  1. I thought that if an OT went down with an injury, Jason Peters' name would be the first to pop up as an alternate in the Probowl. Jonathan Ogden is a scratch, so the league calls up the Patriots Matt Light?!?! He does more holding than a dance couple! After all of the All Pro lists and considerations that I have seen Peters' name on, why was he snubbed? Matt Light can't touch Jason Peters...

  2. Taken from Profootball Weekly, so who knows what its worth -

Following on the heels of some uncomplimentary comments about Buffalo in an interview in the current issue of Penthouse magazine, and the news that McGahee has fathered three children with three different women in the past two years, it appears as if RB Willis McGahee has further alienated a Bills brain trust that places a big emphasis on high character and morals. Add in the fact that agent Drew Rosenhaus has mentioned the desire to extend McGahee’s deal, which expires following the 2007 season, and word is the Bills are going to make addressing their RB situation a top priority this offseason. We hear the Bills are not likely to shop McGahee but that they would consider a trade offer if it were proposed to them. To give up McGahee, Buffalo would expect a first-round pick plus one of the following: a player, a late-round draft pick this year or a future draft pick.

  3. I thought I heard on ESPN yesterday that Indy LB Cato June is a free agent this off season. Can anyone confirm this? The guy is a bad ass. If TKO or Crowell could make the move to MLB,you could sign June to play the weak side. That would be a definite upgrade over Fletcher.

I don't understand why everyone is sooo enamored with Cato June, sure he has above average pass coverage capabilities, but he's an absolute liability in the run game. Toooo many missed tackles and too often caught out of position.

  4. Thanks Jokeman, cleared that one up...

    From http://www.buccaneers.com/news/newsdetail.aspx?newsid=4096

    1. Amit Oberoi of Montreal, Quebec, Canada asks:

If time is running out of a game, and you are about to be tackled in bounds, are you allowed to lateral the ball (backwards, obviously) out of bounds? Will it be a penalty and an automatic 10 second runoff; I wouldn't see why. For the couple of yards you lose on a lateral, stopping the clock could be the difference between winning and losing.

Answer Man: Your suspicions are correct, Amit, and your game-saving gambit wouldn't work. The NFL obviously frowns on intentional fumbling - see the above 'Holy Roller' description - and has provisions for desperate acts such as these.

Rule 4-3-10 in the NFL rulebook condemns 'Actions to Conserve Time' and specifically mentions your suggestion. To wit:

A team is not permitted to conserve time inside of one minute of either half by committing any of the following acts: fouls by either team that prevent the snap (i.e., false start, encroachment, etc.), intentional grounding, an illegal forward pass thrown from beyond the line of scrimmage with the intent to conserve time, throwing a backward pass out of bounds with the intent to conserve time, and any other intentional foul that causes the clock to stop.

See? No go. Similarly, if the center was the first person to reach the spotted ball and he looked up to see the last few seconds running off the clock, he couldn't simply snap the ball before his team was set, hoping to draw a clock-stopping penalty. That would be the dreaded Action to Conserve Time.

The penalty, as you feared, includes a 10-second runoff. Again, here's how the rulebook puts it:

Penalty: Loss of five yards unless a larger distance penalty is applicable. When actions referred to above are committed by the offensive team with the clock running, officials will run 10 seconds off the game clock before permitting the ball to be put in play on the ready for the play signal. If the offensive team has timeouts remaining, it will have the option of using a timeout in lieu of a 10-second runoff...

And it goes on and on. But you get the point. Should you try this very risky intentional-fumble out of bounds, you would be slapped with a 10-second runoff and then the officials would start the clock again. Your only hope, I guess, is to heave the ball backwards as far as possible and hope a teammate can catch it.

I know you mentioned a foward lateral but that would be considered an illegal foward pass and probably also result in time run off.

  5. The conclusion of the Jets/Pats half had me thinking about this... The Jet player was running on the field and trying to get as many yards as possible before the conclusion of the half. Now, if it was obvious that a player would not be able to get out of bounds before the clock expires, could that player purposely lateral the ball out of bounds before time expires in a half, thus stopping the clock? Anyone know the particulars on this one?

  6. Obviously, the first would have to be the OLine shakeup after the bye week, but the other???

I think we all need to send XMas cards to the Houston Texan's organization for deciding to pass the ball on 3rd and 2. Nevermind the fact that they were running all over us that game with some guy named Lundy, but enabling us to stop the clock (with that incomplete pass) and subsequently produce a game winning drive, has changed this team's confidence level - starting with the guy who produced the drive - JP Losman.

  7. Man I really like Robert Royal, for anyone that seen the game Sunday against New England would have seen Royal pumping the guys up on the field when they were down.  Not only is he a leader on the field, hes making some plays also.  I really hope hes gets the ball more.  He made some tough grabs last Sunday.  I think hes a play maker for this team and a guy JP can really depend on.

But, like I said, hes becoming a favorite player of mine.  I hope he sticks around for a while, to me, its really looks like hes having alot of fun out there and truely wants to be here in Buffalo.

Your thoughts on Royal? I hope they are like mine.......if not explain why....

    Thanks!

Tell him how much you like him yourself...

    Robert Royal

  8. Playcalling... yes he was getting rid of his passes quicker, but there was also never a DL/LB/DB in his face gettin ready to sack him either. On another note, did you see how AZ Oline was blowing CHI off the ball? Wow...

Did you see that? What sets him apart from J.P.? Did you see how quickly he goes through his reads and passes the ball?

I am not annointing him the savior yet, but he can play.

  9. Im sorry I may be mistaken, but I thought that there were other games this Sunday other than the TO's and Eagles?! 20 min into that show and all I've heard is TO this and TO that... this show sucks!! By the way, Mort read off some news and mentioned a few WRs, at the conclusion of this news his statement, "So there you go, news about wide receiver's without one mention of 'you know who'." Im thinkin, well you just mentioned that you didnt mention him, therefore mentioning him, right? :D

  10. I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.

Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!

The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.75 for regular unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace.... not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!

And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

    Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp (sic) out on me at this point.. keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it...... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people and DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from EXXON and MOBIL. That's all.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

    THIS CAN REALLY WORK
