  1. You can't not take a QB because you're still hurting from past mistakes, but you also can't just take the best QB available 3rd overall, when he is a marginal first round talent. No question about it, if Blaine Gabbert is holding up a Bills jersey in front of the Buffalo media, it will generate a lot more buzz and excitement than Marcell Dareus, and we can certainly use that around here, but 2 years from now if he doesn't work out (which I don't think he will) we'll not only still need a QB, but we'll also probably still be struggling to stop the run.
  2. You might want to rephrase. That doesn't make any sense
  3. I'm as QB hungry as anyone. I don't think you can win in the NFL without one, and I think if you find a long term answer at Qb, you set yourself up for the next 10 years of making playoff runs and competing for championships. And, to that end, I am of the belief that we have already seen the best Ryan Fitzpatrick has to offer, and that with him at the helm we are limited. With that being said, I absolutely despise this QB class. Sometimes things don't fall your way, and as Bills fans it seems like those times happen a lot, but in the year we pick 3rd in the draft, the QB class is as unproven and weak as any class in recent memory. Taking Blaine Gabbert 3rd overall doesn't make him any better than what he is. He was an average college football player, who like Losman, may test well athletically, but didn't look like an athlete on the field. Buffalo HAS to address QB, but my analogy is......they just won a $10,000 shopping spree (having the 3rd pick), but the only place they are allowed to go is Wal-Mart.
  4. completely agree about AJ Green. I'd take him over Dareus and not look back..lol...
  5. Because Im a complete loser at work with nothing to do this week, I am stalking Carolina media outlets. I am currently listening to their drive-time sports talk show and they're saying Steve Smith wants out, and apparently Thomas Davis (Panthers LB) said he wouldn't be back. Now, conspiracy theory time.... if you had "doubts" about Cam as the Carolina GM, how would you feel bringing him in when your best offensive weapon for him to throw to is .......................I don't even know. Just seems like that could encourage them to go AJ Green. For what it's worth, the host of this show is saying they need to go Peterson, and Jordan Gross is a special guest and says they should go Dareus.
  6. So NGU, you feel pretty strong that they don't like Gabbert...at least enough to warrant consideration at 3?
  7. Well, read back. I was answering someone who said we are better suited to play a 4-3 anyway, and I was saying that our 4-3 DE candidates on this roster would indicate we are a long way away from being a consistent 4-man rush team. Yeah, it's called a typo, it happens. Not my first, won't be my last. A little surprised you couldnt figure out that I meant OT's, but thats fine. Yes, they would not be striking fear in opposing OTs. Well, when you're a team with as many holes as the Bills have, fans don't want rotational players picked in the high second round , and that's exactly what Troup would be in this scenario you painted.
  8. Ah yes, no draft conversation would be complete without the mention of tom brady being a 6th rounder.
  9. I call Bruce Smith a once in a generation player who doesnt come along very often, and yes, if you could get Bruce Smith you take him. But last I checked, Dareus isnt drawing comparisons to Bruce Smith. Seymour went at the back of the First round, so did Ty Warren, and Ngata went mid-first round. Not 3rd overall. I did watch the games dude, and I know we ran a 4-man front, but to that end, if we do go to a 4-man front, that puts Williams and Dareus at DT and then we wasted a pick on Troup? And who are your 4-3 DE's in that scenario? Chris Kelsay and Dwan Edwards and Alex Carrington? Not exactly striking fear in opposing DEs.
  10. I just can't get myself excited about the idea of taking a 5-technique 3-4 DE with the 3rd overall pick in the draft. If we ran a 4 man front, and he was going to play the old Pat Williams role as the nose, I would be all for it. But a 3-4 DE to me isnt an impact position.
  11. Thanks as always NGU.... I'm not as locked in as NGU, not even close, but I did have a conversation yesterday with a guy who works with the Chargers who was there when Nix was there, and when I asked him about Nix he laughed and said "That guy loves his offensive skill position players." Just 2 guys having a conversation, obviously, but if the drafts falls 1) Newton 2) Dareus.....based on what NGU said, I wouldn't be surprised if they lean toward Green. The logic would be that he is the best player on their board, they have a high grade on him, and some scouts think he is the most complete WR to come out since Calvin. I would imagine drafting Green would be bad news for Roscoe. Roscoe was productive last year when healthy, but he has a pretty heavy contract for a guy that would now be our 4th WR.
  12. Are you sure you're not thinking of Ellis Lankster? He is a stuttering fool...just google him
  13. Maybe it means they have a defensive player atop the board, so if 2 QB's go, they will pick their top player?
  14. For what it's worth, Schefter spent years in Denver covering the broncos prior to starting with the NFL Network, so if he says they're taking Miller, I think it's pretty much a lock. I would be a little disappointed. I wanted Miller in our LB core
  15. Schefer was on Mike and Mike and said Carolina wants to take Newton, but they're still trying to convince themselves he's the right pick. Said they're leaning to him, but still haven't sold themselves on him. Said he thinks Denver would take Von Miller Then Buffalo would take Dareus. He said Newton, Miller and Dareus will be the top 3, and Buffalo will just take whoever is left...basically. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/show?showId=mikeandmike Scroll down and click on his interview
  16. I echo what you said about good work, and I also agree, I hope that's not your point. Also, you have to be realistic about who the Bills were going to take at that time. For example, the Maybin/Orakpo comparison is spot on, and the Bills clearly got the worst of that deal. However, McKelvin to Joe Flacco is not fair. In 2007, Trent came off of successful rookie season where many NFL experts said he was showing promise as a very good NFL Starter. The Bills were in no position to consider a QB. Mike Williams/Freeney......we had the 4th pick in the draft, and most draftnicks called freeney a reach at 11. Yes, he has turned out to be a superstar, but he was never considered a top 5 potential player. Losman/Steven Jackson...again, yes a great player, but in 2003 the Bills just spent a 1st rounder on Willis McGahee and still had Travis Henry on the roster. They weren't going to draft a RB there (insert CJ Spiller joker here) Sam Cowart was a great player for the Bills until he got hurt, hard to really hold that against them, and Eric Moulds was a pro bowl WR at the 24th spot, again, no regrets there. Spiller/Davis....that's interesting...Im not sure why he was singled out, but I still believe that 4 years from now Spiller might be looked at as the steal of this draft.
  17. I agree with what the original poster said and think it's a valid question, however I would say that last season after having first round money invested in Marshawn Lynch and giving Fred Jackson a contract extension for starter money, the Bills drafted CJ Spiller with a top 10 pick, so money at the position doesnt seem to be a deterant when it comes to best player available. I think if the Bills take Miller it's a sign that they think he is going to be a stud in the NFL. I get the impression that on their list of "needs" OLB is probably a little lower to them than the rest of us would rank it, but I think they would take him primarily due to his ability. Also, I would throw Patrick Peterson out there for the exact same reason.
  18. I'll sum it up for you if you don't feel like listening. Early in the interview he said "It's my gut feeling, but i don't know how great Cam Newton wants to be. He has the ability, but something tells me that he will be content to be a millionaire who is just pretty good." The last question asked of him was.... "Who will be the first player in this draft to make the All-Pro team" First two names out of his mouth.......Von Miller or Marcel Dareus. Nothing some of us haven't heard before, but definitely more fuel to the fire for those against taking the Newton risk. Listen here http://www.danpatrick.com/2011/04/25/nfl-networks-mike-mayock-raises-questions-about-newton-mallett/
  19. Maybe Shawn Nelson will finally become the TE he was supposed to be. ........it could happen right.
  20. Well, I might be in the minority, but if Newton fell to us and we took him I would be
  21. I think Cam Newton( or Gabbert, Ponder, Locker, or Mallet) leads a 4th quarter comeback after Fitz gets hurt............... OR I think Von Miller causes a sack fumble on Cassel in the final 2 minutes to seal it........ OR I think Patrick Peterson locks down Dwayne Bowe all game forcing the Chiefs to run the bal...... hmmm, ...I think the Chiefs have a lot of success running the ball on the Bills, but when they try to catch us offguard by going over the top to McCluster, Peterson snags it for an INT which sets up the Bills game winning drive..... OR AJ Green and Steve Johnson prove to be too much for the Chiefs undersized corners, and Green catches a nice fade pass for a TD to put the game out of reach.... OR Marcel Dareus ( or Nick Fairley) plugs in next to Kyle Williams with Poz backing them up and the Chiefs running game is bottled up, forcing Matt Cassel to throw for the win, and the Bills confused Cassel and force a few turnovers to get the win. Those are my predictions!
  22. Im not a Ponder guy...his girlfriend...WOW, but Ponder as a QB doesnt do much for me. Average arm with some duribility concerns, and mediocre on throws over 20 yards. My feeling is this, if you want an elite Qb in this draft, take one. If not, right it out with Fitz and just build up the defense. Taking a flier on an 2nd or 3rd round QB to me is wasting a pick that otherwise could be used to plug one of our many defensive holes. Take a QB at 3 or ride '11 with Fitz.
  23. Yes, the same Mike Mayock who predicted the Bills would take Donte Whitner, the same Mike Mayock who predicted the Jags would take Tyson Alualo(sp) when most fans had no idea who he was. So, yes, I think he is a little connected. Mayock says he's not convinced carolina takes Newton. Interestingly enough, he doesnt even mention buffalo as a potential landing spot. I disagree, but who knows. It should be interesting. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/09000d5d81f62749/article/panthers-in-tough-spot-dealing-with-top-pick-newton-hoopla?module=HP_cp2
