  1. The upcoming draft is very intriguing at WR.  There is a higher than average number of receivers who possess size and a fair to elite amount of speed:

    Marvin Harrison Jr.  - 6'4" 4.39

    Rome Odunze - 6'3" 4.37

    Xavier Legette - 6'3"  4.29

    Johnny Wilson - 6'7" 4.42

    Adonai Mitchell - 6'4"  4.50

    Keon Coleman - 6'4"  4.46

All numbers are estimates at this point from www.nfldraftbuzz.com   Most of these guys, if not all of them, will go in the first round of the draft.  There are a couple more receivers who combine elite speed with average height that could go in the first round.

  2. Obviously, Buffalo has two possible routes to the playoffs.  They could win the division or win a wild card spot.  In the division race, Miami suddenly hits a tough spot in their schedule.  They have to play Philadelphia and Baltimore in back to back weeks.  Then they get to finish up the season against Buffalo.  If Buffalo can win out, they would win the division title if Miami loses either of their games against Philadelphia or Baltimore.

The wild card route is trickier.  There are three wild card spots, currently held by Cincinati, Cleveland and Indianapolis.  There is one additional team ahead of Buffalo, Houston, trying to displace a current wild card team. Next weekend Cincinati and Indianapolis both have games they should probably win. The other two teams ahead of Buffalo, Cleveland and Houston, play each other.  That will eliminate one oof them.  The following week Indianapolis plays a team they will probably beat (the Raiders).  So do Cleveland and Houston, whichever one is more of a threat to Buffalo at that point.  Cincinnati, however, plays Kansas City.  If Buffalo wins out and Cincinati loses to Kansas City, Buffalo guarantees themselves at least a wild card spot.  There is another chance if Cincinati beats Houston in week 17.  Cleveland and Cincinati face each other in their season finale.  One will eliminate the other if both are still in the picture for a wild card spot.  If Houston is in the picture instead of Cleveland at that point, well, they have to play Indianapolis in the season finale for those two teams. They can't both win.

  3. Dawkins is really good this year and probably has several years left at a high level of performance.  I think the only spot that needs immediate attention is center.  He's signed through 2024 and I don't see any reason for him not to play it out.  His cap number next year is only a couple hundred thousand higher next year compared to 2023.  I think the Bills need to think seriously about adding his eventual replacement next year.  It doesn't need to be a first round pick, but a 7th round probably doesn't do the trick.

  4. I think the Bills are finally focused.  If they had played with the kind of focus they had in the last two games, I think the Bills would have the best record in the league.  If they can approach the next game with the same focus, I don't think San Diego has a chance, new coach or not.  That's not to say they played a perfect game against Dallas.  The receivers had an overall bad game.  They weren't targeted very much to be sure, but when they were, they had a bunch of drops.  Dalton Kincaid and Diggs were among the receivers with issues.  Diggs did have an amazing grab in the second half and Kincaid may have had an issue with gloves (wearing the wrong kind) for a while.  There's no reason to think that will be a trend going forward.  The weather played a major role in the dropsies.  The Bills won't be dealing with weather issues Saturday in San Diego (dry with temps in the 50s).   Too far out to know what the weather could be for the New England game, but at this point it looks benign.

Three fumbles lost and no effort on defense.  They're also down their three best players in Herbert, Allen, and Bosa.

I don't think Herbert is coming back this season.  They may not win another game without Herbert.  Buffalo's game against the Chargers should be a cakewalk if the Bills can keep their collective heads screwed on straight.

Martin has been Ok this season, just by my eye test I can’t think of many bad punts he has had. I think at this point he is what this team will stick with. I think teams tend to only replace kickers/punters deep in season when a kicker/punter is hurt or completely implodes. Neither has happened to Martin.

I do think that for both kicker spots there needs to be more competition in camp. Bring back Ariza would be my play if he is willing to come back.

The stats say he's less than OK.  His average of pinning other teams inside the 20 is his best trait, and he ranks in the bottom half at #18 in that category.  He ranks near the bottom in some other categories.   Maybe this year is a fluke and he can improve to where he was, but the if the Bills want to make that bet, they had better be in a position to hedge their bet.

You know that percentage matters, right? He can't punt inside the 20 when the team doesn't punt. He is 19th this year and was 17th last year and hitting htta percentage on a yearly basis is an elite level of performance when you measure over a career.

I'm not going to go through 32 punters and figure out the percentage of every punter of punts inside the 20.  I did kind of skim through the list and Martin's percentage was nothing special compared to others.  Several punters have a far better per punt average and a far better percentage of punts inside the 20.  You are right in that Martin has been known as a punter who can pin opponents deep.  It is also true that players wear out eventually.  The Bills have to decide if that is the case for Martin or he's just having a sub-par year for some reason.

    Source?

I read it in a post.  When you raised the question, I checked stats on NFL.com.  Marttin has 14 punts downed inside the 20.  I counted 21 punters among the top 32 punters who have more than 14 punts inside the 20.  Seven punters have fewer punts inside the 20 than Martin.

Buffalo has tough opponents, especially Dallas, and so does Miami.  Miami has lost a critical ingredient on their offensive line, center Conner Williams, for probably the rest of the season.  After he left the game Sunday, Tua was sacked 5 times.  If Buffalo can run the table, they have a realistic chance.  That's a big "if" though.  Miami like beats the Jets, but could easily lose their final three; Dallas, Baltimore and Buffalo.  That has to happen along with Buffalo running the table.  Miami owns important tie-breakers if the finish with identical records, most importantly - division record.

  11. Others have stated Buffalo will be looking for safety help in the off season.  I agree.  I don't think Buffalo has given up on Elam yet, but the clock is ticking.  I expect him to get a chance to be on the field before the end of the season and I think he'll be here for training camp.  Anything after that depends on him.  Benford in 2024 is a given, I think.  Dane Jackson probably sticks.  If Rasul Douglas is on a two year deal, he is too.  I'm not ruling out Tre white next season.  I think the Bills will wait until training camp to figure it out.  Other CBs are contract issues I will leave to the team to figure out.

  12. Wink Martindale is a long term veteran defensive coordinator.  I suspect he is the kind of person who wants to do things his own way.  Daboll is also a pretty strong minded guy.  As the head coach he probably figures that when he wants to have some input on how the defense is doing things his defensive coordinator should listen to him.

Not sure that Taylor Swift is an upgrade from Hailee Steinfeld, and I'm not a fan of either....

I'm pretty sure Taylor Swift has a fatter bank account.  They would be a bigger power couple than Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen

They could've called the RT for illegal formation too.

I think Kelce was guilty of offensive pass interference in a pick on that play too.

What’s he complaining about exactly ?

He hasn’t had 10% of the adversity Josh has had… and I have never seen JA carry on like a pork chop…

I think both Mahomes and Reid complained because the refs didn't warn them before the play started that Toney was lined up in the neutral zone.  It's a lame argument since defensive players get called for the same penalty all the time and never get warnings.
