  1. Your premise makes no sense. The report was that the Bills Old Guard was bashing Polian during the season, and that is what Marrone told Polian. Marrone wasn't bashing Bills management Polian had respect for, they hated Polian. Marrone was ratting them out.

False. His premise is based on the fact that multiple reporters wrote about a conversation had between Polian and Marrone. The OP states that as there were only 2 parties to that conversation and it would not behoove Marrone to reveal such a conversation took place, then Polian, having decided the "heavy lift" was a but too much for him, leaked the Marrone conversation because he was taken aback by how petty Marrone acted.

  2. For the love of all things holy and my health can you please delete this. I cant handle the potential jinx. I have three days to get through and not enough liquid courage to get me through. I beg of you.

    !@#$ no he didn't declare

So... looks like the championship is on lockdown with this kid then?:devil:

  3. It's likely Marrone had a power play in mind at some point during the season. In light of that, what do you think he would have done differently had he been an actual coach looking to develop young talent for the future? Specifically I'm thinking about:

1- Healthy scratches for Goodwin, Koundijo, Bryce Brown and Wiliams

2- Stubbornly refusing to try Koundijo at G

3- Not playing EJ in a meaningless finale to see if he had progressed

The idea with this thread is not to bash Marrone yet again, it's to see if you guys think the above players actually have more talent than indicated by the coach's lack of confidence in them. What do you think?

  4. Even if you think he's a decent HC, Marrone showed his true colors with the classless way he left: burning bridges and badmouthing the team to Polian. If you were a team owner, would you want to hire someone who is likely to try and blow things up when he leaves?

Note to NFL owners, learn from a basic relationship premise: "if she left him to be with you, she'll leave you for the next guy."

  5. I would imagine that Hughes hates Marrone, who yelled at him "Do you want to be on this team?!" during the preseason (although it was over something fairly dumb). But who didn't even know he was not on the field and kept him off it for an entire half in one of the biggest games of the year.

+1. Utah please explain why a player who has reason to dislike a coach would then follow him?

  6. Yoli. Ill say it again in this post for all Marrones faults ( and they are many) Whaley has not done a good job personnel wise. I think the blame is distributed throughout the org. Brandon, Nix, Whaley picking Marrone as HC, then drafting EJ. Then the weak offseason moves that reek of "Moneyball". Then the stupid trade up.

Want a banner for that crusade?

  7. I find it fascinating how organizations (and fans) think. A few questions to clarify what I mean:

    1. If you're the Vikings, would you trade Bridgewater for Sammy? I think we all agree that the answer is "of course not."

    2. Some fans bemoan the trading up to draft Sammy rather than taking a QB with our initial pick, or even trading down to take a QB later. The same fans agree that Sammy had a very good rookie season (particularly given the fact that he didn't exactly have great QB play feeding him), and that his star is on the rise. Yet they never consider trading Sammy for what we need more: a QB, or the chance to draft a QB.

This is what economists call the "endowment effect." You tend to overvalue what you have, and undervalue what you could get.

This is something some great sports GMs like Billy Beane do not run afoul of. Think you need a pitcher to finally make it to a World Series? Go get Lester and Samardzija! That doesn't work? Let Lester go, trade Samardzija, reload with some other players! If you want a QB now your best trade chip is Sammy and it's not even close. So at least consider it ... all you'd be doing is a classic Billy Beane transaction: you traded up to try to get it done in 2014, you came close, but didn't make it. Now you're stuck with no first round pick in 2015? Simply undo that by trading Sammy. No harm done. But it takes guts, which most GMs lack.

Are you TRYING to start the year off with the worst post of 2015? It's ambitious, but I think you've legitimately got a shot!

  8. They knew.

    And who cares.

EJ had no business playing the finale---here's why. If he wins and plays well it could lead to a false sense of complacent optimism from the front office bc it would have been in a game you didn't get the Pats best. And 2 if he stunk, in that situation, it could completely ruin him.

Exactly. The FO was screwed either way if he played. If he wins- why was he sitting all year, he beat the Pats; if he loses - There is no hope at the QB position. Now they can try and sell us the line that he improved so much sitting under Orton that he is destined for greatness... if they can't sign or draft anyone else.

  9. One off negative Nancy-ism. That's all this OP has given us with the post. Let's just not mention Seantrel Henderson, a 7th round pick playing more like a 2nd rounder. What about Kyle Williams, a pro-bowler, selected in the 5th round? What about Preston Brown, a starter and also just a 3rd round pick? Most of the roster is 1st and 2nd round picks, which I wouldn't have assumed would be the case, but to focus on one guy is myopic.

Myopic would be your choice to berate the OP for asking a legitimate question. Perhaps he was looking for an answer rather than a diss on his question.

Urbick was benched for Richardson, an inferior player. Hairston, a decent tackle, was kept on the bench while Henderson struggled badly. Last year the coaches delayed replacing what may have been the worst guard in the league for half the season. Spiller, an extraordinary player under Chan, was mediocre under Hackett and Marrone, who also arguably did not use Watkins effectively, either (especially when I see how the Giants use Odell). My point is that there's good reason to suppose these coaches do not know how to work with players, so maybe Cujo--and EJ for that matter--might be better than is generally supposed.

THIS. I find it worrisome that the coaching staff made our 2nd rounder sit on the bench and gain zero game experience all year.

  10. I think they will let Pears, Rivers, Lawson, and Spikes walk. That frees up another $10 mil., and they are projected to have $17 m available in cap space prior to those moves. They'll need to sign Searcy, Bryant, Wynn, Easely, Hogan, and Hairston. That'll probably cost them around $4mil above their current salaries. Hughes has a $4mil hit this year, so what will it take to sign him? Another $5mil? That leaves a lot of space to sign some other FAs. I assume Iupati would cost about $7-8 mil?

Could we PLEASE add Chris Williams to that list?
