  1. "Cash to cap" is an accounting concept, nothing more. Essentially, all it means is the Bills will no longer use "future" cap space to pay for players now.

As we saw under the "old" system, that kind of accounting carries its own pros and cons, and can financially hinder a team in the long run.

IIRC, the Bills were not the only team switching to that type of accounting.

Older veteran players are still being cast off other teams. The Bills had those types of players, but the FO got rid of them. Fletcher-Baker ring a bell?

And Jauron is responsible. It was his decision to get rid of them.

You want different DEs. Go ask Jauron why we still have these guys. After 3 years, he must like them. Heck, they gave Kelsay a new contract.

We are year 3 into a rebuild. For all intents and purposes, these guys are here because Jauron wanted/is satisfied with them being here.

    This is "Jauron's" team.

Look it, like it, love it.

We seem to agree that the FO is responsible for the lack of depth on this team. Where we differ is who's making those calls. I say it's Wilson not wanting to bring in these vets that may help cuz he doesn't want to spend the money. We have a pretty good first string, but no depth. Donnie Spragen is the kind of vet that could add needed depth, but he was let go. My opinion is that money was the issue there, not ability, and that's Wilsons call not Jaurons. If money wasn't an issue I'd think you'd see guys like KJB,Joe Horn, etc. brought in at least for a look. Maybe they could help, maybe not,but they're not even considered because RW won't spend the money. Jauron can only coach the players the FO will sign. Just my opinion.

  2. Who decided to go with that 2nd year QB as his starter?

That's nice. Crowell is on IR, and has not played a regular season game this year. If you are referring to Ellison, yes, he is a back up.

As for your complaint the Bills lack depth, why don't you ask yourself who is responsible for that? I'll give you a hint. His initials are DJ.

DJ is not a cheerleader, but he is certainly a HC. His job description does include player motivation, which this team lacks.

See above. Player motivation is the responsibility of the coaching staff. If the players do not feel compelled to go out on the field and play to their potential, it is the coaches job to figure out away to convince the players to do so.

I believe the lack of depth is a result of RW's "cash to the cap" philosophy. This teams roster seems paper thin to me,and they don't sign many quality backups. A veteran LB,WR and some different DE's would be nice and I'm not sure that's Jaurons fault. I think back to the super bowl years when depth was a strength and guys like Art Still and James Lofton were brought in after being cast off by other teams.
  3. Buffalo starts a second year quarterback that won't throw a pass longer than 20 yards. That quarterback has to throw from the shot gun. He doesn't throw passes under center and can't run play action because Buffalo also starts a center who gets ABUSED by 3-4 defenses. Their most reliable receiver has been injured, and as of last night their number two receiver is a rookie seventh rounder.

I find it hilarious that people here think they can evaluate the TEAM by analyzing the sideline cams of our coach. This "playing not to lose" rhetoric is also hysterical. We blitz on defense, sometimes effectively. The linebacker corps has a HUGE drop off after KMitch and Poz, Crowell should be the first backup. The same can be said about the dropoff at DLine after Schobel, and like Crowell, Kelsay should be a backup. The defense is not the problem and takes its shots. There are no signs that the defense has employed this stupid "not-to-lose" philosophy.

Dick Jauron is not the problem. And before you piss your pants and start firing non-substantiated "feelings" at me, please consider the scheme YOU'D develop around the crippling weaknesses we have at QB, C, LB, WR, and DE. Those are the areas where our players are just poor. On top of that, we're getting mediocre play from our DT's, G's, S's, and TE's to boot. It's not Jauron's job to be a cheerleader. It's the players' job to execute.

It amazes me that folks here profess to know the gameplan, profess to know the plays called by the sidelines, profess to know the audibles called by Edwards, profess to see the downfield routes that are and aren't being targetted, and profess to know the in and outs of our deepening personnel issues. Just because you don't see emotion from Jauron from network footage and press conferences, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And if you're blaming him for what you might perceive as emotionless play from the team last night, that's absurd. If you can't get up for a Monday Night home game, that's your own personal problem, and there's nothing a coach can do for you.

You make a lot of good points. This team has glaring weaknesses at DE and C. Overall the roster lacks depth,so you can't overcome injuries the way a good team needs to. We shouldn't expect Jauron to make chicken soup out of chicken sh--.

  4. I can't remember ever seeing a QB start the season so strong and then completely fall apart the way TE has. The concussion must be having some effect. I think he needs to sit for awhile. Losman has shown he's not the long term answer but I think it would do TE some good to just sit and watch for a couple of games. Give him a little time to regroup, have some good practices and regain his confidence. I think for TE's long term success, the best thing is to sit him for now.

  5. With the way Michigan has played this year I'd be lying if I said I thought they had a real shot at an upset. But this is college football and strange things happen. You are right, this game is a lot more fun when both teams are good. But no matter what I'll be rooting with all my heart for the Wolverines. Michigan 23 Ohio St. 19 GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Worse than Center and or Guard???????

While I agree DE is an area of "need" on the Bills, it is far FAR outshadowed by our need of if not good at least a passible guard or center.

    Just my opinion of course

I believe if we had a dominant pass rusher at DE we would have a outstanding D. That would make Schobel the "2nd" DE where he wouldn't have as much attention paid to him by opposing o-lines. He'd be great in that role.Or even if we had 2 or 3 guys the caliber of Schobel, where you could rotate them in and move them around. When Schobel is, by far, your best pass rushing end your in trouble. Schobel isn't as good as some think,Kelsay isn't as bad as some think, and the rest of our DE's probably don't make the roster of a good defensive team. I agree that C is a definite need on this team. I guess I'm just more of a defensive guy so that's where my opinion comes from.

  7. And then todd and the other girls will spew their venom on you, too. Get yer raincoat.

The "girls" are all the Negative Nancys that cry,wet their panties, and start turning on their team and fellow fans whenever the going gets a little tough. There is legitimate critisizm to be aimed at some aspects of this team, but for the most part that's not what I'm reading in this thread.

  8. So everyone is planning on the Bills losing, but whine like a bunch of wussies when they DO lose. There's plenty of time left in the season, and if you can take off your idiot blinders, the Bills didn't play too bad considering injuries and playing against NE, in NE, and who have historically benefited from excellent calls from the refs. (as and aside, how many holding penalties were called on NE? none? hmm.)

The Bills aren't out of the playoff hunt, but you friggin idiots are whining. THIS is when the Bills circle the wagons. This is when the bills fans rally around the team. This is when fans show that they are REAL fans.

Beyond this rant, if you don't think your 2nd year QB will go through growing pains, I don't know what to say. Your expectations aren't realistic. It is time you take Edwards' work as a whole, and not pretend that you can't remember the 4th quarter comebacks earlier this year. I can't believe that there are actually idiots calling for JP to be put in. Yes, Bills fans, some of us are that stupid.

Well said. The whining and negativity on this board is unbelievable at times.

  9. I agree DF got screwed out of the Titans playoff game. But that does not refute the fact DF had been unable to retain the starting job on 4 different teams.

Ask yourself why that kept happening. Explore the possibilities.

I think when you have the physical limitations (height, arm strength) that DF had, teams were always looking to replace him regardless of on-field results. I really don't know the details of his situations on his other teams, but I believe that was definitely the case with the Bills. Honestly though,I am somewhat biased toward him on that point being a short guy myself.

  10. People really need to get over this concept. He has been given plenty of shots, on 4 different teams. His problem was he was never good enough to keep it.

Flutie was the better QB when he was in Buffalo. RJ was aquired and given the starting job based on a few good games in Jacksonville and his measurables. That was a mistake. Flutie got screwed. Just my opinion.

  11. It's always interesting to me to see the strong reactions people have whenever Fluties name comes up. What exactly has he done that make some dislike him so much? I think he was a great college player who never was really given a fair shot in the NFL due to his size. I like listening to him on ESPN,he always has some good insights on the college game. He doesn't come across as an a-hole. I have a buddy who's a Titans fan and he loves to remind me to thank Wade for starting RJ in that playoff game. I do think the Bills were a better team with Flutie at QB.

  12. What exactly is playing the Phil Hansen role? Kelsay is in no way capable of playing Hansen's role whilst with the Bills. Have a look back to I think 1995. Hansen had 10 sacks and was 2nd or so on the team in tackles FWIW. Hansen was good against the run and could swing from outside to inside. He may never have scared anyone, but he kept them honest. I'd take that now. There's no way with the guys we have that we can play a 3-4. We have guys who just can't get to the quarterback from the 4-3. If Schobel is way over-rated, then there is no way that Kelsay is OK unless he's "way over-rated".

I think Kelsay would be adequate if he was lined up opposite a dominant pass rushing end. That's all I'm saying. Schobel is somewhat better than Kelsay, but I've never been a fan of his either. Actually I guess Schobel is more similar to Hansen, fine as a #2 DE,but not a guy anybody has to scheme around. Your DE's are a weak spot when Schobel is your best pass rusher.

  13. The Bills will stand pat and NEXT YEAR that pass rush will be "awesome" with Stroud next to a healthy Schobel. Kelsay with another year of experience. Denney older. McCargo trying more than 10% of the time, blah, blah, blah....

How is it that the Giants lose Strahan to retirement and Umenyiora to injury in the preseason and they are still dominate(2nd in the league in sacks)? Either our DL talent is SEVERELY overrated and/or our defensive coaches are sub-par.

The Giants do it with quality depth on the D line. We have no talent at the DE position. Schobel and Kelsay would be back-ups at best on the Giants.

  14. The Bills have needed a quality pash rushing DE for several years. I've thought so and so have lots of other posters here. I just don't get why that need is never addressed. Schobel is decent, but way over-rated,Kelsay is OK as long as he's playing the Phil Hansen role and the rest of our DE's are garbage. The FO should be looking at every option to improve the DE position.

  15. UB after they lose Turner?

Edit: Yes, I realize UB is not 1-AA, but if I understand their position, UB has no intentions of competing with the big buys (ala Penn St., Syracuse, etc ...) as they are more focused on the academics.

Yeah, that might be a nice fit.I could see him going to a program like that and staying a long time. It just seems like he fits the smaller, more academic enviroment better than the big football schools.

  16. The guy is a mystery to me also. He did a real good job at Stanford. That's a tough place to win because of the academic standards. He ran a clean program and took them to a Rose Bowl. I thought he got a raw deal at ND,but looking at his record since, maybe not. I know a kid that played for him at Washington and he had nothing but good things to say about him as a coach and a man. The only criticism I've ever heard of him is he takes himself really serious, maybe needs to loosen up just a bit. I'd like to see him get another shot somewhere, maybe a smaller program. He seems like the kind of coach that may do well at an academic 1-AA program.

  17. Wow, so much for BYU's chances at ruining the BCS. Now the BCS commitee is hoping that BYU beats Utah.

As for the rest of Week 8 what does everyone think about the big games? I know that my Wolverines will get taken to the woodshed by JoePa & Company, so I wo'nt even bring that game up. But here is what we have to look forward too.

Texas Vs. Missouri: Can the Longhorns avoid the letdown after their big upset last week, or will the Tigers rebound and play spoiler themselves?

Michigan State Vs. Ohio State: Winner will have an inside track in the Big 10 race with Penn State.

Oklahoma Vs. Kansas: Sooners are at home and will be looking for redemption. The Jayhawks also need to show that they are serious contenders. Can the Sooners be upset in back-to-back weeks?

Georgia Vs. Vanderbilt: If the Commodores want to prove they are no fluke this is the place to do it, but the Dawgs may be too much.

Alabama Vs. Mississippi: Crimson Tide, back after a week off, will have to be cautious of Ole Miss. After all the Rebels did win in Gainesville, can they do the same in Tuscaloosa?

As much as I'd love to see the Wolverines upset Penn St.,I just don't see it happening. But it is a conference game and strange things happen sometimes (Ore.St. vs USC). It'on tv in my area,so I'll put on my lucky hat and be watching. As far as some of the other games, I see Texas,OSU,Oklahoma,Georgia and Alabama winning. But look,I've just picked all the favorites, and there's bound to be at least 1 upset here. So why not Michigan? GO BLUE!!!!
