    You have a strange-looking groin...

On the broader topic of the NFL and tattoos, did they ask Dion Dawkins what he would do?

That's rough. Information literacy education never kept up with the proliferation of the internet. Education in general, really, wasn't prepared to combat intellectual laziness. And here we are.

Add to the above, the increase in willful ignorance and the growth of the anti-education movement mixed with a rising apathy for truth. Some people will believe anything (particularly if it supports their emotional biases) and others don't have the motivation or intellectual endurance to to seek something approximate to the truth.

They generally have people to fact check stuff

I understand the mention of Sports Illustrated as lending credence to the story. There was a time when they boasted a stable of writers such as Pat Forde, Peter Gammons, Frank DeFord, Rick Reilly, and Peter King... Sports Illustrated represented the pinnacle of sports journalism.

Sports Illustrated is now a brand, operated under a license. They do not have an editorial board and they're on the brink of bankruptcy. It's been nearly a decade since they had any credibility.

As far as local country music radio stations disseminating news, let the buyer beware.

Another thing I thought about…playing Cinci late in the season means more time for the “new” secondary to gel.  If the Bills’ revamped defense is going to be what we hope, by that point in the season they should be humming.

Not to mention, the new, improved pass rush.

That leaves 5 remaining games as the toss-ups, which could probably go either way:

Not complaining, but a couple negatives that I don’t see anyone bringing up thus far: we play @Atlanta and @NE following THEIR bye weeks.

We also play @Miami and Cincy (home) when they will be on 10 days rest (because they will be coming off Thursday night games against Baltimore in both cases).

Good points but on balance I think this is one of the most favorable schedules in recent history... certainly in my memory (which isn't saying much... so disregard).

Rasul Douglas is confusing to me - i had heard the Bills did offer him a contract at what they thought was reasonable to the degree that he can compete for a backup job but was told they want to go another direction as a starter. perhaps that was enoguh for both sides not to actually extend the offer but douglas has been tagged by teammates to come back and given credit for addign to the team. with white being back i think it is less likely.

It's a moot point as the ship has left the embarcadero and I see where he's now talking to Seattle but... (and I'm preparing to be shot down by the militants who are vehemently against what I'm musing about)... Rasul would be a perfect candidate to move to Safety in his late career.

He's got plenty of size (6'2" and 209 lbs) AND he's quite good at reading the QB and making plays on throws.

    Same this year.

As we all know the Strength of Schedule is often misleading as it's based on last year's W-L records and doesn't take into account ascending teams but... it still looks like a pretty easy schedule to me.

Let me ask a question to answer yours. If one of them were to be deleted from the roster prior to the draft, who would it be?

    Imo, Cook.

I'm not understanding your point. Deleted? You mean a choice between?

Before or after the draft... ???? Can you explain why you're introducing that variable?

Plain and simple, for the same contract that Shakir just got I would rather have Cook.

    Does that answer your question?

    What am I missing?

People have been treating the position like anyone is easily replaced, yet time & time again RBs come along that prove this untrue. Henry & Saquon deserve to be paid like the star players they are.

It's why I'm annoyed that Bills fans don't want to pay James Cook $13 - $15 million a year. After wasting years of Josh Allen's career trying to find a running game, they finally found a guy that can provide one. For a position that's supposedly a "dime a dozen" & easy to replace, the Bills failed time & time again to establish a legit run game.

Meanwhile, under-performing defensive players, who were already getting paid more than Cook (despite Cook having significantly higher impact on the team's success) get extended & paid way more. Buffalo just extended Rousseau to a $20 million a year contract... with his whopping 6 sacks a season. But nah, don't pay the guy who contributed 1,200+ yards & 18 total TDs, because he's "JUST" a RB.

And this is after Josh Allen's passing numbers dropped significantly, which in turn reduced his huge amount of turnovers, leading to our best scoring offense ever, all because we had a reliable run game. But instead we'll extend defensive players that didn't do jack against the Chiefs in the playoffs (again).

You know who DID carry his weight in the playoffs? James Cook.

Agree 100%. There's lots of ways of looking at value.

Here's a question... how would you rank the MVPs on the Bills?

    2 hours ago, DrDawkinstein said:

Even at 50% of the snaps, the only player on Offense that touched the ball more than Cook was Josh.

Cook had 207 carries and 32 receptions. He had the ball 239 times. He accounted for 1267 yards and 18 TDs.

Shakir, who just got $15M/yr, and just had his best year yet, had 78 total touches, 825 yds, and 4 TDs.

Roughly 1/3 the total production depending how you want to look at it.

Point is, the snap count/usage/value argument doesnt hold water.

    Great point.

Same question as above but more specifically... is Shakir more valuable than Cook?

What’s the story with Wande Owens featured in the BN today? ( paywall can’t read)

The story makes it sound as though Owens should have been a 1st round pick…lol.  But seriously, it just talks about his leadership at Yale and then for a short time at UNH.  The kid’s obviously smart, and his former coaches think he “will make any team better.”

His Defensive Coordinator at New Hampshire said “He broke decades-long strength records in three months at New Hampshire” and “He’s the type of person you want to build your team around."

He said furthermore, “I don’t know what you do with him. I don’t know where you put him. (But) there’s zero chance he doesn’t make the team better. He’s going to adapt to whatever you ask him to do. He’s going to work exceptionally hard at it, and he’s going to do so to the best of his ability, and his ability is pretty special.”

Apparently Owens played both cornerback and safety and was a team captain at Yale (before transferring to UNH). Yale head coach Tony Reno told the Yale athletics website. “Wande is an exceptional player and an outstanding leader. The Buffalo Bills are getting a great one.”

Pretty much all the scouting services had him ranked as an undrafted free agent. One had him ranked as the 21st undrafted safety.

That was the double kick in the mouth for Josh... living so close to Fresno he grew up a Bulldogs fan and as a high school player he used to attend the Fresno State football camps and got to know the coaching staff and the Carrs... but they wouldn't offer him a scholarship... so he said he would walk on without a scholarship and they told him they were all set at quarterback... so he went to Reedley College for a year and starred there... and after that, Fresno State still wouldn't give him the time of day.

When the new Fresno State head football coach Jeff Tedford was being introduced, the AD or college president or someone remarked at the news conference, "... and by the way, Coach Tedford knows where Firebaugh, California is" or something to that effect.

To start, I am not banging the table saying either are great quarterbacks, but they are clearly capable of starting in the NFL.  They may not be great, by any means, but they are way better than who the Saints and Steelers plan on putting on the field.

Granted, the Giants just signed Winston, but then signed Russel (named the starter) and drafted Dart.   The Saints took a guy in the second round, but he is far from a sure bet of being NFL ready, let alone week 1 ready.

Am I missing something here.  How are the Saints and Steelers not all over these trades?  I can’t imagine the asking price is big.  If in a fan of either team,  dreading this upcoming season as is.  If in a HC of either team, am I not also fighting for me job?  Granted Tomlin appears to be untouchable at times, but for how long?

    Just thoughts.

    The Saints are probably tanking.

    The Steelers are possibly tanking.

And, trading for Winston after he could have been signed as a free agent? That would be an admission of incompetence.

Once his athleticism fades, he will fall off quickly.

As for Starks, he wants an INT off the best QB on the planet......what defender doesn't want that?? Wanting an interception is one thing, but getting one is quite another.

You really believe that Lamar can't read defenses pre-snap or throw to his second or third read?

As far as the "placebo effect":

    • By most definitions calling it such means that it did actually have an effect. If it had no effect it would not qualify as a placebo.
    • As others have pointed it out, there's no way to measure it HOWEVER, to say that bulletin board material NEVER has a motivating aspect to it is preposterous. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't... case by case.
