I try to make each post worthy of the posters who will read it. BF2...from way downtown. Nice. I put you in there, because, as you know, I know, that you know, that I know that you mostly threaten, and even if you do put me on ignore...when people start quoting me making fun of you....you take me right off ignore, again. ------------------------- Thanks to all but DC_Tom, who is a ball of no fun, for having fun with this.

When Does It Stop Being Bush's Fault?
OCinBuffalo replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yeah. Basically. Hey, I'm not the clown running around calling myself a progressive. If you have issues with these people bastardizing the meaning of the word "progress", but not actually supporting real progress, you should take it up with them. Fundamentally, a progressive is supposed to look for improvement via REFORM, and that reform is supposed to come via new ideas/technologies. However, reform doesn't necessarily mean destroy. In terms of progressives, it means improvement through intellectually sound change. So, yeah, if we need change in military spending, ideally the progressive looks for ways to improve the military by spending less on the existing stuff, and finding new/cheaper weapons, ways to deploy troops, ships, etc. Hell the Joint Strike Fighter is a fine example of what happens with progressive thinking is applied to the military (Cue DC_Tom talking about how stupid that is) What? The JSF is cheaper, applicable to every service, therefore easier to maintain, and therefore an intellectually sound change.... Look, the military is not the same as Medicare. And treating them as though they are, is folly. Medicare is a bureaucratic schema that is fundamentally based on liberal opinion. There are a ton of approaches to accomplish Medicare's scope. A real progressive would identify the problems with it, and seek to reform it. Period. In contrast, the military is based on facts that have been with us since we were cavemen. There really is only 2 approaches to the military: defend the walls and stay isolated, or, defend our ability to trade elsewhere. Medicare and the rest of the entitlements are liberal constructs, and therefore, we have every right to demand that they fix them when they break. The military is based on a reality that is not subject to interpretation or the opinion of a political party. If there is a single thing in our government that is not broken, it is the military. -
1st Round Pick comes down to BPA
OCinBuffalo replied to BuffFromBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So much so that he's worth losing this year's 2nd or 3rd? When there will other guys available at their spot who are nearly as good if not = value/risk in the first round? Come on, man. I think it's time that the "trade down"/"trade up" people start facing the facts: 1. No team wants to trade out of getting a blue chip round 1 player. Should we have traded down and not gotten Dareus last year? Would that have been a smart move? Of course not. 2. No team wants to give up the chance to draft a potential this year starter(round 2 and 3) so they can move up and get the same guy they will get if they stay where they are. I think it's also time that the "Buddy is asleep/Ralph is Cheap/McShay says its a reach" people to face the fact that: 1. No matter who we draft at 10, unless one of the top 6 falls to us.....we will be "reaching" in terms of draft value. I don't even need to bother with the post-draft analysis. I can write it right now: 10. Buffalo Bills The Bills did Ok in FA in addressing the biggest need they have had since Aaron Scholbel retired, but they didn't get Peyton Manning. Anyway, they drafted this guy, and while this guy will help them, the value they got at 10 isn't good enough to put them over the top. In fact, according to my draft value, they reached for this player. Meanwhile, they still have holes at (insert the OT, WR, CB or LB positions we didn't draft here). Not good enough for a team that has missed the playoffs for the last 12 years and is desperately trying to get back before the old man dies. Have to wonder how long Buddy Nix and Chuck Gaily will last, especially with drafting Spiller, and still not having a good TE on this team. Grade C+ And yeah, the Chuck this is there intentionally, as getting our people's names wrong is pretty much par for the course.... Tell me this isn't exactly what we will get from yahoo sports, etc. -
1st Round Pick comes down to BPA
OCinBuffalo replied to BuffFromBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually there really is a clear distinction between the top 6-8 players....and #9-22, for most of the value/mock draft guys. So, why would anyone want to trade up to 10? If all the players are basically in the same boat, might as well stay where you are and keep your picks. BPA is really BPAs at #10....and regardless of who we take....they will be called a reach. (I plan on starting a thread with that exact title on draft day, just to try and get ahead of it) The only way we don't get the "reach" tag associated to our #10, is if one of the top 6-8 players drops to us, and we take him. -
When Does It Stop Being Bush's Fault?
OCinBuffalo replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
THIIIIIIIIIIS! This is exactly right. Progressives have to face up to the fact that the current policy they support has very little to do with being a progressive. Resurrecting ideas from 1936, or 1965....is not progress. By the Teddy Roosevelt definition of progressive, or by any other definition, the policies and the definition do not match. Where is the new technology/new ideas being used to solve problems? Where is the intellectual commitment to improve society by rejecting the old things that don't work, and replacing them with things that do? You can't be for improving society, and, also be for things that have been around for 50+ years, that clearly have no effect, or make things worse....and call yourself a progressive. Rather, the people espousing income redistribution, and the continuation of these failing programs, for the sake of the ideology they represent, and not because they improve society, should just call themselves socialists and get it over with. Finally, the fundamental tenet of a progressive is that: they are FOR reform. You cannot be against reforming: 1. the tax code 2. entitlements 3. SSI 4. DoD all or nothing spending 5. basically the entire Federal government and how it operates and call yourself a progressive. Who is standing in the way of reform on each and every issue? Who is trying to keep things the way they are/"have always been"? Progressives.....that aren't. -
With the changes in defensive scheme....and based on who we have drafted where...are we good in the defensive backfield, or not? Yeah, I know we weren't good last year, but that seems to be more on the screwball coaching situation than anything. I have read the "4_3 over" stuff that was posted in another thread a while back...I don't have the link" But please, can we get somebody who knows this stuff beyond the basics to tell us whether the people we have, given the 4_3, and given whether that means we will play zone or man, are good/marginal/awful? The reason I ask is: if we are losing a LB in favor of a DL...doesn't that mean we would need better CBs at least? I dunno, the more I read about this, the more contradictory it seems to be. And, didn't we draft McKelvin and Byrd because of their skills. Seems like that's a waste if we are playing zone all the time. In my non-football experience, the reason you play man...is because you have the guys with the skill set to do it. The reason you play zone is because either you are screwing with the other team's offense, trying to keep them off balance, or because you can't stay with their guys. And, won't drafting a CB at 10 also be a waste...if we are mostly playing zone? I understand why not if it's zone/blitz...but not if the base coverage is zone....or maybe I don't.

KD...haven't seen you so much lately. I do remember some classic Moslon Golden beat downs....but...with neither conner or MG here....in honor of that....and based on what I remember KD in CT couldn't have started this thread because it doesn't involve Wall Street, some dopey thing none of us know about in Connecticut, or bashing on Molson Golden.
-
Ok....then you get the golden star for today. However, you do know that I am referring to Dostoyevsky stretching out his novels because he was paid by the word, right? Yeah...I was thinking you weren't making fun of me....and instead...were praising my writing ability....because....I'm a narcissist. Don't start getting butt hurt with me now...you already have enough trauma with Tom.

DC_Tom....swing and a miss? Again? That's 2 threads in a row now. I guess there's something to that "IQ being better measured in terms of 7 different scales rather than one" theory, isn't there? Yeah, my intention was to decry this story....and not laugh at it...and you...and the hazing that is going on in Congress....and....Christ....whatever. Go get some coffee, or whatever it is you do to get unboggled. See? That wasn't so hard, was it? It's Dostoyevsky, numbnuts. Dostoyevsky is the reference you are looking for here. Have no fear, I get paid plenty per the word....just not in the way you think. Funny though....me like. Something I haven't been to in 5 days?...is hardly something I live by. Now, dying by....yeah. I die laughing, a lot. Well, I try to make each post worthy of the posters who will read it.

Yeah, that's what I said.... and... my reference to "mobile artillery vehicle" didn't tip you off to the target audience? I guess you aren't as smart as I thought. Edit: perhaps If I had added a "thingy" in there......?

Hmm. Last time I was in the club seats...I felt like i was at a PGA event, and said so, loudly, multiple times At least this guy had a pulse. I haven't bought club seats since. I wouldn't turn them down if they were offered to me....but...I wouldn't be as happy as I am in the lower bowl seats with the rest of the miscreants. On the flip side, the worst fight I have ever seen was in the club seats. It was the first year they had them....I don't think security was expecting a 4 v4 battle royale...in the "food court at the mall". It went on for what seemed like forever until some of us broke it up. I will never forget my dad sitting on a guy's back and trying to stay on. If only I had a video...

Yes, the reason we are suggesting alternative scenarios is.....we are Pats fans in disguise....and not because.... ....we are trying to help you with your....paranoia. The reason your monitor flickers every once in a while? That's me, watching you. Btw, you need to lose a few pounds, that sweater vest has to go, and no, wearing that scarf doesn't make you look erudite. That girl will never be into you as long as you keep wearing it to the coffee shop. And, yeah, it's time to get a new laptop...but...understand, I will be present on that one as well...way before you even buy it.

Yes, because nobody will bring booze in....and...because it will be exceedingly easy to ensure nobody has any booze in the parking lot....and...because it will be even easier to eject legions of people from the "premises"....and of course the courts will be overjoyed in having 5 orders of magnitude of increased case load to deal with. Wanna know how things like the GSA scandal happen? Because of this kind of "let's blow the scope of what we can control, way out of proportion, such that there's no way in hell we can control anything, because we are awesome!" thinking. No. The only irony here is that: with real world example after real world example of what happens when people get themselves miles in over their heads, with no way to enforce any of the supposedly well-meaning "regulations" they want to impose on others.... ...other people learn nothing from these examples. They want to keep repeating this pattern, because they don't recognize it, or worse, do recognize it, but want to repeat it as though the outcome will be different this time. Edit: Are you one of the "smoking ban" people from August? Yeah...that worked. Last game I saw all the same people smoking in the same place, that I saw the game before, and have seen smoking in that place...for literally years. Ah, so you have sat next to my mom then? I bought her a yellow flag once...in the hopes that it would be therapeutic. Wrong.
-
Alright, alright.....Christ, you're like an old woman. Fine. I won't drink the entire bottle of Sapphire in the parking lot next time, and I will lay off the shots from my flask until the 2nd half. Happy? As far a the F bombs go...I will try. Should be easier now that we don't have Jauron cluster F'ing(oops, sorry) the clock management any more. However, if I see Brady crying to refs again....well, you'll just have to deal with it. Like was said above....it's a teachable moment. Teach your 11 year old son that when we go to football games, and we see Pats never get called for holding, and then when Brady cries to the refs 11 passing downs in a row....then we use the special F word, followed by the special B word. Teach him that this is the only time Bills fans are supposed to use these special words, because they only apply to Brady. Then you will be raising your son as a proper Bills fan. I can't speak for my mom however, we've been trying to control her at Bills games for years, with 0 effect. j/k of course....except for the part about my mom...she's an...intense...fan. Like "no they weren't off-sides, the refs just want us to lose" when Kelsay is 5 yards into the backfield before the snap, intense. If she ends up next to your son...well, that's a teachable moment too. It's the time to teach him about fan being short for fanatic. At least she won't barf on him, mostly....most of the time.

Why Stephen Hill WILL be the pick at number 10.

Yes! Yes! YES! All WIN! Kill the Mods! Eat the Mods! We are the 99%! Because? Because I want my unrealistic draft scenario in it's own thread! No thread? No Peace! No thread? No Peace! -
That's basically what I said above. I don't deny there's a hell of a coincidence, and I hate coincidences...but I also think there's a lot to this. If nothing else, I think an interesting show on the NFL network, which I refuse to pay for, would be to see how the schedule gets built. If there's nothing nefarious going on, why not show us what does go on? Afraid the fans may get upset? Yeah, that would be awful for the ratings.

EDIT#2: Again, forgetting and to appease Darin.... Levi could not have started this thread....but would have replied to RI Bills Fan's thread with "BS. There's nothing wrong with my scarf! And I won't pay schit, old man!" There, ya happy? Shouldn't have forgot that one either....
-
Bah. I knew I would forget some people. Here: erynthered could have started this thread....with a ball of....perplexity. I dunno. "First silly thing that comes to mind" is how I did it.

One thing you normally cannot count on PPP to be is: lazy. Where the hell is the GSA thread? Why do I have to start it? I've been away for days. Piss poor performance, for most of you. Pathetic. Especially given all the humor that his coming out of this story. I expect a lot more and I am sorely disappointed in many of you. For example: \GoBillsDallas/ could have started this thread via his link dev/null could have started this thread via his link and then one liner drive-by shot LABillz could have started this thread with "shrillness" DiN could have started this thread by describing it as the reason Romney loses, and also why the Republicans will lose the House and Senate GG could have started this thread by being pompous John Adams could have started this thread by demanding that we focus on the morality of it, and refusing to see or discuss the political ramifications, or who is being stupid politically and why, because this is not the politics board, this is the "reasons why John Adams is morally superior to you, and superior in general" board That John graduated from what was a 3-deep safety school for most of us?....irrelevant. He's still superior...primarily because he votes for people you aren't smart enough to know about. Steely Dan could have started this thread by demanding that this relates to the environment somehow Gene Frenkle could have started this thread by demanding that this relates to the environment somehow, but also emanates from the Christian right forcing their religion on people (or, do I have those 2 confused) Buftex could have started this thread by saying "OK, OK, I don't deny we are in for it, but, don't you b-tards give me a hard time, because you all have to admit some of this was happening under Bush too..." Adam could have started by saying "well, if the Republicans had been in charge, they would have spent the $820k too, so....both sides are wrong". Wawrow could have started this thread...by calling us all communistsssss...as wawrow is most certainly one of the disguised lizard people secretly trying to take over (New Nickname for Wawrow: Cobra Commander? Vodka and Cranberry Commander? ) birdog could have started this thread by excusing this ridiculous spending because it helps the economy and is therefore "moral and compassionate" Juror#8 could have started this thread with some goofy premise...and then spend the rest of the thread denying that what he said means what he is saying now, and denying what you are saying both then and now by calling everything anyone says a straw man argument, ad hominem, or whatever else is on This page, but using 8 paras and run on sentences like this one to do it. 3rdnlng could have started this thread relatively normally, but then inevitably trying to find a way to attack DC_Tom with it, because he is still butt hurt B-man could have started this thread with his cut/paste from whatever right wing hit piece website he is reading today PastJoe could have started this thread by saying "See? This wouldn't have happened if we had Hillary" Sage/Machine could have started this thread by saying that the reason these GSA people are incompetent, is that they took college classes in high school, and it wasn't in Ithaca RI Bills Fan could have started this thread in fine curmudgeon form, and then threaten to put everyone who challenges him on ignore..."Get off my lawn, you d_mn short-haired, impeccably dressed, libertarian kids! You'll overpay for crappy government, just like I did, and you'll like it, or I'll....I'll....put you on ignore! " Crayonz could have started this thread by asking why this guy was drinking sangria/red win in Las Vegas, when clearly champagne is the proper wine prior to 5 pm, and this is the law in Nevada. Skooby could have started this thread...but he didn't have any pictures of him in the hot tub with this Neely guy. Chef Jim could have started this thread....with a nice Chianti and some fava beans The only posters who behaved as expected: DC_Tom could not have started this thread, because he rarely starts threads, he just waits for other posters to do it, and then takes the easiest shot available. KellyTheFairandBalancedDog could not have started this thread, because he is still too afraid to post here, now that "his man" has performed exactly as I predicted (Busting my balls in return is both expected and encouraged) Anyway....perhaps the funniest thing in a while is the IRL trolling that is going on with these GSA people. My personal favorite: "Where is the results.gov website?" 404 error! Oh...and on google....results.gov redirects to....stuff from the Bush Admin. I think we all know who's fault this is.... Yet again, the fact that they haven't changed the DNS for this....is Bush's fault. EDIT: How could I forget? Alaska Darin could have started this thread...with a ball of hate. EDIT#2: Again, forgetting and to appease Darin.... Levi could not have started this thread....but would have replied to RI Bills Fan's thread with "BS. There's nothing wrong with my scarf! And I won't pay schit, old man!"

Regardless of whether he knows or not, the effect is working. It's probably 50/50. He's not a complete idiot. His results say he can't be. Along these lines, I have an conspiracy theory about how this thing was handled. I mentioned it 6 months ago. Basically whack-a-mole, causing Obama to blow all kinds of money all over on a bunch of guys, and keeping the Republicans in the news, rather than having a lighting rod all set up early like McCain, who basically was MIA in the media for 4 months after getting the nod, and then became the Washington Generals in the media's non-stop Obama-trotters show. One wonders, as each successive Republican "front-runner" was destroyed by the media, and every single issue you could ever have with Romney was brought out, but brought out as the 2nd fiddle story to whatever the media was killing Cain, etc. for, (anybody remember how fast "I like firing people" died in the face of Cain's "where all the white women at" story?), if this whole thing isn't masterful politics, or just getting lucky? Who could have possibly have predicted: 1. The GSA Scandal 2. New info in The Never Ending Fast and Furious Scandal 3. The Secret Service Scandal would all come out 1 week after Romney became the guy? The media hasn't had a chance to attack him, nobody who is, is resonating, and the polls reflect it. Lucky coincidence? Hard to believe.
-
"Hey his back is turned! Break out the hookers and the booze! What!? No, he won't care unless it's right in front of him, and only if the media finds out."
-
Yes. Or, the Happy Fort, or, the Peacful Province strategy. Military strategy that can be distilled down to being explainable to an 8 year old, in Saturday Morning cartoon format...is what is required given the number of clowns who bumbled around here and elsewhere saying that they "knew" The Surge wouldn't work. The nice part about this strategy it is serves 2 agendas simultaneously: at first it confuses the actual enemy, then it goads them, and ultimately draws them out into a fight they will lose....but, it also does the exact same thing with those who are looking to score political points by "opposing the war". You are one of the few posters here who should get how the second part would work in combination with the first. Last part first: actually it's a variation on how Alexander took, and HELD, what is now most of Afghanistan. This has little in common with Roman methods. The Romans wanted to squeeze the territory they conquered. We, and Alexander, couldn't care less about that, and were/are far more interested in pacifying it such that he/we could focus on the real enemy, the Persians(now Iranians/Pakistani nuts), and not have his/our supply lines harassed. The civil war in Libya has little, if any, in common with this. I do think if we had been able to secure an initial "castle" in Libya, and train their troops there, we might have been able to put responsible, disciplined Libyan soldiers in the field, and have them do the front line fighting/creating the next castle, etc. However, the major difference is: the "army" is not sworn to the law. It is sworn to whoever is paying it and/or who it identifies with politically. That's dangerous. And, as you saw(I still refuse to watch the video) with how Kadafi died, it has no basis in law. The problem with Libya, and Egypt, now, is: we don't have any way to control who is doing what. Nobody owes us a thing, and therefore we have no stake to sit at the table and play. Before you B word about "why should we control who is doing what?"....answer your own question: who will do anything positive and competent besides us? You already know the answer to that question via "who is doing something about Syria"? And, what will Iran/Russia/China be doing, and what happens if we don't do something to counter that? You are fooling yourself if you think these other countries haven't already bought themselves a seat at the table. The only way we are successful now in these countries? Our spies. Now, because we refused to do the smart thing, the spies have to do an incredible job, against large odds. No. Not even close. That was Viet Nam all over again. This time, instead of artillery, it was protect the Democracy Bureaucracy, rather than the people of the country. You would think we would have learned from Viet Nam, that protecting "things", or ideas, instead of people, is fundamentally flawed.

I am under the impression that the teams that make the playoffs etc., get their byes later the next season. The lowest finishers in the divisions get byes earlier etc. This is not always the case, and is certainly subject to scheduling conflicts, etc., but, in general, this is the case. Pretty sure that's right. If it is, then it's no surprise that the Pats, who have won the divisions a lot in the last 9 years, *had* to have their bye later than the Bills....whose standing in the division over the last 9 years has been The thinking behind this is: having to play more games in a row leaves a lot less room for adjustment. Whereas, if you have an early bye, and are a bad team....it's a lot easier to change QBs, Defenses, etc....with that extra week off earlier in the season. Also, if you include training camp, it's easier on the players health wise to get an earlier break. As you say, there's an argument on the other side of this as well. I don't think it's random. But, I also don't think its random for the reasons you say = fix is in. I think that if you are looking for conspiracy anywhere, the most likely place to find it is in how the NFL, TV Networks, and especially, the NFL Network itself, is manipulating the schedule to try and constantly stack up the most viewers possible per game. If anything, the fix is in for $$$$, and I don't blame them for that. Why the hell shouldn't they max out the revenue per game? The real conspiracy here: After losing the battle with the cable companies, the NFL is trying to build value into the NFL Network....so that more of us choose to pay extra on our cable bills for it. This is why every team now has to play at least one Thursday game this year. It's also the reason why match ups of likely playoff teams happen later in the season, so that they can be flexed to Sunday night. I think that the scheduling people have a hell of mess on their hands trying to plan each season, given all of the requirements we know about...and the ones we don't know about, like whatever the TV people are saying about each game, etc.. To combat that, they re-use patterns or segments of the schedule from 4 years ago(the last time all these divisions lined up) etc. that worked last time around. Why would you want to re-invent the wheel every year? I suppose I am arguing utility is a more probable reason for why parts of the schedule repeat, that conspiracy.
