  1. Yeah, a judge is going to hear that one. It's hard enough to get written contracts upheld in court let alone some verbal contract nonsense. So they said they wouldn't tag him? Then sign him. Can't sign him? Tag him and trade him. It's all very simple........and exactly what every other well managed NFL team would do.

Actually DIBS is 100% correct, and that probably WOULD hold up in court. Really all you need for a verbal contract is an offer, and acceptance. Then you have to prove it. Considering that Marv Levy has publicly noted that this was the case, then the proof part is easy. The offer was made, and Nate accepted it.

  2. I rather they sign only one or two really good players than last year's five to six average players. And by really good, I mean a player who fits the team's mold and improves us...not necessarily a star.

    Agreed.

It depends. If Nate Clements signs with the Skins, I bet the deal will be in the 8 to 10 range. Here is how Sal Maioriana viewed it:

"In the simplest possible terms, what this means is that the Bills are approximately $30 million under the NFL’s $109 million salary cap, and they will spend all of that $30 million to get to the limit. But that will be $109 million in cash spent this coming season including all bonus money that they shell out.

This approach is vastly different from large-market teams who spend salary cap money right to the limit using salaries and only prorated portions of bonus money, then go way over to pay the up front costs of bonuses because they have vastly deeper pools of revenue than Buffalo to do so."

Put it this way. 5 of the 10, HIGHEST paid salary cap teams made the playoffs last year. 2 of the 10, LOWEST paid salary cap teams made the playoffs last year.

8 of the 10, HIGHEST paid salary cap teams have made the playoffs in the past 2 years.

  3. Daq, I will ALWAYS be a Bills fan but I most likely will not show it by cutting them a $1200 check this season.

On a side note, it seems like I haven't read a post of yours in a while, are you in school or something?

Hey I completely agree with you my friend. I was just responding to the others on this board, who believe that money=being a real fan.

Side note: yes I am back in fashion with the 2nd semester, yet the real reason you probably have not seen me much is that my use was suspended for a month because I was annoying a mod on the Titans game thread. Don't go there. It really is not worth it.

  4. Not exactly. The Bills will try to spend all $109MM this season, or close to it. What they won't be doing is shelling out $30MM in bonuses to Free Agents and amortizing them over 10 years.

If the Front Office is smart with the draft and makes good personnel moves, we may be alright. They most move from a "rebuilding" mentality to a constant "reloading" mentality.

The timing of the press conference is kind of strange. I am sure the Marketing department is pissed since they are trying to sell luxury suites and season tix.

Mark my words. We will not being into the season with any less than 15 million in cap space. First of all, how can you amortize bonuses over 10 years, if the player has a 4 year contract? :worthy: They are basically saying we are going to count every dollar we spend, against the cap, even though the league does not count it against the cap. So when we sign a player with a 6 million dollar bonus, instead of counting it only 1 mill against the cap over the 6 years (as the league does), the team will count it the full 6 million. Do that with 5 players (as Chris Bown said), with each having a 6 year contract, the league will only count that as 5 million against the cap for this year (1 mill per player). Yet we will have spent 6 million per player, for 5 players is 30 million.

AKA: The league says we are 20 or so million under the cap after signing those players and we say we are AT the cap, because we are counting CASH instead of the amortized deal.

  5. One of the funnier parts of the press-conference:

"... at their final meeting, and I said 'fellas, our objective isn't to go to the super bowl. its to win the super bowl.' And uhm ... maybe those aren't very good words coming from a guy who has gone and hasnt ... uh ... hasnt had that result" (laughs)

  6. It have should read, "be in one of the toughest ..." But, I assume you mean why I think it will be tough. The Pats come off of a great season by having seemingly less talent than the year before, so I have a tough time thinking they will fall off profoundly. The Jets made the playoffs, so they should improve at least somewhat through the draft and free agency. So, going into the season we are looking at likely two teams with playoffs on the mind. The Bills, I hope, will improve and contend for a playoff spot. I think the Fins will improve from last year, Ricky and Daunte should, (the key word) bring them some skill at, well, skill positions. This means we are looking at least at three teams with legit playoff hopes, Bills, Pats, Jets. I just think with three teams at around the same level, I think the Bills are getting very close to NE and NYJ, this season could produce some tight games, and a tight race for the division crown. I think the lack of a runaway favorite in the East could make every game a real battle. My point: there may not be any "easy" games in the East next season. Hope I cleared it up.

Maybe it is just me, but for the one of the first times in YEARS, I have a pessimistic look on the AFC East. I would usually say "Pats will kick ..." etc. Yet Brady will be back next year, with basically the same porous WR's. The Patriots defense looks as if it will worsen, as Seau will be ANOTHER year older, and they will probably lose Samuel to Free Agency. I guess the good thing for them is that Maroney has a year under his belt. The Jets? Come on man. The Jets barely squeeked in the playoffs. We should have beaten them in the first game, and they should have lost a few other games down the schedule. Luck will sometimes swing to the other team, and I expect the Jets to feel that next year. The Fins, have no hope (IMO) for next year. Daunte? I HOPE Culpepper is their QB. We had a ton of fun with him last year, as did the rest of the league before he went on IR.

  7. Not better that the Jets, huh? I think any predictions on what the EAST will do is premature. We are going to be one of the toughest divisons next season, and offseason moves will show us how good the Fins and Jets will be. Remember, the Jets don't have two first round picks in a stocked draft class this year. Plus, Chad did not miss at least 4 games this past season, like he always does, so he should miss 8 games next season ...

Can you explain the bolded part?

  8. i'll take football "fill time" over more basketball "highlights" every time.

    Ditto.

I hate people saying that we should draft Leon Hall. The corners do not make the d-lineman better, it's the other way around. Leon Hall would be a major drop off from Nate Clements (at least in his first couple of years) So how would this make us any better?? I say take the best available D-Lineman since Levi Brown isn't worth the 12th pick and Joe Thomas will be long gone. My list would go like this:

    1. Alan Branch

    2. Jamal Anderson

    3. Gaines Adams

    4. Amakoye Obekye (no idea how to spell that)

It works both ways. Good corners make a porous D-line better, and a good D-line make a porous secondary better. You can't just mix and pick what you want to be true. If we let Nate Clements go, our secondary is going to take a HUGE blow. In fact I believe a good LB core can make a D-Line look better than they really are. Personally I would focus on Secondary, and the Linebacking core, and try to fill in the holes of the D-Line elsewhere.

  9. Or maybe you've been burned and just don't know it... :P

Road Runner is owned by Comcast? Also I read this from the article "from naive users who click on attachments" ... uhm, yeah, I don't do that unless its from someone I know and trust.

I think it's safe to say that most people who are running spyware (and the like) don't even realize that it's installed. It's not until they are so bogged down with the crap that they finally realize that there may be a problem. I don't know how many times I've run anti-spyware scans on "healthy" computers only to find a host of data-miners, adware, and occasionally key loggers.

I'd rather be safe( r ) than sorry...plus Firefox performs well for me and is extensible.

I also run spyware scans regularly. I think Windows Live One Care is great. It does all of the Virus, Spyware, and Tune-up scans automatically if you set it up to do so.

  10. IE isn't secure -- nobody's talking about the user interface, it's the fact that by going to a website, your entire omputer can be compromised. Heck, there was just something posted on TSW a couple of days ago that affected IE but no other browser. The problem is that IE is embedded into the OS instead of being layered on top of it. You're playing with fire if you use IE.

    CW

And while that may be true, I have been playing with "fire" (to borrow your quote) for years and have yet to be burned. Maybe im just safer when I surf the net than others??? I'm not sure.

  11. So I'm guessing Windows Vista is not all that great.

Everyone has their opinion, and you must take most things people say with a grain of salt. For example: it seems many posters on this board, do NOT like IE, and believe it is a horrible browser. I on the other hand, prefer IE, and have had very FEW problems with it ... if any.

  12. It's the freakin Pro Bowl, not a playoff game.

I do somewhat agree with Smokin, but I also agree with what you just said above. If it was a regular season, or playoff game then I would'nt have minded at all. Heck I would have even been impressed with the hit. But when its the Pro-Bowl or the pre-season I think you should take it a little less rough. Mainly due to injuries and what not.

  13. Jesus everything is a damn apology for Willis. At first, it was because JP couldn't throw the ball effectively and thus defenses were putting 8 in the box and thats really hard to run against. Then we make a line change and holy crap the offense starts opening up and putting up points, only Willis still puts up below average numbers, so obviously the line change only helped the passing game. My contention is this: if the lack of passing game and poor o-line play was the initial problem then it stands to reason that improved o-line play and a pretty good passing game should open up the field for the running game to do some real damage. However, in these two equations there is one constant and that is Willis putting up pedestrian numbers. At some point he has to take the blame for his lack of production. I'm not saying he doesn't run hard or care about the Bills, but I just don't think he is a good NFL RB. He isn't a home run threat, he has yet to average 4 ypc, he isn't a receiving threat, what does he bring to the table? Even if we had the worst o-line in football we'd see some flashes of brilliance and all i've seen is a whole lot of mediocrity unless its against the Jets. I think he lacks that one ability that makes some backs great and others just average and that is vision. On a great number of instances i saw willis hesitate instead of hitting a hole and I believe that is because if the hole is not in the exact spot it is supposed to be then Willis simply doesn't see it, and thus cannot improvise by cutting back and making a play. This debate is getting quite old, Willis puts up well below average numbers and somehow its everyone's fault, and people just don't see that maybe he's not as talented, maybe that's due to his injury when he was at the U, but whatever it is he's been all hype with little results.

I actually am not making any apologies for McGahee. I am simply not going to be the prototypical fan who wants to throwout every player they seem fit, for whatever reasons they see fit.

No, that's just the reason that Losman gets a "free pass".. he's likable. Willis is not. I, for one, am proud to have Losman as my favorite team's starting quarterback.. I cannot say the same for McGahee. While, I would love to see the Bills be competitive, go to the playoffs, and even win a Superbowl.. I also need to be "proud" of my team.. to like the players wearing the uniforms. While players such as T.O., Randy Moss, Rodney Harrison or even Deion Sanders (in his prime) would make the Bills a better team.. I would never want them in a Bills uni, becuase I couldn't/can't stand those players.. even if it meant a gauraunteed SB win. Period.

So I take it that you were utterly ashamed of Jim Kelly, once the stories were leaked that he was a "drunk" partyer during the Super Bowl years, including the nights before the Super Bowls?

    wrong person answered the question

daquixers claimed that he remembers people complaining about thurman in his prime. I'm interested in knowing how old he was when thurman was in his prime. If he was 10 and under, he doesn't remember stevestojan. Just pulling more junk out of his ass...like those willis apologies.

In fact I was young, yet I never claimed that I 'remembered' anything. I only said that people DID complain about Thurman Thomas. Now, how could someone who was young at the time know such a thing? Well maybe it has something to do with the fact that he grew up in a household infatuated with the Buffalo Bills and they remember (very clearly) people at the games, on the radio ... etc who did in fact complain about certain aspects of Thurman Thomas. Yet for some reason CollegeGuy had to assume, and when you ASS.U.ME ... well you get the picture. So what did we learn?

    1. Read a persons full post instead of just responding. (I never said I "remembered" anything)

    2. Don't assume.

and if he was much older?

If I was much older, my ability to research and see what people said at the time would be so much greater and therefore he would have no problem with my opinion. Its kinda funny isn't it?

  14. Losman gets a pass because, as far as I can remember, he hasn't: Proclaimed himself the best player in the NFL, at his position. Even though Ray Charles could tell him otherwise. He hasn't produced offspring faster than Shawn Kemp on viagra. Hasn't told the world he'd be happier if the Bills were in Toronto. Hasn't asked for a contract extention based on his "piss-poor" production thusfar in the NFL.

Gee, guess you're right.. how dare anyone get down on poor Willis.. someone take my "Get Willis the hell out of Buffalo" membership card. I guess I don't need it.

OK. Just so I have this straight. You are saying that if an athlete says he is the best (and is not), have multiple children, and say a few dumb things, they surely should be cut. Does that about sum your opinion up? Heck, I think most of the NFL athletes should be thrown out, under your determination of a players worth.

If McGahee were so good why would Jet fans have the same criticisms that many Bills fans have of the player? That being Willis has a poor YPC average and doesn't show up for teams not named the New York Jets. Maybe all this negativity towards him will make him want to give it his all in 2007, only time will tell. At least this season we'll ALL find out once and for all what kind of heart and skills this player has. If he's traded, I won't really care all that much because of how ineffective I saw him as our starting RB. I think Lynch, Hunt, Walker or Booker would be able to produce as good or better if one of them were drafted by the Bills.

Please don't compare McGahee with Thomas. Thurman always gave 100%, which is something that everyone could see Willis didn't always give in 2006.

We are actually taking the consideration of the NYJ fans as truth now? Earlier in the year we were critisizing their opinions. Oh how times change. Also, I take it you are personal friends of Thurman Thomas, and he clearly told you after each game that he assuredly gave his 100% ... right?

Hopefully, we can run our second straight 1200-yard back out of town. WE HAVE THE BEST FANS IN THE LEAGUE!!!

We don't sell out four games, we take Willis' "If the NFL plays a game in Toronto, it should be the Buffalo Bills" quote to Penthouse (!!!) magazine as proof that Willis wants the team to move. Hey, the Leafs sell out even when they're bad...Maybe Toronto would be a better option...

    Thats about right.

Losman produced a top 12 QB season. Willis produced a sub 4.0 YPC. As I stated before, once the o-line was moved around the entire offense picked up, except for one player. Willis McGahee. His production declined quite a bit. I posted the stats in another thread and I'll do it again you want me to. WM is not a dominant back and the o-line excuse is f'ing tired, especially when the passing game came to life. Everyone before was saying WM wasn't dominating because the Bills had no passing game, I say that it was amazing what JP and the offense accomplished with a sub par half back and little ability to run the football. I guess Willis is worth those 2 games per season where he runs like a top 10 back.

Do I really have to explain that just because one facet of offense does better due to a switch, does not necessarily mean that they ENTIRE offense will do better (including RB, Willis McGahee)?
