  1. Mitch is far and away the best backup in the league, played a nice game.

I don’t see how you can let Zimmer get away, guy is fun to watch.

Boogie looked destined to IR.  He’s just not as good as any of the others yet.  Otherwise O’bada looks like a cut.

McKenzie, get this guy on the field, he was killing it out there.

I agree those were some mountain men swinging there......if that woulda been Buffalo security woulda been there in seconds throwing even bigger haymakers!!!

I was an usher through college, got to know the security guys by name, there were some sincere bad asses in that crew.  They took no crap and ALWAYS ended the fight.  The section I had was about 50% season ticket holders and 50% crazies.  Never had to worry about the season ticket holders, they were well behaved. You never knew what was going to happen behind them though.  That was a lot of fun, with a lot of good people and as a bonus, I got paid to be in the stadium on game days.

With all the Covid concerns and the general craziness from people being restricted for so long, I’d be tempted to let them  “ work it out themselves “ more now than ever.

I've said this before on this forum, but...

The split second between the words "Josh" and "Allen" coming out of Roger Goodell's mouth on draft day felt like an eternity. I so badly wanted the pick to be Rosen in that moment (I preferred Mayfield and Darnold, but both were off the board), and I was initially so despondent that the Bills had chosen Allen.

I was an idiot. I mean, I'm STILL an idiot, but....boy oh boy, was I wrong. It is unquestionably the happiest I've ever been to be so wrong in my life.

As for Rosen now? Well...I'm just not sure he's going to get many more opportunities. After you've flamed out with three teams in so short a time after being a 1st round draft picks...not sure how many teams are going to keep taking swings at you.

I second all this.  I was not happy with the Allen pick, but did recognize if he became the one in a million to come from where he was to make it happen, he had no ceiling.  I just didn’t think he would.  Very happy to be sitting here today, very wrong.

id be more curious how they won those. Example - like 5 years ago Atlanta had similar with an insane turnover differential that didn’t tie back to anything meaningful (ie pressure) but mostly lucky bounces. They fell off a cliff predictably. Hell, our own fitz magic season was similar with outcomes not matching underlying indicators that first month.

Without doing a deep dive and just a gut reaction on a couple games I watched, I didn’t get that feeling from the chiefs last year.

Remember (maybe you aren’t this old), the season where Jarious Byrd could not be in the wrong place? He had the ball fall in his lap the minute he walked on the field.  It won the Bills a lot of games by way of “stopping” drives where it was just a random tip that practically got stuck in his face mask.  It happens that teams get a lucky streak, heck a lucky season.  The Falcons that year played in a WEAK division and got a lot of bounces, the next year they got slapped around like they did in the playoffs when they ran into a real team.

The Chiefs have dominated almost every team they have played in the last 2 years and whooped the Bills handedly.  This is not a team that’s gotten by on beating up on garbage teams.  They have had some off days, every team does,  but to look at them and regard them as anything less than the best team in the AFC and arguably the best team in the NFL is just silly.   The Bucs did get hot at the right time and they did catch some major breaks (like virtually the entire Chiefs starting OL being out), and they did win, so if you want to say they are the team to beat until proven otherwise, fine.   There’s still no reasonable argument the Chiefs aren’t the second best team or better.

  5. It’s doable, no question asked.  You HAVE to park right though.  Find a private lot, make sure your turn out of it will be with the flow of traffic to get where you want to go.  You can bob and weave a little around the back roads and make it to 90 pretty easily, especially if you go a little further west, which seems counter intuitive, but the exit directly back to the East is always a ***** show.

if you stay for the whole game and park in a stadium lot, you are asking for it.  Although I have had pretty good success with the lot on the visitor side of the stadium, I can’t recall the road name right off the top of my head, you can get down near the exits to the road and escape that way pretty well, it’s a lot longer walk in vs virtually any other stadium lot, but if you move your butt on the way out, it generally gets you out pretty quick.

Fir real reference, I used to be an Usher at the stadium during my college years, we had to wait for the section to clear, go hand in our stuff and check out, walk to the car etc.  I found that if you took your time, it was about 45mins after the game that I would hit the car, a quick listen to the traffic report and I’d be out of there pretty easily, a lot of times I’d head up to the 190 and connect back to 90, it made it easier.  The only real thorn in your side is weather, when it snows it sucks.

I think you can be at the airport at 5:30, return the car, and get to your plane.

Park in a private lot on Big Tree.   Make it a private lot on the south side of Big Tree, not the north side.  Someplace around Kings Court, or a little past it toward the stadium.   It's about a 15, 20 minute walk to the stadium.

Game's over at 4:15.   Pray for no overtime.  Depending on where your seats are, it will take a half hour to get to the car.  You've parked on the south side of Big Tree so that you can turn right out of your lot, heading east.   The traffic usually is bumper to bumper, but moving okay.  Somebody will always let you into the traffic as you're pulling out.   Drive past California, and past 219.    Usually past 219 the traffic opens up, moves pretty well.   Drive straight through Orchard Park and turn left on 187.   That's Transit Road.   Take Transit all the way north to Genesee Street.  Turn left on Genesee and you're at the airport.

Once you're past 219, the traffic lightens up, and that's only a mile from where you parked.  There's usually a backup in the center of Orchard Park, and you may have wait for the light to cycle through once or twice.  Sometimes I turn right off of Big Tree just past 219, then turn left again, and I can avoid the light.  Past the light, it's always smooth sailing.  And Transit Road traffic, although it gets a little heavy, is never very bad.

Google maps says it's 25 minutes.  If you get to your car at 4:30, even if it takes an hour, you'll be there at 5:30.

I've parked there for years.   I need to get on I-90 to get home, and this route works really well.  I stay on Big Tree all the way to East Aurora, and then I start heading north and east on the back roads all the way to Batavia.  All open road. I get on 90 there, and by then the traffic is heavy but moving at 65-70 mph.

    Great advice

Did <McDermott actually say that?  As if he is happy it hit him?   I thought McDermott was smarter than to say something like that.

That pretty much confirms it. McDermott is making a point to unvacced players.

Yeah, but it sounds like Dion is suffering pretty hard from it too, which is probably the “hitting those that it needs to hit” that he’s speaking of.   I feel for him, it’s not fun. In context to the team, it may not be life threatening for 99.999999% of NFL athletes, but it sure can jack up your season.  If anybody is on the fence about the vax, I’m sure Dion’s condition will be used an example to push them to get it.  NFL careers are short, flirting with fire is probably not worth it.  Guys will have weigh the options and decide what is right for them.   I just hope everyone stays healthy and is able to perform at their best, for themselves and the team’s sake.

I think the plan for him is to either take over LT/RT in a few years and kick one of those guys to guard

It would make a lot of sense for him to take the LT position and move on from Dion, hopefully for decent compensation, before you have to pay him again.   With Josh’s new deal, and the inevitable re work of Diggs, possibly Edmunds etc, money will get tight pretty quick for improvements to the roster in the coming years.

Hope you are back to something like yourself DC. I know my mother (who came pretty close to losing her life to it) still feels 18 months on that she is not back to 100%. It has had some really strange effects like she now can't stand the taste of red wine where before she would drink plenty of the stuff, but it also still disrupts her sleep (which they have put down to PTSD from the ventilator) and has left her with some scarring on the lungs which cause occasional discomfort.

Hey, thank you, I am good at this point.  Sorry to hear about your mom, that sounds really tough.

Hopefully, we are all just over thinking and Dion is simply behind because of the time missed.   One thing I have really learned out of this whole pandemic situation; don’t make assumptions of what others are going through and appreciate your own good fortune.  Keeping that in perspective, helps keep life tolerable.

Spencer Brown, here is the opportunity of a lifetime

It really is a big opening for him, but I really doubt he’s ready to step in yet.  He has never faced anything like NFL competition and was raw at best coming out.   It would be great if he could legitimately plug the hole and even better if he could honestly “take” the job from Dion.  It would allow them to kick Dion in to play guard this year and have an even better line, but again, that’s a HUGE stretch.

Covid only knocked Garrett out of action for two games, but he looked like a shell of himself the rest the season.  As mentioned above it took him a whole offseason with specialists and a ton of hard work to get himself all the way back to what he was.  Obviously we don’t know if Dawkins is in a similar situation or not, but it’s my concern that he is.  And reading what McDermott said about where he is right now does not alleviate any of that concern.

This was my point, I’m FAR from an athlete of their level and I struggled to just get back to “normal”.  Covid is real, regardless of your views about it, ideas on the vax etc.  , it is miserable crap.  I couldn’t believe it took some of these athletes so long to return to action, then I got it and yeah, I get it now.  It’s not as simple as the flu, it can linger for what seems like forever.

Anybody laughing at this hasn’t dealt w Covid.  It took me 3 weeks to be able to get my normal lung capacity back after the rest of the symptoms went away.  I had a mild symptom case, but it was a slow road to full recovery.  I was just trying to get back to my normal gym routine, not compete against the most elite athletes in the world.

I agree with some of this.  They were a 7 win team last year and better QB play they could easily had 10 or 11 wins.

The issue is I think they are even less diverse this year.  It was obvious Cam lacked the arm strength later in the season and once teams started moving up and stacking the box and not fearing the pass - they really struggled to win.  They kept games close, but were not a real threat to win.  I don’t think they get the early season teams backing off - I think teams will say - you have to beat us through the air and down the field - outside.  We are stacking the line of scrimmage and the middle - good luck.

This year they added TEs and look to be even more of a running game team and both Cam and Mac seem to be better at short 3-5 yard throws - meaning 1 incomplete pass kills a drive.  We saw it last evening with Jones - he completed nearly 70% of his passes for a 4.6 yard average.  His couple of throws over 10 yards in the air were incomplete.

He looked just like he did in college - the difference - his WRs are no longer 5* recruits playing against 2-3* players and therefore instead of big gains - they are tackled at 3-4 yards.

I think they struggle early with Cam, but move the ball and eventually flip to Jones and he is a significantly better passer than Cam, but they still struggle to move and they end up around 6-8 wins.  They will be good enough to beat the bottom teams with defense, but will struggle against the better teams and end up well outside the playoff picture.

I can’t quite agree on win total, but I see your point.  The thing is, you can tell people what’s coming and they still have to stop it. They brought in some good talent and they are getting a LOT back on D, so don’t discount that in the W column.   I see them as a real contender for the playoffs, but I do believe that hinges on either Cam is back to a competent QB or Jones has one of those semi-special rookie years.   The issue is, neither is going to be asked to do much and if the Ravens have proven anything, it’s you don’t need a great thrower to make it work.

Regardless of who is closer here, I think we can both agree , the Bills SHOULD, beat them, but the Pats aren’t going to be a great match up if they can execute their game plan.

I see the same record too, but how on earth is anyone gathering what a teams season is going to be from the first actual live hitting preseason game is beyond me...

Teams aren't even putting in their actual offensive n defensive schemes. Just (not saying you) Just overreacting to everything immediately.

I’m not deriving much of anything from a preseason game.  Look at what they added and what they are bringing back and the plan looks pretty clear to me.  They are going to be a tough team this year.

  14. I expect Lawrence to be fine.

Wilson is a wild card, but the odds are against him, so I’d call bust there if I had to.

Lance, I’m just not sure.  I think Shanny can make him look ok, but didn’t see a lot of passing from him, so this is tough.  Heaps of potential, but I’d still say more likely bust than boom.

Jones, I think will be a solid Andy Dalton+ type.

Fields, I don’t know why, but I think has a chance to be above average.  I look for him to be a mid-level starter in the NFL, similar to Tannehill.

  15. Jones looked solid, didn’t seem to get rattled, put the ball where he should in most cases.  They are going to play power football this season and if Jones gets in, I don’t see a real drop off from Cam, outside of running ability.  If Cam does somehow regain his old form, they could be a real tough match up to deal with.

The Pats D is what is going to be the story this year, they added Judon and are getting some guys back, I think you are looking at a top 5 D again, if not top of the league.

It sounds odd to say this, but they built themselves to beat the Bills.  They are strong at everything the Bills are weakest against.   Not surprisingly, the Bills built a team that emulates the most successful teams in the last few years, the Pats tried to get ahead of the league cycle again by constructing a team to stop those teams.   They are going to look to control the clock, pound the rock and rush the passer, with some good talent in the secondary.  They are not going to be fun to play. I think there is a very real chance they are a 10+ win team this year and back in real playoff contention.  If and it’s always a big IF, they can finish drives and get in the end zone early in games, that smash mouth type of game is going to be hard to deal with for a lot of teams who have built the lighter, faster D to slow down the high flying pass games.  They will be tough for the Bills with their emphasis on running and using the TEs a lot, it’s the 2 areas this team is not great at.

  16. Get him 100 reps before the start of the season and call it good.   He’s been around plenty long enough to know his role and the fresher he is, the better.  I hope one of the young guys can actually take a good portion of his snaps away without a meaningful fall off in assignment and he can be fresh and ready to terrorize when he is in.
