I guess, but a routine sword could have done the same. I was hoping to see White Walkers shattering from being stabbed by valerian steel and their wight minions exploding as a result. It didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the episode so it’s all good, but for all the talk and build up of the importance of dragon glass and valerian steel to fight the army of the dead, I thought it would play a bigger role.

My guess is that if a WW is struck by valerian steel or dragon glass, they cannot be resurrected.

    * I also didn't understand why they didn't just post up with a dragon atop one of the walls to spit fire at the horde as they were breaching the trenches...

They actually did have a plan, that's why Danny and Jon were watching from a distance to start.  They were supposed to wait for the ice dragon and NK to appear and attack them with both dragons.  But when the dothraki were decimated in the initial charge, Danny's emotions got the better of her and she hopped on her dragon early.

I'm convinced that viewers who pay attention to all of the "fan theories" just set themselves up for disappointment.  What happened was pretty straightforward -- Bran wasn't the NK, the NK wasn't secretly riding his dragon to Kings Landing, etc., etc.

I'm not a fan of today's directors' love affair with "dark" scenes but it's really hard to create a realistic night time battle scene without it being dark.

Closing Melisandre's arc with Arya (and then Sir Davos) was excellent storytelling.

With the Northern army decimated it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I still think Dany dies -- she's no better than her father and shouldn't "win" the throne.

Tyrion and Sansa were my only two predictions of characters who will last the entire show -- that thought was strengthened last night.

I will take your initial advice and pay no attention to your theories...:nana:

Lines in the show you liked best

    Edd and Tormund

"Watch out, he's got blue eyes!"

    I've always had blue eyes!!!

    Sansa and Dany

    "What do dragons eat?"

    "anything they want to"

    Jon and Dany

“You've completely ruined horses for me,

Also, "freeze your balls off" and "not as old as him"

The dragon riding scene was cheesy.

Oh hey, I can ride a dragon too.  And now we're somewhere I used to go as a boy.  Now lets make out in front of your pets.

Cheesy, but significant.  Daenerys didn't share one of her dragons with Jon, she gave Jon Snow that dragon, Rhaegal is his for life now.  That's pretty big, a little better protector than a direwolf.  Huge bond between dragon and rider, hence the stare...

On the heels of Incubus and the Psychedelic Furs - the two previous announcements for the 2019 Canalside Live Concert Series - a powerful double bill has been unveiled for this summer by the water.

The Struts, an English glam-rock band, will be complemented by rapidly rising The Glorious Sons on July 25 at Canalside (44 Prime St.). VIP tickets are on sale now for $35, while general admission tickets - just $5 - will be available at 10 a.m. April 12, also through Eventbrite or at Consumer's Beverages locations and the Canalside info kiosk.

Freddie Mercury-esque frontman Luke Spiller and the rest of The Struts are regulars in the Buffalo area, playing Rapids Theatre each of the last two years. See Smiles from the local fans from 2018 and 2017, plus a photo gallery dedicated to band shots in 2017. Esquire's interview with The Struts last month - entitled "The Struts Are the Glam-Rock Style Gods We Need Right Now" - gives a sense of the band's M.O.

The Glorious Sons, from Kingston, Ont, is a more recent arrival to the scene, selling out Rec Room in February. Those fans were treated to frontman Brett Emmons donning a retro Thurman Thomas Bills jersey on stage during a sweat-drenched set. The band's last full release was 2017's "Young Beauties and Fools," which included mega-hit single "S.O.S." that earned the five-piece a new wave of fans.

  9. Just finished season the 2nd season of Broadchurch, it's about the murder of young boy in a small town.  The first season was good, the second season was very good.  Watched the 1 episode of the 3rd and final season last night and I am not sure where it will go, but overall a very good show.  It's British, takes place in a small town in Ireland, so you have to deal with the accents.  Also, it's more real life actors.  So if you're used to the sexy detective and/or suspects which is generally the case in the US, this isn't the show for you.

A 6 seed means top 24 so not too bad...hard to put UB ahead of any of the 5s.  Texas Tech is a tough 2nd round matchup because of great D but they're not world beaters.  Gotta love the chance for a first round matchup with Arizona State/Hurley.  You know the committee chuckled at that one.

I agree, they were never in discussion for a 4.  Plus 6 seeds historically have more final 4 appearances than 5's, so I am good with it.  Still the highest seeding for a MAC team ever.  As for the Hurley/Oats match up, there is also a possible father/son AD matchup with Duke and UCF (former UB AD).  So it's laughable that the committee states they don't think about match up story lines...

We currently have 65 players on the roster with our new free agent signings.  I believe that number includes ten players from last year's practice squad, so more accurately 55 + 10 practice squad.  Next month we will be adding ten draft picks to the roster bringing us to 65 + 10.  Assuming that only half of our draft picks make the final roster (which I hope is a low estimate) that means we need to cut 17 players from the current roster.

Right now available roster spots is becoming a bigger limitation than remaining cap space $$$.  Every free agent signed means another cut to the roster.  I'm sure Beane is weighing this consideration as he continues to shop for new free agents.

Below is a link to a web site called sportrac that lists the entire current 65 man roster.  There is a "Release" button next to every player on the roster that allows you to cut players from the roster like you're a GM.  There is box on the right hand side of the page that keeps track of your totals.  Find 17 cuts on that roster right now to get to 48 roster spots (assuming 5 currently unlisted draftees make the final roster).  At some point you're no longer cutting fat, your cutting meat from the roster.  It's not easy to find 17 to cut, and once again, that assumes only keeping 5 out of the 10 draft picks.

We can roll some cap money over to next year and use to some to extend current players.  Looking at it from a roster point of view, I think our free agency is just about done.  Maybe Ziggy or one other player and thats it.

Who are your 17 cuts from the roster to get to 48?

Nice article in the Buffalo News on how Perkins has matured through the years and why he comes off the bench...

    https://buffalonews.com/2019/03/14/ub-mens-basketball-nick-perkins-mac-tournament-ncaa-sixth-man-2019/

    Becoming the sixth man

Perkins started 22 games in his first two seasons at UB, but Oats noticed how Perkins was eager. Sometimes, too eager. Perkins made mistakes, or committed early fouls that limited his playing time later in the game.

Oats and his staff figured out how to make Perkins his most effective: turn him into the first player off the bench. The sixth man.

Perkins usually watches the first few minutes of the game from the bench, and enters the game during the fourth or fifth minute. He brings an edge to the team when he steps onto the court.

In an 80-57 win against Kent State on Feb. 22, Perkins boosted an offense that, at one point, moved at a snail's crawl. The Bulls had scored 10 points in the first 9:32, and were on pace to finish with around 40 points, an uncharacteristically low total for a team that leads the MAC in scoring offense (85 points per game).

UB guard CJ Massinburg recalled how, a few minutes after Perkins entered the game and immediately told his teammates on the floor that "we've got to pick up the pace here."

"That's not like us, because we're a team that picks up a lot of points," Massinburg said. "He let us know that we needed to do a better job of that."

Then, in the final 1:15 of the first half, Perkins sparked a 10-point swing in which he scored eight of his game-high 27 points.

“At the beginning of the game, everybody can be a little eager and excited, but he gets to see how the other team is playing, how we’re playing and what he has to do,” Massinburg said of Perkins. “Every time he checks in, he gives us some kind of insight from what he sees, off the bench.”

Perkins’ maturation and unselfishness on the floor have stood out to Massinburg.

“His first couple years, he’d shoot it, no matter what happens,” Massinburg said. “But now, one thing it does for him, it opens up the floor. If we’re hitting open threes off his passes, then the double-team can’t come anymore and now he knows he can get his shots off.”

But Perkins’ fiery nature has also burned the Bulls.

Me and a buddy are flying in Friday. There will be two "official" UB bars by the arena: Southern Tier Brewery and Panini's. Tickets are $34 per day. The MACC never sells out so you could decide at the spur of the moment to drive down from Buffalo. Let's pack that dump with UB Blue!

Sweet, thanks for the info!  Even though I love a good panini, how can the Harry Buffalo not be the place to be for UB?  Plus it's a snowballs throw to the Q.  At any rate, I most likely will be there in my UB Blue!!!
