Jefferson gets paid: 4yr, $140m contract signed
MikePJ76 replied to KingBoots8's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes of course if the Bills are in a situation next year where there is a top wr when they pick they should do it or consider it. My point is I view it as bad business to give up valuable resources and then make that wr the highest paid at his position creating a savior situation. It just never works. I will say though if you are about to pick and you know the player you pick is going to be great (you never do I know) and your choices were Jefferson, Aaron Donald or Chris jones.....I am taking Donald or Jones 100 out of 100 times because that is the more important position and the teams that win championships are better up front than outside almost always. Sometimes that does not work also, for instance the 98 cowboys took greg ellis over randy moss. In fairness Moss has as many championships as my mom and I do so... -

They are going to come for you for this so get ready to duck but yes in essence you have pointed out what I believe. Its as old and tested as anything in the nfl. The team with the good quarterback AND that is good in the trenches is going to beat the teams in the postseason with all the fancy parts outside and weak spots inside. It happens every year in the nfl and always has. now in september and october those fancy parts outside teams win a lot of football games...then post thanksgiving those teams who are better in the trenches win more games. The chiefs last season are exhibit A. Andy Reid's teams have all looked the same in philly and in kc, excellent upfront on both sides of the ball and that is why they are always in contention. Coupling that with a mahomes brought him champhionships, coupling it with mcnabb brought him division titles. So you need the QB first and then the trenches have to be excellent second. jmo and I have seen nothing that changes my opinion except for a few teams in history who have won on offense like the 98 Rams and the 06 Colts. -

No absolutely not. He would elevate the passing game for sure. More than likely him, kincaid and this running game would be a complete nightmare for defensive coordinators to prepare for in theory. However I do not view him as a savior either. What it would cost to have him and pay him would probably limit the team in other places forcing him to have to be a savior and hence the problem and why most of these teams with the big expensive #1 WR have no championships. -

Yes weapons. I view the offense as a group, imo you need a group that performs well together where everyone has a role. The #1 wr craze is adverse to that imo and the results speak for themselves. These expensive #1 guys almost never win championships. -

I feel like we have our signals crossed. I have been mostly joking around about the importance of a #1 wr but it seems you are serious. I need to reread what you wrote and thats on me... for the record. Jefferson is a great player but I will go to my deathbed in believing that it is just a glory position and not high on the list of importance in winning a championship. -

well kirk cousins threw for 4500 yards, 29 td's and 14 interceptions and won at buffalo in that same 22 season. -

Keon's cousin in Dallas must have spiked a football when he saw this today. He is going to get the same money as jefferson I bet. -

Just like having 1 of Jefferson. It hasn't mattered. They have won nothing. He has made the playoffs once and got outscored by a Daniel Jones led Offense at home. It really should. They are going to get hammered in that division. -

after Cousins was hurt and he led them to a division title and a championship it makes perfect sense. Yes I posted this in the other thread too. -
Impossible. Justin Jefferson is a #1 WR and the best in the league.
-
The vikings said hold on we can pay more than that and paid Jefferson. Which makes perfect sense because after cousins was hurt last year Jefferson carried the Vikings to a division title and a championship.
-
give him whatever he wants. He is a #1 wr. This is the most important position in all of sports. At least that is what it seems like I read here and on the internet
-
What is the point of this? They already have one guy who is just there to make the league look good. This signing is absurd.
-
As a man in my 40's I can relate. I sat too long in the same position last night watching the Yankees game and I too was limping when I finally got up. It sucks getting old.
-
Its all about the offensive system they play in. They have good players and an excellent play caller in the leagues best system. They play inside most of the year. Stroud is going to have a monster year. I expect to lead the league in multiple categories. I can't remember the name of the player but there is a player who was with shanahan I think in Washington and he said in regards to the offense, if the qb knows even a little of what he is doing the offense is idiot proof. This is why guys like RGIII had great years in that system. Will they win their division, the afc or a super bowl....I have no idea but I am very confident they are going to throw the ball all over the building every week and rack up some incredible numbers. Yea cook is the lead guy. I was not that impressed his first year but last year he turned inside and ran the ball better. It felt like to me the rookie year he was running the sideline to much. He was way better last year. I am hoping this becomes running back by committee though and Davis is given a ton of carries, especially late in the game when the Bills have a lead. It's going to be fun to see how they go about it.
-
man i have to say I am super horny for Ray Davis. Liked him when I read about and watched him and then being told what I was about him last week in regards to another team that wanted him.....I can't wait to see him play. Cook is the guy here but Davis is going to have a great season. I can not wait to see the role they create for him.
-
I don't know but I feel like they have a little more size this year and maybe less speed. I think the safeties are bigger and with rasul douglas the full time starter he is a bigger player or at least plays bigger. I think they are going to be very good against the run and exceptionally good once milano is healthy and returns. I just am worried about this group getting pressure on quarterbacks. It doesn't seem like they have anyone who is going to really be an issue for an offense to worry about going into games. Hopefully that changes.
-
He is going to have a huge season. I really don't see anyway barring injury they are not a top 3 offense from a production standpoint. He might throw for like 5000 plus yards and lead the league. The system he plays in basically guarantees he will be extremely productive and limit turnovers. Only the really terrible qb's turn the ball over in that system.

Texans WR Nico Collins gets 3 year $72 Million extension

Bobbly Slowik and the shanahan offense had a lot to do with it also. -
that numbering system of the 1 the 2 etc...means nothing. Those guys are all going to get the ball in houston plus schultz will get a bunch too. They are all going to get a role and be productive in that offense playing most of their games inside in domes. They play inside in 11 games, they play in only 1 potential bad weather game at KC in december. Stroud is going to throw it all over the place all year. Bobby Slowik is running Shanahan's system, the best offensive system in the league. They are going to use a bunch of different formations with those same guys and they are all going to make plays.

What to do with the post June $10 M that will be available
MikePJ76 replied to Magox's topic in The Stadium Wall
they would then have to extend him in order to get him under this years cap. Seems like the kind of thing they are openly going away from at the moment. Hard to understand why Dan Quinn would want to trade away a guy like allen at this point in the year, seems like that would have been something they would have done before the draft. They would be sick if something happens to one of the other two tackles and they traded away Allen. Maybe next offseason when he has a year left on his deal that would make more sense. having said that if someone was willing to move a 2 or 3 for him it would be really hard to pass up I imagine. -

seems they have to just hang tight in case of injury through the summer and start of the season. I really hope they exhaust every potential defensive lineman possibility. Yannick Ngakoue had a good 22 and was not as productive in 23. If they could sign him and get the 22 version that had 9 sacks and 8 tfl he would be worth it on a 1 year deal that made sense. -
Its possible but it kind of feels to me that the team has three name players who either wont make the team or will make the team but not be a factor at all. Claypool, Collins and Miller. They will all get attention in camp and in the end will probably not be here or will not make any bit of difference.
