The guy taken in round 2. If 33 year old Jones gets hurt again who’s playing? Literally no one right now. Eli Ankou who they’ve cut 7 times already ?
The value at DT drops much quicker than at WR
This is going to sound snarky but I don't mean it to be:
I would rather have more talent and redundancy at offense than on our D-Line. Full stop.
Having a stout, hard nosed, defense that's full of depth is a luxury in the modern NFL. An effective offense is a requirement. -

Or...move Johnson to Safety and draft a nickle corner. God forbid common sense be used here.
This is what several of us hopped McDermott had fixed within himself this offseason. Odds are We are going to spend money we don't have to for a veteran safety. Move Johnson and or draft one between rounds 4-6.
How would be creating a need by moving a guy who has consistently played at a very high level at a position be common sense?
You have no guarantee that Johnson would be able to play at a high level at safety, and he's a top 3 Nickel CB in the NFL. This idea has about as much common sense as the jabronis on WGR calling for Allen to line up at LB during the playoffs.

Seems like a good idea. Obviously Simmons would be preferable but if you can get Blackmon on a deal I definitely understand it.

We are broke
This is likely going to open up more cap space for this season, so no.

He might have a point about a rookie's first season with a cold weather team, it may take a bit of adjusting, but it's not like they'll never get used to playing in cold weather. That's just ridiculous.

Justin Simmons has 3 years left before reaching the age we released Poyer and let Hyde walk.
3 year deal incoming.
That would be wild and really stabilize the secondary after losing a lot of leadership in the room.

He's constantly on the field and he's been dependable. Probably on the field more than any other Nickel CB.
Seems like a deserved extension.

I can't bring myself to revel in moral victories and what ifs.
The Chiefs beat the Bills both times, have won back to back Super Bowls. Meanwhile, the Bills have yet to reach the Conference Championship.
Saying that the Bills are the closest team to the Chiefs isn't claiming a moral victory, it's just the reality.
Nobody is reveling in anything, at least I'm not.

Analytics guys seem to have loved this signing.
Matt Harmon of reception perception loves this move, I'm not saying his word is gospel, but he was right about Diggs too when we traded for him.

If you want a guy who can take the top off of a defense, this draft is absolutely full of them. Running mostly straight and fast is one of the easiest things a WR can do. That's Hollywood Brown, and he's really not shown much else since being traded.
Know what this draft isn't full of? Deebo-like Curtis Samuel types. The Chiefs were in on him too. Brown is the consolation prize.

The Bills, nor any other team in the league, are not the Chiefs. It's painfully obvious.
The Bills are the closest thing to the Chiefs in the entire NFL and the salt from the losses is clouding your judgement.
They've barely squeaked past us the last two playoff matchups. If the Bills were in the NFC it would be a Bills v. Chiefs Superbowl 3 out of the last 4 years.

In all seriousness , take a look at the active roster, and then tell me if you still think they “should go all offense.”
I understand, but I’d rather have a stellar offense with a middling defense then a balanced offense and defense.
McDermott is supposed to be a defensive guru, so he should be able to do more with less. Otherwise what’s the point?

Anyone who isn’t happy with this signing probably only watches Bills games.
Samuel has produced with straight up trash at QB. Davis has a better statline, but only because he has a great game every 4th game. Samuel is way more consistent.
We raised the floor at WR2 but we didn’t box ourselves into a “Don’t draft a WR because we invested too much in FA”

Shorter won’t even make the team, I’d put money on it.
In the modern NFL you can never have too many premium receivers. It’s the 2nd or 3rd most important position on the team.
They should go all offense in the draft, I’d rather surround Allen with big talent potential then waste picks on D Line rotations and bend don’t break mentality.

I like it so long as we still get a WR R1. He’s a reliable veteran but not all we need.

Undeniable that the Bills need more star power on the roster, but 17 million a year is a lot to spend with Miller still on the books. It sucks though that Buffalo isn’t attractive to FA with amenities.

Was Harris a 1 year deal? Thought it was a two but I could be mistaken.
I could have sworn there was reports that Harris thinking of retiring after that injury, but yes he was a 1 year deal.

You can say the same about everyone except for Diggs, honestly.

I'm getting the sense OBD has no sense of urgency to improve this offseason. Stay the course and hope we're luckier this year won't do it I'm afraid.
This is a ridiculous statement this early into FA and without seeing what we do in the draft.
Is there some FA RB you'd rather have that'll be around the same price as Johnson? I can't think of any.
-
He was a decent enough RB2-3 last season and I'm sure it's a low cost contract. This is what we should continue to do at RB.

The Bills have 11 picks, they need to double down on wr.
They selected Chris Burkett in the 2nd before selecting Andre Reed in the 4th.
They also took James Hardy in the 2nd before taking Stevie Johnson in the 7th.
2 WRs by the end of the 4th would increase the odds of having someone ready to step in and contribute on the outside.
I know it's sort of crazy strategy wise, but I hope there's an appetite in the Bills draft room for drafting a R1 WR and then doing it again in R2.
We did it with EDGE a few years ago and it didn't work out, but it feels way more necessary with WR honestly.

When you've got a DE carousel like McD likes to run, having a guy with 4-5 sacks as your worst option doesn't seem too bad.
If it's cheap then I think it's an all right signing.
