1. My only hope is if Marv somehow convinced Jauron of the Marv Levy theory of coaching rather than the Dick Jauron theory of coaching, and convinced Dick of the advantages of the Delegator in Chief. That there are so many things a head coach has to do to motivate the team, and to prepare for the game, and to let your coordinators deal with the majority of the game-planning and play-calling. It worked pretty well for Marv (although was somewhat his ultimate downfall). I don't doubt Dick Jauron is a very smart guy. He was a terrific, tough player in his day. He probably does have a lot of respect from his players. He could likely handle that role pretty well. Sharp, Ivy league brains doesn't necessarily translate to football smarts as in schemes and play-calling, and DJ has rarely exhibited them.

I think this question may be answered by this afternoon or as soon as the coordinators are announced. If Dick goes back to his cronies, I think we're screwed. If Caldwell or some new, fresh blood is brought in on offense and defense to run the show, we may have a chance.

So our GM has to coach our new coach?

    Mike Sherman was over qualified!

  2. There's a very good chance they were actually laughing at your inability to unite proper spelling and good grammar with a coherent thought.

If you quit typing now, and quit being a fan as well, people will stop laughing at you. And apparently that's what this is all about. You being laughed at.

I'm glad spelling is so important.. So if DICK can spell, does that make him a good coach???

Makes sense... It all comes down to spelling!

  3. Marv (with a snicker on his face): Knock, Knock

Fans (all excited about 2006): Who's there?

    Marv (almost laughing): 0

    Fans (looking confused) 0 who?

Marv (laughing out load...knowing no Bills team will win the Super Bowl during his lifetime): 0-16

Fans (looking depressed): No one circles the wagons like Buffalo...Where are the wagons?

  4. It's to the point where you just have to laugh at how ridiculous this franchise has become.  The good news is, that Ralph doesn't give a ****, otherwise this would kill 'im.

Ha Ha Ha.. that's true.. at least they are funny!

If the Bills are not going to win.. at least they should be a hoot to watch!

  5. bad move!

The team is young, and as bad as our D played last year we are one run stopping DT and a healhty TKO away from playing respectable Defence.

For the last 3 years the bills offense has been inept, this whole last season there wasn't a game where a QB threw over 300 yards, or a wideout that dominated a game ala steve smith, or a HUGE monster game by willis.

This coaching move was CRITICAL to the development of JP, and I think the bills muffed this call. Giving Mike Sherman the HC position, and then bringing in DJ as a DC would have been sound, but since we messed that up, all the 'good' OC have been giving head coaching jobs, so now whose gonna fill that gap?

I hopefully DJ makes some great coaching acquisitions, and assembles a great staff. But with a lot of coaching already finding jobs, the pickings are SLIM...

this might be another bad year folks... :D

    579962

might be a bad year???  understatement

  6. 19 wins and 29 loses

    1st year- 6-10 rebuilding year

2nd year 8-8- wow, coach of the YEAR

3rd year 5-11- and DICK will most likely be under contract for two more years

But since we are all such good and loyal fans.. we will smile, cheer and shell out our hard earned $$ to watch Dick get out coached, out played and out matched!!!

    Silver lining= high draft picks!

  7. Marv: "I like Jauron, I already know him and I'm sure we'll have a great working relationship. He is the guy."

Ralph: "Dick is a defensive guy who never really proved much as a HC. I want to bring in a name, a guy who can get this offense back on track, a guy we can get excited about. You can't deny Mike Sherman had the best interview, has the best plan, and has the record to back it up. There is nothing you can do to change my mind Marv. I'm sticking to my guns on this one."

Marv: "Sherman wants 3.5 million. We can sign Dick for about half of that, if not less."

Ralph: "Well Marv, since you know the guy already..."

    579706

Ralph will probably give him a 5 yr contract... that will guarentee his job for 3 or 4 years...

  8. Can't disagree with this post of yours. But you can understand my frustration after having seen the local fans reaction for DJ during those losing years. I am just PO'ed that e hired a proven loser than a proven winner.

    579657

Bills hired a proven loser as coach, becasue they have a proven loser as owner... Here is hoping the HOF never grants good ole Ralphie a bust

  9. Jauron's hiring comes down to these factors:

...Wilson hired somebody to be GM whom he felt he could trust.

...Marv hired somebody he could trust which does not necessarily mean

he hired the best man....If Jauron falls down with years remaining on his contract Marv could step in.  Easy to convince Ralph that would be the way to say $.

...Sherman was a danger to Marv  because of his GM ability.

This was a no-brainer for Marv whose primary focus is MARV.

    579925

Marv = TD and it will be a good day when he leaves town also

  10. The Buffalo Bills have been run like a fantasy team for the fans over the last five years.  Lots of flash and good PR, but no character.  Need to get the fans excited, trade for an over-the-hill Bledsoe and watch the fans come out like he's Jim Kelly.  Need another shot of adreneline, sign an aging Lawyer Milloy in 2003.  Fans hate Gregg Williams, fire him.  Fans want a hot new QB, draft Losman.  Fans sick of Bledsoe and want hot young QB, dump Bledsoe.  And the fans lapped it up, selling out every game in 2005, while the team sunk to new depths.

Now we have a new sheriff in town named Marv Levy, who has a very different approach.  We are going to build this team right, from the bottom up with quality, character players.  Not everyone will be from that lack of character institution--the University of Miami--we'll get some quality guys.  We will build the lines-- so we can block and tackle.  We will get the fundamentals right.

Enter Dick Jauron.  Certainly no flash there.  But by every account a quality man who players will play for.  Oh, and he went to Yale, so he's likely smart, and can learn from his mistakes.  And he's high character, and a teacher.  And he knows the value of a stout D-line.

So what do many on this board want--run him out of town.  Why, because we did not hire the flashier, instant gratification candidate in Mike Sherman.  And truth be told as much as the fans say they hated TD at the end, they in fact miss his "give the fans what they want" approach, even if they don't know anything about building a winning business, much less a football team.  All they know is that they want to make a big splash today, so the media will say nice things about us.

I am tired of the TD approach.  I am tired of the push for instant gratification.  I want to see teams, like those when Levy coached, who know how to take a punch and get back up and fight some more.  I want a team that beats Miami when the QB finds a way into the end zone on the last play, not one that loses on the last play.  Levy knew character and quality before.  I think he still does.  And while Jauron may not be flashy, he has the brains and character that this team so desperately needs right now.

    579193

I'm sure glad it is about character and not win and losses...

hope your happy with a high character guy who the players will play for when this team puts up double diget loses the next three years

  11. OK. I’ll admit.. I’m probably overreacting to the hiring of Dick. No one knows how he will do in 2006. I’ve made it clear I never wanted to see him on the Bills sideline. My overreaction even got me on a list..

I’ve read how fans are not going to renew NFL Sunday Ticket

    Not renew Season Tickets

    Switch to another team

And even jump off a bridge.

But seriously. I doubt any of these knee jerk reactions are anything more then “frustration”

When it comes time to renew NFL Season Ticket. Most of us will do so… Maybe not at first.. But we will. Most of us will renew our Season Tickets or at least go to as many games as we can afford or travel to. The thought of switching loyalty to another team is absurd. If you have followed the Bills for any length of time. There is no way you can turn back. Blessing or curse, you’re a fan for life. As far as jumping from a bridge. Highly unlikely. If you do, then I would suspect deeper emotional issues then the Buffalo Bills. Why, because we are Bills fans. The same fans who love that ESPN commercial because it is funny but so true. We live and die by our team. We feel we deserve the best and we probably do.

I say all of that to say, “This is a message board.. A place to vent frustration and celebrate victory” If you are sticking by the team during this horrible period in Bills history, Relax, when others give opinions. If your like me and you have over reacted a bit to DICK.. I suppose when push comes to shove, We’ll give him a chance. Why, because were Bills fans and we all want to see our team regain their status of and NFL elite team.

  12. Which is EXACTLY why this choice sucks.  This isn't abut who is taking an 8-8 or 9-7 team to the next level - it is about piecing back together a broken organization and a furious fanbase. That is why this hire sucks.

    578526

Great point! I can not believe This is who Marv is going to hire. This shows that both Marv and Ralph are totally out of touch with the fan base. Should that matter? Yes.. fans are the customers.

    Bills Suck= pissed off fans
