Lol - I've been checking the weather several times a day ever since Sat night. Right now my Dark Sky app says no rain until about 10pm, at which time there is a 51% chance of rain. I paid $1.99 for that app so it better be right!

Just hope for good weather.

No doubt about that -- a 3TD conference win is a 3TD conference win and deserves to be celebrated!

Turns out Indiana is pretty good and MSU is pretty bad. Biggest takeaway for me is that they need to get Samuel the ball early and often -- for the sake of offensive rhythm and also to keep the number of Barrett's carries down. Looks like the coaches recognize this and will focus on it. Urban mentioned after the game that IU ran the "bear," which I assume was a reference to the defense that Virginia Tech successfully ran at OSU in 2014. He strongly believes that the only way to beat the bear is through the deep ball, which just wasn't working yesterday (nor did it work in the first VT game). I expect to see a lot more of this as the season continues. Speaking of bear, Nick Bosa had his best game as a Buckeye. He appears to be healing nicely and will become more involved in the defense going forward. That is very good news. It's a rocky road through the B1G this year. Beat Wisconsin!

Really not sure what to make of either of them at this point. Indiana has grown into a relatively solid B1G team, but I expected them to take a big step backward this year with the QB Sudfeld gone. But apparently the defense has taken a big step forward and they still have that RB who ran for over 1000 yds last year, so I guess this is a ground-and-pound IU team now? I guess we'll see. As for MSU, that does not seem like a program that takes a week off against a team they expect to beat, so I'm taking it at face value that this is a down year for them. I'm sure they'll be up for the Buckeyes though.

Crazy to see Urban burning redshirts like that. Glad to see those kids get significant time but I'm sure some of them have mixed feelings about it. I believe that if the Buckeyes had made it a team goal to rush for 1000 yards today, they could have made it happen. Thanks for stopping by, Coach Ash!

I’m at peace with the idea that Meyer will not coach the Buckeyes forever. His arrival following Tressel’s departure was and remains a surreal transition – the chances of finding someone who could possibly be an improvement over the outgoing coach was extremely low. So in a sense we’re on found time right now, and that is never lost on me anytime I start to stress about the Buckeyes. The chances of Meyer staying in Columbus even if the Texas job opens up are helped by the fact that he’s from Ohio—and perhaps more importantly his wife is from Ohio—they are surrounded by friends and family, and by all accounts they are happy and comfortable in a way they never were down south. Taking at face value the reports about his lack of a work-family balance causing serious health issues in Florida, I can see a scenario where he says “no thanks” to upsetting what appears to be a perfect situation for him and his family in order to take more money in Texas. Plus, OSU is one of the schools that can probably go toe-to-toe with Texas if a bidding war breaks out. That said, Meyer has commented that he plans to stay put at least until after his kids are all out of the house. After that, who knows? This is truly a magical time to be a Buckeye fan, and I’m just trying to enjoy each game without worrying about the “what ifs” between now and whenever this era ends. Go Bucks.

There is a very real possibility that the following programs will make offers to Tom Herman within the next six to eight months: Texas USC LSU ND (??) That would be quite a set of options for the young guru. Which job is the best? I'd take Texas because of the combination of unlimited resources and proximity to talented recruits. Not many schools, if any, can match what Texas has to offer in that regard.

This report says the AD wanted Miles fired immediately to avoid the risk that the team might perform well enough to save the coach's job (again) between now and the end of the season. Not a great look for a guy gearing up to woo top-end coaches.

Making it through a bye week without incident (other than an unfortunate bike accident) is a win for this program. Beat Rutgers!

Watching him bounce it outside for a big gain brought back memories of Clarett.

Well that was fun. Great to see the young kids "come of age," as Urban said, on the road at one of the most difficult places to play in the country. Weber, Samuel, and Barrett coming out of the backfield are going to cause problems for everyone this year. And if teams sell out to stop the run there is Noah Brown (finally!) at wideout. So happy to see him to have a 4TD night and a catch for the ages after missing last year. The defense keeps getting better. D-line exceeded expectations last night. Losing Conley early was very concerning (apparently just a stinger) but then the depth at corner came up big. Raekwon holding up the "basic defense" sign at the end of the game, in reference to the trash talk we heard this week from OU's backup QB Austin Kendall, was the icing on the cake (can't wait for Kendall to come to the Shoe next year as the starter). What a start to the season! Toughest road schedule in recent memory coming up - kids better stay focused.

One more thing... we're out of coffee.

If the Bills lose tonight...

Same thing I do every year: sit and watch the games with a "Crying Jordan" face. -
Apparently Harbaugh addressed boogergate on the radio today and insisted that "no booger was eaten." Hilarious that this is part of the national conversation. To the JT discussion above, I don't have him as a real good pro prospect. But he appears to be perfect for this style of offense, which will never fully develop at the next level unless pro teams start running their QBs into the ground. The "weenie arm" comment from last year still looms large for him, I guess, even though he consistently gets the ball to the open man. As for Norman, I really don't know what to expect on Saturday. Hopefully it won't rain too badly because the Bucks seem to have a real hard time playing offense while wet.

Another Autumn Every team is oh-and-oh Let's Go Buffalo

I just saw on OZone that JT became OSU's all-time leader in pass efficiency on Saturday. His mark of 168.82 pushes Heisman Troy Smith's 157.1 to second. Pretty remarkable. I can't think of a better QB for this offense -- he can run and is great at getting the ball to the open receiver. Has Urban had a QB better at both than JT? The most enjoyable part for me has been when he gets on a roll of consecutive scoring drives like he did at MSU in 2014, Michigan and ND at the end of last year, and obviously BG this past week. When he gets in that zone nobody can keep up.

It was the first possession of the season! I'll give him a mulligan on that one.

Somewhere ICE is having an aneurysm
Willyville Guy replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in College Football
Last I heard Herman founded MENSA I love the guy and have been hoping that he would be next in line to take over at Ohio State after Urban leaves. Not sure the timing is going to work out in light of all the attention he's getting, though. I'd be psyched to see him coach the Bills, although I'm just not sure his mismatch-based offense will translate to the NFL where there are studs at every position. And ICE - I haven't seen that poster around here in 10-15 years! -
Leaving aside the obvious comments about the starters and stats in that ridiculous and historic 77-10 victory, a few comments: The BTN broadcast was incredible. Full coverage of the pregame, halftime, and postgame rituals. The announcers even kept quiet during Carmen Ohio. Really great. It's too bad ESPN and the networks are going to take all that away from us for the big games. Less is more when it comes to covering college football games at places like the shoe. How about McCall? Kid wasn't even on my radar -- I thought we'd see a lot more of Williams. Seems to me he's a special talent and should probably start taking touches away from Dontre Wilson. Burrow continues to impress. The Bucks are in deep trouble following Oklahoma's loss to Houston today. The Sooners are unlikely to lose two early-season games. How about Tom Herman's Cougars beating FSU and Oklahoma in consecutive games?! It's looking less and less likely that he will be available for Ohio State when Urban leaves. Texas is going to lock him up pretty soon. Great start to the season - depth at the skill positions looks insane.

Heh. I totally related to Nucci's response until I read this reply. Valid. Do I not need DTV/ST to see live games if I have the new Apple TV?

Gibson suspended for the season. Apparently he was harassing one of his tutors over Snapchat? I don't know. No matter how many stars you put in front of their names.... This situation is a little odd though, because Urban publicly disagrees with the decision. Urban has been tough on his players since arriving in Cbus -- benching and suspending players who break the rules. In 2013 he made the painful and costly decision to bench Marcus Hall for flipping off the Big House. Last year a bunch of starters (and future NFLers) sat out the primetime VT game for smoking pot. A couple of weeks ago Brionte Dunn was correctly kicked off the team based on accusations of violence against a woman even though the Bucks are thin at tailback. In the face of accusations that he's too soft on players in the wake of the Aaron Hernandez debacle at Florida, he has shown little tolerance for BS when it comes to the Buckeyes. So seeing him dispute the Gibson suspension makes me wonder what is really going on.
-
I'm interested in finding out the details of the violation, and bummed that Dunn never really found is footing within the program. This is a timely reminder that sometimes (oftentimes) highly touted high school recruits with lots of stars next to their names don't pan out.

Not a flattering assessment of Adolphus
Willyville Guy replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m surprised to see Washington’s technique and pad level described as “poor.” His d-line in college was uniformly praised for hands and leverage.
