I just got my passport renewal approved.  was concerned as I'm a registered D and not ashamed of it.  they're looking at social media posts for foreign higher education visas. But was any R ever concerned in the same way?  I think not.  Not for any good reason.  When a fifth gen American is worried about the guarantee of his citizenship, there's a problem.  No obvious litmus test for citizenry now, but it's not far off.

I think the problem is an untreated anxiety disorder, but keep fighting the good fight. Glad you made it through.

Hey, this is just what’s in the news and this seems to be the place to post it to let people be aware of it and stir the pot a bit. Thats all quite normal for Trumpers to do here. People will believe what they want. When the big bad wolf leaves the farm, the chickens start to squawk, so it wouldn’t be unusual for this report to come out now. It’s not the first time that Musk has reported to be a user of ketamine. Trump himself publicly speculated recently, without evidence, that the cocaine found in the White House during Biden’s term belonged to sleepy Joe or his son. Trumps FBI is now reopening the investigation into that event. Trump makes suggestive allegations, without evidence, about his targets all the time. It’s how he plays politics. So what’s fair game and what isn’t?

Politics is indeed a dirty business, I’ve said that many times myself, and used the “fair game” analogy.  I would not expect nor assume Trump is pure of heart ant more than I thought Biden was.

If your contention is that the NYT operates in a political fashion with a desire to influence the outcome of political races, I concur.  I was interested more in your commentary, but it seems we are on the same page.

So Trump chooses an arrogant ass who is a drug addict to run doge. Only the best for Trump. No wonder he was acting like a psycho with his act. Now he is a billionaire with a bad bladder wearing a diaper. Maybe MAGA women will like that.

Andy, you seem like a good guy and you’re a good poster.  This type of story should be in the National Enquirer, not a paper once associated with quality journalism. Here’s a quick recap of the rumor being shared:

    • “Elon Musk…was using drugs…far more intensely…according to people.”

I know that some people believe anything (unless it’s about a president in cognitive free fall, happening right before their eyes), but which people, Andy?  Are they men or women, political friends or political foes, the waiter at his favorite restaurant or the front desk guy as Planet Fitness?

Who do you think it was, and would you vouch for them as honest brokers?

    • “Mr. Musk’s drug consumption went well beyond occasional use.”

With this statement, the Times changes the narrative that “some people say” and flat out declares that Musk is a drug user and states definitively he’s a regular drug user. No citation, no sources, no nothing.

The next part…geesh, man, have they no standards at all at the NYT?  There’s so much waffling between allegations and declarations of fact it’s unbelievable.  My favorite is the insulation that the reporter’s sourcing is speaking to unknown people who saw pictures of a box?  Seriously Andy, you buy all this stuff?

    • “It’s unclear…whether Mr. Musk…was taking drugs..at the White House.
But he has exhibited erratic behavior…insulting…gesturing like a Nazi…and garbling answer”.

Geesh Andy, if these are the standards, Joe Biden is likely the head of the Sinaloa cartel!  And while I can’t say for sure that 4th or Homey gesture like Nazis, but they sure as heck offer insults and on occasion most definitely garble answers.

You don’t have to believe everything said or done by intrepid Times journalists, it’s ok asking even a precious few questions.  It’s Tabloid journalism and not really all that great even by that standard.

So like trump you put anyone who doesn't agree with you in prison, or concentration camps in Libya? Sounds like another time in history.

Again, though, the Prez and admin who tried to put the opposition in prison was Biden/Harris.  That ship sailed, sir, but thankfully enough Americans with common sense course corrected.

An enigma wrapped in a riddle.  The virus shut down the world, China refused to cooperate…and absent a few congressional hearings, that’s pretty much it.

With respect to your comment, I remember all the hysteria from the right in response to Obama using executive orders to implement his policy. Now that Trump is doing the same, to an even greater degree, the right is happy. The odd thing is that Republicans control everything, yet Trump still feels he has to resort to EOs rather than working through congress. Which suggests to me that republicans in congress want to distance themselves from his policies.

The founding fathers would never support EOs to implement policy. In the early history of our nation, they were rarely used. Conceptually, the President should be working through congress to implement policy. EOs should be the exception, not the norm, yet somewhere along the line congress decided Presidents can do whatever they want through use of that process. I guess I agree with your concept that there is the ideal of how government should work vs how it does work. Here is an interesting link showing how EOs have been used across America’s history.

Also…I cast my lot with Biden because I thought he would hurt me less than Trump.  I tend to like stability and slow change and felt Trump was too unpredictable. He has proven me right.

    Great reply, thank you.

Interestingly, I like stability and reasonable change, but just using the collective approach to managing illegal immigration as one glaring example, that can lead to an absolute clusterf&ck.

No, I say why haven't any of the conspiracy pushers investigated?  "Done their own research"?  You know, like journalists do?  Who do you think has a higher net worth?  Catturd or David Brooks?

You're flipping your wig, Fergs.  All this conspiracy mumbo jumbo has got you in a tizzy.  I don't know Catturd or David Brooks, but I guess my question would be net worth aside, how did they do on the other big stories of our time?  Biden's cognitive implosion 2020-2024?  I'd bet that one was a lot closer to the target than the other.

On the bright side, it's refreshing to see you expecting more from you know, journalists.  Welcome to the club.

No.  You misinterpreted or I presented my argument wrong.  I completely agreed with everything you posted.  I'm well aware of the large contrast between how are government works currently and how the founding fathers hoped it would work.  I'm not going to resort to political apathy though.  I'll still go out and vote for whoever I think will make me and my family the most money.  Usually that means voting Republican.  If Trump continues his tariff crusade and Republican representatives support it then I'll vote straight down the line Democrat until they get the message.

Frig.  I'm usually sharp as a tack and not afraid to say it. My bad there.

I cannot imagine voting dem in the future, but completely agree and vote for the party that hurts me less.  It's hard for me imagine now, but this was my thought process Trump v Hillary:

    • Everyone knew Trump, and we can move past his one-time darling status with political figures in the dem party.  The simple fact was that my wife and I used to watch The Apprentice with my oldest son (he was quite young), understanding the reality TV aspect and fictionalized portions of the show.  It was just about enjoying the show,  but we did talk a lot about situational awareness, handling difficult situations, work place politics etc.
    • When the run up to choosing nominees was ongoing, I was nauseous thinking about Jeb Bush, or another Clinton in the WH, and not really thinking Trump at all.  I called one of my liberal buddies and said..."You know, I might just vote for Biden if he throws his hat in the ring...".
    • I recall where I was when Trump rode the elevator down and announced and thought "Holy Cr8p, what on earth is happening here?".

To look back and think I thought THAT was crazy when looking at what's happened since...wow.

Please inform me of my subliminal message.

Well, you started by suggesting I was right, then later on talked about true republicans being shunned and cast your opinion as an "idiotic assumption", which seemed at odds with the notion that I was right.  It was meant to be a light-hearted quip and appears I have missed the mark.

Since I've come this far, I guess I should make sure I clarify my comments from the post.  There was a time I felt as you did, and that was right was right and wrong was wrong.  I truly meant the part of your perspective being noble.  It would be awesome if that's the way government works.  You may absolutely be correct that holding the line, staying above the fray and doing 100% the right thing is right regardless of the outcome.  Perhaps if the curren admin did, any and all future admins would follow suit.  I simply don't feel that's realistic anymore, and that government(s) do not operate like that regardless of who is in charge.  That's our reality, and I just don't see the point in pretending it is not.

    That was my only point.

  10. 39 minutes ago, Doc Brown said:

I could try to deflect but you're right.  We've gotten to the point where we've become reliant on the courts to strike down unconstitutional executive orders so why should we expect either side to not test the boundaries.   @Big Blitz post from above proves your point where he unknowingly pushing for more power to the executive branch because it means a victory for his side.

It was my idiotic assumption that maybe the party that traditionally views the role that the federal government should be limited (Republican party).  That goes for little intervention in the free market, a strong national defense, a strong checks and balance system, the promotion of federalism, and protecting the basic liberties and rights of all legal citizens of this country.  I guess the true conservatives have been hijacked by a party where if you speak out against executive overreach when a Republican is in office you're shunned.  It really shouldn't be that way but here we are.

I sense a subliminal message is in play here. Your words say one thing, but I just have this feeling...🤔

It's not an idiotic assumption on your part, and I certainly would not shun you for your noble position.  However, I don't attach much emotion to this sort of things anymore.  Beyond that, if government operates the way it operates repeatedly,  the standard becomes what it becomes.  It has nothing to do with me supporting it, or raging against it, it's just how it works.

I'm simply saying your belief in how government works is in direct contrast to the way it actually works.

You’d think these crackshot maga investigative journalists would have told y’all which insurrectionists were facing jail before Jan 6. At least for Ray Epps. But out of that huge short bus crowd there were probably at least the 26 who apparently acted as moles. But that might not make for a good conspiracy story.

It's 2025 and we only recently received all the data associated with an assassination that took place in 1963.  It was several years before concrete evidence was produced to show that the Obama admin and CIA were fully briefed that the Clinton campaign was up to no good with Christopher Steele, a fact Obama could have shared at the very beginning of the hubub about Russia meddling in the elections.  Joe Biden had classified documents in his possession for what seems like decades, and was sharing intel with an individual without clearance and we only found out after Trump's house was raided.

I have no idea who did what, who got arrested or who didn't.  You don't either.  I am absolutely willing to see how it all plays out with transparency. You should want the same thing.

We'll see.  this is not new

    from Mediaite

Notably, Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz released a reportlast month in which he stated that his team “found no evidence in the materials we reviewed or the testimony we received showing or suggesting that the FBI had undercover employees in the various protest crowds, or at the Capitol, on January 6.”

Horowitz found that 26 Confidential Human Sources — or defendants who engage “in the prohibited activity of associating with persons engaged in criminal activity for the purpose of furnishing information to or acting as an agent for a law enforcement or intelligence agency” — were present in D.C. on January 6, but that none “were authorized to enter the Capitol or a restricted area, or to otherwise break the law on January 6.”

in other news, patel is 6'2' 220lbs

    https://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/us-news/kash-patel-height-memes-viral-after-fox-interview-netizens-ask-how-tall-is-fbi-chief-101748471449434.html

The newsworthy part is the FBI director/assistant director stating the facts will “surprise and shock everyone”.

With regard to the confidential human sources, the only question I would have is if they violated laws, what charges were pursued?  I don’t know that “prohibited activities” equates to illegal activity, but it certainly sounds like it’s possible.

I’m sure you would agree is all good news if the report is truly forthcoming.   Transparency is a good thing.

Trump's like some woman who can't decide what dress to squeeze her fat body into before a dinner date.  One thing, then the next, then some pouting, then some gratification...of course the investors picked up on it.  His biggest issue is that he's used to doing business with other selfish, greedy whooores just like himself, not with people who actually have standards and morals.  If he was making deals with the people he usually does, then all this would be figured out and they'd be golfing and banging hookers by now because they get antsy and need to wrap it up.   Unfortunately for Donald, the MAGAS, and the United States, he's dealing with very serious people who have very specific "codes" by which they live and are highly disciplined.  He has shown his hand and it is small, orange and fragile.

It's unfortunate for this country because if you strip away the layer of glitzy, Vegas fat there are some good ideas there but he doesn't have the faculty to engage the world and make it happen for America.

You're missing the point.  If you despise what Obama and Biden did under executive orders thinking they shouldn't have that much power then you are an absolute hypocrite if you approve of what Trump is doing with tariffs.  Congress has power of the purse.  Period.  Article 1, Section 9, Clause 7 of the constitution.

The problem with this line of thinking is that we can point to these examples (Obama and Biden) which reveal how government actually works in practice.  How do we know this?  Well, see Obama and Biden.  Step back a bit further and we can look at the actions of the DOJ and special counsel and know that the government has allowable tolerance on the handling of national security (HRC) and holding, dissemination of classified material (Biden), and dealing with hostile foreign nationals attempting to derail free and fair elections (Clinton-Steele).  We know that transparency and light in the darkness is the ideal, but we also know that the ideal is not the standard.

If we look at your post, @Andy1 gives you a thumbs up for your post on hypocrisy, but we’re left to wonder why he would cast his lot with a Biden presidency when he was a critical advocate and co-conspirator in Obama’s actions?

I think it’s because we recognize that government actually operates in ways contrary to the way it should.  That’s the norm. That’s how it’s done.  That’s the standard.
