I long for the days of ineptitude at the QB position.

    Geez, people......really?

You have no issue with an inferior QB getting a record breaking contract, necessarily bumping up the cost for our own QB?

The NFL and players just need to learn to distribute the cap space a little better, that way teams are built more evenly/fairly. Like positional salary minimum/maximum. This IS a team sport the last time I checked. Why should 1 player get 15% or more of the salary cap? Honestly.

Because the market dictates that he's worth it?

No my argument is that baseball was ruined due to some teams being able to spend a lot more which is what eliminating salary cap does.

And New England winning had nothing to do with cap.

Yeah but the highest spending teams aside from the Dodgers aren't really winning much. Red Sox, Angels, Cubs, Phillies, etc. The Rays are competitive every year, as are the Athletics. What happens is that these high spenders eventually get bogged down by the end years of huge contracts. The Angels have made the playoffs one time, for example, while Mike Trout was part of the team, arguably the best player of all time. The Angels consistently have a top 5, usually top 3 payroll. Lots of smaller teams are competing.

So does Jerry Jones, Kraft, etc.

Watch Football become like baseball where some teams are effectively farm teams.

If you want an argument that the salary cap helps create parity, baseball isn't a good place to look. Different teams are winning every year. The difference is that teams can actually pay their players to stay rather than have constant turnover due to cap restraints. It's a good thing that the Padres locked up FTJ without having to worry about it. The cap also didn't seem to stop the Patriots from making every other Superbowl for like 10 years either.

Does anyone enjoy fussing over numbers so that we can fit in the contract for a linebacker?

I don’t disagree.  I’m not sure if Ertz can change the dynamics of our offense.  If they think he can, than they would pull the trigger for a late rd pick imo.

I don’t agree that “anyone can catch a check down”.  After watching the bills play in detail this year, one conclusion that I came to: Josh allen doesn’t trust Dawson knox....especially on check

I agree knox is a better athlete and can be a problem for the D when he catches the ball.   It’s not about ertz being better than knox or replacing him. It’s about having both of them and using their skill sets in 1 and 2TE sets.  I hope we don’t plan on Sweeney or Gilliam being our #2TE.  We should be trying to acquire another TE

I really don't think this was true at the end of the year. Josh was going to Knox quite a bit and he made some crazy catches.

Knox is frustrating when he drops those fairly easy passes, but I don't know why we'd think he will continue that way when he's shown he can make tough catches regularly. Knox had an obvious progression last season, and if he didn't go to Knox as much, it probably has more to do with having two of the top 5? route runners at WR who can gain seperation whenever they want.

They're not that bad, But not that good either. And I totally agree with you on the second part. From what I've read on these forums, It seems like most people are ok with letting Daryl Williams leave in the off season. He's our best RT we've had in 15+ years. And I'm sure that had a lot to do with keeping JA upright.

Does anyone on here have any actual news regarding Daryl and the Bills other than just rumors? They're being pretty hush-hush about it. To me, that sounds like a deal is being made behind the scenes.

Imo, I think the problem with Singletary and Moss is that they are basically the same player. The Cover 1 guys talk a lot about a guy like James White who I think would be a good contrast to Singletary or Moss, who both mostly run draws or slants. White is the type of guy who can receive passes or make runs to the outside which aren't the forte of either of our two backs.

good point.  would rather trade him.  Any pick is better than straight up releasing.  I think the cap constraints just make it so hard this year.  Although perhaps we could get something from PIT since Pouncy retired?

skill wise I think you keep Morse, but you would clearly need to draft a solid strong guard who can also play center given Morse injury history.

I can agree with that. I love Matt Milano but if we can't keep him, I hope we can sign Williams and then grab a guy like Kirksey to replace Milano, where he and Klein have a kind of timeshare depending on passing and running downs, and then focus on the OL and DL which are both in need of something.

    When he tweeted:

I said to myself, "Uh, Oh".

Because that may be true, but on the other hand, it's also true that there were times when Jon got beaten like a drum and a sack was avoided because Josh Allen is fleet of foot, stiff of arm, and able to escape one way or another.

Yeah, if he's playing in front of, idk, Drew Brees or something, that number is more than 0. Josh is probably better than any other QB in the game outside maybe Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes when the pocket collapses.

This doesn't make much sense to me. All of those re-structure examples (including Diggs - who they quietly did some maintenance on his deal after being traded) have come on deals done within the year. Kind of a hard sell to come right back to those guys, don't you think? Guys like Hughes and Morse make way more sense for a restructure.

Diggs wants to win. He was the only guy who stayed on the field to watch the Chiefs celebrate. I am pretty sure he is flexible when it comes to making the team better so long as he doesn't have to take a pay cut.

Mel Kiper's highest-graded quarterbacks ever for the NFL draft: John Elway ranks first since 1979, Trevor Lawrence makes the top 10

Three Bill QBs are in his top 10:

    1. John Elway

    2. Andrew Luck

    3. Peyton Manning

    4. Trevor Lawrence

    5. Jim Kelly

    6. Andre Ware

    7. Drew Bledsoe

    8. Ryan Leaf

    9. Troy Akiman

    10. Josh Allen

For all his foibles, I'll always appreciate that Mel Kiper was a Josh Allen Guy before almost anyone else.

b: a similarly conceived criminal organization in the U.S.also : a similar organization elsewherethe Japanese Mafia

c: a criminal organization associated with a particular trafficthe cocaine Mafia

2: often not capitalized : a group of people likened to the Mafia

I still think it’s amazing that  Eli Manning and Rivers played as long as they did without ever missing a game due to injury.

Well, Eli would just sack himself before the other team got a chance, so that helped, I think.

Marc Sessler has opined for us to land Joe Thuney, OG, from the ***patriots.

I'm not really the one to post, but I really think this could be a fit for the OL.

    Here's the problem, I'm a football dumba**.

So many of you are way more football smart than I am. I know he would come on the somewhat expensive side, and he's an in-divison player, but other than that, is there a reason we shouldn't persue him?

I'm an older fella, and I'm all about fortifying the "trenches", so to me this makes perfect sense.

What are the downfalls/cons of this?

He's a fantastic guard, which also means he will be way too expensive.

Why would you conclude that ? Probably the first one they met with but that doesn't necessarily indicate any ranking or priority

Unless I'm missing someone, I believe Jenkins is generally the highest ranked of all the players on this list. Stretch to get him at 30, impossible to get him in round 2. I'd just assume that since he's a fit in a potential area of need, and likely ready to play full time snaps immediately, that it would enable them to let Williams go and potentially get Milano back who is probably harder to replace.

I've been thinking a lot about a Tremble draft.  I think that would be a good get.

    Agreed.

I don't underestimate Morse. He's just not a fit for what they want to do. Morse needs to be moving. They need to have him do what he does best.

Feliciano has played well at center. You save about $5 million cutting Morse. Feliciano also gets my respect for how he can swap between OG and Center pretty flawlessly. He's an average player but I think he helps us more than Morse. Upgrade Feliciano at RG. Draft a center/OG in the early rounds.

Morse also is a candidate for a pay reduction restructure. If they go that route he's probably competing for a job next year.

I just can't get behind any of this. Morse is very, very good at pass pro. He's an incredibly reliable snapper. How is that anything other than exactly what we need? This is a passing offense.

Morse is far away the best option for C on this team and it isn't close. The only question mark with him should be the concussions. He is not an issue on the O-Line. If Morse is on the team (and he should be) he won't be competing with anyone. He's the C. There is no other option.
