  1. Von Miller put his name on the anti-trust litigation officially making him persona non grata. why would anyone draft this malcontent. all of the talent in the world will not make up for this slap in the owners face.

Ummm yeah sure... I heard that the Colts, *Cheaters and Saints have alreay started making plans on getting rid of Manning, Brady and Brees for their slap in the face to the owners.

Well thought out rjwii, well thought out!

  2. Occam's razor (a principle that suggests we should tend towards simpler theories until we can trade some simplicity for increased explanatory power) says they are considering Newton.

My personal opinion is all this talk of smokescreens is a bit beyond Buddy and Chan.

This sounds like something a typical code monkey would say...LOL.

  3. I got the Fix, It's simple. Let the owners eat 2 Preseason games. Keep the 16 Regular season games and 4 Preseasons. Have it be a fan appreciation thing. The Owners pay for us fans. Fans get in for free. Simple. Makes the owners look less greedy and makes the fans happy and players happy.

That's all that has to be done. I don't get what the big deal is...

If avg ticket price is $50 and the avg seating capacity is 68,000 then that would make a $6.8 million difference(2 games).

Take that to the Jerry Jones level with an avg ticket price of about $100 and 100,000 in seating and you're talking about a $17,000,000 difference.

The owners will make more money if you keep 20 overall games but change it to 18 regular season and only 2 preseason games. The 2 preseason games that are being changed to regular season games will sell more tickets and will draw bigger TV viewership which is a win win for the owners. Considering the above and the fact that fans have been bitching for years about paying regular game prices for the preseason games that amount to nothing more than an extended training camp and you can see why this is a big priority for the owners.

  4. Let's shoot it straight here- did you really think pat would be the oldest defensive player in the league? Reason said he had like 2 years left as a 350 lbs man at what was he 32? 33?

Not saying he shouldn't have been retained, but not nearly as obvious as most make it sound.

I completely disagree, I thought it was an obviously bad move at the time! He wasn't showing signs of slowing down, he wasn't going to demand outragous money, and there wasn't a young protege waiting in the wings to take over for him. There was no good reason not to re-sign him. It was a horrible nonmove!

  5. FYI, the players and owners agree on the rookie wage issue. No one wants rookies to take maybin contracts anymore.

Not exactly true. The escalation in rookie contracts has also resulted in the escalation in the vets contracts. It has been the leading bargaining chip used by proven vets to leverage for their own contracts which in effect trickles down to the rest of the players. That being said the players will probably give in on rookie wage limits, but probably by freezing them where they are but not a reduction, which is what is really needed.

  6. In '87, Huey released Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity (and the importance of trends), it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

    Hey, Paul!

to two prostitutes] Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion". In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. "In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your !@#$. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like "In the Air Tonight" and, uh, "Against All Odds". Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is "Sussudio", a great, great song, a personal favorite.

  7. Yeah, it meant no message, I'm pretty sure. Some poster named Belinda would get pissed off if there was no message in the thread and it wasn't labeled NM.....So, they started labeling them Belinda.

    You are correct!

BTW I need to find a way to calculate currency exchanges, does anyone know a way...

  8. Would I enjoy a day off after the SB? YES. More time to party and enjoy the game well after it's over.

W/O an 18 game schedule Feb 21 (3rd week of of the month) is a bit late for the SB

An 18 game season does not extend the season. Instead of there being 4 preseason games there will only be 2. The season will actually start 2 weeks earlier.

  9. The players will always be the huge winners. The owners are already multi million or billionaires without the NFL. The players come from all kinds of back grounds, some with and some without legitimate college degrees, and earn millions of dollars. That is crazy. I don't care if they are "entertainers" and all elite "entertainers" earn millions. I don't care that they put their lives on the line, and in many cases risk major injuries and have major problems after their careers are over with their health. You can say the exact same thing about fire fighters, police officers and military soldiers.

I wish the 32 owners of the NFL would shut the whole thing down and start it all over again. The goal would be to cater to the average fan instead of television and corporations. Every major sport should do the exact same thing, especially in today's economic times. Here is what should happen:

    1) Every NFL team should sign a 50 year irrovocable lease with their current cities and should go back to paying those cities and counties good money for the right to play in those publicly funded stadiums, including going back to paying those cities and counties parking and concessions money. (The very few owners that paid for their own stadiums with zero public funding can be free to negotiate more favorable leasing terms, but they should still sign a 50 year lease.)

    2) PSL's should be banned. (However owners could still charge for their luxury suites whatever their individual markets will bear)

    3) All ticket prices for seats in every NFL stadium should be cut by at least 50%.

    4) Screw Los Angeles. The NFL should not allow any current team to move there, but instead force them to start from scratch as an expansion team - and in fact add another expansion team from another city that has never had NFL football to keep the number of teams even.

So how on earth do the owners afford to take these 4 fan-friendly steps you might ask? Very easy - reduce the money they pay the players. Cut the salary cap in half - at least. What is it now, (or what was it before this past 2010 uncapped season) - about 125 Million dollars per year per team? Are you freakin' kidding me? Cut that in half, and each team will immediately save 62.5 Million dollars. Per year. Gee, that means Tom Brady and Peyton Manning will only earn 8 Million dollars each instead of 16 Million per season?? How on earth will they ever survive?? And the last guy on the team - the 53rd guy to make the roster, will have to "get by" on only $100,000.00 per season instead of $200,000.00?? Are you telling me that some 7th round draft choice or rookie free agent that over-performs and beats the odds to make the roster at the final cut, won't think it's worth "his trouble" to earn $100,000.00 per season? What are his other options, a sweet $30,000.00 a year entry level marketing job in the real world - if (and that's a huge if) he earned a bachelors degree in college??

I say shut it all down owners, and start it up again from scratch. Every major sport should cut it's payroll by half at the end of their current seasons, and give that money back to the average fans who cannot afford to even attend any of the games anymore. But first and foremost, the NFL needs to do that. They won't of course. But I would love to see it because really....what could the players do??

Pehaps we should just seize the NFL from the owners and players and socialize it for the people? The hell with letting supply and demand dictate what should happen! While we're at it maybe we should seize all of Silicon Valley and bring computer prices down to pennies on the dollar of where they are currently. I suppose healthcare would be next! :wallbash:

  10. Wow, I was thinking of starting a similar thread about how people have been saying it was Stevie's fault cause he drops soooooo many passes and that effects Fitz's completion percentage. Yet the stats show Stevie is about average for dropped passes in The League with one of the best receivers in the league there with him.

    Stevie J. - 8 dropped

    Andre Johnson - 7 dropped

    Reggie Wayne - 12 dropped

    Mike Williams - 7 dropped

    Brandon Marshall - 11 dropped

Wes Welker - 13 dropped; led the league

time to put that common thought here at TBD to bed.

    http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/leaders.asp?range=nfl&type=receiving&rank=232

I find it hard to believe that Stevie only had 8 dropped passes all year, especially when he had 5 in 1 game alone.

  11. I am not going to pull up stats, I can see it will get no where.

You are saying it is easier to teach someone to be smart instead of train someone to get stronger? VY may not have got a 6 on the Wunderlic, but he is no genius. I remember an article years ago that all successful QB's have a higher then average score. That's ALL, as in ALL. The greatest QB's had over 30 if I remember right, one had a 25 but he was not of the "best." Fitz doesn't need to have a cannon of an arm as long as he can put the ball in the right place. No NFL QB needs to throw a ball over 20 yards to be successful. A 10 yard passing QB is more important then a 40 yard.

    ps: Fitz is no weakling.

You're way off base on this statement. I'm not going to take the time to look a bunch up but I know off the top of my head that Marino scored below 20 in the 14 range I believe. Many of the best QBs do score higher than average but it is not as absolute as you indicate.

That being said I would not like to see Young here because of all the mental breakdowns the kid has had. You simply can't count on him being there when you need him.

  12. In what way, exactly? I'm trying to picture Ryan Leaf as a Stanford student and it's just not working.

By the way, for those of you who keep citing Brohm, Locker, etc as reasons why Luck should come out now, I have two words: Peyton Manning. If Luck is really all that, he'll be #1 next year, too.

I think the issue with this situation is not whether he is the real deal and if he is, and he goes back for another year, then he'll go top 3 or even still #1. The issue for Luck is what if he doesn't repeat his performance or if he does suffer a devastating injury, then he will have in all likelyhood taken away an opportunity to set himself and his family up for life.

The risk to reward ratio seems to heavily favor him coming out now. JMHO! That being said I cannot imagine Luck falling to #3 even if Carolina or Denver don't want a QB, someone will offer something up for him, and I hope it is not the Bills. I would much rather see a trade down and pick up more picks, we have a lot of holes to fill! OLB, DE, TE and OL are our top priorities.

  13. Being single, I guess I don't think enough about that......What made me take this stance was during the years we were good, and sometimes just missed selling out. Prices were a lot lower then, but you would drive to the game and you knew what bars were illegally getting the game off satellite, because the parking lots would be full. Then, you would hear about all the people who would drive to Canada to watch the games in bars there, etc.

I was like WTF - you are probably spending more money doing all this stuff when you can just buy a ticket and go to the game!! And, being there is so much better, IMO.

The Bills just posted on Facebook that the game is sold out thanks to a last minute ticket purchase by Russell Salvatore.

  14. I like the fact that he's letting young players get to play some, of course some that has been forced on him through injury-but still I like it- I was getting a little worried when he kept C Green in for so long, if an older guy can't play he's no going to get suddenly better, at that point you should see what some of the youngsters got-that was one of my many complaints about Jauron.

This is what will cause a coach to lose his team. As a coach you need to play whoever has earned the position. You cannot play someone because you're curious about their ability, the player who has earned the position should always start and get the majority of snaps.

There are several reasons for this besides just being fair. A lot of the players have incentives built into their contracts and holding them out thus preventing them from earning those incentives WILL cause locker room issues. You also don't want to take away incentive for players to work hard.

  15. Not sure if it really matters. Fitz and Edwards performed about the same in 2009, no?

I'm not sure how the stats rack up but there was an immediate difference on the offensive side of the ball once Fitz took over. It showed the difference in their styles, captain check down vs amish gunslinger.

  16. wilson said he wants a qb in this draft .... i think we're gonna find out who he likes in an early round, probably the 1st.

He said that just after the failed 2 week Trentative experiment. Things have definately changed. If Wilson steps in and over the advice of Nix and/or Gailey and forces a QB pick in the 1st round it would be another major 1st round snafu! We have too many holes to fill and bringing in a rookie QB who may or may not turn into a franchise QB but will almost certainly be a setback in QB play just doesn't make sense. DL, LB, RT and TE have to be our priorities. Until this team can consistently stop the run it will not matter who the QB is, we will continue losing and we can look forward to ANOTHER year without a playoff berth!

  17. The issue isn't whether Fitzpatrick has improved, it's about selling tickets, and with several thousand empty seats, it's clear the Bills aren't placing their current starting QB at the center of any marketing campaign. They need a drawing card and Fitz isn't it. After all, we still have the same owner who demanded Lynch in the wake of McGahee's comments and lo and behold it happened.

This team is not similar to the 86 team. They have no Kelly, Smith, Reed, Talley, Wolford, et al. Not to mention it was a completely different era where a few teams had more of the talent than today's era where talent is spread more equally. Who do they have now? Fitz, Williams, Jackson, St. Johnson? Not even close.

There was supposedly a light at the end of the tunnel in 06-09, but more failure ensued. With RW/Littman/Overdorf running the show, I don't see how things have really changed.

I think you are way off base on this. I believe we will see Fitz and Stevie marketed extensively this off-season. If the front office is going to market a new QB who would that be? Mallet ot Locker, because we don't have a chance of getting Luck IF he comes out? If the FO wants to just sell tickets they will go out and outbid everyone for Vick. I think the chances of the Bills drafting a QB in the 1st 5 rounds are slim to none, which I will be just fine with. This team needs to prioritize the OLB, DL, RT and TE in this draft or FA, QB has fallen off the list.

  18. only 7 teams have given up more sacks this year than the steelers. Big Ben always takes a lot of sacks, he had 50 last year, 50!

This would mean something to your arguement had the Bills only gotten 3 sacks, but they got 5 which would equate to 80 sacks on a season, 80!

    That is a 60% increase, 60!

  19. Is there a worse TV Analyst than Soloman Wilcots. When I listen to him it drives me nuts. Whatever occurred in the last 3 minutes is what he says is happening the entire game. Bad short term memory I guess. He does not accurately describe what is happening and every once in a while he throws some obscure coaching term into the discussion in order to try to make him sound like he knows something.

IMO he is not even close to being as bad as Theismann or Dierdorf! Dierdorf in my humble opinion can be crowned worst announcer of all sports for all times!

  20. Actually since 2005 (or 2006), they've added a "Writing" section to the exam, also worth 800. Now, the SAT's are composed of 3 sections, each worth 800, for a total of 2400.

A somewhat recent change, and those who haven't taken the exam in years typically haven't noticed, so no big deal.

Whoops... I guess I just aged myself a bit there! Thank you for the clarification.

  21. Well I don't know if you rode your dinosaur to the test in the day but my teacher said I got the highest score in the whole school. 900 out of 1000 is like 90 out of 100 which is an A which is the highest score. I am also pretty smart in IQ that way even better because I have a 93 out of 100.

I don't think you sound like a Jets fan, no you sound more like I Eat Crayons pretending to be a Jets fan to get everyone riled up!

    GO BILLS!
