We also lost much more on the defensive side 3 major contributors, Phillips, Lawson, and Alexander.  Who'd we lose on offense? Frank Gore who I'm sure we could have back if we wanted.  The biggest hole we had on offense was at WR which we did address. You have nine offensive lineman from last year all under contract.  The only place where I could see a  FA helping would be a running back, but even there, maybe the plan is for Yeldon to be the #2, plus signed Jones though mainly for ST  and who knows about (can't think of his name) the rugby player.

It's not who we lost, it's who we don't have. We don't have a solid option at TE. Knox is not solid, maybe he will, maybe we won't. O-line is solid, and WRs are a top 5 bunch. We need a solid receiving RB and another strong RB.

He was amazing in that SB.

Did anyone ever think Trubisky was going to be great? I hated him coming out of college.  I think the hope was he could be good enough to not kill a team.  It was a terrible pick and considering they traded up and passed on Mahomes and Watson, it’s one of the worst picks in nfl history.

Jamarcus Russell wins that award. He's not even in the top 50, except by degree of comparison to who they missed out on.

Lest we forget he was a Pro Bowler last year with a 95 passer rating, 7.4 YPA and 230 yards per game and a 66% completion rate in year 2. It might have been the scheme that helped.

He regressed and Nagy sees more upside to Foles.

He's not a bust, he would make a decent backup in the league. A bust is someone who doesn't deserve to be on the sideline.

  3. Perfect pick, unbelievable value. A+

Sorry you can't find a top 10 WR with a reasonable salary for 4 years for a 1st or the 4th or a 5th. It's like a mountain of guaranteed gold vs panning for treasure. I'll take the gold every time. It wasn't 2 1st rounders like Sammy who isn't guaranteed to be great, this was a guy who already is great.

    Just a great move.

With Brady leaving, the Jets and Dolphins figuring things out, and two years until we have to pay Josh, what would be your ideal ”All in” front office move to take advantage of these next two years?

The Hooper thing still bothers me as I think we’d have the best offensive weapons in the league and be almost indefensible.

I definitely want a RB in rounds 2 or 3, especially if it’s one of the top 3 guys.

I don’t have a great feeling about Yannick or Clowney, but I think they respect they’d command would make our defense terrifying.

Of the two, I’d prefer Clowney because he can “technically” drop back into coverage and wouldn’t require giving up a pick.

Either way, I’d do a heavily front loaded deal for the first two years that either gives us an out or drops the salary dramatically.

A part of me really wishes we got a Diggs for a second, because I’d really love to be able to trade up for Simmons.

    What’s your “All In?”

There was only 1 other "all-in" move other than Diggs and that WAS Hooper. All of the D acquisitions might help a bit, but Hooper was THE game-changer with Diggs. If he had Hooper we would know absolutely what we have in Allen. As much as I may have said Allen needs improvements I think he would instantly change the offense.

The TEs for the Ravens make it easy on Lamar. We needed that.

Diggs is great and a coup by itself, but Hooper was the complete "all-in" for offense and the team. The only way they could rectify this is a trade for a great TE but I don't see how at this point.

  5. The 13th man (zebras) is always felt in any Cheats game. Until that's gone and the zebras aren't going blind on every holding call I'll still give them the edge.

Pick plays, holding, you name it, they get away with it. This last taping scandal should remove some of their picks this year.

The 14th man (the NFL) wants them to win. They play with too many men on the field on every play.

This is an interesting situation because it could, potentially, really shine a light on the misuse of the franchise tag. I don’t remember many situations where guys have straight up said “I don’t want to be here, and I’m not signing” only to have the team slap the tag on them anyways. The tag was meant to be a bridge to a long term deal, but that’s clearly not the case here.

The tag is also there for the team that invested that pick into you to protect their own interests. The use of tagging isn't just for long-term deals, but for prolonging player capital.

From the player's perspective they can sit out most of the year to fight back.

I can see it from both sides.

  7. We just got the best WR we've had on this team since Eric Moulds and we're worried because we gave up a 4th and 5th rounder for a guy with 4 more years on his contract and he's 26.

We were probably going to use our 1st on a WR anyways, but now we get the best WR we've had in forever.

I swear complaining about this is like the Billy Madison principal who awarded no points for his answer and may God have mercy on your soul.

The Bills have just gave up a boatload of draft picks for a WR.  I admit he is an upgrade for what we currently have, however when a GM named Doug Whaley traded picks for Sammy Watkins, he never lived down that decision. Do you remember why Whaley made the trade? it was to bolster and support a young QB named EJ Manual.  This trade was done for the current young QB Josh Allen.   I hope this works out,  if not, it will be a disaster.  If it doesn't work,  will the fans criticize Beane like they did Whaley?

Let me make this easy for you...

    DRAFT PICK = RISK

    TOP 10 WR = UPGRADE

    Or this could help...

DRAFT PICK WR = small contribution 2020, maybe 2021

TOP 10 WR = immediate high level contribution

We haven’t learned our lesson with early extensions??? Also, how often are GMs really “stole” from other teams?  Beane has done some nice things.  But if Allen doesn’t become a franchise qb, it does at really matter all the other moves he did.  Look at Ryan Pace on the Bears.  He was beloved 2 years ago, now they want him gone.

if the Bills are playing well with a much harder schedule and Allen is performing like a franchise qb, he will get an extension.  But I don’t get the rush to do so now.

I agree with most of this. I think he's shown enough that even if Allen falters we can find a competent guy with this lineup. This is a hard year, but with the defense we have now we'll always be competitive with middle of the road teams.

I get this year was an aberration for weak schedule but we got to the playoffs with a scrub team a few years ago these guys can do it again. It's the right combo and I haven't said on a message board my entire life. It feels bizarre even typing it. Having a team that doesn't suck just feels good.

I mean I watched the Texans game thinking "we could win this." It felt bizarre and exciting. These guys earned a lot of leeway.

Expensive price to pay, a total of 4 draft picks, including a 1st.

Diggs is a versatile, proven commodity with a favorable contract and in his prime.

Its clear Buffalo is looking to make the jump this season and now not only has the best Wr corps in the AFC East, but in the NFL.

Weapons seem to now be everywhere on offense with big play capabilities at every level.

The only question mark I have is Josh Allen and if he's capable of making the step necessary to actually utilize what'sbeen bestowed upon him.

I agree with everything but the price of Diggs. If that's what it costs to have the "best WR" corps in the AFC East that's the cost.

There is no free lunch and we now can see if Allen is starter material. He has a rough schedule but with this lineup we're ready to see him make a monster jump or not. If he does we have a great team for 15 years. That's always worth celebrating. Damn this is exciting...

  11. Ok the genius of this move makes me feel a MILLION times better than losing Hopkins. He's got 3 years left on his contract, proven commodity, won't eat as much cap, and will be an instant #1 WR.

I don't care we lost the picks. I would have given that up for a proven WR. He's our polished NFL ready to go Ruggs for the next 3 years that guaranteed to be a great starter.
