1. "which would require the Secretary of the Treasury to issue to each Social Security recipient born before 1950 a personalized certificate of a written guarantee of a monthly benefit, plus a guaranteed annual cost-of-living increase." Ooooh...a certificate from the Secretary of the Treasury. That'll keep SS solvent. !@#$ing douche...
2. I think it'll bother Wacka more than you, considering he's losing the opportunity to gloat...
3. And that's just the "before" pictures...
4. I'm setting up a Monte Carlo simulation right now. Take a population of 10k (to start, if it runs well I'll up it to 50K or 100k) with a normal distribution of "intelligence", pick out 2000 random pairs and "breed" them, the first child according to a yet-to-be-defined correlation between parent and child (I'll try 1, .5, 0, -.5, and -1 in different runs), and four more according to a .5 correlation with the first child. That'll give me a new population of 10k...and then I'll repeat. We'll see how the distribution evolves. Then I'll give the "smart" members of the population preferential treatment (any pair with a mean "intelligence" over 100 gets 6 children, below 100 gets 4), and we'll see how THAT distribution evolves. $20 says there's little discernable difference.
5. So after this book is published, if Goldman were to off Simpson...anyone think any court in the country would convict him?
6. So you're not Canadian, why should you speak it? It's "check".
7. Remember when your country was a world superpower? Yeah, neither does anyone else. So you'll speak what you're told. Damn canucks...
8. As soon as I figure out what the !@#$ a "cheque" is. Speak American, ya !@#$ing Brit-wanna-be.
9. You know he's not 14, right? Just short...
10. Actually, I thought the plan was pretty clear to anyone with half a brain: 1) Invade country 2) Stabilize country 3) "Create" a democratic government 4) Gradually transition security responsibilities from US troops to Iraqi forces 5) Draw down US troop levels. That the plan isn't very good (ignoring, as it does, reality) is a completely different issue. It is poor policy, for reasons I mentioned earlier, but it's main failing is that its implementation has been poor (at best). It's also dated; the administration seems to use the phrase "stay the course" as an excuse to not adapt to conditions on the ground...hence while the plan may have been workable early on when the violence was more characterized by anti-occupation and anti-government fighting, it's execrably futile now that the violence is more sectarian. HOWEVER...it still seems to me a damn sight better than "Let's get the hell out and talk things over while the Iraqis kill themselves", which is nothing more than a designed and intended failure and abrogation of foreign policy in the classic Clinton mold of not addressing issues. And Murphy thinks that doing that while pursuing "aggressive regional diplomacy" is going to increase US credibility? Because it worked with the Dayton Accords? News flash, Mr. Murphy: the US didn't have any credibility in Bosnia until we put troops on the ground, Dayton notwithstanding. And this is why I'm so contemptuous of the Democratic Party. Their idea of foreign policy is pure, willful, pollyannaish ignorance. It's about as poorly grounded in reality as the administration's policy, but with the added stupidity of being almost totally reactive.
11. What do you consider 'significant'? We couldn't track guys with boxcutters. 809956 Boxcutters don't emit radiation. What they can do with radiation sensors is pretty damned amazing.
12. Wait...you're not going to tell me I'm wrong because even though I've worked with radioactive materials in college physics labs, you're a Marine and therefore right? Who are you, and where's the real VABills?
13. Plutonium's an alpha emitter. You can shield it with a piece of paper. If the pilot's wearing clothes, he's protected.
14. You mean withdrawing completely, then negotiating while throwing money at them contingent on security they can't provide seems reasonable to you? The only upside to that plan is that it won't be Americans being killed. Everything else is pretty much tailored to make things worse.
15. For additional information about the heritability of intelligence, I suggest reading the abstract paragraph of the following link: http://psycprints.ecs.soton.ac.uk/archive/00000085/#html 809734 Not only did you not answer my second question, you obviously don't even understand it. The question is: how is it possibly valid to use a sibling-sibling correlation to prove a causal parent-child relationship?
16. I think aj has pictures of that, too...
17. He might be making it up, then. I mean...read the last line of your sig. Boy's got an unhealthy obsession...
18. I believe originally in baseball the AL and NL didn't play each other...so the winner of the AL played the winner of the NL at the end of the season. Hence the World Series. And the league winners were...the teams that had the most wins. Then MLB got bigger...and they introduced divisions, because 12 or 16 team leagues were too unwieldy. So it used to be pretty close to what you suggest...and in my opinion, better. Is it fair that azjepp has nudie pics of Lana, and I'm here talking to you? Life isn't fair. If the Jays can't handle that...oh, well. Then they'll know how the Milwalkee Brewers feel...
19. That kid's a kitty. Clearly he didn't play tag in school...
20. AJ told me about that picture, too...said it was quite artistic... Frankly, I'm starting to wonder about him...
21. The NFL doesn't have a minor league. Just Arizona. And the NFL will go the way of MLB soon enough, if Snyder and Jones have their way. They're too interested in maximizing their short-term return to worry about maintaining the long-term viability of the NFL brand.
22. So me PM-ing him the link is a bad thing, then?
23. Hey, it's the American Way: "Ignore it and it goes away. If it doesn't...you're only in office for eight years, max, so !@#$ it."
