Scott...why do you have to be such a buzzkill and let the cat out of the bag?  We're celebrating RB signings to set up more defense in RD1 for goodness sakes!

    Come on dude.

100% the draft is another story... outside if JA = weak.

Heck McDermott landed Dawkins/ White and Milano in one draft.

2-3 drafts like that = Super Bowl

May want to let coach in the room on draft day.....

    but what do we know.....

McD is in the room...like he is during all off-season.  In fact, his vision is how you end up going defense in RD1 the past 5 out of 7 years of his tenure.  And there are some long-time posters here seeing it could be 6 out of 8.

The Sherfield, Harris, McGovern and Harty (even Boettger) signings are on-brand for the Bills.

Modest, veteran players, and this time the Bills prioritized guys who were younger, not guys at the end Saffold, Sanders, Frank Gore, Star L, Addison.

And Beane tends to sign someone to help the room on both sides of the ball, instead of loading up on one side.

Yeah...Beane's free agency prowess this off-season really gives him a leg up in the Executive of the Year award for 2023.  On offense alone the haul of two WR3/4 types, a guard, and now a RB speak to that in volumes.  Especially considering they pushed more cap down the road to get themselves into a position to sign these guys.  He'll solidify the award when they go safety or LB in Round 1.

There will be your first three picks, almost certainly.  Order will depend on their big board,  but it will be WR, MLB, and swing tackle.

Bills lead the league in taking the best player available at a position of defense.  It could well go down that way after the CB, RB, LB sequence last year.

It’s the unfortunate consequence of a defensive head coach.

And a GM who went along with that roster building strategy, didn't pound the table for more offense, and spent heavily on middling UFAs that did not offer value.

Perhaps there's a few moves left and they're learning off the last couple off-seasons.  Who knows.

Exactly the kind of signing that could be expected this off season with a tight cap situation.  He's got enough speed, though he's certainly not Tyreek Hill fast.  He has good hands, gets separation, can play in the slot or outside, is an outstanding blocker for a WR and can play special teams.  Not, he doesn't have a name in the league and no, his total production is very limited, but if he had a big name and lots of production on his resume, the Bills would not be able to afford him.

Much of this decision depends on which role they want him to play.  If he's their idea of competition at WR2, well, not ideal.  If he's a WR4/5 type who'll play special teams, great.

Most people expected a higher-level WR signing before the draft, i.e. not an unproven rookie, who would give Buffalo a complement to Diggs who they acquired 3 years ago.

It's not unreasonable to be disappointed with acquisitions who clearly aren't putting them alongside Cincinnati, Kansas City, or their primary AFC competition.

Absolutely not.  He’s a fairly big upgrade over Kumerow.  He’s a lock to make the roster

Upgrading WR4-5 is not a major impact to the offensive talent.

I always kind of wish it was a 2 year deal, just in case he comes in and is great but seems like a solid signing

Bills liked him so much they gave him a 1 year deal.  Not a ringing endorsement.

He was actually one of the most productive receivers for the dolphins down the stretch. I love it.

Games 12-16: 9 receptions for 137 yards, 0 TD's, 16 targets.  Not active in Week 17; took 48 offensive snaps in playoff game at Buffalo - 0 targets.

It's funny.  I have no concerns about Davis.  I think he's almost a model #2.  I think it's all about Dorsey.

I've never been impressed with Jeudy, as I've said elsewhere I don't think it makes sense to add a personality like Hopkins to the receiver room, and I feel the same about Beckham, plus his injury concern.  I'd much rather spend resources elsewhere, namely the offensive line and middle linebacker.

Hopefully this season Dorsey will give Davis the ability to separate, run more than 2-3 patterns, and make contested catches.

    Keep. Adding. Speed.

Amazing that they are only starting to understand this after KC and CIN showed offensive speed is not optional the past 3 seasons.

Which also make their reported interest in a big back make less sense, but that's another McBeanie non-sequitur.

  9. https://www.buffalobills.com/news/takeaways-as-gm-brandon-beane-looks-ahead-to-the-2021-offseason

The GM himself said after the 13 seconds game your last game says a lot about what's wrong with your roster.  And that holds true for the 2022 season.

Observant posters saw and commented on the lack of WR depth and issues along the OL heading into last season.  Offensive skill talent speed has been an issue for a couple seasons now along with over-investment into the defense which lacks scheme versatility.

Maybe McBeane up their game from the last 2 off-seasons and figure how to construct a roster that isn't cap poor and gets value.  Maybe they support Josh more this season...but the last 2 end of season losses spoke volumes about where they were.

What was the game when he without getting touched  just dropped the ball on a return which turned the momentum 100% in the game and we ended up getting beat?

Probably the home loss to Indianapolis on 11/21/21.  Bills defense made a stop late in the 2nd quarter and Indy kicked a FG to make it 17-7.  McKenzie fumbled the ensuing KO back to the Colts who scored a couple players later to go into the half up 24-7.  Buffalo lost 41-15.

It stinks that Dorsey had him not run out of bounds at Miami.  Or double catch passes.  Or just be a situationally unaware player.

Are you a moderator?? I find your statement inaccurate. Btw, whenever I post a thread THAT is my opinion, it’s not always needed to elaborate on it.

The second point of your response really doesn’t make sense. The point of this thread is contracts and if they are good ones but according to you if the Bills are drafting players in the mid 1st rd that “provided less than ideal value at a position of lesser importance” than we got bigger issues than I have realized! Lol!

The 3rd point that you’re trying to make is oh well if we whiff on a 1st rd pick and do nothing to minimize that mistake then that’s ok, that’s the price you pay. Do I have that right??

Anyways how did I do?? Did I engage and argue enough for you?

I'm not going to debate message board etiquette with you.  If you can't understand that there's responsibility as a good poster to engage people within a thread you created then I'm sorry.  Take the constructive criticism and move on.  Or not.  It's up to you.

  13. 21 minutes ago, Tipster19 said:

Then he should have been traded. I just don’t understand why anyone would let a 1st rder run the full 5 years and not get anything out of it. Aren’t the GMs paid to know what to do?

Argument?? That’s the problem with this place, too many people want to argue.

Well, here I am. What do you want to “engage” about? Read the title, I clearly asked for opinions.

I have observed a trend with threads you start in that you never re-enter to discuss.  It's just throw a subject out, let others debate, and then go away.

The discussion and debate around Edmunds has continued ad nauseam to the point it's asinine  The team made a business decision on a player that, yes they selected high, but who provided less than ideal value at a position of lesser importance.  He was a matchup disadvantage for that defense and those who used bulk stats always missed that.   He was not the player they envisioned to him to be.

Edmunds the player is the first example that fans cannot have everything (player-wise) you want and that includes players drafted.  Eventually the cap must be managed and they're doing it.  Right or wrong, that's the issue.

Last year the Bills were the Super Bowl favorite.

After the Super Bowl this year they opened behind KC as second.

As of now they are as low as 5th on sites behind KC, CIN, SF, PHI. The Jets jumped from a longshot to right behind the top 5. MIA has jumped to the next tier with SD, DAL, JAX, BAL.

I'd like to see the bets made on Buffalo right now from those pointing to Vegas odds as evidence this team is better.

Because I wouldn't make that wager after re-signing Poyer, then signing a UFA guard, backup QB,  and diminutive WR with speed.  Gonna take a lot more than that.

We DO have a bit of a cap situation - even w/ the restructures. We can't spend like other teams this year.

Next year, Cincy will have that problem. We made our "splash" in FA last year.  That's not something most teams can do in consecutive years.

The same guys who put this team into that cap situation are the ones people here hope will acquire new players and build a better offense.  Jury's out on McBeane.

  16. Whenever I see threads like this it reminds me that most people do not have or want to have a continuous improvement mindset to life.

It also reminds me somewhat of the movie Hoosiers when Myra Fleener says, "I've seen them, the real sad ones.  They sit around the rest of their lives talking about the glory days when they were seventeen years old."

It's real nice the Bills were in the playoffs the last 4 seasons...but those days are past.  It's time to look forward, yeah get excited, but demand excellence in next season and beyond.  As much as I remember the 90s Bills, that was 30 years ago.  Heck 2020 was 3 years ago already!

Cincinnati the past two seasons.  Philadelphia last year.  San Francisco.  What are we doing here?

When Mike Brown and John Lynch and crew are out-wizarding you, something's wrong.

Maybe they're working on something, who knows, but early returns are not promising.  Reeks of more of the same packaged as different.

The stars aligned at the right time for the Chiefs.  It doesn't mean they're a better team than the Bills.

The better team doesn't ALWAYS win the SB.  NFL history has taught us that.  A lot is getting hot at the right time, and getting some breaks.

Translation: "It's hard to win in the NFL."

My biggest concern with this signing is the offense last year essentially ZERO horizontal routes. The shallow cross was almost non-existent.

    Can/will Dorsey properly utilize Deonte?

Buffalo needs to feature a better pass blocking OL to run that sort of passing game.  McGovern looks to be supporting that strategy.

They were limited last season because for some reason McBeane wanted a mauling OL to run the ball with Josh.  It was poorly aligned...looks like last season (and it's early) taught them they were backa$$wards on offense.
