  1. This would be a good time to mention something about Todd Haley (KC Head Coach) that I believe hasn't been mentioned here before despite the inundation of posts about how Gailey, and now D'Alessandriss were let go by Haley.

Haley is the only Head Coach in the NFL that has never played football at ANY level.

He got into football because his dad, Dick Haley was a long time NFL Director of Player Personnel. Todd did play college golf at two schools and attended 3 colleges before getting his degree.

His only coordinator experience was with Arizona in 2007-2008 where he got a lot of credit for coaching the offense and Kurt Warner. Of course that offense didn't miss a beat after he left and there are many people in Kansas City and elsewhere wondering how this guy got an NFL Head Coaching job.

The fact that he fired Gailey and D'Alessandriss, in and of itself, means nothing to me. Not saying these were great hires...just saying.

Wow, don't obscure reality with the facts... :worthy:

  2. if the bills move, no one outside of WNY will blink. plse, give me a break...the media will cover it for a few days and that will be it. "decent franchise, almost no success in 50 years, loyal fan base and owner despite complete meltdown of a once prominent city, blah blah blah. no one will care because no one who wasnt born there has ever been there.

You are most certainly wrong. I have lived in Orange County, CA for the past 13 years until moving back to Buffalo, and traveled all over this great country. No one wants to see the Bills to move, and alot of people care. The Bills are a unique important franchise in the NFL. By stripping Buffalo of the Bills its another important unique experience lost.

The NFL isn't stupid, it needs teams like the Bills, and many of the fans agree.

  3. There aren't many geniuses - that's the point. The only coaches you could tab "genius" are the ones who were innovative; started a scheme that was totally new. Walsh started the west coast offense and took the NFL by storm - genius. Belichek, as much as I hate him, is a defensive genius. Dick LeBeau is the architect of the zone blitz scheme - and was a genius in his time, until the rest of the NFL caught up to him. Whoever designed the Bears "46" defense and so on and so forth. A genius is an individual who either creates a scheme that takes the NFL by storm, or gets much more out of the roster that he has. I don't throw the term around as loosely as you do. Chan Gailey a genius?! Please...

    OK... Thanks for your input.

Belichek, a defensive genius? How was that this year?

Buddy Ryan designed the 46 defense btw...

"I don't throw the term around as loosely as you do."

I think you do, and you don't have a clue, who you are talking about.

Gailey has coached up more offenses higher in ranking than you know about...

Maybe genius is an overstatement in your eyes, but I view his accomplishments as such.

  4. Please. There shall be no more talk of the spread offense until we have an OLine that can run it. We have a good enough interior three in Levitre, Hangartner, and Wood but the spread is most vulnerable at the edges.

    How's our edge protection lately?

    GO BILLS!!!

Great point. Do you think that tips their hand a bit for this upcoming draft?

  5. First time I've heard ANYONE refer to Chan Gailey as a "genius" in any respects. For all his genius, he couldn't get past the preseason as OC of the Chiefs. Gailey is far from a genius - he may do well when he has the talent to work with, but to call him a genius, would imply that he would do well with sub par talent. Point to one instance in which he took subpar talent and finished top 10 in every major offensive category. I love the spin that optimistic Bills fans continue to put on things. I of course am hoping that Gailey goes undefeated next year, but history tells me otherwise...

OK "genius" was too much according to your definition, but who is a genius in your words? Enlighten me please, and I say that with all do respect.

Trust me I am not that optimistic, but I am realistic.

  6. Marty Schottenheimer has taken 3 teams to the playoffs and has coached teams to 15 winning seasons and only 2 losing seasons as an NFL head coach

and I'm pretty sure he is considered a big name

Yep and the rest of the NFL and Levy B word slapped him around even when he had a major talent advantage.

  7. Many of us will do both (Hate the Bills but give him a chance). There is clearly a problem when the top 8 GM and coaching candidates turn the Bills down. The Bills have done a lot of things the past 10 years to give the whole league, AND it's fan base, the perception they don't have a clue. Nix and Gailey will do NOTHING to dispel those notions... unless results are seen on the field. I predict ticket-holders are about to abandon the Bills in droves... but I also think that many Bills fans will remain loyal and will be begging for some... ANY... sign of life from this team... and then return to the Stadium.

Wow! Perception is reality? And are you sucking off of Sullivan's teat? Sports Writers and the media care about relevancy! Don't buy into it, young Buffalo fan!

Yep we suck now, but things get better, and this was a good day....

The Donahoe era is flushed clean!!!

  8. I would have liked Gailey as OC. He's another guy who has great success as a coordinator but hasn't translated that into the top spot.

I am hopeful that he can make the offense watchable again. I just don't think he has the track record that the Bills needed to quickly get out of the laughingstock status that they find themselves in.

You're right that winning will solve that. It is possible that Gailey will build a winner. The task will just be that much tougher because Gailey doesn't bring the juice/buzz that the franchise needs with their current status in order to attract top candidates in the coaching ranks and free agency.

I like Gailey as OC, but I like him as HC too.

But this isn't on point... Sexy hires?

  9. Tebow & the spread are good for the Bills. I actually like Nix , he sure doesn't look or act 70 y/o . He is a good football man -That is what we need especially during the draft. No more Maybin type one year wonder picks that for sure....

What do you mean doesn't act 70 years old? My mother (70 years old) will run circles around anyone!!! I dear anyone to keep up!

Off topic: OK, I had to get that out. Sorry, but people think life ends at 65, and that pisses me off. We should be celebrating the seniors.

  10. This franchise needs credibility, and someone who that can rebuild disasters. Marty has proven that he can do that time and again. This team is several steps away from competing for a Super Bowl, so his lack of playoff success is really irrelevant at this point.

The first step, again, is credibility. This franchise has none. Marty would have brought a great deal of that instantly, which would allow them to at least compete to attract good coordinators, assistants, and some hope in free agency. Gailey brings none of that.

You get credibility by winning. simple.

Marty is 66 and out of football for 3 years, and I am not sure if that brings credibility.

Gailey brings a genius offensive mind to a team that needs to be resuscitated from near a serious coma on offense.

    Marty??? Are you serious?

  11. So you're saying the Dolphins were a talent-laden bunch when he took over? Or the Pats? Or the Giants? The Cowboys I'll give you, simply because I have no interest in looking up what their roster looked like when he took over. I think Quincy Carter was their QB though, and they were desperate enough to take that pitcher from Michigan.

Not saying that, but he has really prolonged his legacy by jumping ship and being a free agent when its convenient.

BTW, he isn't coaching the Dolphins.

I will lay this out right now. I hate everything about Parcells, and that fat ass Tuna, so I will probably be biased.

  12. I love that we are taking in serious Football Men! This last 10 years of Donahoe ball sucked! Where is Hollywood Donahoe when you need him. You may question why I say 10 years, and not 6, well I think it took 10 years for that stink to escape One Bills Drive.

Gailey may not be the right guy. Who the hell knows, but I like that we have Nix and Gailey at our controls as opposed to Hollywood Donahoe and his lackeys.

I see alot of Dwight Adams in this...

  13. Interesting; thanks. Ralph hired Nix after a nonexistent search, though, so whoever made the decision re: Marty, it's pretty much Wilson's responsibility in the end.

OK, lets remember the timeline here. Nix was a great hire last season for the Bills. He was not an entrenched member of this front office. He is a fresh face.

I know its not popular to appreciate Ralph due to our constant losing, but don't think that they just settled on Nix. That man is impressive. Football guy to the core.

  14. I agree with you, look at Tom Donahoe--he was a sexy pick.

That being said--there are a lot of examples. Bill Parcells being the one that comes to mind instantly.

Yep, Bill Parcells. The guy who jumps to every franchise when it suits him (with a huge monetary stipulation). I agree, but he is very calculating. I don't blame him for that, but he does calculate every career move he makes. If the Bills were in a different situation talent wise, he may have started sniffing around.

  15. I know it's hard to believe, but it was not Ralph that shot down Marty. Yes, Marty wanted the job. He wanted it well before Buddy was even hired. But it was Buddy's call. I am sure Buddy did not want that to be public having worked with Marty. I don't know how it was spun back on Ralph. He makes his share of mistakes, but that one was not him.

I am not necessarily supporting the hire, But in the end, Buddy needs someone he can work with and if he thinks that is Gailey and not Marty, that probably has the best chance of working anyway.

Regarding Thurman, does anyone think that someone who goes on WGR every other day has access to any inside information from the Bills? I guess you can value his opinion. But he will likely never have any inside info.

Yep. That whole Tim Graham BS didn't sound right. Too EASY, and lame. Wreaks of Buffalo sport writer.

  16. I really don't put an more value on a NFL "reporter's" opinion than anyone on an internet board. Time will tell and I'll jsut trust Nix at this point.

Amen! They had no clue. :w00t::w00t:

This reminds me when San Diego hired Norv Turner after they fired Marty Schotzky. Same media coverage and opinion of both teams.
