Josh Allen and the next Steps we need him to make to be the best.
Chaos replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
And I just said be realisitic. Most super bowls are won by teams without the best QB that year. No one folliowing the bengals chiefs or eagles is worrired about how mahomes, burrows or hurts is going to get better. It is patently ridiculous to expect more production from the QB position than we have gotten for the last 4 years. Maintaining it is the goal. Is it theorectical possible to improve in some areas yes, but overall there just is no more juices to squeeze from superman. -

People need to get real. We have a QB who produces in the top 3 in the league. In 2021 playoffs against the chiefs he put the team on his back to come back time and time again, only to have the coaches choke away the game in 13 seconds. We should just pray Josh can maintain the current level of productivity and the rest of the team can stop clownshowing the playoffs. -
How long does it take an NFL head coach to reach his 1st Super Bowl?

I will believe you and stand corrected. But I will verify at some future point. -
Terrible to think the Bills role under McDermott is to be Reid's B word. But what is worse, is we are looking more like the Steelers with Big Ben, hoping that Brady and Manning both have an off year.

Lets just agree it is much closer to 100 than to 50 -

Since the thread is only about making the Super Bowl, there are over a 100 samples. -

the amount of room for improvement is miniscule. He could meaningully regress and be a top 5 QB. As I said before if the only way the team can win a championship is for Allen to be the very best quarterback in the leauge, then our chances are slim. -

Allen is mid-career. He has put up record numbers in many regards. His PRODUCTION has been top 3 for a couple of years. The maturation has happened. Bills fans should hope for an be happy if he maintains the current level of production. Many many championships have been won with QBs producing far below Allen's level. The burden is squarely on the coaches to figure out how to close the deal. If the teams championship hopes are limited to Allen being more productive, then our chances are slim and none. -

That’s a good add. What years did he do that? -

The correct question is coach / qb combo. With rare exception since the 70s the answer is four years or less -
People think of me correctly as skeptical of McDermott. I have also posted numerous times that we should expect he is being given a ten year window to succeed On the other hand most coaches in the nfl who are fired are fired with time left on their contracts. In summary management is happy with making the playoffs as the goal. And if that continues McDermott will get a fill Dan Reeves style 9 or 10 years if the Bills make the playoffs I the team implodes and goes backwards, the contract probably does not factor into a retention decision.

No, I picked the only examples I could find. I did not find that Belichek did that for 3 of his many coaching seasons. I assume he stopped doing it because he thought there were better options though. He can certainly be included as an example, but I am not sure it demontrates that this relatively novel concept is consistent with success. -
14/32 teams make the playoffs. The second season is what really matters. The Bills "drought" is an anomaly that is meaningless statistically. but people keep pointing to it that any changes will likely result in another drought.

If the Bills defense got the expected results from the team with the highest payroll and the biggest draft investment in defense, along with a defensive guru for coach then things would have been fine. Its not that the Bills focused too much on defense. The problem is the piss poor ROI the Bills have had on defense. The Bills have had a very good ROI on offense.

What is your point? That Bellichek is not considered the greatest coach of all time? or something else? -
They play the games for a reason. The Bills have the best QB, so I have to give them the edge as the best team too. But if Sahlen or McDaniel pass McDermott this year, it really makes me wonder what trajectory people would see for a post 2023 McDermott led Bills.

Greatest of coach of all time did ok, in the rare few times he called the plays. His teams managed to win super bowls with other DCs too. -

MItch Morse may not be nosey. Ben Volin is almost certainly nosey. Nosey people tend to know more gossip than people who are not nosey. Completely reasonable for a reporter to know something some players don't know. -
