I'm curious to know if the entire series was written out in advance. Everything was just perfectly detailed and little to no fluff or throw away moments.  Almost as if the finale was written first and they backfilled to the beginning

There a some great interviews and podcasts devoted to BCS. Both Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould stated they wrote as they went.  Kinda played to what was going well.  Very collaborative with them and their writing team.  They spent a lot of time tying what seemed like throw away lines to later events.  Both BCS and BB.  I’m sure they had a blueprint, but changed as they went.  Didn’t know that  Kim wasn’t going to be a huge character.  Same as Jesse who was supposed to be gone early season 1 of BB.

The one thing Gilligan said is they mostly knew they’d have Saul in jail at the end, not dead. He also wanted to go out early, and not late.

The podcast I listened to yesterday re: the last episode is Better Call Saul Insider Podcast.  Hosted my BB and BCS editors Chris McCaleb and Kelley Dixon.  Last episode included a huge dose of Bob O.  Good stuff.  Liked it and ended up listening to the very first episode.  Neat tidbits in both.

  2. I was invited, along with 200 of my coworkers, to a breakfast this morning with Brandon Beane and Ron Raccuia.  Where I work is a partner with the Bills.

Per Raccuia, he reiterated we are very close to seeing renditions.  Next few weeks.  Stadium is the only recently built to be football only, not multi-use, ie: world cups, Super Bowls, etc.  Very important that fans have the best experience.  62K or so fans.  Current stadium is 69k, not 80k.

As a season tix holder, I wondered how tix will be dispersed.  I asked how it will work.  It will be by seniority, in the section that matches the old stadiums section.  My concern is people in the lower bowl will opt to move to cheaper PSL seats, perhaps upper deck where I sit.  He assured that people do move but usually within a small footprint near their current seats.  Reiterated that the Pegulas understand the market and PSL prices won’t be obnoxious.  Also alluded to slightly cheaper tix prices, but overall cost evening out with PSL prices.  He was vague, so not sure what that really means.

He also said red helmets are coming once the NFL allows.  Currently, NFL only allows red helmets with standing buffalo.  They are not a fan of that, especially with red, on red, on red with color rush.  And fun fact, Josh pulled the red helmet on his own.  Wasn’t club sanctioned! 😂

Edit: said it should be open in May 2026.  Have a bunch of concerts and other things planned.

Throughout the episodes, she began to grow a little suspicious.  At one point Gene excused him and Jeff from the kitchen to speak in private.  She rolled by the garage once when they were looking at stolen goods and they pretended to work on a car, and she observed the 3 schmoes suspiciously meeting in the garage at night.

So Gene called her to get Jeff out of police custody.  He seemed very educated on the legal system.  At one point he slipped, saying bondsmen arent needed in Omaha, and it isnt like Albuquerque which perhaps gave her a clue that he could be from there.

Makes it seem a little more plausible, but wish it was a bit more played out on how he was caught.

Ultimately, it was about him getting caught but more about him finally doing the right thing.

  4. Wow.  I came to the realization that Better Call Saul was not about Jimmy McGills fall into the world of Saul Goodman, but about Kim.  It was about Kim’s arc.

What an amazing episode.  It wrapped up not only Better Call Saul, but Breaking Bad also.  This episode was a cumulation of 2 amazing series.

I love how we got a good dose of Saul getting a reduced sentence, and got a Jimmy eventually doing  the right thing.

The cigarette scene was amazing, and an incredible tear jerker.

Hands down, the best series finale ever.

    Both fails.

Collen Wolfe and Michael Robinson was such an easy decision.  They failed and might not recover

They used to have chemistry, as if they were all good friend which I believe they were.  Nate Burleson was the loss that started the slide.  Michael Robinson was a great replacement, but too bad he didn’t stick with the new cast.

Yeah, Kay was easy on the eyes, very easy.  She did start to get stiff at the end, was difficult to watch.

The new cast is terrible.  Schrager was always solid, and still is.  Brandt was the goof of the team, and is now trying way too hard to bail out a sinking ship.  Erdahl could be good, but is out of her element.  McCourty is absolutely unwatchable.

GMFB was must see TV, especially on Monday’s during the season.  Can’t watch it now.  Too bad because they were absolutely fantastic, breath of fresh air in a talking-head industry.

Call it a flaw or a superpower, but I can easily abandon a book, movie or TV show. There could be 10 minutes left in a movie, 10 pages in a book or four seasons into a show, if I think it's lost it's mojo, I won't hesitate to stop.

On the other hand, BB and BCS had my full attention. They created a show where almost every scene had meaning, it could be a callback dozens of episodes down the line, or signal a significant plot point. There was no wasted dialogue and every character had a meaningful part. Even HOW a scene was filmed could speak volumes. Even verbal communication and Easter eggs could tap into your unconsciousness that you needed to  pay attention.

BB was the perfect (chef's kiss) story arc, and while I missed the show, I wouldn't have change a thing (and yes, I even liked the fly episode, it fit the absurdity of the show). On the other hand, I will really miss Better Call Saul and wish it would keep going. I think it could continue on a few more seasons because I have great confidence the show runners would all get it right and never have me say, "So, when does this wrap up?"

Let's hope there are a few more of their caliber in the works.

BB was amazing, but this last season of Saul has been incredibly written.  Fantastic how they are wrapping it all up.  The running around the snowy field practicing for the robbery was absurd, but somehow fit.  My only real complaint is how Carol Burnett used Ask Jeeves to look up “Albuquerque conman “ and found Saul.

I really don’t believe there was any other way to wrap up this story.

It is an absolutely stellar show and I do hope they somehow continue.  Can’t see it with the age of the actors.  But I can only hope.  I feel they left Fring’s Chile storyline open, not sure they go down that road.

  7. Watching the 2nd half of this seasons run up to the finale tonight.  They are showing them on a marathon on AMC.

What Kim wanted was for Jimmy to share in her despair and acknowledge what they did was wrong.  He wouldn’t do that.  I feel that’s what drove them apart when she said we are bad together.  Meaning she doesn’t trust him to stop being who he is.

She wanted him to be nice on the phone.  She needed him to be as torn apart about their actions as she was.  Again, he couldn’t do it.

  8. What an episode.

Both Odenkirk and Burnett really had an amazing scene.  His face was very similar to the one Walt would make when angry.

I’ve tried to guess what’s next, and can’t here.  I feel it doesn’t end well for Saul, be it incarceration or death.  I want a happy ending for Kim, but that is all but impossible.  I had thought they’d end up together as Gene and Kim, no way that is possible.

I wonder if we will see either Mike or Gus again.  Most likely not.

I will be glued to my seat for sure.  Kinda hope it’s commercial free.

    Thanks.

Amazing thing is how sudden it ended up on the junk list.  Stuff I don’t look at continues to my inbox (even after unsubscribing), yet Bills and a few others I always interacted with became junk.  And the Bills emails were buried outside of my phone junk box.

I’m certainly not technically illiterate. Was still a PITA.

    Annoying.

  10. Thanks everyone.  The email was not in my junk folder but the junks junk folder.  I have no clue how it was flagged so badly.

Had to log into my providers outlook account and do a deep dive to find.  The Bills email “noreply@e.buffalobills.com” surely  will get flagged.

Simple enough to flag junk as “not junk”.  This one was rough to find.

    Only club seat holders.

Contact your rep. Also check your spam folders. Both offers came in the emails last week. But the Fee Madden download had to be responded to quickly so you missed that.

    1. NFL+: yes. received my link last week, and it was easy to sign up free (follow the link in the email they send)

    2. Madden: hopefully you signed up for the download already, I think it was due by Aug 5th.

    3. Playoff tix: quick reminder that ,"pay as you go" for playoff home games, is due by Sept 2nd.  Separate email from ticket office last week, requiring opt in

I contacted my rep la few weeks ago, said it should be out shortly.  Have looked every day.  Was it a NFL email or something else?

Watching how we used him, I can’t imagine he’s not a guy who gets legit playing time this year.

Inside/Outside versatility, along with the ability to be used in that Woods/Kupp lead blocker role in the run game.

He looks like WR4 to me, with Crowder (if he makes the team) being slot depth / McKenzie insurance.

I keep forgetting about Austin.  Not sure where he fits.

  13. If the Colts returner fields that kick at the 14, our guys were at about the 45.  He would have gotten a decent return on it.  Once other teams see film, they’ll put their return guy in better position to field it.  Although, no way on a punt that long the return team could set up their blocks.

It seemed effortless to get the air distance he did.  I wonder if it’s possible for him to kick it even further?

Like this kid over Haack because of a stronger leg and and more importantly, quicker to get the ball off his foot.  I’d like to see how he does with shorter and out of bounds kicks.  I don’t see that being the kick that seals his place in the team.  The day he was drafted did that.  They just needed to make sure he wasn’t a disaster and could hold.  Competition over.

Edit:  Rewatching, I love the roar of the crowd at the 40 when they realize the ball is going the distance.  We sit upper deck, and you expect the ball at a certain part of the arc to descend, that’s when this punt just took off!  It was insane to watch!

I’d personally be shocked if Kumerow makes it over Crowder. Maybe it’s just my personal bias. I hate keeping a guy just for his special teams play when he brings absolutely nothing else. Kumerow as a receiver is below average at best. Crowder had more yards last season than Kumerow in his entire career.

The way they value ST’s on the Bills gives the nod to Jake.  I do believe he’s a better receiver than people give him credit for.

I can definitely see it happening.

Diggs, Davis, Crowder, Shakir, Mackenzie, Hodgins

All except Crowder.  Don’t see him making the team.  Shakir played too well and McKenzie is the starting slot.

Kumerow makes the team because of ST play.  He has shown the ability to be a decent 4th/5th WR.

If you have a problem with this, you have a problem with most Elite CBs in the NFL throughout history

No problem, just discussing what I saw. He will be good. Like a lot if rookies, he has some stuff to work on.

What does worry me is an offense like the Rams will take advantage any defensive weakness they see.  If he is a starter day one, I’m sure he will get safety help or whatever they need to do.  This is a top defense so we should be fine.

I loved how quick he is, seemed effortless to get in position and did a good job of being with the receiver.

  17. It was the perfect spot for him to crush it.  Not a ton of hang time for how many yards it traveled from foot to hitting the carpet.  Not a tall punt, but distance wise amazing!  Effective for sure!

I loved it and lept outta my seat.  Before we anoint him the 2nd coming of Morman, let’s see how he does with shorter punts.  Punts that need to be coffin corner or require hang time.

  18. Elam played well today.  But, speed saved him a few times.

He was on the receivers hip a few times, but was out of position also.  Out of position being not playing the receiver or ball correctly.  He made up for those mistakes with speed and was able to minimize his exposure.

We will see how much he’s pushed by the opposing QB once it’s real games. I fear he could get exposed right now by a really good QB/WR.  Mostly if he’s the number 1 guy.  The dude has mucho talent for sure, just needs to be aware of the situation.
