1. From the NY Post - Bills got some good news when rookie receiver Roscoe Parrish returned to practice last week sans cast. The second-round pick out of Miami could make his return to the lineup as early as Oct. 16 against the Jets. Parrish, who was unstoppable during Buffalo's training camp, had wrist surgery on Aug. 12. He'll immediately slide right into the Bills' slot-receiver position, which he had all but locked up in camp before getting injured

    471768

I wouldn't trust anything the Post writes.

  2. Quickness and hitting the hole fast are obviously two completely different things than being fast. Willis is plenty fast. And playing behind a line that can't block and a team that usually can't pass, in one full year he has plenty excellent and been very productive any way you cut it.

    471459

If we ever do put together a good line, then we don't need a great back, because a good line makes an average back look great. A great back will look great behind a poor line. I think Willis did look slow. He hasn't broken a long TD run this year, and on the 54-yard run called back, he was caught from behind. I was up in the nosebleeds and haven't seen a replay, but does anyone know if the Reed hold is what sprung McGahee or did he have the corner?

Kelly, 4.2 yards per carry this year ranks 16th. Last year, he was 27th in that stat. That is average at best. Sorry, I just don't see him as great yet.

  3. That's garbage. He has already shown every single skill you could possibly want in a quarterback. I admit, he has played terribly these last three games. he deserved to be benched both of the times he was benched, even though personally I wouldnt have done it this game, although I understand it. But he has clearly shown that he can throw every pass, he has a cannon, he handles the ball extremely well, he has great running ability and he has very good escapability. He can thread the needle on short slants, mini posts and passes down the middle.

I don't know what you're watching but he has displayed all the talent you want. He just needs to make far better decisions, he has to settle down, he has to take something off the ball when he doesn't need to gun it, he has to slide instead of try for the extra yard, he has to take what the defense gives him instead of trying to make the great play all the time, he has to throw the ball away when the rush is on deep in his own end, he has to look off his main target quicker and more decisively, and he has to make better throws when guys are open. That is a ton of different things. But he has clearly shown to me that he can do most or all of that. And it's simply experience. Frankly, I think it's going to take him the whole year.

    462207

He hasn't shown touch, accuracy or recognition. And give me those skills over speed and strength any day. And he eexhibited every skill in Tulane except the ability to win.

To many of you people have absolutely no patience and even less game understanding.

    462349

Can we get off other people's game understanding? If any of us knew it that well, we'd be on the sidelines. I, like many on the board, areseason ticket holders - pretty similar to a stock holder - and, yes, we get to have our opinion count even if it may not be as informed as Ralph Wilson's.

Lets make a comparison if I might here.

Cincy drafts Carson Palmer in 03 and he sits the entire year

Cincy names Palmer starter in 04 over John Kitna who was 8-8 the year before, Palmer goes 1-3 in his first 4 starts.  The Bengals finish the season 8-8 2 games shy of a wild card

2005 Palmer is still the starter with a year of NFL starting experience under his belt and the Bengals are 4-0 and sitting on top of the AFC Central.

    Man this sounds kinda similar...

2004 The Bills draft JP Losman and he sits the majority of the year minus a few meaning less plays towards the end of the season.  (Yes I know he was hurt, but did anyone seriously expect him to start?)

2005 JP is named the starter and so far is 1-3 in his first four starts....Think I see a pattern here

2006  The sky is the limit, as long as we dont run JP out of town like every QB since Jim Kelly

    462538

    Some year: Montana was born.

    Later: He wins four Superbowls.

    Some year: Losman was born.

    Later: It only follows...

That's just my way of saying it doesn't do any good comparing JP to anyone else. Let what he does be decided on its own merit.

  4. Talk all you want about JP Losman being the problem.  The REAL problem is our defense.  They play like they all had their nuts cut off.  Pushed around like rag dolls, missing tackles, giving up big 3rd downs.  I refuse to belive that losing Spikes and Fat Pat Williams is the only reason why.  These guys have quit.

    461674

Yes, they've quit. But with an offense that has three TD's in four games, can you blame them? Quitting means that they came out hard, saw the situation was hopeless, and said it's not worth getting injured if we're not going to win anyway. Well, sorry to say, they're right.

  5. i just don't get blaming TD?

    Why?

The team and the coaches are not playing sound football.  Do you honestly think that this team has played as well as they are capable of playing???

If so it is the GM's fault.

If not it is the coach's, and the players fault.

I just don't understand blame TD posts.. they are just plain ignorant

    461985

I'm not saying that this is the only reason that donahoe should be fired, but one of the reasons is that at a certain point, the boss has to take the blame, no matter what. It's like saying Frist and Delay shouldn't reflect poorly on Bush.

And where do you get off saying that they haven't played up to potential? I think the potential was just a bill of goods that you and I and we all bought from our GM.

  6. Its a stupid move.  The Bills are down by 6.  Losman should be given the chance to play his way out of the slump.  If they want to replace him with Holcomb,  that's fine,  but do it during the week,  not in a situation like this.  This is twice Mularkey has done this to Losman and I don't think its a positive for Losman or the team.

    461330

    Slump, that's a new twist.

  7. Lastly, this team may be one year away from being a significant player in the AFC East for the rest of this decade and it is in part to the excellent work done by TD and the efforts of the players on this roster and the additions that will be made in the future.

I know many of you on this board do not remember or are too young and immature to think backs of the teams under Bill Pollian that went 2-14, 4-12 and 4-12 before maturing into the team that won the AFC East from 1988 to 1991 and went to four straight Super Bowls.

Be patient and let this team develop instead of your constant whining and bitching because frankly I am getting fed up reading it from you bandwagon losers.

Go ahead and argue with me on what I have written, but I guarantee you that any point you bring up will not be supported by facts which I will prove out in my response, so fire away all TD bashers, as I am ready for you.

    458703

Wow, sometimes, the pickings are easy. I'll start by telling you that I am not old enough to remember the pair of 2-14 seasons (I was born in 1984), but even I know that Polian wasn't the GM until 1986. After a dismal first season, like Donahoe, he was in the playoffs by his third season, and by his fifth, he was in the freakin Superbowl. Sorry if that was immature.

You ask for patience. Well, I'm just wondering, how many non-playoff seasons would it take for you to lose patience? Many would think five is enough (not that I'm writing off this year - yet). And, by your own admission, still a year away.

You said you'd respond to every attack, but you've only responded to two. So, here we go.

    Dan,

Great response, 27-40.  You need to qualify the points as to why the team went 27-40, not just use the numbers.

Try making some reasons and justifications and then generate an actual intelligent response.

    458811

The reason the team went 27-40 is because the GM made poor personnel and coaching decisions. I don't understand how drafting Henry in the second round and flipping him for a third is used by many as a highlight of Donaoe's time here. Yes, the bottom line counts.

    Hi Bill,

Guess that 6-10 team last year was better then the 9-7 Bills.  Also, would you like to have your offense built around Drew Deadslow, Terry 9she) Glenn and Keyshawn (Just shut your damm mouth) Johnson.  That's the future of that team.

Also, what has Parcells ever won without Bill Bellichek.

    Answer me that hot shot!!

    458818

No, the future of that team is a running back that has put up just as good numbers as Willis, who cost a second round pick, as opposed to a first. Oh, and a second round pick that we gave to them. Nice move, Parcells, not as nice, Donahoe.

  8. Great point.  :D

How many teams have NOT even made the playoffs over that span?

    456998

    Seven teams:

    North South

Pittsburgh Steelers 3 Atlanta Falcons 2

Baltimore Ravens 3 New Orleans Saints 1

    Cincinnati Bengals Carolina Panthers 1

Cleveland Browns 1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3

    South North

Indianapolis Colts 4 Green Bay Packers 4

    Jacksonville Jaguars Minnesota Vikings 2

    Houston Texans Detroit Lions

Tennessee Titans 3 Chicago Bears 1

    East East

New England Patriots 3 Philadelphia Eagles 5

New York Jets 3 Dallas Cowboys 1

Buffalo Bills New York Giants 2

    Miami Dolphins 2 Washington Redskins

    West West

San Diego Chargers 1 Seattle Seahawks 2

Denver Broncos 3 St. Louis Rams 4

    Kansas City Chiefs Arizona Cardinals

    Oakland Raiders 3 San Francisco 49ers 2

Sorry if it's not clear, but those are the teams and their playoff appearances in the last five years. Of the seven that missed, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Washington, and Detroit all look like they have at least a passing shot at the playoffs. That could leave Buffalo in the company of the woeful Cardinals and the Texans, who have only existed for three of those five years. And don't claim anything else - the Bills have fell to the level of the Cards and the Bengals of the last decade. And even if only three teams won the Superbowl, 8 made it. And of the seven who haven't sniffed the playoffs, none have kept their GM through the whole stretch. At least they're trying to get better. (I know, technically the Bills switched after the first year.)

  9. If you are being serious, it would be interesting...  I don't know if they do it with teams...  What I think WOULD be neat would be if Ralph would sell the team to Buffalo Residents like GB...  I don't know how he could do it...  but that'd be awesome.

    456527

The league has outlawed that after Green Bay did it.

  10. You are missing my point.  The point is, right now there are a lot of people posting that Donahoe should be gone.  Without a plan to bring someone better than him in, the Bills are setting themselves up for even worse problems.

    456374

    Pioli?

  11. Was listening to KHTK (after Don and Mike), the idiot Grant Napier was singing the praises of Eli Manning, gave him an A for his performance yesterday, etc.

One thing he did say that caught my interest, is that he mentioned that he had seen Eli play every game, winning one of eight games, playing horribly in his first 5.

I started to think to JP.  This is only his third game.  He hasn't looked that good in the last two.

So, the questions are this.  Are we pannicking too much about JP's performance?  Should we give the kid more time to get his NFL bearings?  Or is the writing on the wall about JP already?

    456181

Good question. First, who are Don and mike? As for Eli, He has performed much better than JP, even if he hasn't been great yet. Second, if Eli was drafted tobe the next Peyton, I think there are legitimate concerns about his improvement. Look at where Peyton was his second season - 13-3. You think the Giants are going to be 13-3?

  12. The problem I have critisizing him is that I dont know what bad moves (other than GW) he made.  Some say drew, I disagree.  Letting go of Pat, Jonas and AW....hard moves, but they werent worth the money (BTW, clement IS...).  The handling of Price Bordered on Genious.  Milloy and Spikes were great additions...McNally is a great coach.  The coaching staff and front office (Modrak) is second to none.  Everything is great...except we arent winning.

    456032

Creating a O-line of Gandy, Anderson, Teague, and Villarial I consider to be a bad move. You can't give him a pass on that. Jeff Posey has done nothing. I think Bledsoe was a bad move, but lets not get into that. Really, his problem has been drafting. Some picks look good - McGee, but he is the only starter that was drafted after the second round (not counting Edwards, because he stinks). The starters he has added to the current roster in five drafts are:

    1st round: 5

    2nd: 2

    3rd: 1

    4th: 1

Nine starters in five drafts won't cut it. To highlight Donahoe's poor drafting, I think the best example is DT. He didn't use a high pick on one, but knowing full well that he was grooming a successor to Phat Pat for years, he couldn't produce one between Edwards (3rd), Bannan (5th), and Anderson (3rd). A good GM would have. And now, many on this board think DT is what we need most in the first round!

It will be just a matter of time and experince before they put it together.

    Good Job Tom D

    456111

The fact of the matter is anyone of us on this board could've done the job Donahoe has done - no playoffs in four seasons. And it's looking like a fifth in a row (despite this post, I am optimistic). And a sixth could be likely if TKO doesn't come back the same, Clements develops Spikes losing syndrome and wantsto go to a winner, and Moulds and the safties countinue to age.

If the GM has done such an outstanding job that you think his roster should be challenging for a playoff spot with a rookie QB in the NFL's toughest division, then how could you possibly even consider the idea of canning the guy if they don't happen to get in?

    456193

Now with J-E-T-S playing God knows who at quarterback and Miami still hard to believe in, can you still call thisthe best division? It might even be the worst division in the AFC.

  13. I admit, I was pretty !@#$in' bewildered (bewildered, now that's a damn fine word, doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves. Comes in very handy when watching the Bills) about that play call. In fact I was pretty !@#$in' bewildered at A LOT of the playcalling yesterday. Willis should have run for over 200 yds yesterday, but it seemed like the coaches were trying to prove to everyone that Losman could win the game with his arm... :(

    455205

They're getting criticized for not running enough and for not taking advantage of the injuries to the Falcons secondary. Which one is it?

In TC defense JS had the first down easy had he not slipped.  Plenty of guys slipped yesterday including JP on the critical 4th and inches, and Willis as he broke his longest run of the day.

That said Lee Evans would have probably been a better candidate to execute that play, but he certainly would have drawed more attention.

    455210

Good point tying the three slips together, but why weren't the Falcons slipping, particularly Vick on that 27-yard-run?

  14. Yeah that series sucked dick. But the D can't have that attitude. They know the deal - they hyped themselves, and 1 drive out of I don't know how many they did a good job. The Offence coulda had a go at the D after that first drive the Falcons had.

    454758

Not to defend the D too much, but they're good at riding momentum. After the TD made it 14-13, they had a 4-and-out and gave the O the ball at the 37. They responded with a 3-and-out, predictably ending on a sack. So, I count two drives. And I think that's really all you can ask of them.

  15. The D is not getting it done.  They need to figure it out, and fast.  On the "plus" side, Gray is going <b>nowhere</b> to be a head coach if they continue to play like this.

    454741

From my seat in the upper deck, I could hear the defense tell the offense, "Do you think you can score from here?" after they handed them the ball at the 35 yard line down down 17-13. When they couldn't, the D decided, if the offense isn't playing, they shouldn't either.
