Fair enough. I didn't watch their full regular season games, just some parts. But I'd love for them to lose badly in the post season. Don't expect it, but would relish it very, very much.

I respect that but I struggle to get excited about other teams doing what I wished our team did. It’s like when people got excited about the Pats losing. I could never get there. I just wanted the bills to beat them.

You got it. We've been a very good team with a great QB that's very good in the regular season but not great in clutch playoff games.

Yes, it beats the drought years, but the funny thing with expectations is the higher you set them the more disappointing it is not to make them.

So, in a weird way losing in the playoffs hurts a lot more than not making them.

Happiness is a product of your expectations. I might have killed a person (a bad one) to have this season during the drought years.  Now it’s like a bit of a wasted season

  3. I hope the nfl doesn’t go bankrupt now!!!

and I love football and can’t imagine not watching what should be a great game. Plus, if Baltimore wins, we can say we would have beat them so it’s almost like going to the SB!!!

When was the last time the Chiefs were humiliated? I'd really like to see that Sunday.

On top of that, I want to see Kelce hit a wall very soon and stop making the game-changing plays he does. Then Taylor is simply left with a cro-mag.

I'd love to see Pat drop in the QB rankings after Kelce fades. I know he'll still be top 5 but I hate the narrative that he could be the GOAT and the assumption that he's on a different level from everyone else.

These are the things I'd love to see.

Chiefs had a bunch of embarrassing games this year. That’s why this loss sucked so much worst. This was the garbage of the Chiefs in the mahomes era.

and Mahomes has a bottom 5 receiving core and Kelce ain’t Kelce. They are going to go so hard on getting him legit weapons this offseason

  4. How did we not make a Super Bowl:

    https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-total-nfl-wins-last-5-years

    - second in wins

    - 5th in points/ game

    - 1st in points allowed/ game

    - 3rd in first downs

    - 2nd in 3rd down conversion %

honestly, I have absolutely loved this ride. To have an amazing qb where playoffs are a given every year is such an amazing feeling. But man, a team with that resume should have made more than one championship game. 😢

just wanted to bum everyone out on a Saturday morning.

I fully expected this award to go to him, but Flacco really deserved it.

I mean I think Damar winning is a bit silly (he did almost die and played in the nfl again which is pretty amazing) but Flacco played in what 5 games and throw a ton of ints.

if anyone should have gotten it, it should have been Baker.

We’re all behind Damar and always will be. What he went through last January was some scary stuff. I am glad he recovered and is healthy. Life is so much more than just about football and I am happy he deservedly won this award.

With saying that it is now time to move on from him as a player for the Buffalo Bills.

We can’t cut him now! It will be like curse of Flutie and Red Jacket combined!

True but the DL did have a great Year overall,  finally

I just fans are overvaluing our players because of where they were picked. I liked AJ in college but he never was going to be anything special in the nfl besides a nice rotational DE. Oliver is undersized so some games, he’s going to get shallowed up. Von is washed. Greg has turned into a solid all round DE but doesn’t seem to possess elite pass rushing skills.

hopefully, it is the coach but I think most of those guys aren’t special players.

Has any assistant coach ever done less with more? Glad another team is forcing us to shake it up.

Maybe he'll be a better coordinator than he was a defensive line coach.

Maybe those guys he had aren’t really that good.

I'll admit it's hard to objectively evaluate head coaches. It's not like players where there are clear stats to look at, and it can be hard to differentiate between when a play fails because of a player versus when a play fails because of a coach. Still I try to take the individual components into account when I evaluate McDermott. I don't think he is a bad coach, I just question if he is a top 5 coach which is likely what you need to win a Super Bowl.

By every single stat (which I agree aren’t perfect), he has been a top 5 coach the last five years. 2nd in wins, 1st in points give up. That’s a hell of a resume.

What hypothetical did I make up? The exact game scripts that I pulled for the Chiefs playoff run last year? Those aren't hypotheticals. They really happened. I think if people are honest with themselves they'll admit that those exact game scripts performed by Allen on the Bills would lead to a loss in at least one of those three games. So what separates the QBs in terms of their legacy and accolades is not just QB play. It is mostly to do with the situations around them.

I find it weird that I get any pushback on this concept. Everybody here knows QBs are responsible for at most 50% of the game's outcome, right? So when you're talking about an elite QB versus a replacement level QB the elite QB will almost always win. But elite versus elite, it comes down to every other factor.

You’re like pretend f every game is the same and flows the same way. They don’t.

the anti Lamar (which there are a lot on this board) kill him for his lack of monster stats. They kill teams in the first half and don’t need to throw the ball in the second half. It’s like the Bills against the Cowboys.

every game has its own story. So you can’t just blindly say this player would do this in this game because they did that in this game. It’s kinda crazy.

mahomes is the goat and it’s not a knock again Allen, who’s amazing n his own right. Only Bills fans would attempt to argue this. Let’s take our medicine, reload, and be them next year.

Herbert is the opposite of Allen, in the sense that people over-compensate for his shortcomings by blaming those around him.

Very good QB.   Elite talent.  But something is missing in him, along with the issues around him.

If anyone can change that, it would be Harbaugh though.

One of the knocks on Herbert is he’s very introverted. I also think the Chargers talent gets way overrated. Williams is always hurt, Allen gets hurt a ton, eckler isn’t a great between the tackles runner, defense has big names that are soft.

but you’re right that Harbaugh will get the most of our them.

And yet you inadvertently agreed with my point about the single game QB production, and haven't tried to dispute anything else I said in that post.

I get it. Most people are results-based thinkers. It takes a lot of brain power to look beyond the final result and evaluate the individual components.

You are literally making up hypotheticals to discredit how good Mahomes is. After they beat us in the playoffs. Again. With a team everyone, including Bills fans, though was garbage.

Is it the Jimmys and Joes, or the Xs and Os?!?!?!?

If Reid comes here, we get a championship; Reid would have a field day tailoring an offense around Josh and what he brings to the table.

Mahomes is the best in the game and the KC team overall is excellent.  If McDermott goes there, they might get a SB, but it would be a lot harder, and it would only happen 1 time instead of 3 or 4 more times with Reid.

Reid had zero SB wins before Mahomes. I believe if you take away Mahomes, McDermott has a higher win % than McDermott, who did make the playoffs without Allen (obviously I think Reid is a better coach but McDermott has been good too).

  12. I think, and if sucks, Micah needs to retire before something terrible happens. Poyer is pretty washed but I’m fine with him for a year to be a vet guy. A constant pass rush would help all our d backs though.

I think of a different scenario. Instead of trading the pick, the Bills draft Mahomes.  The next year Arizona drafts Josh Allen & they are not in the same conference.  With the subtraction of Mahomes in KC and in Buffalo instead, and Allen in the NFC, plus the additional draft choices the Bills would have had in the 2018 draft, do the Bills have one or more Lombardis?  Does Allen get Arizona to any Super Bowls?  Every time KC knocks us out, I feel like we created the monster in KC with the 2017 trade.

Mahomes wins a SB in Buffalo. I don’t think Allen is close to the same player in Arizona. The bills were a very good situation to get drafted to: playoff team, top 5 defense every year,

mahomes was a more polished player than Allen entering the nfl. He carried an awful defense in college. Some fans forget that Allen wasn’t close to the player he is now when he entered the league. The Bills, especially Daboll, deserve a ton of credit in how they developed him into the player he is. Now, he doesn’t need that development. But far too many fans forget the bills did a textbook example of how to successfully develop a raw qb, which is crazy because it was the Bills.

Patrick Mahomes has a passer rating of 79.7 with 738 yards, 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in 3 games in Super Bowls in his career.   We saying Josh would have fared worse than that if McDermott held his side of the bargain in the playoffs?

This is our new Brady. Well even though he won 7 SBs, he wasn’t really that good!

Yes, perhaps I should have been more clear on that.

When Bease was here, he was our #2 WR, Shakir will be that in 2024.

I could KS out producing a rookie next year sure.  But if we don’t get a good outside threat or force him out there, it will be bad for this offense and him.

  15. 45 minutes ago, TheyCallMeAndy said:

There is no comparison between Josh Reed and Shakir. Reed was a very limited WR physically and never hit 600 yards in a season, never caught more than 71% of his passes.

I get what you’re trying to say though. Shakir’s ceiling remains to be seen, but it could be higher than we all anticipated.

At the very least Shakir should be the starting slot WR next year and Allen’s 3rd passing option.

To be fair, because Reed is my least favorite Bill (personal stuff haha) but

1 - Reed won a Blienkoff award, was a 2nd round pick, and might still have lsu records. Dude had a legit resume out of college.
2 - Reed played with Losman and KS plays with Allen.

I loved what I saw out of KS this year. But what hurts teams is when you settle for guys in roles they shouldn’t be in. KS doesn’t have the size or speed to be the type of number 2 we need on the outside. It doesn’t mean he can’t thrive on the inside. Let’s not force him to be something that he’s not

I hate that any black coach who gets an interview gets "Rooney Rule" shouted at them.

Thad has revived the career of a QB kicked off three teams in 15 months. I think him getting OC looks on the back of that work is very much earned.

Fair point. However, Tomlin was also a coach in the NFL at various levels for 7 years  before he took that interview. A bit more qualified and believable that he would be more than just a token interview. People often overlook that.

The problem I have with this interview is that (at least to me) signifies that a real OC search is not about to happen. The job is Joe's. Just like it was Ken's in the last OC search. They are choosing comfortable over what may be better for the development and growth of the offense.

There are plenty of minority candidates with better qualifications if they wanted to conduct a true search for OC. Perhaps ask for permission to interview EB? Duce Staley. This is a farce to meet a rule.

Good counter. I hope they interview Duce or EB. I like Brady but it wasn’t like this was some perfect offense under him (and it is very hard to take over mid season to be fair).  They should keep interviewing.

and I don’t why this has to be some “controversial “ topic. It’s ok to have different thoughts. Part of the problem is this country is adults can’t have civil discussions. There were issues with racism at certain positions for a while (qbs and head coaches). It has done a much better job at opening up opportunities for people and I struggle to see why that is a bad thing. I also think the cronyism is a much bigger problem at this point too.

This same bad, tired argument every hiring season.

It is absolutely valuable to get interviewing experience and network-building opportunities.

I've literally been through this a number of times myself. Interviewing for spots I didn't really have a shot at, but turned into a great opportunity to get on the radar of executives and surprise/impress them.

When you approach it positively and graciously, it's a great experience and one of the best ways to build your career.

Great post. Before I got my current (right now dream job), I loved interviewing. I had a job so there was zero pressure and it’s was just great practice. I’m very humble but I got offered like 7 or 8 jobs the past few years because I started to kill interviews.

He's a rarity in that most minority head coaching candidates have a defensive orientation. I think it's wise to interview him, especially given his recent history with our team as a player. If he has anything to offer as a coach he will get head coach interviews in upcoming hiring cycles.

That is a good point. The guy who was Lewis’ OC who got the Panthers job had a resume that wasn’t crazy long.

but I agree that offensive coaches definitely are more in demand for head coaching jobs.
