know if I agree 100% with my take either🤣….I mean, MHJ might turn out to be a great pro.  I just hate the entitled attitude, which IMO is based largely on his name.  Go watch the combine interview of Rome Odunze, who had every bit as good a college career as Harrison.  They asked why he was there when other top receivers were taking a powder, and he talked about how much he loves to compete and how a guy’s combine performance is something for posterity and how he’s even competing against guys from years past.  Give me a guy like Odunze or Josh Allen over the MHJs and Caleb Williamses of the world…

That is interesting about Odunze.  I like that attitude.  Its interesting the hype that is given in today's world to all these players when they haven't even played one down of pro football.  Like the game is going to change because Marvin Harrison Jr is coming to the NFL.  One thing I remember about his father was how soft spoken he was.  He was an excellent player.  But just played football.  And caught lots of passes from Peyton Manning.  The celebrating stuff in today's NFL is absurd.  A guy makes an interception.  And the entire team has to celebrate in the end zone like a bunch of seals at Sea World.  Why?  The game was just as fun 40 years ago, when someone scored and they just either spiked the ball or handed it to the ref.

  20. 13 hours ago, mannc said:

Folks, MHJ is one of the most overrated NFL prospects since Sam Darnold.  If it wasn’t for his name, he’d be considered a borderline first rounder.  Good hands and good size, but no explosiveness, no YAC ability and obviously an entitled attitude.  Wouldn’t surprise me if he runs a 4.6.  Anyone who takes him over Nabers or Odunze is making a huge mistake.

    Please stop with this nonsense.

I like your take on MHJr.  I don’t know if i exactly agree 100.  But I like someone who has a different opinion.  And I hate how much hype some of these guys get before even getting drafted.  We smoked him and his overrated Buckeyes the past 3 years.  He certainly did not dominate us.  And who really knows how great he will be in the pros.  Act like you care.  Play in your teams bowl games and work out for the scouts.  Act like you are a team guy who respects the process and the game.

Well if you think I’m giving “too much credit” to the Steelers, you’re certainly giving too much credit to Kenny Pickett.

We didn’t in any way come close to “beating them badly” in the playoffs. Turnovers were the only reason we won. Defense was sieve-like at times. Maybe you watched another game. We still win even if Pickett was in and “showed up” instead of Rudolph but it wasn’t the brake beater you’re making it out to be…

Maybe down the road he’ll have some success like Baker has done; multiple changes of scenery to final land another starting job and it clicks. Don’t see it personally. Neither did the Steelers. Neither did their fans. Neither did a lot of the pre-draft pundits.

To each their own I guess.

We all have our guys.  I think Pickett has moxie and was a baller his last season at Pitt.  I don't think you just lose that ability.  But his story has not been finalized yet.

I thought we pretty much kicked their collective asses.  And if not for the high snap botched FG, the game would have been over right then and there.
