  1. How would you compare the level of competition that USC plays vs. that that Clemson plays? JMO, Clemson has lined up and paid for some games against duckpin clubs in recent years...
  2. The plate is (obviously) placed directly in front of me. Don't be difficult. I merely offer an observation - and Universities get million-dollar grants for such inanities as mine - things like "Study shows that people that eat more have a tendency towards obesity. "
  3. You are right about AMC. TCM has the real goods these days. BTW, PBS has started a new "Miss Marple" series as of last week. Jane Hixon returns - Geraldine McEwan did a fine job in her portrayal in the past few series. Every now and then, TCM shows one of the old b&w movies starring Margaret Rutherford.
  4. I've noticed a subtle bias in the serving at restaurants. Example: Wife 'n me on Saturdays, go out for breakfast. I generally order this: One fried egg over medium, hash browns, 3 bacon, 2 toast (one of the bacon strips goes to my wife - she orders 2 fried eggs over and dry rye toast). Without exception, my plate is placed with the hash browns on the left of me, and the egg on the right. I am left-handed, so I rotate the plate 180 degrees (We both scive off the white...the yolk adds too much cholesterol). At home (I subscribe to the tv chef Batali's statement - "the only reason to eat out is if you don't feel like cleaning up afterward."), my right-handed wife orients her plate so that meat is on her right, whereas I put it on the left.
  5. That's lovely, tenny. May they all rest in eternal peace.
  6. It's a done deal... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/1343907...g=headlines;nfl
  7. Why do WC players fall onto the ground and writhe in pain if someone touches them with a mere tap of a pinkie...when the camera is on them?
  8. Nicely stated, lybob- you summed up what's what, in a single sentence. Good job!
  9. Indeed - for reasons we could go on and on about. They will be broke.
  10. Well said. "Potential" has short legs. I like victories sooner than later, be they ugly or not.
  11. It's not easy being old...
  12. You missed my point. Once the dish is placed, do what ever you like to chop up the goods, save flinging same goods across the room. If you want to pick your nose with your oyster fork or spit your fruit pits into your salt cellar, well, that's a different matter.
  13. Never worry about how you saw away at food placed before you. The Europeans have the convention of always hanging on to knife and fork, never dropping either. That's because their long tradition of slaughtering each other dictates that they always have weapons at the ready.
  14. Warn your guests. Many people don't care for shellfish or mercury ingestion...
  15. Here's a tip, to help you decide which is your bread plate and which is your drinking glass in the so-called "everyday" dinner service: Put out your arms, wrist up, and mate your index fingers to the thumb. The left hand forms a sort of a "b". The right, sort of a "d". There you go - "b" is your bread plate, and "d" is your drinking glass. Your fork and napkin is on the left. Your knife and soup spoon is is on the right. That fork/spoon above your plate is for your dessert. Always remember - serve from the left, and remove from the right. Never seat spouses next to each other in a formal dinner in an "ala Russe" supper. Placecards are there for a reason. "Turning the table" remains a nice thing to do by a host/hostess who keeps a keen eye. I despair of people who mutter to their accompaniment..."you aren't paying attention to ME." The idea of a gathering is to meet and converse with others...
  16. Helicopter Dad and Mom's little precious ones... people here call the school driveways where the self-important darlings are dropped off and picked up, the "Heliport." Would that spanking be with the thong in place, or pulled down?
  17. Update: They are being sued for $47,000... http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years...1sorority1.html
  18. Here's the latest: In March, the Ohio U. Pi Beta Phi sisters stormed Parkersburg, W.Va. http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story/Yet-A...Ok6rfbCz8Q.cspx

  20. Since you had success in drilling and inserting a butterfly thing, or an expansion arrangement - don't worry. The "bumps" are called stand-offs. You are fine - it's not going to come crashing down, if it didn't happen from the git-go. If you "hammered" in the hanging device - thank your lucky stars that you didn't cause a crack in the drywall.
  21. There is continual chit-chat about "difference makers" The latest is Spiller. Evans never filled that role. Folks like to point out the lousy qbs, lousy OLs, the overall team as to why he didn't put up the big numbers. IMO, he has never been one to fight for a victory, trying to do what it may take. He's never been - for an example, a Wayne Chrebet or a TJ Housh. "I'm Lee. I can run fast in a straight line. I don't often come back to help out a qb under duress. I'm Lee. I can run fast." Sorry - I view him as just another check casher. Unfortunately for BUF, he has a hefty contract. and BUF hasn't exactly distinguished themselves with acquiring wr talent in recent seasons.
  22. Ouch! The OL injury bug caught up to them. IIRC, they escaped it for the past few previous seasons. CIN was at the bottom in '08. Gosselin had an article: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...in.34d3911.html Training camp injuries hurt, also. In '08, CIN was able to dress only 60 or so for 2 or 3 of their preseason games. So the valuable evaluation time needed to set the roster is compromised. There's also a "hidden" price to pay when you end up a season with a bunch on IR - it can affect your upcoming draft. Will this player be able to return? What about that one who plays at this or that position? That uncertainty can force you to speculate, and pick a player/position that you might not if you didn't have so many injured player "question marks." The Bills' decision to switch to a 3-4 compounded the difficulty IMO. I'm in the "wait and see" camp re Spiller, but dice exist for the purpose of being rolled! For the rest of the selections, I have no strident opinions either way...they were in a tough situation. I'm sure they will be combing the cuts. Well - I hope so. Mix in the above along with the schedule as well as the league uncapped year, and it should be an *interesting* season.
  23. Lots of teams don't have a "franchise" QB, but have/had good, serviceable quarterbacks. Brunell and Green certainly were quite successful. Frerotte, Blake, Grbac, had good seasons.
  24. See my edit. I owned slacks such as you describe decades and decades ago. You haven't discovered anything remotely new.
