This deal is basically the same payout as Chandler Jones got from the Raiders...so everything seems on par as long as we have an out after 3 yrs.

6 years?? Hope he's still worth 20 mil/year at age 35.

They had a working formula last year but it just did not work. Not one of 7-8 guys was able to get to Mahomes the one time that was needed. Need to go all in for one big time pass rusher.
I just don't like the Bills philosophy of build for depth and rotation. I would rather over pay a genuine playmaker and take the risk that he'll stay healthy all year than have a 4 player depth chart of mediocrity for the same value.

To win 4 straight, the probability is .7x.7x.7x.7= 24%
Reduce your percentages to a coin flip 50/50 against equally competitive teams and Bills have just a 6% chance of winning SB. So yeah, banking everything on one year doesn't sound wise in that scenario.

De'Vondre Campbell was far more productive than Edmunds in 2021 so if we're making that comparison and paying for productivity, not some false hope of potential, then no. 3 yrs 28 would be best offer I would be okay with to extend him.

More time the offense spends on the field, the better the defense looks

Wouldn't have expected it, but according to ESPN, Michael Vick also had hand size measured just 8.5 inches. On the flip side Josh Allen has the second largest hands in the NFL next to Russel Wilson at 10.15 inches

Should be an easy decision for the packers. They traded up to draft his replacement. Now trade him and give his replacement something to work with. Unlessssssss….. his replacement his a bum named Jordan Love. Sucks for the pack
Packers had no problem dumping Favre for Rodgers when they drafted him. Will probably be same scenario

I think he’s a rather easily replaceable player at a much cheaper contract and doesn’t move the needle for the team whatsoever.
He’s not a huge bust. He’s not a great player. He’s somewhere in between good and average MLB. The money he will get can absolutely be better served else where such as at a position that does impact wins and losses(WR, CB, pass rusher)
Just because fans aren’t on the same page as the team doesn’t mean the team is right…. This regime has already proven they can be overly loyal to their own players and draft picks and be quite wrong about it.
Right.
If Edmunds purpose in our defensive scheme is not to make impact plays but solely to prevent big gains in the middle of the field, he hasn't even done that very well this season. I'd like to find a stat on this somewhere but I remember watching at least two games this season where we have given up season long plays to opposing team players down the middle of the field. One was the Derrick Henry 76 yd TD run(his longest of season) and I think both Mahomes and Edwards-Helaire had season long runs against the Bills. I'm sure there are plenty of others.
We could honestly probably throw Tyrel Dodson or Mario Addison out there for majority of snaps and not see much drop-off in play.

SMDH. Look, if Edmunds is absolutely a bust, and at best a servicable linebacker, why on earth would any other team trade him for a "more dominant and developed linebacker"? If he's a bust, we'd be trading him for a low pick and needing to trade high value resources for a "more dominant and developed" LB.
So you're saying Edmunds is worth $12 million per year?
This is my opinion, but aside from corner, MLB is our most pressing need on D. I'm good with drafting a CB. I'm good with drafting OL. Playing ILB in our defensive scheme is a lot more challenging and having someone who already is a proven playmaker and has experience is a huge bonus especially since most of our defensive draft picks in recent years haven't lived up to expectations. So yeah, I'm cool with trading Edmunds for a 2nd or 3rd round pick, picking up a mid tier UFA who will sign for less to replace him and perform better. It's quite possible other teams might over value him anyway just due to his athletic ability.

For where he was drafted and his current contract, Edmunds is absolutely a bust. He could surely be a serviceable LB somewhere in the league but that's it. He's not worth more than $6-8 million a year with his current performance. I'd prefer the Bills trade him for a more dominant and developed MLB instead of drafting another prospect.

A more aggressive defensive scheme and a play maker or two on defense. Not even all-pro type guys. Just some marginal improvement. I thought Edmunds was going to become one but he's not. He has all the physical tools but his instincts just seem to run him out of the play too often. Maybe he'd be better or even excel in a 3-4 alignment defense? Draft a CB 1st or 2nd round opposite White. Maybe one of the 1st or 2nd year players transforms into a top player but the clocks ticking here and the window is open right now.
We need guys that play with more intensity on D. Aside from seeing Edmunds out of position on every other play I'm also so sick of seeing him just stop pursuing mid way through plays. Never puts his hands up to deflect passes even when the ball is thrown 6 inches over his head. The guy is an utter letdown.
Also pretty sad that we can't have an Aaron Donald caliber player on the DL with the amount of draft picks we've wasted there the last few years.
Maybe it is just the Defensive coaching....

Didn’t but gotta get a jab in on Edmunds whenever possible
Well when you hear someone say "out of position" and "seam route" when referring to the Bills defense, who's the first players name that jumps into your head?
I know it's not nice to take jabs at Edmunds all the time but he is such an easy target. I like the guy on a personal level but we're about to pay him 12.7 mil next year. he's the 4th highest paid player on the team and least impactful. I'd rather give that 12 million to Gabe Davis or someone who actually shows up.

I'm watching it now and he never even mentions Edmunds when discussing 13 seconds. Says we were out of position presnap. Makes it sounds more like the play called had us out of position...not any certain player not being in position. He does talk about the seam not being covered. However I'm pretty sure that was on the formation and not Edmunds being out of position. They were happy to let KC complete passes over the middle. Preventing sidelines and deep balls.
Could you verify for me where he's blasting Edmunds? Not a huge Edmunds supporter myself but if I missed it I'd like to know.
You're right. I assumed Edmunds because that's usually his zone but on that particular play to Kelce that got them into FG range it was Milano that was playing underneath.

Man I would love Bruce as a DC or as DL coach. He still has all the mental acuity he had while playing. Much respect

Gabe Davis set an NFL Record for TDs in a single game and only making 1 mil a year. Tremaine Edmunds, 12.7 million and missing in action.
Breaking: Von Miller to bills, 6 year , 120 million
in The Stadium Wall

We're paying Tremaine Edmunds 12.7 million per year to contribute almost nothing thus far. for a mere 4.9 million more we're adding one of the all time greats and someone who's going to help develop our younger talent. If Tremaine doesn't have his breakout 5th year we can finally cut ties and recoup some of that Miller money. If Tremaine does breakout this year then our D just got that much more frightening. Win/Win
