To be fair the 2 picks were on Davis/Kincaid.  Gotta catch those

Nope.  Those “drops” were on Josh.  He has always been a “see it throw it” guy but it’s at another level this year.  He is so uninterested pre-snap that he is forced to process everything on the fly.  By the time he finally sees it, he often has to throw it with so much zip that it makes it nearly impossible for his receivers, crazy bounces happen, etc.  Josh is a huge problem this year and it’s his lack of preparation and work before the ball is snapped.

Of course, it would’ve helped to sign a savvy veteran receiver who happens to have the strongest hands in the entire NFL, but Beane didn’t want to shell out another $2m/year or whatever for DHop.

    I’d fire all of them.

one of the things i haven't seen mentioned - last night was a better game for playcalls by dorsey.

the passing game didn't work, the runs under center did a few times (but we didn't play under center a lot).

dorsey wasn't the biggest problem last night.

True but it also somehow felt like they went away from the run too often.  Seemed like they could’ve run the ball 48 times and won easily or at least waited until it forced Denver to totally load the box.

But whatever.  This is a poorly-coached team in complete free fall and the only thing preventing change at this point is Pegula’s own laziness.

Texas A&M just paid over 75 million dollars to get rid of Jimbo Fisher, who I think is more of a football guy than McDermott.  Imo McDermott is primarily a self serving salesman.

McDermott sold Pegula a line of s#%t with the "process" term that he co-opted from Nick Saban. Pegula bit like a fish and gave him the big majority of, if not full power in the organization. Now we are stuck with poor performance, questionable free agent signings, limited cap space, and lousy, primarily defense based drafts.

It is way past time to fire McDermott. He should have already been booted out the door, or at least had much of his power taken away. At this point, he should be fired today or later this week.

    Sorry folks, jmo.

It will likely take care of itself.  They are going to get pasted by the Eagles, Cowboys, Chiefs and Dolphins in Miami, and possibly the Chargers as well.  Pegula won’t want to go through another coaching and GM search but the chorus will be too loud by the end of this stretch.

Their OC Bobby Slowik is another young up and comer from the Shanahan tree. At this point you'd have to be crazy as a franchise not to have someone like that as your OC or head coach. That has far and away been the easiest and fastest path to success for several NFL teams over the past few years. Rams, 49ers, Dolphins, now the Texans.

  5. I expect Gabe to have a couple big games down the stretch this season as defenses key more on Kincaid, and some desperate team like Carolina will give him a Christian Kirk deal.  We will happily take the comp pick.

But nobody was trading for him last week - this thread is a straw man.

  6. Thanks for this.  What’s frustrating to me about what you’re describing is that on both sides of the ball, for the most part (excepting Torrence, Kincaid, Dorian), these are players who have been playing in these schemes for quite awhile now.  It seems like they are not practicing the right way.  You’re describing post-snap execution errors not schematic issues.  Are they simply not preparing enough?

    2) Agreed. Watching live, this was my frustration.

    3) I think this is where the answers to most of our questions about this offense lies.

    4) I think not being able to run the ball and not having a screen game made it very difficult to get CIN to break from their base defense. While it would be nice to steal some plays in the middle of the field, I’m not sure it would have gotten them to shift philosophy.

    6) Honestly, run it until they stop it. I don’t care. 4 yards a clip is fine. You won’t go broke making a profit. Make them get out of their base by taking the opportunities presented. Once they do they, assert your will.

7 and 10) I think these two points answer each other. Rush 3/4, spy the. QB, and make Allen make good decisions. Some of the post games I hear from other teams are more polite versions of the “make him play QB” we heard about Lamar. But to your point; I don’t think Dorsey is helping either.

😎I agree, you have to sometimes throw the deep ball to keep everybody honest. But situationally after a stalled drive and the defense not being able to get off the field, that sequence of events on the 3rd drive was bad. I’ll also add, Cincinnati was protecting the deep ball in their Tampa 2. It didn’t feel like they needed to drop down. We needed to make them pay for not respecting anything else other than the big play.

If anything I think defenses sometimes take advantage of Josh’s impatience. He wants to push the ball down the field so bad. He can’t help himself sometimes.

Looking forward to taking a look at the first half A22 and what was different in the second other than tempo.

Agree with you for the most part wrt cover 2 attack but in the clips Erik showed, I was struck by the lack of man-beaters to attack the single high scenarios.  Where are the crossers, etc., in those scenarios?  If I’m an opposing DC I am playing man coverage against this offense.

Yes. All of his production came late when the Jaguars defense went to sleep. When we needed someone, ANYONE, to make a play for the offense earlier in the game, Davis was MIA. Somehow my opinion of him has gotten even lower this year. I'm starting to think my comparison to Marquez Valdes-Scantling was too kind.

    Gabe Davis-Scantling-Bey.

  9. Dorsey calls individual plays but doesn’t set up a coherent strategy every week, unique to attacking the opponent.  Allen has largely just accepted the coaches’ mandates to execute the plays that are called post-snap.  McD delegates the offense to Dorsey except the occasional directives to run the ball more.  Beane wildly overestimates the ability of his offensive personnel.  Pegula just stays out of it which is probably for the best but there is no one setting a high standard of accountability within the organization.  It’s all kind of depressing.
