  1. this stuff fascinates me - I'd love to have the resources to set one of these up and crunch the numbers (actually it's not that hard, i'd just need the time). anyway - i guess the daily show didn't do as well as last time when their viewers were smarter than the foxnews people. I'm with Kelly - i would have thought it was under 18%. I'd also like to see the results by income, sex, race, favorite football team etc.
  2. esquire had an article a few years ago about a guy who spent 3 months just trying to see what he could get with $20. It was pretty funny - everything from better tables at restaurants, upgrades and driving an NYC street sweeper at 3am.
  3. there are plenty of racists out there, but like everyone else said they are already accounted for in the polls. If Hilary was running I think a lot of the "racist" crew would vote for her, but she is plenty polarizing in her own right. I do find it curious that 95% of blacks are voting for Obama though.
  4. the good news in all of this is that you can vote for president of the united states with no proof of citizenship or photo ID.
  5. Do I think the top brass at Acorn sits around and says "how can we register more fake people to get them to vote"? Not exactly. Do I think a lot of local ACORN managers (who are certainly Obama supporters) look the other way and give a wink wink when all sorts of funny stuff comes in? Absolutely. Do I think that today in downtown philadelphia and pittsburgh, and in random rural towns in Ohio that the local political bosses are scanning the voter roles, and figuring out shenanigans to commit voter fraud? Absolutely.
  6. are you really arguing with me that a BJ's card is an effective way to make sure someone is a citizen of the united states who lives at the address they state? How about a "rent receipt" - that would probably be a difficult one to fake. you obviously don't live in the world of down and dirty politics and haven't seen what I have seen. When in a local political election I see 200+people get paid $60 to "work"for a campaign for an afternoon, and those people don't get paid until they provide their voter number - I'm pretty sure those people are getting paid to vote. Or when a homeless guy gets handed an index card with a name on it and $10 to go vote, and then gets caught at the polls because a poll challenger knew the guy he said he was, I'm pretty sure it happens. a good friend of mine, also a bills fan, and a HUGE Obama supporter was involved in this campaign far more than I was, and he would be the first to tell you that voter fraud is real. But because an issue is brought up by "the other side" it must be bullsh*t, right?
  7. In New Jersey shoppers club cards are accepted. I kid you not. http://www.state.nj.us/state/elections/vote_id_req.html seriously - if you guys think that if new jersey was in play that the local political bosses weren't doing everything in their power to make votes happen you are smoking crack. And I'm sure this is happening with both sides right now in PA and Ohio.
  8. ahh, I'm a conspiracy nut. I bring up specific examples of how voter fraud happens, that I have seen with my own two eyes and I'm a conspiracy nut. I bring it up without any context of political parties - I don't believe I even mentioned democrat or republican in the entire thread. (For the record, the campaign I volunteered for was a democrat vs. democrat race.) and I'm a nut. I also have a problem with voter intimidation and misinformation. You on the other hand are too blinded by your ideology to see that sometimes BOTH sides bring up good points, and that just because the republicans bring up a point doesn't mean it is wrong.
  9. Sure, they all have what they call "registration verification" but what does that mean exactly? It means that if you don't have a passport, a drivers license or a real government issued ID you can present your BJ's membership card and vote for the president of the United States. God Bless America.
  10. Uh, no you didn't. I said: and you said: and I gave you an example of how it could happen. This was based on my specific experiences. yes, that is definitely what is going on. I'm just a conspiracy nut. I haven't watched this stuff happen with my own eyes. I don't live in what is quite possibly the most corrupt county in the country. I don't live in a state where anyone can register to vote for president, and then present their BJ's membership card or a "rent receipt" as proof of ID. don't worry folks, everything is fine. And don't worry about the 30,000 felons still on the voting rolls in florida - there is no way a few thousand votes could ever make a difference in an election.
  11. Sorry Max, you are wrong. In New Jersey you can register to vote by mail, and if you don't give your social security # or drivers license number all you need to do when you go to vote is to show someone at the polling place some form of ID. As I mentioned before, there aren't many qualifications to be a poll worker - and here in Hoboken many of them are dumb as dirt. All it takes is someone who doesn't care, doesn't notice or is "on your side" to look at your "ID" and you are all set. This is the same whether you are in the housing projects in Hoboken or in the sticks of Georgia. Yellow - I have also seen intimidation, and agree that it is horrible no matter who is doing it. In our election, we had the other side send around a guy (convicted felon and former mayor of Jersey City!) to bang on doors and try to get people to say that a certain signature wasn't theirs and so on. This didn't work well in the condo buildings with people who told him to f off, but in the housing projects this guy targeted people who supported us, and would threaten that they would be thrown out unless they admitted to it. I'm actually pretty amazed that most people are brushing this off, and saying it's no big deal. While T.O. probably won't be voting in Las Vegas, you are dead wrong if you think that there aren't orchestrated efforts to commit voter fraud in this country.
  12. how about my specific examples, that are more than "boogeyman scare tactics". Based on my specific experiences, I am confident that a list of bogus names could easily make it onto the voter rolls in certain areas.
  13. I'm guessing the answer is yes and yes. Are you somehow implying that it isn't that big of a problem?
  14. You only need to present ID the first time you vote, after that you don't need to show anything. And that is the law, what actually happens at the polling place is a whole different story. My polling place is run by people who couldn't get hired at mcdonalds. The main point I'm trying to show is that voter fraud isn't something to brush off - it is real, I've seen it up close, and it happens in all sorts of different ways.
  15. A quick story to give you an idea of some of the ways voter fraud works since I see some people saying "it's no big deal" in the ACORN thread. I volunteered a bit on an election in Hoboken, NJ last year. On election day our opponent - who got most of his support from the housing projects in hoboken, would hire 350+ people to "work" on his campaign on election day. These people would wear t-shirts, hold signs and stand out in the street to "work" for the candidate. But they key piece of this is that in order to get the $60 for the day, they had to tell the paymaster their voter number (when you vote you get a number). The point of this was effectively to a) make sure the person voted and b) to scare the person into thinking via their voter number they would know who they voted for. It also highly illegal. Another trick that we watched was the head of Hoboken Housing Authority put people from other parts of town on the lease in our part of town where the election was being held. Voila - magical new voters appeared out of thin air. Don't forget about people who had moved out of town long ago magically voting, or the homeless people caught being paid to vote. This is par for the course for Hoboken Politics and happens every year (to give you some insight - this was for a 9 block by 9 block "ward" city council seat, and the 2 candidates spent almost $250,000 between the 3 elections (main election, run off and court ordered re-do). This is also par for the course for New Jersey Politics, and I'd imagine a LOT of other places around the country. If you don't think voter fraud is a big deal you are nuts, especially in a country where GWB won because of 500 votes in Florida. Not being required to show ID to vote has to be one of the dumber f*cking things I have ever heard.
  16. before I logged in the ad on this page was "date arab women online"
  17. You forgot to mention running against the least popular administration in memory, and vs a less than stellar candidate. If this was Hilary, she'd be up by 15%. Let's not kid ourselves - if Obama was down by 5%, he'd be in the cesspool too.
  18. you don't see anything wrong with the quote? You don't think it's a little coarse?
  19. How do they account for people who only have cell phones? A lot of young people / college students etc who are probably leaning heavily towards obama probably don't have land lines.... just curious how they account for this since I've never received a poll on my cell phone....
  20. she is surpassing my expectations, which were set pretty low. if she had been at this for 5 months instead of 5 weeks this would be a whole different ballgame.
  21. such a cop out stance for obama / biden. I love how they ignore the question and just talk about what they want to. Especially palin - I think she answered a question about mortgages with an answer about clean energy. She isn't nearly as bad as the media and dems have hoped, the only question is whether she will comfort enough people who are up in the air and leaning towards mccain but are afraid to vote for him.
  22. i saw mcguire hit #62 in st. louis - it was pretty awesome. btw - they didn't find steroids in his locker. it was just andro, which was mcguire's smoke screen for the real roids.
  23. do you think the middle class is paying more now than they were 8 years ago? Corporations may not be paying more either, but I don't think the middle class is either. luckily, deficit spending solves everything
  24. i own a small business. Do you want me to pay higher taxes or lower taxes. please explain.
