I think the tagline for the site for many years contained something "since 1998".    I came over from HyperBills the Rochester D&C site.   I think it shut down and TBD quickly assumed the space.   But @SDS knows the details.

HyperBills was my path as well. 1998 sounds right.

  2. I think Bishop is going to surprise people. He is another level of aggressiveness and athleticism, but it was a fraction off due to the training camp setbacks. When the light goes on, he has a chance to be our best DB. Not SS. DB.

And I'm confident it will happen. He was getting better by the week.

  3. Doomsday? That's when Beane trades up for need and runs away from future all-pros at another position.

    And bags a replacement-level player.

Unfortunately, this is more common than not, as Logic pointed this out on the Elam reference.

I'm in the camp that we should trade back 5-10 slots and pick up a 3rd - a spot for Thorton or a new RB.

(PS. Chriss Simms is raving about Kyle Williams who is now going in the 2nd of mocks. He nails the WRs. Let him pick our next one. Think J Jefferson as his #1 in the Diggs trade year, and Brian Wilson Jr as last year's #2 - before Harrison and Odunze. Damn.)

Several zone CBs look good at the new spot. Amos, Morrison, Porter, Ravel - one will be available.

Or the better of the DTs.

    Repeat with next 2nd.

Third 2nd - K Williams?  Or maybe that Schwesinger LB that could be a massive hit - with he or Bernard replacing Milano next year?

The fans don't need to have any patience, it was Cook (and his team) that have gone down the social media path.  And there could be a reason to trade him at this time and that is if Cook intends to not play for the first 11 games.

Fans aren't making this call.  Beane needs to evaluate the situation and determine the odds of a "hold-in".  If Cook isn't going to play the first 11 games then moving Cook prior/during the draft is the preferred option.  If you're missing Cook for over half the season I would like to see a decent rookie brought in as the third RB.

I think this is almost cast in stone. If Beane lets this go until  summer, he gives Cook all the leverage. He would have lost the chance to fortify the position in a strong RB draft, and the Bills WILL be screwed if Cook decides to hold out. We can argue the merits of paying him, but it is Beane who establishes the value, not us. If he does not pay Cook before the draft, he should trade him.

as mentioned, it really is in his best interest to ball out this season. And expect they All know that

But i can see him doing a " hey, I am not getting the ball enough or the play calls are not in my best interest " lol

    Actually it's not IMO.

The most important thing for Cook, if he's on the Bills without a new contract, is to stay healthy.

That may not mean he literally sits for a hangnail, but it does mean he will not sell out for performance at the expense of damage.

The problem with not drafting an RB is that it increases the impact of a Cook threat to "hold in" until week 11.

Which makes trading Cook before or during the draft a priority. In fact, this may make it a foregone conclusion.

We're vulnerable to a holdout, and if we wait, we'll miss out on a deep RB class.

I want Cook re-signed. However, the Bills signed Johnson for two years and have 3 more years on Davis.  My guess is Beane thinks they are in a reasonable position going forward. Also Cook would be foolish to “hold in” on a team fighting for the Super Bowl.  He’d lose the PR battle and it would hurt his reputation with other teams that might be interested in him as a FA.

Cook’s best revenge for not locking him up would be to have a great season and walk for a big $ contract.  My guess is he does have another big year the Bills tag him for year 5 and he walks in year 6.

These are all reasons to predict that Cook is officially trouble. He's as good as gone.

As far as the first round, I’d agree. In the second we have Cody Ford and Boogie Basham. What makes the Ford pick even more heinous is there were rumors the Bills were trying to get back into the first round for him. They tried trading up repeatedly in the 2nd and were sweating bullets, hoping they could get him. All the while DK Metcalf and AJ Brown just go floating by (and we had a need at WR). I always think how differently that draft would’ve played out if the Panthers selected Ford (like they believed) rather than Greg Little.

That we needed a WR, and Beane still traded extra for Ford had me questioning his drafting skill.

And we were chasing OL after he traded Teller, a future all pro, to Cleveland for snacks.

Crosby is entering his age 28 season and Garrett his age 29 season.

They are 21 months difference in age not 3 years (your 27 and 30 analogy).

Crosby is coming off an injury plagued season and has never been a first team All Pro or serious NFLDPOY contender(highest finish 4th).   Garrett is coming off a NFLDPOY type season......after winning it the season before.......and is a 4 time first team All Pro.

Crosby has been very good, until this season.......but Garrett is clearly the better player by a significant margin.

Garrett's .88 sacks per game career versus Crosby's .63 is a massive disparity.

Still, nearly 2 years difference is a big deal in players near 30. And Garret does turn 30 during the 2025 season.

I'm sure you're right about the disparity in play. I simply do not want to mortgage 5 years future for 2 years play.

My idea was to use Cook/Miller for Crosby with little to no picks. Maybe that's impractical. Maybe I have Cosby's value to high. IDK. But I sure as hell do not want to dance with another Von Miller pipe dream that blows up in our face - all because McBeane can't evaluate/draft DLs.

PS: I was adamantly AGAINST the Von Miller signing. I knew it was a disaster then. Maybe it would have worked without the injury, but I'm not against a Garrett trade because of it.

But for Maxx or Myles, J Cook is one piece, the Bills would need to put in picks also.  And in those instances it helps muddy up the evaluation of the trade metrics which can be helpful.

Also with Cook's contract situation the acquiring team would have the advantage of playing all kinds of cap games.  While they would have to pay Cook and give him a big signing bonus/guarantee they could manipulate the cap hit over the years pretty much as they see fit.

So a blockbuster trade of M Garrett and  G Newsome trade for the Bills 2025 1st round pick, J Cook, AJ Epenesa, and a 2026 1st (and maybe Elam), may be a good fit for both teams and fanbases.

I'm not sure why giving up multiple 1sts for a soon-to-be 30 year old player is every Bills fans wet dream, but that is a disaster waiting to happen. At least with the disastrous Miller contract we didn't have to give up picks.

But Maxx Crosby is another story. He's 27 and has exhibited some real Bills love in recent times. And Cook would go farther in satisfying the terms of a deal ... at a position of need.

I hate to do this here, but is Beane the bigger problem over McDermott?

It would be easier to get rid of Beane and keep McDermott, and then release McDermott if that doesn’t work out in 1-3 years.

We are all saying it. We don’t have the horses to do what the Eagles did— scheme wise because of talent deficiencies. So we can’t expect McDermott to coach ‘em up to do that, right?! There’s no talent. McDermott isn’t dumb and we watch him use his first aide kit, which only works if we force a TO or hold to FGs. So it worked a lot this season. But the D didn’t pass any eye test whatsoever.

Beane’s draft record is getting worse. It’s declining. He drafts good players. But he misses on top player projections, and he misses on guys that eye test wise seem like they’d be lucky to even perform at their draft slot. He takes players and I think, what’s special about that nice looking college player..?? I don’t see any one skill that projects as a top performing talent in the NFL.

Beane drafts B players everywhere in the draft.

Beane should be the new Buffalo Bills Assistant GM/B Player Scout Specialist, where as Beane gets a few mid/late round picks and that’s it.

We are losing the draft and free agency to the better organizations. We need to rank our roster on Beane, and not give bonus points for having a top QB.

Bottom line is Beane SHOULD BE SWEATING. Would Terry instill that pressure? McDermott  putting on that pressure, I don’t like it. He has other interests and his own responsibilities.

I think McDermott is the smarter of the two, so I’d keep McDermott and move on from Beane if he: 1. Can’t land Garrett; 2. Loses our off season/draft; and we don’t get to the SB next season. I’m moving on.

I’ll be a jerk and say I laugh that McDermott looks genuinely amazed James Cook is out performing the team’s expectations that THEY placed on him from the DRAFT (Beane)

I'm inclined to agree with you, but would need to know this first: How much influence does McDermott have on Beane's 1st thru 3rd round draft selections?

Because the answer may also be - get McDermott out of the draft room.

In either case, it is clear that Beane is a 100% needs drafter at the top of the draft. His success on Day 3 gives me hope that, if he prioritize talent like Philly and Baltimore, he can be equally as effective.

If Kincaid makes that catch, we could have/would have overcome everything.

The holding, bad spots, the block in the back on the return, the catch that wasn't, the brillance of the Spags blitz, the constantly ineffective tush pushes, failed 2 point conversions, you name it.

We had the clutch plays that we needed, Hollins TD, Cook TD, Milano sack, Phillips sack, Samuel TD, Oliver fumble recovery.

Sure there were other plays we didn't make but we were so close yet so far and at the very least those Chiefs fans would have felt a miniscule amount of postseason pain inflicted on them by the Buffalo Bills.

Go back to the broadcast tape - the refs had a penalty flag queued up in case Buffalo converted the 4th. The flag mysteriously disappeared after the incompletion.

With the still pending need to score and that much time left on the clock, no way the NFL was letting Buffalo walk away with a victory.

Please note - I use the term NFL, not ref. New York is making decisions for THEIR entertainment product. Refs handle the small stuff, like f#cking over Buffalo's spots.

excuse machine in overdrive today.  There is a thing called trading-up.  Also, there are elite players there, just ask any team with an elite QB.  KC drafted Humphries (likely HOF player) in the 2nd.  Bean took Basham.  TJ Watt, late first round pick.  Gee, oh, Lamar Jackson, late first round pick.

In 2022 after we took Elam, the next three picks were pro bowl players: OT Tyler Smith, C Tyler Lindenbaum, and DE Jermaine Johnson II.

It's called, picking for need. That's how Beane uses our premium picks.

And it's why he is better on day 3 when he doesn't.

That's why he trades up for Cody Ford when Metcalf would come to him.

  13. Josh Allen was the only QB for me.

When the trade was announced I knew it was Buffalo moving up.

When he said "Josh" I knew it was Allen.

I believed in Beane, I suppose. I figured he had to see what little I saw.

In hindsight, I don't know if Beane has been all that in the premium drafting rounds.

    Maybe we were just lucky.

This year's WR group says more about how McD views Allen than anything else.  Because the offense with Allen and Diggs meant you'd want to throw it downfield to maximize those players' skills.  And both Daboll and Dorsey did, with good results at times.  Removing Diggs, they've assembled a bunch of slot receivers, a rookie, and some low-end options who'll play close to the LOS.  And the new OC knows that his HC expects the offense to go a different way than his predecessor OC's.

This is by design and drafting Coleman doesn't really change the offense much for 2024.  There's something about all of these moves which suggests McD wants Josh to play a safer style that will run it ~50% of the time and largely mixes in short passes to that limited WR group.  I'm not even convinced that Kincaid is suddenly going to be catching passes downfield either.

By constructing the offense this way, it speaks more to how the HC is unwilling to cede any more control to the QB than is absolutely necessary.  Of course, something has to give eventually and it's only a matter of time.  You can't have the HC clipping the QB's wings...the guy they need when the new stadium opens and charge exorbitant prices just to have the right to buy tickets.

Maybe it says more about how the Bills no longer want to be held hostage by a diva WR. The top WR salaries are stupid and potential cap-killers ... like Diggs' extension. That alone would make Bean double-pump at signing a CDL.

So let's not assume OBD is oblivious to WR and offense. We may be witness to a new way of doing business: flood the field with varied and competent skill sets with multiple move packages and non-standard position assignments. Use the WR to make DC's go crazy, much like McD has done on defense with his safties.

And save a gazillion dollars and headaches with the league's unquestionably #1 diva position.

  15. Is this still a question? Everything Diggs did showcased the fact that he is a toxic prima donna. When the first question out of a reporter's mouth for 2 years is, "How is your relationship with ... " then you have a problem. Even Diggs' tweets implied a kind of sh@t talk to JA, who NEVER said a bad thing about him in public.

I am ecstatic that Diggs got traded. He was an anchor around the team's neck, with more leadership role than leadership talent. He disappeared after Brady, and the team started to win in impressive fashion. That is all we really need to know. He and Davis were empty targets in the end, and any combo of Samual, MSV, and Coleman added to Shakir, Kincaid, and Knox will highlight that JA doesn't need an overpaid me-first prima donna. Add Davis to the mix, and we will be better this year.

F#ck Diggs. JA will create new stars.

  16. This lineup is stronger than last year.

We are rid of WR drops and bad attitudes.

Our safeties will outperform our old heroes.

We will get better IOL play.

And Coleman will make more highlight reels and game-winning catches than anyone in the 1st round.

Like us, maybe Beane got sick of seeing Davis, Cook, and Diggs drop balls. Now Allen has what might be the best all-hands team in the NFL in Kincaid, Shakir, and Coleman. They might not be fast, but they all catch the ball.

Gabe Davis taught the Bills this one important lesson:

Nothing is more important than catching the football.

We can also thank Gabe for drafting Kincaid and Colemam.

I agree. We may be the best WR-hands team in the league.

It has been said, and I am now fully on board: Keon Coleman has the best BALL SKILLS of any WR in this draft.

Look at it this way guys. We did a trade with the Chiefs and sent them Worthy. In return, we got this guy and moved up in the 6th round. Does this make you happy?

We radically changed our board. And got the better WR.

Worthy will not be what you think he will. Keon looks like the next guy to catch 4 TDs against KC in the AFC Championship game.

And do it year after year.

  19. I was on board with Ladd. Felt sick watching the Chargers celebrate at #34. Watched more Coleman of his highlights.

I started to see it. He will be a super-charged Gabe Davis.

He will catch all the TDs and close-calls Gabe dropped.

He will catch all of Cooks dropped TDs in the red zone.

He will get Josh's desperation passes running out the sideline in triple coverage.

    And catch them.

I'm good. I encouraged my fellow Bills fans to back away from that ledge I was hanging over.
