1. I don't think the Bills keep both of them. Which one is the better choice to keep? London is older but still playing at a high level. But he has Drew Rosenhaus for an agent. Could Spikes slide inside if Fletcher leaves? That would give us Crowell-Spikes-Ellison at LB. Could we find a suitable replacement for Nate? He's good, but I don't consider him a real shut-down corner. Should the Bills overpay him to stay? If you're Marv which one do you keep?

  2. Oh, so they're going to move the team because 73,000 people show up this Sunday instead of 75,000 people? The Bills are not going anywhere for decades unless Ralph sells them to someone who wants to move the team, which isn't going to happen.

I hope you are right, but there seems to be a lack of concern from you locals that the team could move. Why do you think RW is complaining so much about the new CBA?Because it puts the small market teams at an even bigger financial disadvantage that's why. He's a good owner and doesn't want to move, but he's concerned about the future of pro football in WNY.And he won't be around forever. A small market in an economically depressed area that can't consistently sell out. That's not a real secure franchise, and that's why Buffalo's name keeps coming up in these moving discussions. Fill up the stadium for every game and you can make sure pro football will always be in WNY.

  3. Ko Simpson....

3 of those players carried a 1st round flag in Whitner, McCargo, Yobuty

Witner, McCargo, and Yobuty were all projected 1st round picks.....Ko Simpson was a 2nd round projection

Daunte Witner - top rated S in the draft according to this rag.  In their Mock Draft he was projected to go 19th to the Chargers listed as a "Ball Hawking safety with All Pro potential"

Writeup:  Instinctive ball hawk with great closing speed...always around the ball....good strenghth for his size and physical....has a great passion for the game....makes quick reads....intellegent....makes big plays.....could play corner....good hitter and open field tackler...plays with great confidence and has a swagger.....compares to Mike Doss and Mike Minter....only negative they talk about is his size.....

Ko Simpson (5th rated safety) productive...plays the cutback well....can run with the slot.....gets his hands on a lot of balls.....can play both safety positions....good special teams player.....much upside

Ashton Youboty (4th rated corner) big strong physical.....tough...athletic....strong tackler.....quick to support the run.....would have been a top 15 pick if he went back to school....compares to corner back Chris Gamble.....

John McCargo....great athletic ability and ability to close....very disruptive....plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage....great lateral quickness....nice swim move.....quick and gets penetration....active hands and uses them well to shed....flashes ability to dominate.....humble hardworking and classroom smart

One guy to also watch out for out of this draft is DT Kyle Williams.....this guy plays a lot better then his measurables.....his writeup:

9th rated DT....quick off the ball, exposive and naturally strong....imposes his will on his competition.....plays to the whistle......tough....extremely strong in both lower and upper body....vocal leader.....plays through pain.....outstanding work habits....

Kyle Williams sounds like a friggen anchor to me......

Good post. I think time will show that Levy had a damn good draft. If everybody here did the research you have, they might wake up and stop bitching so much.

  4. Whenever the subject of a possible move by the Bills comes up,WNY politicians seem to take alot of blame. I live in CA so I'm really ignorant of what goes on there politically. What is it that these politicians have done,or continue to do,that has so hurt the area economy? I have always been under the impression that you guys have had a manufacturing based economy and as these jobs have moved overseas, where they pay pennies to our dollars, the area has suffered. Maybe there's more to it? Not trying to start a fight here, just wondering what these guys do that gets some so angry.

  5. Late pickup with limited playing time, but I thought he was at least as good as the other backups on the roster. Dunno if I ever see him as a starter, but he should challenge for PT in the rotation at tackle.

    649641

It would be great if he could develop into a solid,2-down run stopper. It may be wishful thinking, but reading his write-ups in the draft guides it really sounds like it's possible.

  6. The problem w/Adams is he's just a selfish player. If things don't go the way Sam wants,he whines and pouts and comes up "injured". He pulled the same crap when he was out here in Oakland. We will be better off without him. You need to build a TEAM,not just assemble talent. I think Marv understands that.

  7. I live on the West Coast and don't have a dish,so I don't get to see as many Bills games as I would like. The Bills need a stout, run stopping DT and they have a kid named Jason Jefferson on the roster. I remember him playing pretty damn good in college,so I looked him up in my draft guides from last year. 3 out of 4 draft publications I have rated him as a very good run stopper. He sounds like he may develop into just what we're looking for. I have not seen this dude play for the Bills. For those of you who are able to catch every game, how does he look? Is it possible we already have more depth than we realize on this D-line?

  8. A guy I like as a possible mid or later round pick-up is that Peko kid from Michigan State. I watched him play a few times this past season and he impressed me. He's a load to move in the middle of the d-line and may have the potential to play both a 1 gap and 2 gap style.

  9. More message board chatter on Grady.  If not Bennie Anderson, then the spittn' image of Sam Adams (and not in a good way, IMO).

    632299

I can tell you he's not at all like Sam Adams. Grady will play the 2-gap and stuff the run. He can also rush the passer a bit. He's more similar to Ted Washington than he is to Adams. He's not worth what he's asking for,but I would bring him in and make an offer.

  10. You get what you pay for.  Bennie Anderson, redux, IMO.

    632231

I've kind of followed him since he was with the Raiders and always thought he was pretty good. I figure he was replaced in GB cuz of his age. Haven't heard about any major injuries and think he could have a few good years left.

  11. That's all we've had is young up and comers.  The problem is that they've all down and went.

    586898

The proper place for a younger coach,on this team, is as a coordinator under an experienced HC. Our recent problem has been inexperienced HC's. What if Bates and Jauron just aren't always on the same page? Then what? You have 2 55+ coaches, set in their ways, with at least 40 years of coaching experience pulling the D in different directions. Unless Jauron and Bates met and really hit it off and were completely on the same page,I would rather take the younger coach.Jauron is a very competent defensive coach, let the DC defer to him. If the interview went that well, money wouldn't be the issue to Bates and he'd already be here.

  12. I disagree with the comments on Sam not wanting to take up two defenders...  At NT you don't just sit there and get blocked.. He is excellent at shooting the gaps which is all he needs to do most of the time-  if eating up two blockers is the primary concern then sam is the man.  When you watch Casey Hampton play NT he gets up field and wrecks havoc as he penetrates a gap.  It is the play call on defense which dictates which gap.  Now for the De's containing the edge...  I have unlimited confidence that Schobel can do what he needs to and be very succesfull at whatever the Bills ask of him.  I also think that Ryan Denney would be a nice LE in a 3/4 scheme.  But if we drafted a Tamba Hali.  Now we would have the necessary men to fill out a solid 3/4 D line.  He is very powerful and large enough to contain the erdge, while quick enough to coolapse the pocket in passing situations.  I think that something is brewing at One Bills drive and it seems to make sense that if changes are immenent this could be an easy transition for our quick defense.

    586856

I have not watched Hampton enough to comment on his play, but I think that any 3-4 defense needs the NT to play in a 2 gap style at least some of the time. There's more to it than just taking up 2 blockers. The NT must take responsibility for 2 gaps not just 1. This takes away his ability to choose a gap and shoot to the backfeild. Adams has refused to play a 2 gap style in the past.

  13. Of course, because Jauron fielded such a dominating defense in Jacksonville. Bates has proven himself on the Dolphins and Packers. Jauron...less impressive.

    586834

Jaurons defensive coaching for the Jags is what got him the Chicago HC job. As I remember, they were pretty strong on D. I know Bates is a competent DC,but I don't know that he's fielded any truly dominating defenses. You people are making Bates sound like he's the second coming of Vince Lombardi.

  14. I'f I'm RW there's no way I pay Bates 1 million plus to be my DC. We just hired a HC who's expertise is in defense. Jauron should have final call on all defensive decisions. I would rather have a younger,up and comer working with Jauron. A guy with Bates years of experience is bound to have strong ideas of his own which may not mesh with Jaurons. Unless Jauron and Bates had a strong, previous working relationship, like say Cowher and Lebeau,I just don't see it working.

  15. 1. I hear every now and then from media "experts" and also knowledgeable TBD fans how Losman has fundamental problems with accuracy that suggest he will be an NFL failure. Can any of you who know a lot about this and have been watching Losman closely elaborate?

Personally, I think his lack of self-confidence (which Coach Meathead and the Bills vets didn't help) is his biggest problem, and the errant passes are simply the consequence of his low football self-esteem. He never had an accuracy problem at Tulane, did he?

Actually most draft reports listed accuracy, especially on short routes,as one of Losmans weaknesses. I always buy several different draft publications every year and some of them made him sound alot like Rob Johnson at the time. I wouldn't compare him to RJ,but I do think he's similar to a bigger Doug Flutie with a much stronger arm. And I mean that as a positive. If an offense is designed around his strengths,I think he could flourish.

  16. ...towards Jauron. Everyone seems to have wanted Sherman, but Jauron is a quality coach. When I read it was coming down to Jauron and Sherman I was happy cuz I would've been happy with either one. Look,Sherman is a decent HC but he has his flaws. His playoff record is awful and I don't recall his defenses as being real scary. Some say he just rode out the sucsess that Favre and Holmgren built. If he would've been hired I would have been concerned about our D. Jauron also has his faults, but to me they are no bigger than Shermans. With Jauron I expect a calm, experienced HC who will put together a dominant defense. No more rookie HC's that look lost as soon as things get tough. Jauron has HC experience, and I expect him to really improve the way Belichik,Shanahan and Marv Levy did in their second shot at being a HC. He needs to hire a good OC who will RUN THE BALL and help develop JP. We already have a very good offensive mind on the staff in Sam Wyche I hope he stays. I believe Jauron will turn out to be an excellent hire. That is,of course,if he actually IS our new HC.

  17. Adams problem is he's not a team player. Because of the FA departure of Pat Williams,Adams is being asked to play more of a 2 gap style and stop the run. That's not his style, even though he has the size and strength to do so. So instead of going out and doing his best for the team he chooses to pout and fight with the coaches. To answer your question, yeah he would be effective again if they get another badass at DT. But I hope he's shown the door.
