  1. The Tap Room is a great suggestion for live blues, and a great place to get 'socially lubricated' - after a little cuckoo juice, head down the block to...

    Club Diablo

Don't worry 'bout the Elmwood Strip - pretty boring there, unless you're looking for neighborhood-type places. Maybe a couple of decent bars in Allentown (the old Pink, Nietzsche's), but you won't miss much if you stay near the Chip Strip, right by the Hampton Inn.

You wanna hit a few of these...

    Darcy McGee's

    Buckin' Buffalo Saloon

Crocodile (you can see the Hampton Inn & Suites in the background)

SoHo (no website, 'cept for some place in Thailand)

    SubZero

    Bayou

Bars are open 'til 4 am, so don't start too early. Stay safe.

Thanks PTR. I just want to give a thanks to all of you guys. It's been a lot of fun reading all your posts with places and suggestions. I am now fully confident that we're going to have a great time up there. Thanks again and if anyone's tailgating before the Raiders game let me know and we'll stop by and have a few beers!

  2. Better yet, here's my assessment of that walk.

    1. Goodbars: the ultimate dive bar. A good 20 beers on tap, and a nice patio to observe the little coeds walking down from the college.

    2. Coles, the classic Buffalo bar. Another 20 beers on tap. Good Guiness, and maybe get your wings here (or try the Buffalo Shrimp--a take on wings).

    3. Bullfeathers is next. Again, lots of beer choices, strange crowd.

    4. Next up, the old "No Names" at the corner of Bidwell and Elmwood. Can't remember what it's called now, but a great place to sit for one of their many micro brews on tap.

    5. Things get a bit dicey from here. Ok, maybe you can take your first trip to the east side of the street when you reach Merlins. Classic biker bar and a great little patio out front. Always have live music on Saturdays. Beer selection sucks, unless all you need is Blue or Molson.

    6. A few blocks from there, you hit pay dirt again. You can stop in at Mode, but it's a bit too yuppity/artsy-fartsy. Go straight to Toro. Yeah, it's really a restaurant, but the scenery, read that as hot babes, is great. Besides, when you're ready for your next real beer, Faherty's is right next door. Have the Murphy's there, and play some tunes on the juke.

    7. Better have a couple at Faherty's, because the next bar is a little hike. You basically need to walk to Allen at this point. Again, I'd recommend a trip to the East side just before Allen street, with a stop at Cozumel--best deck on the Elmwood strip. Might as well do a shot of tequila here.

    8. Ok, now it's time to take a little detour. Turn right on Allen, and you have your hands full. There's Mulligan's Brick bar, the old pink (now something else), and The Allen Street Hardware Cafe (or something like that), which will have one of the best beer selections in the city. After that, head across the street and do Nietzsches--probably a cover because of live music, but always good.

    9. At this point, a big decision to make. Do you wander back down Elmwood to the Hampton and Chippewa? OR do you head east on Allen toward Colter Bay? I suggest the latter. Colter Bay is another great beer bar. Of course, you will have to stop at Gabriel's Gate before you reach Colter BAy.

    10. After Colter Bay, you've got Gallaghers, then head down Virginia.

    11. On Virginia you've got Fat Bobs, Mothers, and Scarlet's (for the hot professional babe crowd). In fact, once you're done with Virginia, go back on the Delaware Ave side of that block and stop at "The Snooty Fox" (another babe hangout), and Stillwaters--very impressive upscale place.

    12. From here, it's just a hop, skip, and a jump back to Chippewa, assuming you are still standing.

    Good luck.

Seriously - thank you! This is awesome. But one question - there seems like a lot of steps in this plan. What time do the bars close? I think we may need to get an early start to hit all these places.

  3. Hi all,

A friend and I will be driving up from nyc for the Raiders game. I have a few questions if you guys wouldn't mind. I'm thinking we should stay in or near downtown to go out on saturday night. Does that sound right or is there somewhere else we should go? We're both 28/29 and want to go out partying on sat night and get a flavor for buffalo nightlife and to prove Willis wrong about the women. Any ideas on places/towns/neighborhoods to find a hotel? I see Amherst and Williamsville on hotels.com, but wanted to see what you guys thought.

Thanks a lot for your help, it's much appreciated!

    Kenny

    GO BILLS!!!

  4. i love these posts. i wish i lived closeby so i could include tailgating in my ritual. but i will be up there week 3 for the raiders game (friend from work somehow likes the raiders so we'll take a lil road trip). anyway, sorry - here is my gameday ritual:

    - typically wake up fully rested for sunday funday because for the most part i stop going out on saturdays during the season because sunday is usually more fun

    - bring out the 2 extra tvs to put on the sides of the 54'' (sunday ticket in all it's glory)

    - put on kevin everett t-shirt

    - put on posluszny jersey

    - tournament style rock, paper, scissors my roommates until last man standing - winner gets their team's game on the big screen

    - 1-4pm: anywhere along the spectrum from ecstatic, happy, mildly impressed, mildly depressed, unhappy, end of 2007 cowboys game feeling

    - 4-8pm: second half games = drink, eat and hang out

    - night game: start and fall asleep by halftime

  5. Wait, I want to play.

Would you guys tell me what you think of my team (14 teams, 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1WR/RB, K, DEF - standard scoring w/6pts per passing td):

    QB

    Derek Anderson

    Matt Schaub

    RB

    Clinton Portis

    Julius Jones

    Maurice Morris

    Ladell Betts

    Tatum Bell

    Michael Bush

    WR

    Reggie Wayne

    Chad Johnson

    Chris Chambers

    Chris Henry

    Roscoe Parrish

    TE

    Tony Scheffler

    K

    Adam Vinateiri

    DEF

    San Diego

I was pissed because Lee Evans was taken the pick before me when I took Chris Chambers, but I guess they're pretty similar in terms of fantasy production. My RB situation is not optimal but I think serviceable.

  6. Its hard to say who has impressed me most because only a few players were consistent in both games so far. Most Bills players have looked good and one, and bad in the other. The consistent ones I am impressed with is McKelvin, Youboty and Poz.

If I had to go and pick an under the radar guy, I'm definitely impressed with S Jon Corto. He has no only been all over the field on defense, but also on special teams too. I think we might be shocked by some cuts at safety this year. Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me to see Bryan Scott let go.

Really - i thought that Bryan Scott was one of the holdovers from last year that i'm really happy with. he's like a linebacker in a db's body. he's a great hitter and i saw a few plays he was in on in the pitt game. i'd be real shocked if he got cut.

  7. jabari greer - i think he could really take a huge step forward this year. i know we drafted mckelvin, but greer is a playmaker. mckelvin will need some time, and in that time greer could really continue on his streak of great play from last year and otas. coming back knowing what you can do because you've already done it and being able to build on that is something that you can't underestimate with him. really psyched about poz and ko simpson as my favorite post-injury returning starters. i know a lot of teams feel real good before the season starts and we're young, but this squad could turn the corner to legit like real soon.

  8. If Brown could be had for a decent price he'd be a good pickup. Regardless of everyone's perception of his health, it would fill a need position, if even only temporarily.

This team has holes to fill that can't all be addressed by high draft picks this year. My impression is that Marv and Dick have a plan, but when they took over they knew this was no quick fix. Three years to remake this team over. This is the second year and if we can focus on something other than RB in the early rounds, then great.

fair response. i didn't think about it like that.

  9. am i the only one who does not want chris brown on this team? the only way this would make me happy would be a 1/2 year deal similar to what we gave thomas - with the caveat that we are able to land bush in the 3rd. i know they wont draft lynch because a lot of fans want lynch and fan favorites just never seem to happen. and that's not to say that i wouldn't be happy passing on lynch and taking willis, okoye, branch, or even a trade-down that nets us posluszny. but if we sign chris brown to a rich multi-year deal and dont target rb early i might cry.

  10. is the LB/RB pool so shallow that we have to regurgitate the same names over and over and over and over and over and over again?

Does this add anything of value to the conversation? There are players that are recognized and that there is a level of 'comfort' with. When you're talking about top lbs or rbs, there usually are a consensus few that are talked about 'over and over'. If it bothers you, maybe you should join a discussion about 3rd or 4th round lb or rb picks

  11. Is it possible to draft Lynch at 12 and then trade our 2nd and a 3rd to get back into late 1st and draft Posluszny? Would that screw us without having a 2nd rounder? We'd be able to draft best CB or DT or G available in the 3rd? But we also do lose the ability to have 4 day one picks. I dont know, I think I'd be pretty happy with Lynch, Posluszny and (best available need) going into the 4th round.

  12. I didn't say I wasn't happy. I said I was skeptical. I'm GLAD that they seem to be addressing the OL and with the length of contract they gave these guys, I would hope that they are more of a solution than past years acquisitions.

All I know is that they gave a lot of money to 2 guys whose names don't seem a lot different from Bennie Anderson, Mike Gandy, Chris Villarrial, Tutan Reyes, etc...

Well luckily we're not worried about your perception of their names

  13. We take Marshawn Lynch at 12 then trade Willis and our 2nd rd for NYG's 20th pick thats a possiblity.

doesnt sound bad at all, but we do need someone like quinn pitcock or justin blalock or even patrick willis (basically impact dt or og or lb). im not sure if we lose that to get lynch and hopefully get back into 1st round. if we could and one of those or on par with those guys sounds pretty f-in good too though. underclassmen, keep declaring - please.
