  1. 1. Keon Coleman - I think it is obvious Buffalo plans to start him a WR.  I don't know if he'll be a star, especially right away, but with Josh Alan as QB, he's going to get his chances.

    2. Cole Bishop - Yes, he should be a starter by mid-season if not sooner.  He's got the skill set to be a ten year starter.

    3. Dewayne Carter - I'm wondering if he's going to make us think of Harrison Phillips.  Isn't he supposed to Kyle Williams like snap anticipation ability.  Not super athletic, but seems to be the kind of player who gets the most out of what he has.

    4. Ray Davis - He's going to be a role player early on.  I'm guessing he's average maybe 10 carries a game early in his career and help keep Cook fresh.

    5. Sedrick Van Pran - I agree, he will start at some point. I would not rule out Buffalo moving McGovern back to guard and starting Van Pran this season.

    5. Edufuan Ulofoshio - As you say, a special teamer in the near term.  The Bills will teach him how to play linebacker in their system.  I don't know whether the focus will be at the Mike position or the Will spot.

    5. Javon Soloman - I think this is kind of a fun pick.  I think he's going to have a role both on special teams and as a situational pass rusher on defense.  I also think he's got more potential to surprise on the upside than most are giving him credit for.

    6. Tylan Grable - Practice squad for a year or two.  Then we'll see.

    6. Daequan Hardy - Yes, Taron Johnso is the undisputed starter at slot cornerback, but it would be nice if he had a reliable backup who could take enough reps to keep him fresh and provide some insurance in case of injury.  I think that's what Buffalo is hoping for in addition to Hardy's special teams contribution.

    7. Travis Clayton - I agree he's a fun draft pick.  I'm thinking PS for at least two years and then throw him into the mix at tackle.  His freaky athleticism has got to be giving Beane some pleasant dreams though.

  2. I freely admit to being woefully ignorant of the actual ranking of draft prospects.  Keon Coleman was not the wide receiver I was hoping the Bills would end up picking, but I spent all of about five minutes being disappointed.  He's the new WR for my Bills.  So, what's good about him?  He's smart, and physical.  He's very young with the opportunity to learn and get better, and he might not be as slow as his combine 40 time suggests.  So, I'm ready to wait and see what he can do.  No point in wallowing in disappointment.

I think Bishop starts.  Carter is primary back up to Ed.  Next season he is given the chance to win the 1T job.  Davis is the back up to Cook. Plays the Murray role from last year but has more juice.  Johnson is a solid role player but wouldnt want him to approach 10 touches a game.  I think in a few years this will be looked at as a very good draft.  The success of Coleman will determine the perception of the overall class.

Buffalo's defensive scheme is very complex and demands a great deal mentally from its safeties.  That might be the thing that keeps Bishop from starting day one.  I do expect he'll be a starter before the season progresses very far though.

  4. I don't think there is any way to know for certain.  Buffalo needs to at least one, and probably 2 or 3 of their WRs to have his best season ever for this to be a successful season.  That includes Coleman, the receivers who are holdovers from last season, and off-season free agent signings.  That means, until or unless it happens, there will be doubt about whether or not it's enough.

I actually really like adding chase claypool for cheap.

he might turn it around with a change of scenery and if he doesn’t just cut him.  Hard to be too upset with him getting frustrated playing for pit and then Chicago back to back lol that’s like a wr death sentence

Yeah, Chase Claypool is an interesting signing.  He's got all kinds of measurables with both great size and really good speed.  The knock on him is that he takes plays and games off where he doesn't put out much effort.  If the Bills can get some consistency out of him, he could easily outpace his contract.

or maybe they want WR's that can win vs physical press in the playoffs?

Buffalo has struggled in the playoffs when the refs have let KC CBs mug their WRs.  Buffalo is getting receivers who can fight back and don't need refs to protect them.

  6. It's a crowded room considering the Bills have generally played a 4-2-5 alignment on defense.  Starters are Milano and Bernard.  I'm not sure what the depth chart is going to look like behind them.  Perhaps Baylon Spector will back up Bernard and Williams backs up Milano.  I'm guessing they'll carry 5 linebackers, so to keep more than one of the other guys, they would have to cut Williams or Spector or both.  Spector is not quite as athletic as some of the others.  Dorian Williams is real athletic but early in the season was passed over for reps on defense when Milano went down.  It may be he just needed more time to get comfortable with his responsibilities in McDermott's defense, or maybe he's a bit slow on the mental uptake.  My guess is it was the former.  After all, Bernard had a whole season to sit on the bench.  So, what happens?  If the Bills end up with only one of the new guys on the 53 man roster, which guy is it?

Coleman did time a 4.52 at his proday and that would be right in line with that X with Speed to be honest.  Also his Michigan St tape shows that speed much better than his FSU tape

Can you provide a link?  I googled his pro day results and everything I could find said he only did positional drills at his pro day and stood on his combine testing numbers.

Have to include Casey Toohill in this. His contract is modest with very little guarantees, but he’s a part of the conversation. Miller, Rousseau, Epenesa are locks. The last 2 spots I figure come down to a 3 way competition between Toohill, Jonathan, Solomon. My money is on Toohill and Solomon, Jonathan maybe a practice squad spot.

I forgot about Toohill.  I agree though.  I know his run defense is a liability, but in obvious passing downs he has some juice.

They can all cover and knife into the backfield too.

We love Milano, but I think his succession plan is in full swing. He’ll be 30 in July and only has 3 seasons where he’s started more than 13 games in his career. I don’t know what the future looks like for him if he can’t stay healthy.

The injury concern is real with Milano.  II agree that the Bills are aware the clock is ticking on his career.  For the time being, I think the Bills are hoping that Dorian Williams can step in if he gets hurt.  Not many players have the instinct and football smarts that Milano has, but at least Williams has plenty of athleticism.  With a year in the system, hopefully, the mental aspect of his game is not a liability.

Y’all are way too down on this roster…

(I say this under the belief we add/trade for another legit WR)

    Elite QB

    Good OL

    Good RB’s

    Good TE’s

    (TBD) WR Room

    Strong DT Rotation

    Von-Dependent DE Rotation

    Good LB’s

    Good CB’s

    Solid Vet Safeties + Bishop

I agree with most of your evaluation.  II think it is a bit of a stretch to label Mike Edwards and Taylor Rapp as a solid pair of safeties.  I kind of like what Edwards brings to the team.  He's been a part time starter (starting 28 games over 5 seasons) and brings a decent skill set to the Bills.  Taylor Rapp is a big hitter, but has sub par coverage ability and lacks the speed to hang with the better receivers in the league.  Fortunately, I think Bishop has a lot of upside and might start before the end of the season.

Oooo look. Only a 40 in shorts guy.

    fine how about the

    4.31

    4.2

    4.31

    already in the WR room.

The guys you're thinking of are all best suited to the slot.  Samuel can play on the outside, though he's probably a better fit inside.  What Buffalo lacks is a true X receiver with speed.

  12. Buffalo has been quietly building a linebacking corps of players who are smart, instinctive and can all run: Milano, Bernard, Dorian Williams, Baylon Spector.  Bernard needed a year to learn McDermott's system, but had a terrific sophomore season.  2023 was Dorian Williams' redshirt season.  Spector also started slow, but had some good games in 2023 when pressed into service.   Hopefully, Ulofoshio can follow the same path.  He's got enough speed.

  13. Taron Johnson is 27 years old. Quality players tend to enter their "prime" at about that age.  If Johnson has a typical career, he should have a good few years ahead of him.  At the very least, he should be a solid special teams contributor and insurance, should Johnson get hurt early in his career.  If he proves to be capable early on, he can get some reps and enable Johnson to stay fresh.  Of course, he could eventually provide some protection if Johnson comes due for a cap busting type contract.
