Oh, really? I thought I heard the announcers say he played for a club in Uruguay. I guess I'll have to watch La Liga a little more often!

Forlan has become one of my fvorite players during this tourney. This guy can do everything, and his long distance shots are DEADLY! He's amazing on set pieces, and his passing is amazingly accurate. I hope he leaves whatever league he's playing in in South America and heads to Europe...I'd love to see more of this guy on a top notch club. There aren't many players who have had a better cup than this dude.

Good read! I agree with what he said about whether soccer has finally taken off in this country, too. I believe it has, but that being said, THIS is what it looks like! lol It's having the country paying attention to what our team does in the WC, it's having a national soccer league still growing after 15 years or so in existence, it's having our players getting more playing time and recognition abroad, it's ESPN broadcasting every WC match, champions league final, and some of the best club matches from the EPL in glorious HD every year, etc, etc. If it never got any bigger than this, I'd be happy as heck! I feel like I get plenty of soccer coverage. I know where to find what I want to watch, I know where to go when I want to talk about it, and I think it'll stay that way for a long time. If it grows from here, then great! But I'd say the sport is quite healthy right now, and with a very promising future.

Thanks, man...that was a much more satisfying win than I could have ever imagined. I'm on record as having picked the Argentines to win it all this year, so I was probably as shocked as anyone by that. As for Maradona, I actually really enjoyed his candor and enthusiasm. I thought his antics on the sidelines were great, and I liked how he stood behind his players and his comments during pressers. Meazza is doing a very good job convincing me about the importance of defense at this level, so I guess I can't be too surprised at the outcome, but I really did expect Argentina to make it to the finals. Oddly enough, even though the Germans are my 1-B team, they are probably the biggest surpirse in the tourney for me. Just never expected these younger players to be this poised and effective already.Someone on WC Live postulated that Ballack being injured as a blessing for this team, and I think that may really be the case. Klose is a goal away from Ronaldo's record, and they're playing lights out. As far as 2014, that's going to be a South American team's cup to lose. I can't imagine Brazil not defending their home turf, but should be an interesting cup for you guys, too!

When I got home from work, I started watching the Spain/Paraguay match....I couldn't take it...had to just FF to the good parts lol.

Ah okay. I was watching from work on the ESPN gamecast, so I didn't know wtf was going on for a few mins there until the graphics got caught up. I knew Paraguay missed, but then I thought Spain somehow got back to back PKs...which was really weird...then i realized the first was disallowed. What a series of events! Germany will wipe their behinds with Spain if they have this much trouble beating Paraguay.

Yep, they said on the radio today that the Germans are the only team to make it to at least the quarters for the past 15 WCs. Looks like there's a pretty good chance this will be the first WC where a Euro team wins it all at a non-European site, eh Meazza? Or did I not read correctly what you said before about that? I don't feel lke going back through pages to find it.

And I totally agree, KD...the reason I didn't pick them is because I wasn't that familiar with their younger guns, I wasn't sure if Klose woudl play, and I knew Ballack wouldnt' be there. I never would have expected them to be this prolific in the tourney....quite a show! Messi and Teves totally shut down...unreal

Diego Forlan for Uruguay is a BEAST! His free kick for a goal today was perfect....just out of the reach of the diving keeper. This game is about to go to PKs....Uruguay should win that for sure. Sometimes Ghana can't hit the side of a barn with their shots. EDIT: see what I mean? lol Could have won it right there....holy crap, this match is off the hook!

Well I just had a pretty cool experience. I had never had the opportunity to listen to soccer on the radio, but my local sports station had the ESPN radio feed of the Brazil v. Netherlands match on as I was driving in. Those guys did a great job with the call! I was able to easily picture the action in my head and maintain a good feel for the match even though I couldnt' see it. On top of all that, it was a HUGE upset! congrats to the netherlands! This WC just got a whole helluva lot more interesting! Germany v. Argentina tomorrow, baby!!!!
