  1. Which position is the most important position to upgrade on offense and defense this offseason?

My votes are LT and DT.

There's no point in taking a QB if you can't protect him. IMO, the best way to ruin a rookie QB is to give him an inferior line. Since LT is the most important position on the field that needs to be addressed first.

IMO, the pass rush is helped by the Bills great secondary and being able to stop the run. The biggest problem with the D last year was stopping the run. A big DT is definitely the biggest need.

LT and QB are neck and neck, but a great QB could compensate for poor pass protection. You think if we had Marino in his prime that the '09 Bills would have won a few more games?

  2. While most of the sportswriting world has already speculated that Kurt Warner's press conference, set for 3 p.m. ET Friday, will serve as his official retirement announcement, our own inside source informs me that Warner is definitely walking away. I've learned not to question his judgment.

Which begs the question of Warner's legacy, of course. If you'd asked me about his Hall of Fame chances a year ago, I would have hemmed and hawed before saying that yes, he "probably" had a good chance to get in "someday." (Okay, so I hedge my bets.) Looking back, I wonder what I was thinking, because the two-time MVP looks like a first-ballot lock.

Since The Associated Press started handing out Most Valuable Player honors in 1957, only six players have won the award more than once: Peyton Manning (4), Brett Favre (3), Jim Brown (3), Johnny Unitas (3), Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Warner. Brown, Unitas, Montana, and Young were each elected in their first year of eligibility. Manning and Favre certainly will be. Is there any valid reason to keep Warner out of that group?

If there is, let's hear it.

I can't think of anything more he would need to do to warrant election to the HOF. The guy is a hall of famer, plain and simple.

  3. EDIT: i'm talking players only.....on-field.

i'm going to say Thurman Thomas......

League MVP.....and best all around all purpose RB to ever play the game !!

    #1- Thurman

    #2- Bruce

    #3- O.J.

    #4- Cookie

    #5- Kelly

    **EDIT (stolen from the "wildrabbit"):

What most fail to realize is... the Bills used the running game to set up the pass. The Bills used to run more then they threw the ball in the Kelly era. While the Bills O line was better then most, it wasn't even close to what Emmitt Smith had in Dallas.

If you go back and look at what Thurman Thomas did, 5x pro bowls-1991 NFL MVP-1992 NFL offensive player of the year.

Thurman Thomas is the only NFL player to lead the league in total yards from scrimmage for four consecutive seasons.

Now considering he almost never caught the ball while in college it is amazing that he is one of six NFL backs to have over 400 receptions and 10,000 yards rushing. He is also one of five backs to have rushed for over 1,000 yards for 8 consecutive seasons. I know I'm leaving out a bunch of playoffs stats and other stuff. Just think, this kid kept Barry Sanders on the bench in College.

The guy was like 70% of the offense in Buffalo, he gets my vote.

I like all your choices. And then I look at which of those guys would significantly change the current Bills team success, and I come up with Kelly. I would love to have any one of those guys on the current team, but Kelly brought so much to the table I have to say he is the guy. If you just go by records and Pro Bowl appearances, Bruce is the man.

I tried to find an article speaking directly about this but couldnt find one. Making those players fly in to Miami to practice then let them fly back to prepare for the SB. That has to be the most idiotic !@#$ed up thing I've heard in a long time.

Forcing players who are in the SB to come to the Pro Bowl is just plain dumb.

  5. Most influential have to be Page and Van Halen. Page really established the style for metal guitar and for years everyone learning to play metal used him as the model. Then when Van Halen came out everyone used him as the new model with the tapping. And on a broader scale Hendrix for elevating the role of the electric guitar from accompanient to centerpiece.

    Some honorable mentions:

Gilmour (great thematic soloing, without him Waters' compositions would have been folk songs)

Greg Lake (eclectic and technically proficient, ashame he never gets his due ... Karn Evil 9, for example)

Brian May (great theatrical soloing, and amazing sound from his home made guitar)

Slash (gets credit for bucking the trend of trying to impress with tapping and shredding; generated memorable solos with a pre-Van Halen style)

One guy I never get is Clapton. I just don't see why he's on so many short lists. Fairly conventional blues-rock style.

    No Eddie Van Halen?

    9. Buffalo Bills -- Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma: Been here, done that, right, Bills fans? Long searching for the next great quarterback of Western N.Y. -- whether it be Rob Johnson, J.P. Losman or Trent Edwards -- the Bills take another shot at a potential quarterback of the future in Bradford. I'm told his shoulder should be fully healed by Draft Day. We'll know for sure after a few individual workouts. If both Clausen and Bradford are gone, look for Buffalo to scoop up an offensive tackle.

I will be extremely pissed if we draft bradford with McClain and Bulaga still on the board. I know we need to address the qb situation, but Bradford is too big a question mark to take with the #9 overall pick. McClain and Bulaga both looked like they could've been NFL starters in 2009, both are at positions where we have a need, much safer picks in my opinion.

If we don't have a blue chip QB on the board when #9 pick rolls around, I want the best lineman or LB available.

    Direct Quote:

"I'm never going to discount again on who's it with. I've been able to kind of pick and choose now after all these years about where I want to go to, and I really, really, really wanted to draft Drew Brees when I was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, and thank goodness that didn't happen otherwise I'd still be stuck up there in cold Buffalo. "

    ----

Greggggggo is my least favorite person ever associated with the Bills.

Yes, even more so than Dickkkkko.

He was not a likeable guy.

  8. Just got a generic email from WGR stating that the station has talked to Billick himself off the record and he stated that he has had no official contact with the Bills and that no interview has been set up.

Not groundbreaking news or something we didn't already assume, but just passing it along to everyone.

With OBD being so quiet on interviews and Buddy saying that he wanted to address the Head Coach position ASAP, one may assume they are trying their darnedest to talk Cowher into the spot and possibly throwing the kitchen sink at him....or at least we can hope.

I think it's safe to shut this thread down.

  9. The retention of Bob Sanders on the staff seems to indicate that Gailey is planning on sticking with the 4-3. Sanders coached a 4-3 while he was with the Packers, and while here. He doesn't seem to fit the bill if Gailey is planning on switching to a 3-4, unless he reassigns Sanders to coach a different position (which seems unlikely)...

4-3 is the best defense for pressuring the quarterback, and in this division it's probably a good strategy.

  10. Makes me sad to think how good the Bills "Could have been"

I think that the Bryant McKinnie "miss" and the big swing and a whiff on McCargo really hurt. How does a team consistently blow first round draft picks?? Are they taking lessons from Detroit? (Ralph does live there you know...)

  11. I just heard it on the radio 40 minutes ago on my way home. Lee Hamilton said Bills and Rams offcials have held secret meetings with Eagles officials in Mobile Alabama and have interest in trading for Mcnabb. Take it for what its worth but the last time Lee reported Bills news about Jim Bates interviewing for the DC job he ended up being correct. I hope this is true.

I'm not in favor of a trade for McNabb. We need every draft pick we can get our hands on to rebuild the team.

Don't need no QB with a splashy name, LMAO!

  12. I heard that mentioned on some talk radio I was listening to today, and I'm not sure if I can come up with any that are worse.....Given that the Super Bowl was in reach. Gain nothing and you have a long shot.....Gain 5 and have a decent shot...Gain ten and have a good shot..........The very worst thing you can't do is throw the ball across your body across the middle.

Are there any worse ones that I'm not thinking of?

That was a tough one. I wonder if he would have made the same decision if he wasn't so beat up. Farve got pounded in that game . . .
