  1. culture - its a mindset based on attitude and bahavior

back in the day when HoF coach Joe Gibbs had the Washington football team formerly known as the Redskins on run deep into playoffs and Super Bowls for several years, he would personally award Sony walkmans to the top players of the week and the players extra-excited to get them, they could buy them of course and or had them already, but getting them from coach in front of the entire team was the key.

Extra point:  After a road game played late season Saturday in NE, Coach Gibbs on the way home from the airport took two game balls signed by the entire to a retired lon-time high school coach who was intensive care at a hospital and coach spent 10 mins with around mid-nite with him...all coach asked for was for access and 10 mins...cleared by hospital admin and coach asked to keep this private.

good analysis, but I still want-hope to see some circle or wheel routes from the RBs

Burkhhead is but 5-10 and 214 lbs - so not the FB - but I do like this stat line (which is why I am a tad anal on the topic)

In 13 games last season, Burkhead rushed for 302 yards and three touchdowns and also caught 27 passes for 279 yards...point being a slow-guy like him is able to avg 10 YPC and Yeldon only 4 YPC...call me confused...

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead reworked the final year of his contract.

Burkhead's base compensation drops from $3 million to $2 million, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported. The restructuring includes a $550,000 signing bonus, $1.05 million in base salary and $400,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

ESPN first reported the new deal.

Pelissero noted that the guaranteed portion -- the $550,000 signing bonus -- is the same amount of guarantee that Cam Newton got from the Patriots on his incentive-laden one-year pact.

Burkhead signed a three-year, $9.75 million contract with the Patriots in 2018.

A versatile weapon, the 30-year-old has not played a full slate of games in three seasons with the Pats due to injury.

Burkheads not a FB, that was James Develin who was hurt last year and retired. Burkheads just a depth do-it-all RB who also plays special teams.  Bolden's also in the mix, but hes mostly just primary special teams.  White's the 3rd down guy.  Michel gets most of the carries.

I see buffalo mostly running the offense with 2 backs as moss and singletary - i don't really see either as a feature back vs. 3rd down back though.  Singletary probably has a leg up on 3rd downs simply from having another year in the system, and more experience blocking.  Taiwan jones will be in that bolden role, and theoretically yeldon can fit in the burkhead role if you think we need 4 running backs.  Yeldon has caught more than 70% of passes over his career, and has a 4 YPC average.  He's not killing anyone but I don't think you can complain about his role as insurance if one or both of the main backs is hurt.

However if you look at the 4th back on the game day roster as a fullback/ST guy then it likely falls to dimarco or gilliam if they really like him.   If they're rarely going to see the field on offense, then go with the best special teamer of the two.

  4. one thing I am focusing on is the pass-catching ability of the Bills RBs, esp Moss, this is an under-utilized aspect of the offense that I would like to see increase in as it helps diversify and further complicate the defensive gameplaning and in=game assignments; Pats are able to do this to including Rex Burkhead who catches 25-30 passes as a freaking useless FB a la our very own P Dimarco, Burkhead has burned us as well...

total head case,  Super Bowl MVP (not),  but there are some good quotes he made, seems the Cowboys brought him back x 3, plus the trade to NE is bizarre and involves a player who would later become a Bill.. .saw something on NFL films years ago where he would not talk to team-mates during practice or film sessions to the point where they would call him out...contract-related behavior

are you going to cross out “Redskins” with a sharpie and write “Football Team” in its place?

ahem, I stand corrected...I refer to them, the local team[of which I am not a fan] as the Washington football team formerly known as the Redskins...I think this is politically correct as well as factual (alternative fact maybe)...flame on beotches

  7. from the personal memory bank

attendance was 80.020(for sellouts at Rich Stadium)  and Buffalo Evening News often posted that in the box score of Bills games

several of those who went to the game got stuck in traffic and missed it and some parked on sides of road and walked

a construction worker who erected the first goal-posts kicked the first ever FG at the new stadium an 11 yarder

Herb Mul-key of the then Redskins took the opening kick-off for a 102 yard touchdown

    Bills lost

Duane Thomas mercurial-tempermental RB for the 'skins (cowbows prior) had to held-baclk from going over the wall to get at fans who were heckling or whatever, some girls reported in the paper the next day that they were scared that he was going after them.

47 years later, same stadium and a lot of memories, including rock concerts, all-day events with multiple acts...called them summer-fest or super-fest.

  8. I see ST progress as a decrease in penalties we take (example LorAx had 2 on back-to-back plays last season) as well making a big play and preventing ...good ole Pats blocked 4 punts out of 9 total in the NFL last season and one of course was against us, which was a difference maker in a close home game loss.

Investment in Tyler M (MLB) 3.4 M and Taiwan J (RB) 1.6M as well as Andre R (WR) 2M is over 7M which is shows they value ST skills....any position play from them is a bonus,

  9. its not a bad idea, but does Beano have the interest and the background to run the entire football business; its not the model the Pegulas embrace given past experiences and this summers purge of the Sabres ?  Would it detract from Beano scouting and player review-evaluations-decisions ?  I dont see it happening but I do hope for a 5 year GM extension soon

  10. IIRC the NFL provided the Pegulas with a short list of coaches to consider and Sean McD was on it; McD no doubt recommended Beano and we got...lucky

I play baseball with a guy who was a high-school classmate of McD from PA and calls McD turbo-intense in high-school and a practical joker (sophisticated sense of humor).

My personal seal of approval is based on  the fact that he wrestled at a high-level in the state of PA (I ref wrestling for sereral years) and that he went to William and Mary (brainiacs die to get in there) and played ball at the same time is a significant achievement (time managment).

  11. one thought I had after listening to Tre mention the family issue- being  that he is from La a trade to the NO Saints with a twist

trade him for one this year only to the Saints for a 2nd round pick and then after the season but before the start of the NFL season 2021 his rights revert back to the Bills

Bills get a pick and cap room, Tre plays and comes back to the Bills, not gonna happen but I wonder why not...flame on beotches....

lotta guys gonna go down to injury early this season.  only a couple weeks of pads and then the season starts?   this will be interesting

yeah the tackling mechanics, gap integrity and stamina are going to be issues.   Keeping these young healthy, vibrant very social wealthy young men out of the clubs has proven to be a challenge with pro athletes thus far.
