  1. I think you have to take it from two perspectives. I think the Bills have more talent that the media types give them credit for since the Bills are a small market team. For example, how many times have we heard about left tackle and quarterback being the Bills biggest needs.

On the other hand, I think the fans on this board can be overly critical of the team. For example, how many Bills fans do not believe Whitner even deserves a spot of the team?

  2. Personally, I am very unhappy about this ruling. I do not know why, but I trust the owners more than the players to make decisions about what will be best for the game for all of the fans. I think it was a ruling by a pro-union judge, who is short-sighted. From what I understand she was concerned about other stakeholders besides the owners and the players, but I really think she was only concerned about the players union. The poor players being exploited by the horrible owners. My wife's cousin played for the Washington Wizards, and after his rookie contract was over, he had more money than my Dad has over his whole life.

Sure, I'm a little upset because my Dad's factory went bankrupt, and he did not have any real saving outside of factor because he put everything into it to keep it going. His troubles were in no small part to Carrier leaving Syracuse for China, and I can tell you one thing it is not easy to run manufacturing in New York in no small part to the politians and the judges, who supposedly support the little guy, even though the fifty people who worked there no longer have jobs.

The number one pick in the draft is doing better than Wall Street CEOs. It's insane.

I am very worried it will hurt the Bills, and I do not know what I will do because I do not really care about any of the other teams. I will be sick to my stomach if the Jets become the Yankees of football because some judge felt it was fine for the players to collude but not the owners.

  3. I agree with Buddy Nix that if the Bills select based solely on need then they will have two holes to fill. My major concern is that there is a lot of hype about quarterbacks in this draft, not because there are a lot of quarterbacks available, but because so many teams seem to need quarterbacks.

I really hope the Bills stop giving up so much to get marginal quarterback talent. I was happier with how the team dealt with Trent than J.P. in that they did not reach for him nor did they give up a lot to get him. He looked good there for a little while, but they had to move on.

I think that Pittsburg and the Jets handled the quarterback position the best, which is why I hope the Bills pass on a quarterback this year. Both teams made sure to have quality players around them before drafting a quarterback, which increases the odds the quarterback will be successful. Even Indi did that with Payton Manning. They drafted offensive tackles in the first two rounds the year before they drafted a quarterback. Sure, they were bad for an additional year, but they have been good for a lot longer than the Bills.

  4. I would have a major problem with the Bills selecting AJ Green. I think a receiver this high is a luxury pick. That receiver better make it to the Hall of Fame. I would rather they selected Fairly; however, if they feel Cam Newton is someone they can coach, it would be all right. I would rather they select Cam Newton then trading back into the first round to select Ponder or one of the also rans. Too many memories of J.P. Losman.

If they really wanted to fix their run defense, they would trade down to get more picks. All of the run stuffers are mid to late first round draft picks, and the Bills do not need another Donte Whitner like pick, i.e. good player but selected to high in the draft.

  5. I was checking out Don Banks' "Wes Welker Watch List", and the Bills selected 3 players off of last year's list: David Nelson, WR, Danny Batten, OLB, Levi Brown, QB.

It seems that the Bills are trying to get back to selecting small school players like they did in the late '80s. In your opinion, which of the players from this year's list might the Bills select in the later part of the draft?

    Darrin Walls, CB, Notre Dame

    Schuylar Oordt, TE, Northern Iowa

    Mike Smith, OT, Nebraska

    Matthias Berning, OLB, Central Michigan

    Brandyn Thompson, CB, Boise State

    Byron Stingily, OT, Louisville

    David Carter, DT, UCLA

    Ryan Hill, CB, Miami

Marc Schiechl, DE, Colorado School of Mines

    Kris Durham, WR, Georgia

  6. I do not like either of the quarterbacks because I'm a Bills fan. I may be completely wrong, but Galbert reminds me of Eric Flowers, a guy who jumped up draft boards late in the process. I really hate when the Bills draft these types of players.

Cam Newton has serious character issues. He has worse character issues than Vince Young. I just think that he won't be happy, and even if he become great he is going to Lebron James the Bills.

I would like the Bills to draft defense, not because defense is more important than offense, but because the draft is packed with excellent defensive players. I would like them to get Fairly or Darius because I know how much of impact all those first round defensive linemen have made to the Patriots.

I know the Bills need a franchise quarterback, but I really don't want it to be either of these guys. I would be happy with Luck. I would have been happy with Colt McCoy last year. I think they could gamble on a lower round guy, but not these guys.

  7. I believe that the Bills need to get better as a team. Before Indi selected Payton, they selected offensive tackles in the first and second round. The Bills need to build up their trenches. The Jets have shown that it is possible to move up a lot to get a quarterback if they need to.

I worry about Newton not wanting to be in Buffalo. I think he is going to have an attitude like McGahee. I believe that the players the Bills get should have good character. Probably more than Marv, i.e. Marshawn Lynch. I think it will end badly for the Bills, even if he is good. He's just not Kelly.

The Bills are going to struggle again this year no matter who they select so they will have another opportunity next year. I like the Whitner pick a lot better than the Mike Williams or Maybin picks, because at the very least he is a quality player. He may not be Polamalu, but he wants to play in Buffalo and he contributes.

I would like the Bills to select Fairley since he and Kyle Williams would create havoc in the backfield of the Patriots.

  8. Because we are the Bills, and if we are there at 3, we will either pick a CB (not named Peterson) or a RB :)

You are wrong, the Bills will select someone who is rising fast on the draft charts due to buzz who could be available in the late first round or early second round then the Bills will trade back into the first round to select a position of need for a player that is not likely to pan out instead of the hall of famer they could have selected in the first round.

On a more serious note, I really believe at this point that Buddy Nix is a real general manager, which the Bills have not had since Butler. I think we will learn a lot about Buddy with this draft. I am just praying that there aren't any surprises like Maybin or Eric Flowers, you know those what the heck were they thinking.

  9. I think Dareus will definitely be more versitile than Fairley, and he is more likely to hold up blockers; however, Fairley would be more of a penetrating DE. I think Fairley also slipped because he is smaller than the teams expected. I do not think this will be too much of issue for the Bills since he would be expected to play DE. I also think that he would pair nicely with Kyle Williams who also more a penetrator.

I absolutely do not like Quinn. I think he was a one year wonder, and I think picking this high could cause problems, i.e. Mike Williams. I think Newton would be a giant risk because the Bills are small market team, and I could definitely see a similiar attitude as Willis McGahee. If he becomes good, he will want to leave so he can become an entertainer and icon.

The Bills need to build up the team, and especially the offensive line before they select their quarterback of the future.

  10. One thing that annoys me about Kiper's comments is that he states that the Bills need players to step in right away and contribute. It seems that a lot of people on this board believe the same thing; however, this is no way accurate.

The Bills are in the process of rebuilding. They have a new management team in place, i.e. a new general manager. The team has not had a real general manager since Donahue.

The Bills predominately drafted small school, development projects, but Kiper is expecting them to make an immediate impact.

As far as Spiller, people forget that he could have much better numbers if he took more snaps and was named the starter from the beginning. I know rookies are going to make mistakes, but isn't it also possible that they are gradually easing him into the position. First, it will reduce the wear and tear and the chance of injury, which is one of the biggest reason high draft pick running backs go bust. Second, it creates discipline on the team.

I really think Chan was not trying to win this year. It's not that he was intentionally tanking the season, but that he was trying to build for the future.

Last year was a good draft. Granted Maybin is a bust, but the next three picks were solid. Oh, as far as they needed to fill other holes, well they had so many holes they couldn't have filled them all even if the player they got was the best player ever drafted in that round. As far as New England, they had veterans around the rookies, and they stockpilled a ton of picks, which definitely help the teams odds.

  11. Here are a couple of my thoughts on the Patriot's rebuilding strategies:

    1) They make their high draft picks count.

    2) Their high 1st round draft picks are used for the front seven. Their defensive line was all 1st round draft picks.

    3) They go for quantity of draft picks in the low first round and second rounds, more chances to get a starter.

    4) They do not pay for over-priced free agents. Outside of Brady there aren't too many star players.

    5) They let people go relentlessly.

    6) They watch the money, more evenly spread across the team.

What this means for the Bills:

    1) The Bills should probably be trading down and acquiring draft picks.

    2) More analytical and less emotion based drafting. Maybin was not an analytical decision, and I doubt Spiller was either.

(I am of the opinion that Spiller will be good, and the Bills are not worried about winning this year as much as building a team, determining what they have, etc.)

    3) They should continue their strategy with free agency. Keep getting players from the Ravens.

    4) This off season should focus on the offensive line and linebackers.

    5) Let's see if Fitz is the guy next year. If not, then trade up to get a quarterback, ala the Giants and Jets.

  12. I think it comes with Belichick more than Kraft. I was watching the Parcels biography and some of his comments about Kraft. I think the one thing anybody can say about Kraft is that he wants to win, and he is willing to hire people to do it.

The way to beat the Patriots is to build a team like San Diego. The Patriots are good because they have a good team. It is not all about Brady. They have done it by bringing in quantity. They need a tight end so they sign one and draft two.

The Bills could trade down if they wanted to. They just haven't wanted to. The Bills have a lot of needs, but they need more bodies. The Patriots like to get players in the second round. A loser would try to get one player star player to turn around a team. Unfortunately, the rest of the team stinks. The Patriots try to find as many quality players as posible.

  13. OMG!!! I am so glad that the simulation is not doing our draft!

This would be a Donahue draft. I hope that the Bills do not reach on an OLB who isn't currently playing. Who had one good year. Seriously!!

Plus, how is Dont'a Hightower going in the fifth round?

  14. I am really torn on this issue.

I don't think any Bills fan wants the team to lose, but I can definitely understand the frustration since the team has been stuck in mediocrity. How many times have Bills fans watch the team seem to improve at the end of the year to see two things happen:

    1) The Bills revert back to form the next year, ala JP Losman & Trent Edwards.

    2) Just miss on drafting someone like Patrick Willis

After years of experience, I will take any Bills win they get. The one year I was really happy they let were rebuilding and they had a chance to draft a player who would solidify the left tackle position for years to come. They had a chance to draft a left tackle who played on the best offensive line in college football, who hadn't given up a sack in college or high school. And the Bills selected Mike Williams instead. On another occasion, the Bills were struggling because they had released two stud defensive linemen, and OK, it's alright that they lost some games because they now have a chance to draft a real stud, who will make everyone forget about Pat Williams & Sam Adams. And the Bills selected Donte Whitner.

I'll take what I can get because if the Bills had the worst record Luck wouldn't be avaible. Anybody that I would like them to draft will not be available when they draft or they will completely wiff on the player.

I just hope that the Bills have finally hired competent management in Nix, which is much more important than any single drafted player.

  15. I think Luck will come out. I don't think he is going for a National Championship, and I think the opportunity to be the top pick will be too much, especially considering Locker as well as the potential of getting hurt.

I would be disappointed if the Bills hire Harbaugh. I think he could be fine coach, but I think it is too much transition, especially with all the issues the Bills have had with Rookie head coaches. I do not have a problem with Gailey because I think he is not concerned about winning this year, but is trying to build for the future. If the team is this bad next year or the year after, I will have a completely different opinion of him, but for now, I can deal with the losing if they can select a difference maker in the draft.

  16. Isn't this really who is the worse of two bad head coaches? If pressed I'll go with Gailey as he and Nix have made some incredibly stupid moves and non-moves since arriving resulting in a laughing stock win loss record and no visible plan for improvement.

Their visible plan for improvement is to tank the season to get a top-five draft pick to either use on a franchise quarterback.

  17. I'm waiting for Peyton Manning to become a free-agent. I think he would help more than either of these two players. What you say? Their teams are likely to sign them to long-term contracts before they get to free-agency? Or the Redskins or Raiders are going to outbid every other team to get them, what?

  18. It is a much better situation, since he doesn't have to be involved with rebuilding. The Giants have a much better run front office, and they have an established team with an established coach. I still do not believe he would have been the correct choice as head coach.
