  1. If Maybin was a third-round pick from this year, everybody would be excited about him. He may never become Lawrance Taylor, which is a good thing for all under-age girls; however, I think he will do just fine as a situational pass rusher. Hopefully, he will improve to become an every down linebacker. I definitely think he is better at OLB than DE, and he is very green. He's definitely bigger than Kieth Ellison, and I like his attitude. I remember the post where the players were clearing out their lockers and everybody was commenting on how small he looked. What I noticed, was that he was one of the last players to clear out after the season was over. I really think he loves the game.

As far as Okorpo, I was really disappointed that the Bills didn't draft Brady. They had multiple chances, and they didn't get him. Heck, what about Revis? We picked a CB earlier in the first round in that draft? I'm still miffed the Bills selected Byrd because we all know what an exact science the draft is.

  2. yeah im not buying that at all

where is the pass rush gonna come from? where is the run d gonna come from? the only potential difference maker who isnt a db is stroud and hes playing a brand new position. everywhere else in the front seven is pedestrian role players and/or rookies. and the dbs overall are strong but they dont have any game changers either and a good secondary wont even matter much when backs are ripping of five/six yards most runs

COULD a bunch of bills defenders elevate their game to make the defense good? well yeah but there would have to be so many that it has to be considered a longshot. i see nothing to be confident about this bunch doing that this season. but i do see lots of reasons why this most likely will be a defense hemorrhaging rushing yards most weeks

i sure as hell hope im wrong but its gonna take a miracle for this defense to be average this season

I think the pass rush is going to come from Blitzes, and I think the run defense is going to improve because they are going to have a formation of 2 DEs, 3 DTs, & 2 LBs.

  3. Anyone who thinks this year's team is better than last years ( before all the injuries ) is absolutely dreaming .. the O Line is the same, best case, QB same, RB a bit better, WRs/TEs definately worse. Defense just as weak.

Gonna be a long season folks. There's that word again.. Hope. Hoping is a waste of time in the NFL. Either you have the goods or you do not. the Bills do not.

It will definitely be interesting to see how much of last year's performance was due to lack of talent, and how much was due to poor coaching. I'm looking forward to the season because I think the coaching is going to be that much better.

  4. I have a hard time believing that the Bills are going to be as bad as they were right before drafting Mike Williams. Tom Donahue gutted that team when transitioning to a 4-3. I know that there are a lot of new players on this team; however, most of them are backups or veteran free-agent signing.

Outside of T.O., I just don't see the salary dumps or the releasing old veteran players like the Bills did at that time.

Also, compared to the pre-season last year, Chan Gailey is a much better offensive coach than Dick Juron. The defense has looked o.k.

The defensive line and secondary are talented. Running back is going to be a strength. The run defense has got to be better. They are planning on having two defensive ends, and three defensive tackles. Plus, the Jets aren't that great, sure they have spent hand over fist in free agency for big name players. I was a little surprised they didn't sign T.O. Once teams figured out the wild-cat, the Dolphins have proven to be an average team. The Patriots aren't what they used to be.

  5. One preseason game is not enough. He has to show more throughout the entire season. He shows flashes, then he falls apart. He has to become more consistent. It was a nice throw.

I liked the three running back set to setup up a bomb. I hope we will continue to see more creativity from Gailey & Co. It is refreshing compared the DJ.

  6. Leonidas is seriously considering banning someone? Seriously? After driving Tim Graham away, seriously?

On topic, I hope Trent is able to turn it around since it will make the team better. He has some skill, but I think all the problems with offensive coordinators and offensive lines has been a problem.

I'm an optimist, mostly, because I have been waiting for a quarterback since the second half of Drew Bledso's first season.

I don't think we really know for sure at this point. Personally, I have not had that JP New York Jets moment where I just knew he had to go. That fumble returned for a touchdown was the last straw.

  7. Troupe, Carrington and Easley were reaches.

Not one one these players played against major division one competition consistently. I am not saying they are going to play poorly because I don't think that will be the case, but from a lay persons perspective, Troupe was second team conference in a poor conference, Carrington was solid in a very poor conference, and Easley did not start fully during his senior season.

They may turn out fine, but there are question marks where there were other players at posiions they played that were taken behind them with less questions.

I completely agree that these three were reaches; however, I have been doing some analysis of the player drafted by other team compared to who the Bills drafted, and I found that the Bills, by far, drafted the most small school prospects.

I am convinced that this OBD strategy, for two reasons. One, the players will be more motivated to play for a small market team compared to players from USC, Miami or Texas, since the Bills are now the big time. Think the anti-Mike Williams. I truly believe this is why the Bills selected Troupe over Mount Cody or Cam Thomas. Two, the Bills believe that they can find gems in the smaller schools because they aren't as well know. For the second point, I think that Nix having been the head of scouting has a belief that the scouting department can find these players.

The national press will always give lower grades to the Bills for selecting players who are from small schools because the players aren't as well known as the one's who play in nationally televised games.

As far as Spiller, I'm not sure how important a left tackle is since Arizona got to the Super Bowl with Mike Gandy. How many people here would like to have him back? He's available.

  8. Whitner is a good player. Buffalo fans want to get rid of their better players, really?

I mean seriously, what a bunch of j@ck@sses. First, Tim Graham was driven off this board. I would rather hear from him that the bunch of idiots that just like to complain. I would bet any amount of money that if the Bills ever get back to the Superbowl there will be a bunch of people here who will be complaining about how they should cut half the team while someone else will say it should be the other half.

Whitner is a good player. Frankly, compared to some of the first round draft picks the Bills have selected, he is really good. I like him. He doesn't get in trouble. He does whatever the coaches ask. He shows up and works hard. Isn't the blue collar players that Buffalo is supposed to like?

  9. Uhh, sorry to burst your bubble, but he's running in WNY against Louise Slaughter as per the article--carpetbagger anyone?

Have you listened to Louise's accent? And you are calling Smerlas a carpetbagger?

My sister worked one year for Louise. When her friend had worked for her long enough to require more than the minimum wage, she was laid-off. Anybody else would be change I can believe in.

  10. They were definitely trying to draft small-school players with character. I think that is why they selected Troup so high. I think there are cases where a team can select a player too high. The player takes the money and feels he should be treated special, i.e. Mike Williams. I think Troup is the opposite. I think he is the kind of guy who appreciates being selected and wants to prove the coaches right. I think this is a big reason that the Bills went with small school players. The Bills are in better shape than last year; however, they still need help at offensive tackle.

  11. They should sign him for two years. Adams is an upgrade over anyone the Bills have. It will the give the younger players time to develop, and it allows the Bills to kick the can down the road until next year's draft. It will be a huge improvement over last year, and it will help with the development of the quarterback who wins the competition this summer.

  12. Dan Williams would be an excellent pick if Clausen and the top tackles are not available. I hope the Bills trade down because they have so many holes to fill, and I think there is a lot of value later in the first round. Plus, the Bills have a lot holes to fill. If Clausen is available, they are foolish not to draft him. They need a franchise quarterback. The other positions are a lot easier to fill.

  13. There is a huge need for another wide receiver on this team; however, I think it depends on where he is drafted. If the Bills can fill their needs along the lines, then he would be a good addition. We know Gailey knows what kind of player he can be. Hopefully, he will fall to us. There are a lot of players I would like the Bills to draft. It's just that the Bills do not have that many high draft picks.

  14. I think the biggest issue with draft value is that teams will try to outsmart the other teams. There is a lot of uncertainty with any player drafted because no-one including the player will know how they will respond to playing in the NFL. There will not be any individual consensus for a given player; however, there probably will be a group consensus. When a team selects a player higher, or significantly higher than that group consensus than the team reached. A team can reach for a player because of combine, an area of need, hype, etc.

Since the end result is relatively random, it might seem that draft value does not mean much. However, since it is more likely a player in the first round will be a pro-bowl, hall of fame player, etc., and the more draft picks a team has, the more likely they will pick up quality players later in the draft. It resembles blackjack since the team is playing the statistic percentages. Sometimes reaching works, like Elderin James, sometimes it doesn't like Whitner. Frankly, Whitner is not a bust. He is a good safety, just there were better options.

What is frustrating about the Bills is that they give up value for positions of need when the player may not actually resolve the problem, McCargo. Also, it seemed that they were trying to outsmart people, but stupid teams do stupid things, like the Lions and the like Levy saying they were going to emphasize character then draft Marshawn Lynch.
