Obviously I can’t really speculate on the press that covers other teams, but if Buffalo is one of the best, then there must be an awful lot of terrible ones

Wow. Some folks seriously underestimate the breadth and depth of media coverage of the Bills. There are not only many full or nearly full-time reporters/analysts, but most are very good in their field. I'd imagine the Bills content creation is unmatched.

  2. I have flown out after a 1:00PM game several times. He should have no problem. I think the biggest problem folks have is the first few miles. The key is using a parking lot to get out fairly quickly, even if it means parking a little further and even taking a more circuitous route. I've had a lot of luck along California Road. Also, quickly leaving the stadium can save a ton of time, especially after a win when folks tend to linger.

  3. I've been brewing for a few years and have been researching my own brewery for several years.

    A few things have changed:

BOATLOADS OF HELPFUL INFORMATION: The internet is chockful of great beer-making advice, from simple extract brewing to very complex methods.

Recipes: There are several great recipe sites that provide very detailed ingredients and steps. I highly recommend "Brewfather," which, for a few bucks, it includes printable recipes to order ingredients, "brew along" for step-by-step instructions, timers, and a few "add-ons" to keep track of your progress.  There are dozens of free sites as well.

Technology: Tech is a huge improvement. Most brewers have moved away from the brew kettle and glass carboys to easier-to-use (and safer) plastic fermenters, and many of the brew systems have become much more affordable and easy to use. IMO, it's worth the some investment into good tools that make brewery much more enjoyable.  Some recommendations: electric brew systems, conical fermentors, web and app-based trackers for temperature and fermentation, etc.

At first, the tech can seem overwhelming, but the more you brew, the more you'll say, "Ah, that would make this so much easier."

Youtube and other sites: There are dozens of well-versed brewers who can provide very helpful tips, tricks, and step-by-step guides. Try a few and find the brewers that you like.  For new brewers, discovering WHY something is important will ignite many "aha" moments.  (See: oxidation, one of the most important and easy-to-screw-up lessons).

Start simple: My advice for those getting back into brewing and teaching new brewers, start with easier recipes and ferminations.  Use Single Malt and Single Hop (SMASH) recipes ales that have no dry hop additions and two-week fermentation. If a recipe does not fully explain why you need to do something, look it up. Once a new brewer understands the "why" they will faster graduate to more complex beers.

If lucky enough to have one nearby, go to homebrew shop for all your needs, and sign-up for a brew-making class. No matter how many times I brew I always learn something. For on-line materials/equipment, I like MoreBeer.

  4. I think Kincaid's pass-catching stats may not be a great indicator of his impact this year.  Snaps may be his most important stat.

Other than Diggs, it's been a long time since the Bills had a second receiver who might be a threat anywhere on the field, which could put pressure on the secondary and force them to hesitate.  The biggest beneficiaries of Kincaid's presence may be Diggs, Davis, and possibly Knox.

If Kincaid averages 30+ snaps, then the schemes might be working. The Bills' offense might be cooking if it's more than 40-45.

    The Bills have questions

    - at RT - I'm "hopeful" Brown will be "decent" but its no sure thing. - DONE - SIGNED BRANDON SHELL - GOOD DEPTH

    - at LG - will Torrence be an upgrade *this* season?

    - at RG - McGovern looks like a sure upgrade but we'll see.

    - at MLB - huge unknown

    - at CB2 - will Elam take a significant step?

    - at WR2, Gabe needs to be much better this year.

    - at RB in general (plus blocking from OL)

    - at DE, who will fill #40's shoes for a few weeks? - DONE - SIGNED LEONARD FLOYD - GREAT DEPTH

    - at DL, Ford should be a big help, but need career years from Ed and Settle

The Dolphins traded DeVante Parker and a 5th last year to the Pats for their 3rd rounder.

Gabe Davis is 24. DeVante Parker was 29 at the time of trade.

Gabe Davis is set to make $2.9M this year. Devante Parker was set to make $12 Million at the time of trade.

Gabe Davis put up 836 yards last year. Devante Parker did that once in his 5 years with the Dolphins.

You don't think Davis would fetch a 3rd?

Nope. Parker's cap hit to the Patriots was $6M/yr for two years - NOT $12M/yr.  That's a very cap-friendly deal for a decent, if unspectacular, receiver.

Let's put aside whether the Pats gave up WAY too much for Parker, and speculate whether the Bills could try to make the same exact deal. Why would any team give up a 3rd for a one-year contract and the possibility not sign Davis after the season?

Moreover, why get rid of Davis for what is essentially moving up from the 5th to the 3rd? Yes, he would have a diminished role, and the Bills might not be able to sign him for 2024 and beyond, but he would STILL be much more valuable for the Bills THIS season than any reasonable return on a trade.

    Pros:

    - Davis could be a very good #3 (if not one of the best in the league)

    - Davis floor likely has a much higher floor than any other receiver on the roster.

    - Davis could easily step into #2 if Diggs or Hopkins cannot play.

    Cons:

    - May not be able to resign Davis after the season

Some will be from the "Premium" ticket sales last week. Others, I don't know. Especially the seats high in the stands. Possibly London games season ticket holders putting them on before they renew. If that's still a thing that is.

Thanks. I would have assumed reselling the premium tickets (I couldn't get two together), but the "regular" tickets I've seen on sale seem a bit sketchy.

Anybody in the position where they just want to have tickets in hand quickly and don't mind paying very over the odds there are plenty on StubHub

Could well work out that paying an extortionate amount for tickets might offset increased cost of travel if you book that later?

How are these tickets available? Who's are they?

I posted this in another thread with a longer explanation… but if Hopkins signs, there is absolutely no need for Gabe and we can get a premium pick for him NOW.

We will run heavy 2TE sets this year, correct? If so, Hopkins and Diggs go on the outside, with Harty and Shakir competing in the slot (and Kincaid). That leaves Shorter and Sherfield as deep ball specialists… kinda like Gabe, but they also are great at Special Teams. You don’t keep 7WR in a 2TE system when you can get a premium asset for one who will see only a few snaps per game.

What do you think the Bills will get for a #2/#3 receiver on the last year of a rookie contract?  4th or 5th rounder? That's hardly worth it. What benefit would the Bills get out of a trade when they could have a receiver who did VERY well as a #3 and could easily slip into #2 if Diggs or Hopkins?  Davis is a proven #3, while the others are not.

  10. #6 seems about right.

What a great idea for a thread, Boyst.

I'm looking forward to reading what people have to say.

For me, I've been a coming here since day one, and was a member of whatever website preceded TBD.

Can someone remind me about the the message board before this one?  Was it on a local newspaper site? I only remember that it was early internet days, and I was psyched to be able to get up to date info and talk to fellow Bills fans, while living in Broncos territory.  Before that, I had to rely on the SHOUT! newspaper to arrive each week.)

Anyway, I signed up in the late 90's.

Back then, I was newly married and living in Colorado.  (Born and raised in Rochester and moved to CO in 1990)

    Since then...

    • Son born
    • Moved family to Washington State
    • Daughter born
    • Moved family to New Zealand.

It's been over 17 years since we moved to NZ and both of the kids have now grown and moved out.  (Daughter in Uni.)

The wife and I are loving this latest stage of our lives, which we refer to as "Empty Nestin' ".

When I think back to my Colorado days, it feels like it was another life ago.  So much has happened since then... births, deaths and other major life events, including the challenges of being an immigrant to a new land.

Throughout all of the years and all of the events, there have been only a couple constants.  One, thankfully being Mrs Bad Things... another being TBD.

I honestly have no idea why/how this place can hold such a sway over me.  (Especially during some of the really bad drought years.)  Just about every damn day, I have to at least log in to see what's going on over here.

That said, thank you SDS and all of the moderators for everything you've done through the decades.

You've help me waste countless "productive" hours of my life.   (Oh, to think of what I could've become, if TBD never came into my life...)

    Let's go Buffalo!!!

Nice post. May I ask why you moved to NZ and if you would recommend it.

  12. I'm most concerned about:

Right Tackle - Spencer Brown has the potential to improve. But if not, or he gets hurt, I have very little faith (zero?) in Quessenbery.

Linebacker - We all know there's a steep drop after Milano, so if he's hurt, there's little confidence in the rest of the corps.

Defensive End - Not a lot of confidence Epenesa or Basham will get much better.

  13. "It's a REALLY good question. This team restructures Allen, and does what with it, exactly? Finds a cheap guard? Brings back AJ Klein?"

It's NOT a good question. It's very ignorant.
    - The question/statement implies that Allen restructuring somehow negatively affects his contract. (Hint: it does not)

    - Restructuring NEVER hurts the best players. Never, ever, never.

    - This also implies that the Bills did not deliver on something Allen wanted. If so, what exactly?

    - The media dude is offers zero proof that Allen expected anything in particular that was not delivered. You took it hook line and sinker.

    - Tell us where the Bills spent poorly? Poyer? Milano? Diggs? White? Knox? Morse? Von Miller? Which one don't you like?
