  1. i think a requirement for an area being "cheap to live" is that both housing is affordable AND you can actually find a job there to pay the rent. Just because you can go to the East Side of buffalo and find slum housing for $200/month doesnt mean Buffalo is a affordable place to live.

That is a good point. But there are jobs in Buffalo, not as plentiful as elsewhere, but they exist. Some of the other cities on the list would be tough places to find jobs too. Beyond service related jobs.

  2. They already said it was Missouri. The season finale (can't remember which) where it was the mock-Behind the Music show (Behind the Simpsons), at the very end the narrator says:

    "This small Missouri town..."

Wait, on second thought, it wasn't Missouri...it was somewhere down south though...maybe Kentucky? I just know it was revealed in that episode...

It's Kentucky. They say "This small family from Northern Kentucky.."

This goes agaist some of the clues they gave in the past, but that is what they said.

  3. On Monday, the fiance and I will be doing a 1-day tour of downtown Buffalo. As of now, this is what we are doing:

    1) going to the Wilcox Museum to see where Teddy Roosevelt was sworn in

    2) headin 3 blocks over to the Anchor Bar for wings

    3) Drive past the Frank Lloyd Wright house (closed on Mondays)

    4) Head over and check out the broadway market

We might also drive over to Deleware Park and Forest Lawn Cemetery if we have time.

I'm from OP and don't know Buffalo all that well. The fiance has been to Buffalo but never downtown. Does this sound like a good first tour?

I'd take a drive down Delaware to see all the old mansions. Check out some of the neighborhoods off of Delaware too. The Albright-Knox would be a great place to go too. Then maybe take a walk down to the park.

I'm from OP too. I will be back in Buffalo Labor Day weekend, and I'm going to go down and take a look at the Martin House as well.

  4. I would sugest that if Indy does not get a bigger stadium they are off to LA. Presently they play in the 55,000 seat RCA dome and that just won't do it.  Further this just based on the cities listed above show how very few cities are left for an NFL franchise.  This is not the NBA or NHL.  Also I'm thinking there is some rule, written or unwritten, US, Canadian, NFL, CFL that will not permit an NFL team in  Canada, I may be wrong, or this rule may no longer exsist.

I think you are right. The NFL won't take on the CFL. After L.A. gets filled, there really are a few options beyond the ones I stated. The danger is that the lease situation will make it easier to leave because it is on a sliding scale and gets progressively cheaper. We can breathe easier when the L.A. area is not an option. The other cities are open for a team, but they don't have groups actively looking as far as I know.

  5. Cleveland, Houston and Baltimore had to pay enormous sums to replace teams that should not have moved in the first place.

I believe franchise shifts are bad for sports unless there is a situation that can not be repaired.  Blackmailing cities (and states) into paying for new stadiums while said cities need to pay their teachers and firefighters should not be an acceptable rationale for moving.

L.A. (or any other city) would rather swipe another team than pay for a new stadium and exorbitant expansion fees.

The NFL has become encircled by rich vultures.  If you doubt this, attend a Super Bowl weekend.

I suspect New York State would put up a fight if there was an attempt to "steal" the Bills.

There are some cities that would love a team. Portland, San Antonio (has a dome already), Orlando (Citrus Bowl), Toronto (SkyDone) and Austin, TX to name the obvious ones. This is still a very crucial and dangerous time for the franchise.
