I was having my car worked on for smog testing out in California and then my wife (now my ex) wanted to go out to breakfast. Turned on the radio and heard the score was 28-3 at half. With the game out of control, decided it might be nice for the wife and I to spend some time together shopping. When I got back to the car, found out the game was in OT. Listened to it on the way home and got to hear the winning FG. Like all great Bills fans, the game was taped, the funniest thing about it was that a close friend of mine worked at Home Depot. I dropped wifey home and drove over to talk to him. He had only heard the halftime score and when I told him the Bills cameback and won the game, he got so excited he drove a fork lift into a display and had to take a drug test to maintain his employment. We still laugh about this today.

Brees has stated he wants to finish his career in San Diego. He wants a long term contract and signing him would not be a problem. The cap hit is only 9 million and this has been verified. Please remember the Chargers were 21 million under the cap and have released a couple of players including the mullet. They have at the present time over 14 million in cap space. This is also taking into account monies allocated for the 12th and 28th picks. A new Brees contract would probably take up about 3 million, which would save over 5.5 million on his franchise tender offer. So here's what you have: 14 million - 9 million = 5 million, add 5.5 million = 10.5 million and out of this they have to pay the 1st pick in the draft. Seems pretty reasonable to me. They also have Cleo Lemmon as back-up to Brees and then they will sign a back-up type to Brees. They would regain the salary cap space in 2006 and would again have room to manuever. I live out here and think this team is the new AFC power of the next 5 years. A.J. Smith has done a great job in cleaning up the mess that John Butler left with his stupid free agent sigings. Please think about these facts as you prepare your response.

First of all, the Brees salary cap hit would go down with a long-term contract. Salary cap rookie pool money has already been allocated for the 12th and 28th picks of the draft. The Rivers cap hit is 9 million and not 12.5 million as you state. This would leave the Chargers about 8.5 million on the cap which is more then enough to cover the 1st year of the contract of Braylon Edwards. Got any other feedback?

I have read much on the board this morning regarding the potential Phillip Rivers to San Francisco deal.. The Chargers have decided that they want to invest in Drew Brees long-term and have the parameters of a new long-term contract layed out. The deal would be Rivers to SF for the 1st pick that San Francisco has this year. With that pick, San Diego would select Michigan WR Braylon Edwards. It is their belief that Edwards has comparable talent along the lines of Terrell Owens without the baggage. This would provide San Diego the following offensive options: Drew Brees - Locked into a new long-term deal Ladanian Tomlinson - Locked into a long term contract last year Antonio Gates - Will be receiving a new long term contract this offseason Braylon Edward - Potential superstar at WR These are 4 young players who will be around for at least another 5 years performing at peak levels. The Chargers would also retain the 12th and 28th picks with which they would select an outside pass rush linebacker such as Shawn Merriman and then a Shaun Cody or Marcus Spears. In addition, the Chargers are also rumored to be a player in the sweepstakes for Dolphin corner Patrick Surtain and this deal may go down on draft day. The advantages for the 49ers are that they would get a potential franchise QB who has one year of experience, is higher rated then either Alex Smith or Aaron Rogers and would be able to save money on the contract as Rivers prorated signing bonus has been paid already by the Chargers. This is attractive to 49er owner John York who by all assessments wants to run the niners on a lower budget. I believe that the way that TD is handling the Travis Henry deal is brilliant. The Cardinals want and need TH because they want to use their pick at the top of the draft to select CB Adam "Pac-Man" Jones. The Bills may have to make a small concession to swap 2nd round picks and it may take a 4th round pick in 2006 to close the deal. With the 44th pick the Bills may have their selection of guards Elton Brown and David Baas or C Chris Spencer. This would give the Bills an excellent line with adaquate depth. The parameters for the LJ Shelton for Travis Henry are pretty much done. Its a swap which also includes a swap of 2nd round picks. Ther Cardinals are fighting the draft pick swap, but this is what TD wants and other considerations from the Bills may be included and this may mean compensation in 2006 with a 3rd or 4th round pick, but this deal will be pretty much done. The question being is what the Bills want to do with the 44th pick in the draft. My guess is any of the following three players Elton Brown G - Virginia David Baas G - Michigan Chris Spencer C - Mississippi In my opinion, any of the three would be fine as the Bills would address the offensive line position well with the addition of Shelton and the 2nd round pick. In the 3rd round the Bills could make a move on a a back-up running back, in the 4th a defensive tackle, 5th a corner, 6th and 7th best player on the board types.

I have read many draft reports and Elton Brown is rated as a 2nd round pick. I have also seen him play and my thought he would be perfect for Green Bay with the 24th pick in the 1st round. However because he is a guard, he may very well slip into the 2nd round and if the Bills can get up to Arizona's spot, he may be available.

I believe the best guard in this draft is Elton Brown of Virginia, he is 6'4 5/8 and 335 lbs and is great in space and a mauler in the running game. If the Bills can pull off the Travis Henry for LJ Shelton trade with a swap of 2nd round picks, it is very possible that the Bills could get access to this guy. Adding him to the mix along with Shelton, gives the Bills this offensive line for 2005. LT - LJ Shelton 6-6 - 335 LG - Chris Villarrial 6-3 - 318 C - Trey Teague 6-5 - 300 RG - Elton Brown 6-5 - 338 RT - Mike Williams 6-6 - 360 All with the exception of Teague provide great drive blocking capability and Shelton has good feet so he should be able to protect JP's blind side, Brown and Williams could make up a dynamic force as power run blockers into 2010. For depth the Bills would have Ross Tucker, Mike Gandy, Dylan McFarland and Jason Peters, along with Jon Donobros as the long snapper. I believe this line could be the key to a playoff season in 2005. Thoughts and opinions.

I have read this board day after day and have been subjected to constant whinning about this player and that who is no longer available. The one constant in free agency over its history is that the big name signings don't work out well in either the short term or the long term. A team is build by carefully putting pieces that work together, develop a special winning chemistry and then with hard work and dedication winning follows. The 2005 Buffalo Bills are being put together taking these aspects into consideration. In actuality the headlines I am interested in start in the 2nd week of September and signing some "BIG NAME" in March often has little to do with winning in September-December. Let the teams such as the Redskins, Raiders, Dolphins and Vikings pay ridiculous money to "ME GUYS" whose goal is to achieve financial secutity above winning. I believe the way you win is to find smart players who fit within a defined scheme and have great working chemistry, coaching and a common goal to achieve and win. Our GM, head coach and staff are all on the same page and committed to that goal. I also want everyone whinning about the lack of movement in free agency to also keep one thing in mind, the winners of three of the last four Super Bowl's also have the greatest percentage of players who have completed their college degrees. It does make you think that the mind does things fast 40 times, incredible bench press and three cone drills can't.

Anthony Thomas is a free agent and the Bears start Thomas Jones who ran for 948 yards last year. It is rumored that the Bears want Texas RB, Cedric Benson who they think is an excellent fit for their offensive style.

I think you nailed it. This is exactly what will happen. The Dolphins, Bears and Buccaneers are looking at running backs, however, the Bears and Bucs may choose to go WR if they know the backdoor is their to trade for Travis Henry. I still think its very possible that the Dolphiuns and Seahawks do business by making the Patrick Surtain for Shawn Alexander trade with the swap of 1st round draft positions. Even if that deal occurs, the Seahawks would go with running back Ronnie Brown and that still leaves the possibilities for Tampa and Chicago. Latest rumors are that the Bears like Cedric Benson (why I have no idea) and Tampa Bay was enamored with Cadalllic Williams (but may be very interested in WR Mike Williams). If the Bears and Bucs and Dolphins/Seahawks go running back, the Cardinals will be shut out of the loop and may be forced to deal for Travis. Maybe the best case scenario is for the Bills to try and pursue the following trade: Travis Henry & our 2nd round pick for Simeon Rice. We gain about 2.2 million in salary cap relief by making this deal (TH + 2nd round pick draft pool allocation) and pick up an elite edge pass rusher. This move improves our pass rush, obviously improves the secondary and is feasible in that Tampa would love to move the salary. Interested in anyones feedback.

OK Bills fans, all the crying and hand-wringing should now be all over. Jonas and Pat are gone and that's that. It's time to move on and make the moves needed to bring this years team to playoff level. Here's my suggestion: DT - Marcus Bell - Big run stuffer who is 5 years younger then Pat, will come much cheaper and will do an excellent job next to Sam Adams. OT - Oliver Ross - Starting tackle on that great Steeler line. Would fill the tackle spot very well, would add drive blocking capability that is sorely lacking in Jonas Jennings play and he does have a history with TD. WR - David Terrell - Big receiver who had great skills coming out of a quality program at Michigan. I think this guy is a breakout player who last year caught 42 passes with a 16.6 ypc average. Also heard him on an interview on ESPN Radio and his attitude is excellent and is just looking for a chance. This is the type of player you want as he wants the opportunity to prove himself. Alt WR - Joe Juravicious - Potential slot receiver who has size and seperation ability. Short term solution if we are looking for 2005 and 2006. Would be a great red zone threat and safety valve outlet for JP. These moves are all low-cost solutions and would provide the Bills the type of players who bring levels of performance as good as or better then what we have lost. Lets see what everyone else thinks.

You are welcome to your opinion but Abraham is the classic "me" guy. If he had any character he would have played in the playoffs last year. Also, if you remember he missed the Jet-Raider playoff game a couple of years ago with an upset stomach. I am pleased the Jets franchised that piece of sh-- and wasted 6.3 Million of their salary cap for a guy who won't play when he has an ingrown toenail or a bruise. In fact, if Jonas does sign with the Jets, Abrahame may lead the practice field in sacks for a season based on the piss=poor effort Jenning had against him in the game at the Jets last year. In that way you can have two selfish shitplies making over 12 million a year to stare out in practice and then watch them sit together on the sidelines as they are injured with some minor injury. As far as statistics are concerned, its not what you do while your in the game, it what the team does. A player with great stats who dosen't play generates no useful statistics, hopefully someday you may figure this out.

This would be an excellent replacement for Pat Williams. I like this guy and he would be a lower cost and younger version with similar talent.

I understand your point, but is the solution overpaying for talent just because they are familiar to you. Replacements will be found and plugged in to meet the needs at the price the Bills can afford to pay. As far as your point about Abraham vs Schoebel, look at the yearly statistics: Player: Experience Games Played Career Tackles Sacks Passes Defensed Schoebel 4 years 64 227 34.5 9 Abraham 5 yaers 57 220 43.0 4 Please tell me again how great John Abraham is in comparision to Aaron Schoebel. Plus Schoebel has never missed a game in his career and Abraham is always hurt or sick or has some ailement bothering him, so when you get away from the "name value" and look at the core statistics, I believe you might want to reconsider your opinion.

I have read about where the poor Buffalso Bills are going to be if and when Jonas Jennings and Pat Williams leave. My point is simple, just because a player leaves the team, the team is not going to go to hell in a hand-basket. Lets look at the situation from a football context: Jonas Jennings - Is he worth a $15 Million Dollar contract? If you think so you can't be serious. He is injured constantly, gets beat by every speed rusher in a division filled with them and wants to be paid. Well if the Jets want to pay stupid money to sign him, great for them, maybe this way we can watch Aaron Schoebel run around Jonas like John Abraham did. My feeling is good ridance Mr. Jennings. Pat Williams - Pat is at the stage of his career where he wants a top performance contract for a set of diminishing skills. Pat has been a wonderful player who I would love to see come back, but not at the cost of dragging the team into salary cap hell in two years when the Bills have the bulk of their defensive core up for free agency. Some desperate team such as the Vikings will over pay to get Pat and he may very well take the offer. If he does then Ron Edwards and Tim Anderson will do just fiine as a replacement in the middle of the defensive line. So cheer up Bills fans, we will survive the loss of these players and move ahead. Lets wish both of them well as they move on to bigger and better paydays and lets as fans focus on players who want to be members of the Buffalo Bills.

David Terrell would be an excellent addition to the Bills. Factor in he made 42 catches last year on a woeful offensive team with no quarterback. Terrell averaged 16.6 per catch last year and may be starting to catch on to the pro game. I believe that his contract demands may be small enough for this to be a value signing. Just looking to see how many share this view.

Randy Moss to the Raiders for 7th pick in 2005 draft, Napolean Harris and a low pick in the 2005 draft. Stupid trade for both teams in my opinion.

This guy is garbage as a football player. Let him move on to his new career as a mouthpiece on the NFL Network. Suggesting the Bills bring him in simply shows your lack of knowledge about football talent.
