Cheney shoots hunter.....accidently
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Thailog80's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
To report or not to report when to report, today, tomorrow To shoot or not to shoot options, chance, probability...MATH! Still would like to know how far Cheney crossed over the firing line, even if he may have thought he was at the end of it. Is Cheney losing his sharp edge, forgetting where his host was? He has always been a tough debater and in command of the facts as he sees them. What happened?, obviousy the VP messed up. -

Oh they will listen allright, and some poor staffer working with those folks will generate some great ideas, but then some lobby group friendly to the Chair of whatever committee it comes before will state that there isn't enough funding for his pockets in it and another lobbyist will want to go another direction and as a result will get killed in Committee Congress will never see it again or just ignore until it goes away. Unless a big slush fund like Iraq appears and then they will all jump on board, demanding non-competitive contracts like Halliburton did and waste a lot of tax payer dollars. -

Yeh, but given the options, if the shoe were on the other foot which would you choose?! There are a couple of options there if you do the math. -
With this crowd, it is always about tarnishing your opponents reputation, even if it is as a result of something self-inflicted. Bush still bad and Gore made another stupid statement. Of course this assuming it wasn't pieced together by some rightwing nut job to make him look bad. Forgot to check out the source, but I think it was the AP, so probably just Gore being stupid.

But we foiled 2002!

Problem with what the Bush admin is doing is not checking up on or spying on terrorist contacts in the U.S., but his administrations inability to differentiate between this kind of action and spying on political opponents or simply just following congressionally established procedures to ensure that these actions taken remain above board. I think if they had asked a question as to whether or not people believe or trust the Bush Administration to not abuse its power. You could probably get results that would not be favorable. -
As to the varicity of the article, I don't know, the corruptness is a different issue and I wonder if accepting campaign contributions from folks you agree with is corrupt or merely expedient. Corruptness comes in when you accept money for personal use or gain. The gain part can be debated, not sure we can ever get rid of it, given recent Supreme Ct. rulings regarding the speech and debate clause of the Constitution and linking it to campaign contributions.

We could alway go back to pre-Roe v. Wade and society can suffer 20,000 botched back alley abortions. Got to keep it safe, legal and rare. Morning after pill sounds like it might fit the bill. Still it is an experiment on women, science hasn't done anything to play with men...but I guess many of our fragile egos couldn't handle it.

Sounds mostly like pandering, but the Bush folks could do a better job of IDing friend or fo, as difficult as that might be and not that they are really trying. Border security is still a joke, but no excuse for Al's comments.

Your definetly a purveyor of consistency, agreed. Darn, why did a conscience have to show up on this group. Party pooper! P.S. Love those cartoon avatars, a good cartoon, no matter how gallows humor on either side is worthy of praise.

You got me, still a valiant effort...

Oh please any God fearing right winger did the same, in fact still does the same, under Clinton. Get off it. In fact I think you blamed Clinton for the sky being blue instead of Red. Communism meets the right wing on the other side!

I do blame him, because he has done nothing to address the situation and now we are exposed to the extremes of the business cycle. You can't change it, but you can sure take the edges off it by target short term interventions.

Don't disagree with anything you said except the legislative stuff. Constituent work has helped out a lot of folks, not necessarily legislative, but congressional casework by young underpaid staffers who often are told to help without regard to party affiliation do amazing things. Pulled a few myself, but basically it is all grunt work, not pretty, but the undeserved thank you letters I received were inspiring. Legislation is another thing and I agree whole heartedly with the above statement, with one more exception because friends and family being sent to war and being put in harms way without a good honest reason.

Based on your previous statement about control and monkeys, have you been among teenagers lately, I think it would be advisable to give all teenage girsl the morning after pill and have the boys be required to have reversible vasectomies. Because you are not going to stop, maybe make a slight dent with abstinence programs, of teenagers full over hormones from finding a way to have sex and unintended children. To think otherwise is nuts. From an economic perpective the abstinence program wastes tax dollars in according to the law of diminishing returns, it is not cost effective. Something rightwingers are always harping on when the consider programs.

Like many politicians that have been villified in the press or by either side, having had to take photos of them is different. I know ones on both side of the isle that are standup people in person with lots of patience for people who just seem to want a piece of them. Hillary gets mobbed by folks every time in public and is patient with autograph and photo seekers beyond reason. Hence the title "Dignity". Senator Pat Roberts, while I disagree more often him politically, I will always respect having worked with/for him on the House Ag Committee and seen how he treats people including his staffers as an example. I am a moderate and yes a Dem but doesn't mean I haven't seen unnamed Dems and Republicans who as human beings have no business being elected officials...they are jerks. P.S. John Beohner, the new GOP House majority leader is an interesting character, guiet spoken, very observant, never showed up staffers in public, has a temper but keeps it underraps and goes regularly to the tanning salon. Smokes like a stack. Strikes me as a Scotch siper.

I don't think Reid would even contest this article, so why is the Administration. Think it involved more than legal campaign contributions. Abramson is a crook and likely got some slime on both sides. Any lobbyist worth his weight in salt would. The question is did he illegal access and provide contributions illegally. Don't know, but the majority of Abramoff money went to the GOP, 70/30 from what I understand. The denying of photos in the White House and jeez, how did he get in there? That familiar with White House Secret Service, they just let him in? Scary.

Especially after we bomb Iran, Fox news this morning is highly advocating it. Better step up those emergency disaster regs. Iran and the rest of the world might just react.
