  1. this about as much insight as we can expect from an interview, proof is that there is a Bills rep putting the kibosh on the Shorter response as Josh was about to go deep...I also sense a seismic change in Josh, given his jettison of long-time smokeshow party/galpal Brittany W in favor of the more cereral/subdued Hailee and the fasting more pooping lifestyle changes he has made..if anyone has Brittany contact info pls pass along as I got Eagles tix at MSG next week and have an extra.

Imagine going into the season with Mac Jones as the only QB on your roster and then looking at the other QBs in the division

not a best practice esp of a Hall of Fame coach, interesting to see who his backup (imrprovement ?) turns out to be..

as far as the Bills. go with a vet a qb2 for sure, with Barkley on IR you have another vet in the qb room to help but for active qb3 ?  young athletic project that we could hang onto for a few years would likely be good...for the scout teams in practice, saves us a mid-late round pick every-other year, and at some point becomes qb2 ?  Note: less than half of the NFL has a qb3 on roster as of today.

  3. make it happen Beane..two major reasons:

    1. better backup qb depth for sure - Kyle Allen is too erratic...Barkley is good in the room but poor in the field

    2. need to protect and gain that holy grail of third or fourth rounder to draft tne next dwarf linebacker with chronic injury history or an athletic OL that cannot perform the basics of the position.

  4. I like the guy...followed him on Twitter as he was: JakeFrommStateFarm...hot mom always helps the cause...

But it was garbage time, 3rd stringers versus 3rd stringers...if you want stir the bottom of the roster and have a younger version of Matt Barkley have at it...

  5. Wall of Fame - Yes

Buffalo Sport Hall and likley "AFL" Hall of Fame - Yes

NFL Hall - a stretch at best, most voters just don't know - all-time Bills pick leader with 40, punt returner as well, plus 2 AFL rings, just not enuff apparently, there was a push for AFL guys for the hall but that is over, so not likely...

    highlights:

In 1964 Butch was selected in the AFL college draft by the Buffalo Bills and he made an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball as a cornerback. Early in his rookie season, he ran back his first professional interception 72 yards for a touchdown; that wouldn’t be the last as he would later become the Bills’ all-time leader in interceptions with 40, returning five for touchdowns; he was seemingly always in the right place at the right time. Butch was a valuable member of the two AFL championship Buffalo Bills teams of 1964 and 1965 and was selected to five All-AFL teams.

Butch was also an exceptional punt returner, and continues to rank among the Bills all-time leaders. In the 1966 AFL Championship Game, he returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown and established championship game records for punt returns and punt return yards.

Moreover, he played in every game as a member of the Bills during his tenure in Buffalo, starting 101 consecutive games.

My grandfather had brain cancer in the early 1980s, long before they had this much technology. It's devastating to the family knowing that someone you love has a cancer that you won't be able to defeat no matter what. Just the bald head alone causes me to break down inside... and still questioning why we still can't figure a way to solve this to keep this from happening for many people, especially kids and young adults.....

as a cancer survivor - early detection and screeening esp for those over age 40, be aware of family medical history esp if there are issues..donate to the caises as our research and medical practices, therapies and medications are gettng better and better

But there's a way to announce it that doesn't sound like you took someone out back.

true dat, the Pegulas are not exactly known for their communication and public relations skills anow re they ?   The old man learned a lesson when he babbled-on like a child on Christmas morning upon buying Sabres...existnce is to win a cup, will drill another well if I need to...

As well there is constant turnover exec postions within the Pegula kingdom, esp at PSE...seems it takes a Pittsburg or Penn State connection to get in the door and longetivity is for family employees only...

    Really seems weird.

my take he was in charge of the new stadium "special" project and all the details meetings, politics, etc which came to succesful conclusion so the contract likely  ended July or so...Seems Pegula is doing the same for Bills as he does for Sabres..flattens his org with no management layers at the VP/prez level in which he finds no value and saves exec level big salary...

  9. Once upon a time in land far, far away...in a place that I cannot quite recall today

I remember a fair-haired lad named Cole Beasley, whose productiion was anything but measley.

In his prime he  caught plenty of passes, and the occassional TD...while avoiding controversy and most of all..VD.

But as he got older and slower, his contract the team did not renew, now he's binge-watching Fox News, as he has nothing better to do.

  10. was disappointed when I heard we drafted Josh Allen as all the analysis and pre-draft pundits had him as erratic, not proven against top competition, etc

Same feeling towards last years 3rd round pick (Bernard) and signing Ed Jordan to the big contract despite mediocre stats

    In McBeane we trust beotches...

I did hit a homer when Stevie (WR) was not franchised cuz I said he would have dropped the tag, which got a reply from his agent on twitter...

  11. Actually I think this Diggs blow-up/issue/whatever is a good thing, as he likely is bitching about the same thing that we all have since the Cincy playoff debacle plus its the star WR who is always open and wants the ball...blah, blah, blah

What I don't get is the end-of-season interviews ?  why didnt Diggs vent during his end-of-season interview and air his issues back then, cuz based on the off-season moves the roster is improved and the depth is perhaps the best we ever had, all despite the tight cap

Or if Diggs did vent again is he still unhappy with McD and or Dorsey meaning no post-season interview and limited or no communication between team and player until mini-camp meetup and boom it got hot again so the Bills had to tapdance about it as best they could esp once the media portrayed Diggs as the no-show bad guy.

So yeah call Diggs a headcase, a fifth-rounder who worked to raise his game and became a superstar  so his ego and confidence is sky high and he does not accept loosing and all that goes with it willingly so he expects the same of others...as he is a captain as well.

McD is a motivated competitor as well, a friend went to high school with him in PA where he won multiple state championships (wrestled with him, went to his wedding etc) calls him the most intense person he ever met...so you can imagine the two of them in a room exchanging their opinions,  challenging each other and not backing down..it got hot I bet.

If acquiring a vet WR for pick #27 who has had 338 catches for 4189 yards and 29 TD's in the last 3 seasons is an example of Bean's worst move then the man is a genius.

I would say Bean's biggest blunder was to not recognize sooner that the NFL has changed to favor the offense and that the best way to win a SB is to obtain and EMBRACE your elite QB and surround them with the best talent available.  At the same time you have to let your defense make do with the scraps.  IMO the Bills have largely reversed this.

the full embrace would be an offensive head coach who would the OC just as McD is on the defensive side...this is the fire burning inside Diggs belly and the source of his frustration...

ideally, but not realistically, if i were Pegula Sean Payton or Ben Johnson (Lions OC) would coach the O and McD would coach the D and special teams...whoever is on O or D calls the plays and the timeouts, the GM makes the final call on drafting and free agents...so yeah I throw a couple million more around on the coaches and see if it would work on their egos or not.

I think he is better than Polian!

This GM had to personally scout all those QBs being drafted in 2018 and he got it 1000% correct in Josh Allen. So many of the fan base here wanted Josh Rosen or to give up the farm to move up to the NY Giants pick to grab Mayfield, Darnold, or Rosen. Beane traded up a few times and got it right. Best QB in franchise history!

Made the trade for Stephon Diggs with a #1 pick. Signed Von Miller.

You guys gotta realize that the GM goes a lot by what his coaches and scouts say as so many have input. Does anyone else notice that the O-line coach that was here when they traded Teller or drafted Ford is long gone?

I would also suspect that McD has a huge input in drafting defensive players.

Plus, Beane has needed to draft mostly at the back of the draft to find talent. Bill Polian came in after back-to-back 2-14 seasons in 84-85 with a 4-12 thrown in 1986. HoF QB Jim Kelly had already been drafted in 83 and so had DE Bruce Smith, and WR Andre Reed in 1985. Terry Bledsoe was the GM/VP back then.

Now think about the last few seasons (2019, 10-6.) (2020, 13-3) (2021, 11-6) (2022, 13-3) This has been a great last few seasons for Buffalo fans and so much is because of Brandon Beane.

to me this is the beauty of this website, you raise good points and  Polian v Beane is a winning thread worthy onto itself...its like being in bar, wearing our zubaj pants and drinking Genny Creams, ordering wings and talking Bills...luv it.

Polian and Beane are the same in that they turned loosers into consistent winners and had help from outstanding coahes with input into building a positive, thriving culture that lures free agents...they also had big balls making big trades (Biscuit for Polian) (multiple swaps to grab Josh for Beane) and both knew to have the franchise qb above all else...Polian with four super bowls and all that goes with it...Beane next with his accomplisments and keeping the championship window open long-term despite the cap and overall league-wide improved front-office competition with analytics, more scouts, quicker firings, etc

  14. Other than Polian have to say Beane has been best GM in franchise history.  Better than Butler and the rest for the most part were terrible.

Beane himself has said there will be misses.

Its the same for all GMs...misses when drafting which is projecting....his biggest draft misses are Ford, Boogie, AJE and and not keeping Teller, with Ed Oiliver on the bubble.

Also neglecting taking OL earlier - relying on lower-round projects and washed-up vet guards...you can likely blame Kromer for Saffold as his recommendation was key I think.

Free agency misses:  parade of DL

I prefer the RB taking over as 3rd string QB and running wildcat. More interesting. 3rd string QB's are garbage anyhow

was thinking same, a former qb, or someone with a decent arm who knows 6 plays, 2 of which are passes,  now playing another position as a backup ? would save a valuable roster spot, think about how often teams are need that third qb in a game, usually if first-string goes down you can make it thru the game with second-stringand then elevate that bartender...3rd-stringer from the PS...but first hope and pray...this Brock Purdy rule lives on for 1 season maybe.

IF Von can play golf NOW? HE should be good to go with his knee week 1. Seriously.  5/17/23 you are cleared for golf. week one is 9/11/23 That is 4 months from now. about.  He did not have as severe of an injury Tre had.

Von said he was cleared for golf two months ago...football different story...we want him healed and as close to 100% to last the season and playoffs moreso than opening game and September

  17. to your point, he doesnt have a VP with the Sabres and Bills, but he does have one at PSE, Executive VP Ron Raccuia, which is a bit odd as the those teams gen the big revenue but the track record of GMs and coaches is littered with road kill, NDAs, and a decade of learning the hard way, so he learned to trust, who ?

Kim, but she seems to be incapacitated on the road to recovery hopefully...his kids are a bit young to make inner circle big decisions and dont have experience but neither did KIm...so is it Raccuia or just him collecting info, being conservative, and figuring it out in his own, which means doing nothing much other than counting his profits and where to re-invest.
