  1. To the original topic, someone should point Earl and Lamar to some tape of Cam Newton over the years. Both behind and ahead of the line of scrimmage, Cam has been beaten on repeatedly over the course of his career, so much so, one could argue, that his career has been significantly shortened. He’s been hit everywhere from his head to his ankles, and has received very little protection from the refs. Thems the breaks. Lamar’s style will inevitably cause him to take a lot of punishment.

I don't think I'm fool proof but I've spent my whole life as a player, scout and coach  and football really is my life and passion

I think Allen is great and I'm so excited about the future and he just needed room to grow correctly

right on and thanks again. I am one of probably many who’s a bit infuriated with all of Allen’s misses deep this year, but I still recognize the strides he’s made in other parts of his game.

No not at all. I think he's improved 10 fold and I'm super excited about his progress

My point was how he still is a better thrower than passer right now and that's ok. He has a cannon that he hasn't fully reigned in yet and the difference is key

Throwers throw strikes, frozen ropes majority

    Passers have innate touch

Both can be effective and both play the game differently. And both can work on weaknesses

Allens deep trajectory is off because he is a thrower naturally

i think you did a great analysis in your OP actually. And you did acknowledge his improvement. Short and intermediate routes, especially over the middle (the in-crossers and digs to beasley and brown most notably) Allen has been pretty much lights out. What is wrong with his passes when guys get behind the defense I am not sure, but you make strong points as to the problem. Good stuff ?

Am I the only one concerned about this? We haven't had a pick 6, fumble recovery for TD, or any kick/punt returns for TD. Is this bad luck? Or a bigger problem? It seems like some teams (Steelers) have been huge with this and its won them some close games. It would be nice if we could get some additional scoring, especially when the offense needs a boost

yes my Concern-o-Meter is reading off the charts on this completely arbitrary and luck-based statistic.

I’m not sure I’d want many TEs blocking a DE one on one, but I see it around the league. Usually doesn’t end well , but it continues. That was Knox’s guy, but he didn’t have much chance.

True. We’ll see. Knox is already credited with 5 drops this season and i don’t think that they’ve counted Sunday yet. I am willing to give him time he’s a rookie after all. Just want to sit back and see the comments around here though if he continues to stone hand easy balls. Hey maybe he should just continue to try to catch with one hand? Seems to work for him.

Well, Knox is a pretty good run blocker not a suspect one. He was also the 96th player selected in 2019 and didn’t catch many passes in college as he wasn’t featured that way. Zay Jones caught a ton of passes in college and was the 44th player selected in the 2017 draft. 52 slots lower of draft position will buy you a little bit of “ rope” with the fans. Essentially , Jones had already proven he had good hands in college but forgot how to catch when he got to Buffalo. He was pretty much a head case.

true on the run blocking. I was mostly thinking of the Allen fumble where Knox got turnstiled and got his QB crushed.

None of us are seeing Duke in practice, and the media doesn't have access either, so we do not know if he's playing poorly there. He could be catching every ball thrown his way in practice. Both are possible. Duke is Schrodinger's cat.  Why he hasn't been active on game day is not definitely "he isn't playing well in practice." We don't know that to be true. All we know for sure is that he must be practicing well enough to not get cut because he's still on the 53 man roster.

What we do know are these things:

—In his one game appearance, Duke Williams played very well. Is this debatable, or do we all agree on this point?

—Dawson Knox leads the NFL in drops, and Tyler Kroft has not made any impact as a Bill

—In the 5 games that Tyler Kroft has been healthy enough to play, he's caught 4 passes for 52 yards.

—Duke Williams is 6'2", which is shorter than this team prefers for TE — but it's still within the range of NFL average height for TE (which is 6'3)... Delanie Walker is 6'0.

No. You can be as rude about it as you like, but that's not definitely true. Duke obviously has the potential to help the Bills passing game. He already displayed that, with this team, this season. He hasn't had the opportunity to repeat. Asking why he hasn't is a perfectly valid question.

See you started out completely correct then went somewhere else.

you know who does see him every day in practice? The coaches. Who decides who’s active on sunday? The coaches. So while you correctly point out that we don’t know, I will continue to trust the guys that have more info than me. Seriously most here seem more than willing to heap praise on McD except when it comes to this poor, poor 6th string receiver that can’t get a shot. Except he did get a shot earlier in the year.

??? Pretty sure you just made it for me. It's outlandish for fans to talk about getting terrible guy 1 out of there so they can see potentially terrible guy 2 instead? Let's just continue to ignore our WR depth completely because we all know that everybody after Beasley sucks anyway?

And if Duke can’t crack the active 46 with terrible, below replacement-level receivers like foster ahead of him, what’s that say about Duke chief?

he’s trash. He belongs back in the CFL.

Bingo to the part in bold. Dude, wrs should be able to separate and get open. Why would you prefer to throw contested pass vs a pass to an open wr? Why? The whole point of throwing a pass is NOT to throw to a guy who's not open. We had a couple of wide open receivers missed and too many dropped balls from OPEN receivers. You think contested throws are a better option?

this exactly. Activating a guy that can’t get open to throw 50/50 balls to all day seems like not a very realistic formula for sustained offensive success. Yet here we are. Every week. The same people. (These people who, btw, do not see Duke in practice, as the coaches do, who are making the (likely) wise decision to park his butt on the inactive list.)

We made him look pretty ordinary.

Someone in the 2nd half thread said he is a great read-option QB, nothing more, and I agree. He looked lost when Andrews went out of the game, and kept throwing to the backup TE who fortunately for them is a good football player.

Hopefully, the book on him is now out. Don't fall for the ball trickery, set the edge, don't overpursue, and eliminate the TE's. Force him to throw long into tight coverage.

    well, he won.
