1. For me, I am just excited that football is about to start again.

The greatest sport in this country unfortunately also happens to be the shortest.

I have said this before and I'll say it again; Football is my Saturday passion and my Sunday obsession.

I welcome this new season with open arms.

Now how I feel about the Bills this season is optimistic. I am very excited to see how our rookies wil do. I want to see what Dick Jauron can do for this team. I want to see who will step up at QB. If TKO can come back at 100%.

I trust Marv Levy and hope that as a GM he can bring us back to the promised land.

I do'nt think it'll be this year though. We won't be the best team in the NFL, but we won't be the worst either. I project a 7-9 or 8-8 season.

But I'll be cheering with all my heart and soul for the Bills to win every single game this year.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. No Lonnie Friggin Johnson Green Bay catch/hit, but at least it ended on LT's knee meeting with Joe Theisman's shin.

By the way, Wacka - Bebee "fumbled" on that play. That was the "icing" on the cake for that play - and the day. He was O.U.T. out and for a scary several minutes looked for all the world that he'd never be able to walk again  :P

    726764

We all remember that hit on Bebee. Amazing that he landed squarely dead center on his head.

What's even more amazing is that he came back and played in that game.

    Damn Ronnie Harmon. :D

  3. It just now dawned on me that we are only 2 weeks away from training camp, and only 4 weeks away from the Bills first preseason game.

Very soon football will be back in our lives again, and all will be right with the world.

Since we are so close to the start of a brand new season, I wanted to get all of your opinions of who you think is on the hot seat for the Bills this year.

Here are my position-by-position look at the players who will really have to step up.

QB: J.P. Losman. This is the most obvious player. He will be watched more intently than any other player on the team. I believe that Losman can overcome his bad season and become the QB the Bills need him to be. Losman's biggest problem seems to be that he does not have the intangibles a QB needs. He has the arm strength, and athleticism to be a good QB. Now he needs to come up with the quick decision making, show leadership, and learn how to take control of the offense. If he does that, he could become a great QB. But we shall have to wait and see.

RB: Shaud Williams. With the signing of Anthony Thomas and possibly more playing time of Lionel Gates, Williams will have his work cut out for him. He will have to prove that he can be more than a 3rd down back.

FB: Daimon Shelton. Shelton has all the tools to stick with the team. The only thing he has going against him is his age(33). Unless Goldsberry or Ming do'nt stand out, Shelton will more likely stay.

OL: This is a mostly new unit, so it is difficult to find someone who's position as a starter is in jeopardy.

TE: Kevin Everett. I know he is only in his 2nd year, and he has yet to play a down, but with the signing of Robert Royal, and the high praise of Brad Cieslak can Everett climb is way to the top?

WR: Lee Evans. I only put Evans here, because he is now going to be THE #1 WR on the team. Will he be able to excel at this spot a whole season? I believe he will, but still we have to wait and see.

DT: Tim Anderson. He's a starter now, but that is mostly by default. With Larry Triplett filling one side and John McCargo ready to jump in and take over, Anderson will have much to prove.

DE: Chris Kelsay. This is a huge year for Kelsay. He benefits from the Bills not having a big back-up at DE. Kelsay has not lived up to expectations and will have to show that he belongs on this team.

LB: Takeo Spikes. For obvious reasons.

Jeff Posey. Can he benefit in the new cover 2?

CB: Nate Clements: Can "The Playmaker", justify his big one year salary?

S: Coy Wire: The drafting of Whitner & back-up Rob Lee, might make things too crowded for Wire.

Rashad Baker: Again, things look crowded with Jim Leonhard & Ko Simpson on the depth chart.

Alright, that is how I see it. What say you?

      QUOTE(tgreg99 @ Jul 8 2006, 08:31 PM)

I saw POTC:DMC, definitely better than Superman. I'm slightly biased with the Pirates franchise, so I liked it more than most. It was a touch too long and slow to pick up steam, but I found it funny and very much an echo of Empire Strikes Back (in a good way). Just like Empire, the film feels like the middle act of a play rather than a stand-alone movie.

Also, if you were luke warm about the original movie, then this one won't do much for you. However, if you dug the first one, then you'll be happy with the sequel.

Hmmmm....interesting way to look at it. I guess I was just expecting them to wrap up more stuff but now I see why they didn't. I really liked the first one because there was a lot of Captain Jack Sparrow in it. This one didn't seem to have as much of him in it. Guess I just missed that from the first one.

I saw POTC:DMC and I did like it. It probably could have been a bit shorter. The first half of the movie seemed a bit sluggish, but when they get to Davy Jones it really picked up. That swordfight on the mill was crazy. I loved the way they set it up for the 3rd movie, the sold out audience I saw it with went crazy with the ending.

I somewhat disagree with you tgreg on it being better than Superman. I really enjoyed Superman Returns. I loved the opening credits, Brandon Routh was very good, Kevin Spacey was great, and I must admit Kate Bosworth played a good Lois Lane. I thought it played out very well. Just my opinion.

  5. "Its TIME....It's VADERR TIME!!!"

Thanks for that, as always, Mark.....I'm actually really excited for some of those Indies you mentioned!  Specifically, "The OH in Ohio", "Once in a Lifetime" and "Little Miss Sunshine"......I need to keep an eye on all three of those. Some nice offerings on the mainstream list, too.....good work!!

    717611

You're welcome aj. I have heard that "Little Miss Sunshine" is a very funny movie, and I look forward to seeing it.

Love your avatar, I still have not heard any progress on Bubba Nosferatu yet. I hope they make it.

  6. While Superman attempts to leap box office records in a single bound, the month of July rolls in to add more excitement to the summer season.

Leading that charge is "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". When Disney announced several years ago that they would be making movies based on their theme park attractions, they never dreamed of the success that one of them would make. After the days of Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn, pirate movies were box office poison. In 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean broke that curse. Grossing over 300 million, bringing Keira Knightley to the forefront, and getting one of the best performances out of Johnny Depp, Disney struck gold.

Now, Captain Jack Sparrow and company are back for the first of two sequels. Keira Knightley & Orlando Bloom are back for the ride too.

This time out Jack Sparrow finds that he has a debt to pay to the infamous pirate, Davy Jones and his army of sea-phantoms. Needless to say there will be plenty of cannons going off, lots of swordplay, and special effects to spare. No doubt there will be plenty of fun to be had. The big question, can the sequel outgross the first film?

Also returning to the summer is filmmaker M.Night Shyamalan, with his latest movie, "Lady in the Water". This story concerns an apartment building superintendent(Paul Giamatti) who discovers a woman(Bryce Dallas Howard) in the swimming pool, who apparently is from another world. As usual Shymalan's movie has a tight lid on it, and has an unusual fantasy feel.

Columbia Pictures & Amblin Entertainment team up for the CG animated "Monster House". Using the same animation style for The Polar Express, this movie is about 3 kids who discover that the house across the street is actually a living, breathing, monster. Steve Buscemi, Jon Heder, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Jason Lee lend their voice talents.

Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey, Jr., Winona Ryder, and Woody Harrelson, star in the long delayed "A Scanner Darkly". Based on a Philip K. Dick novel, and directed by Richard Linklater, this story involves an undercover cop who is hooked on the drug, Substance D. A drug that which causes it's users to develop split personalities. Can this cop bust the drug dealer who also happens to be himself?

Like the movie Waking Life, this film was shot with live action and then animated over.

A pair of different romantic comedies are coming soon starring the Wilson bros.

In "You, Me, and Dupree", newlyweds Kate Hudson & Matt Dillon allow "best man" Owen Wilson to come stay with them until he can land on his feet. When that will happen is unknown.

In "My Super Ex-Girlfriend", Luke Wilson discovers that hell hath no fury like a super-woman scorned. After he dumps his all-to-needy girlfriend(Uma Thurman), it is revealed to him that she is also the famous super heroine "G-Girl". This movie will show to everyone why women do not need superpowers. Anna Faris co-stars, and directed by Ivan Reitman.

Director Kevin Smith is back with "Clerks II". It is 12 years since the first Clerks film and Dante & Randal still have the same jobs. That is until their companies are forced to close. Forcing them to work at "Mooby's". Rosario Dawson, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes & Kevin Smith co-star.

Diector Michael Mann brings his 80's tv show "Miami Vice" to the big screen. Colin Farrell is Crockett & Jamie Foxx is Tubbs.

From the creators of Jimmy Neutron comes "The Ant Bully". The story of Lucas Nickle whom after flooding the ant hill with his water gun, is shrunk down to ant-size and learns what life as an ant is all about.

Keenan, Shawn, & Marlon Wayans bring us "Little Man". In this a wannabe dad mistakes a baby faced-vertically challenged criminal on the lam as hi newly adopted son. Can you say Golden Raspberry.

Finally, director Betty Thomas brings us "John Tucker Must Die". The story of 3 girls all dating the same guy in high school, plot together to ruin his life.

    Independant movie watch:

I have'nt posted much on any indies lately, but this month there is a wide variety of some potentially very good ones. Here is what is to com on the independant circuit.

"The OH in Ohio", stars Parker Posey and Paul Rudd play a married couple who have everything they want out of life, except in their bedroom. Danny DeVito, Mischa Barton, & Liza Minnelli co-star.

ESPN moves to the big screen with it's soccer documentary "Once in a Lifetime". Following the rise and fall of the 1970's soccer team, the New York Cosmos.

A big hit from the Sundance Festival is the comedy "Little Miss Sunshine". Steve Carell, Alan Arkin, Toni Collette, & Greg Kinnear are a family of 4 taking a cross country trip in their VW Bus, in order to get their little girl Olive(Abigail Breslin) into the finals of a beauty pageant.

Another festival fave, this time from Toronto, comes "Brothers of the Head". In the 1970's a music promoter turns conjoined twins Tom & Barry Howe into a proto-punk rock band.

And Woody Allen delivers his latest film "Scoop". Taking place in Britain again, Scarlett Johansson plays an american journalist student who scoops a big story, and begins an affair with an aristocrat(Hugh Jackman) as the incident unfurls.

  7. The "Announcement Trailer" is up.

    http://www.transformersmovie.com/

I think I saw a Transformer in there somewhere.  On Mars.  For some reason.

Also, they make a point of letting you know it's "A Michael Bay Film."  I have no idea why, you'd think they'd want to hide that fact.

    716351

It's a pretty good teaser, although it is'nt super exciting. I sincerely hope that they are not trying to imply that the Transformers are from Mars. That would suck.

Having the autobot symbol in there was cool, but they should have added the decepticon symbol in there too. After all(and I am a decepticon fan) we all know the decepticons are cooler.

I am surprised that they put the emphasis on it being a Michael Bay film and not have any mention of Steven Spielberg.

Oh well, I have to remember that this is a teaser for a movie that does not come out for a year. So expectations should not be that high.

We'll just have to wait until November or December when the next trailer is released.

  8. OMG!!!!!

Is that the eye of Megatron?

Starring: Jon Voigt, Michael Clarke Duncan, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Bernie Mac, Josh Duhamel, & Meagan Fox

Michael Bay Director  Steven Spielberg Executive Producer ;)

Teaser debuts online on July 4, in theatres with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

I know, I know. I'm making a big deal about a poster, but if you love Transformers like I do, then you know how I feel.

    This movie will !@#$!ng rock!!!!!

  9. Everyone's so harsh towards Holcomb based on that one play.  But bear in mind the following:

    1. The coaching staff called a poor play that time.  Roscoe "this is my first game back" Parrish was the primary target on this ill-conceived play.  Eric Moulds was to be a decoy, and wasn't asked to run anywhere near the line of scrimmage.  The Bills got majorly outcoached on this play.

    2. More importantly, 4th and 7 should have been 1st and 10--and would have been had it not been for a questionable officiating decision.  Take away the offensive pass interference penalty on Eric Moulds, and you're looking at first and 10 deep in Patriots territory, with a chance to actually win a game against that crew.

    3. Yes, that 4th down play mattered.  But it mattered because the Bills were still in the game, late in the 4th quarter, against the Patriots, in Gillette Stadium.  Don't you think that says something positive about Holcomb?  The 2005 Bills--a team with no defense, no offensive line, inconsistent receivers, an inconsistent running game, and a below-average coaching staff--nearly won a game in Gillette Stadium!  The Patriots were coming off a bye, and were all pumped up by the return of Tedy Bruschi.

I challenge you to name seven quarterbacks--just seven--who could have taken that pathetic 2005 Bills team into Gillette Stadium, under those circumstances, against the rested and motivated Patriots, and would have walked out with a win.

    712122

Your points are well noted. I will admit that there was terrible playcalling as well. I will also admit that Holcomb while not spectacular, was getting the job done in that game.

I would also like to point out that our defense was doing a good job in that game too.

The reason that I focus on this one play is because of the situation. Maybe it should have been 1st & 10, but it was'nt. The playcall on this play may not have been the best choice either. My point is that Holcomb is a veteran QB, and he's seen a lot of plays, from that perspective did Holcomb really think his pass to Moulds would work? Why not at least throw it downfield and take the chance of actually getting the 1st down?

That is why I focus on the play, and I blame Mularkey on this too. After that play the Bills looked incompetant, stupid, and like they did'nt even belong in the NFL.

How can a veteran like Kelly Holcomb make a play like that, in that situation?

That is my frustration with Holcomb.

  10. I do not hate Holcomb, but I will be deeply troubled if he emerges as the starter, which I do not think will happen.

I think Holcomb should be the back-up.

I lost all of my faith in Holcomb as a starter during the Bruschi Blowfest. 4th & 7, the Bills have a real chance of winning. Holcomb goes back to pass, looks, looks, and throughs a 1 yard pass to a completely covered Eric Moulds. GAME OVER!!! :P:)

  11. Welcome to San Jose, JoeF and family. I've lived here my whole life and I think you will like the area, since we are in a prime location.

If you need any info on the area or a tour guide, I'd be glad to help.

Wacka told you about where we meet for Bills games, that is where our unofficial Bills Backers Group meets at.

    Hope to meet you soon.
