  1. If you read a Taylor quote from after the game he says, "we had some run/pass option plays and I saw some lanes open so I took them". I think people are seeing his runs tonight as improvisation. Perhaps to some extent that is true, but most of it isn't. Most quarterbacks don't have "run/pass" option plays outside of college. Baltimore didn't have a single play in it's entire playbook that fit Taylor's style. Roman has an entire system meant for it. I like him to win the competition. As for injury concerns, the guy is very difficult to square up and seems to have a natural feel for pending contact. You can tell he gets very small and low to the ground when contact is looming. I don't think it will be an issue for him.

  2. In regards to yards per attempt averages in this game... (Passing yards+Rushing Yards+Sack Yards/Passing Attempts+Rushing Attempts+Sacks)

    Manuel 7.09 on 11 attempts

    Taylor 6.86 on 14 attempts

    Cassell 5.63 on 8 attempts

    Simms 3.00 on 5 attempts

Realistically, Manuel did play the best. It's just very hard for people to see that. One could say well he had a 51 yard pass going into that data. But it was a perfectly thrown ball and he's probably the only guy on the roster that can make that throw. Factor in the drops and he should have been north of 9.0 YPA. Manuel played better then people are giving him credit. Another consideration, more attempts, more stabilization in data. So Taylor gets a bump in that regard as likely having the most stabilized stat line of the 4 in this particular sample. I like what my eyes saw out of Cassell but I don't like this line. He won't improve it with his legs. I don't see him besting EJ in the long passing game. His best area for growth over EJ and Taylor seems to be in the 10-20 yard passing window but Roman throws passes in that box at one of the lowest clips in the NFL. Plus if you go with Cassell you lose all running ability from the QB spot. I don't like that limitation and I don't think Roman does either.

  3. I would blame the Bills more than CJ if he's going to get labeled a bust. He was picked too early. A lot of mocks had him mid teens. Under that criteria, he would probably just fit the mold of average rate of production for that draft slot. He had one great year, a couple good ones. Injuries have plagued him. He has certainly spent some years in the wrong system. NO was the perfect fit system wise, I was very curious to see what he could do in NO. Hope it's not bad.

  4. Please don't give me that ESPN Total QBR nonsense.

Take the total amount of plays for every QB in the NFL, add the running yards and the passing yards together and divide. When your done come back and tell me how Kaep ranked last year. I suppose your going to call yards per attempt, the highest correlated statistic to points scored in the NFL crap as well.

  5. Until defenses shut that crap down and make him beat them from the pocket like they did with Kaep in SF.

I think any of us would take 19 TD's/10 INT's, 14th Total QBR, 639 yards rushing with a 6.1 AVG. Luck was only one ranking higher in total QBR and Kaep was higher rated than Newton. If we get anywhere near that production we will certainly make the playoffs. This notion of teams "figuring out" Taylor is not based on Romans offense which has a ton of wiggle room for a mobile QB based on a scheme that isn't afraid to fully utilize the QB or the RB in the natural run game.

  6. Brady can look average if you can pressure him which is why Rex has done so well against him. We have the best coach in the NFL to defend against him and likely the best defensive personnel to play against him. If you look historically Seattle has one of the top 10 defenses of all time. I'm not going to say we have the best defense in the NFL so long as Seattle has it's core intact. But I do think we have the best defense and strategy in the NFL to beat Brady.

  7. The read option at the start of the 2nd quarter is why I think he will start. People keep saying teams will figure him out and he won't be able to run. Kaepernick doesn't exactly throw a football thru a a tire with accuracy. Great arm sure. TT has enough arm. On that read option he picked up 20+ yards in about 4 seconds and it looked like it had the ease of a high school game. His legs are going to be used for much more then scrambles. His read option forces some serious stress on defenses which already has to worry about McCoy and 4 YAC oriented WR's. I've called for him to start since we signed him and I'll stick to it.

  8. Just curious, are you originally from Buffalo? If not, what made you become a Bills fan?

Not sure about him, but a lot of 31-38 year old out of state Bills fans that started following football as kids during the best of the Kelly years. I think most learned to appreciate more than just those teams, but everything the team and the fans represented. Once you become a Bills fan you just don't stop. In state or out. As far his comments, I don't know. I think Buffalo from the outside in seems like it could be a difficult but rewarding place to play. Difficult from a lack of huge market exposure but huge market expectations, rewarding from how revered Bills players can become locally. You can play good football and retire for a lot of teams and fade off into the distance. Most Bills that play good football become legends.

  9. As for Darby Game 1, I will take him against Hilton. Not Johnson. Week 2, he matches up well with New England's wide outs. Hopefully McKelvin is back again and Darby can keep developing. With the way he stays with his man he would be a great Nickle corner this year as he develops. I'm not sure if Rex switches corners, but I'm not overly worried about Darby vs speed right now. I am worried about Darby vs size.

  10. Let TT be himself. He runs a sub 4.5. Be a shame not to run. He't not a run only guy. He will keep his eyes downfield. He just doesn't have any issue gashing you with his legs if you give him the option. He also tends not to get smoked when tackled. Very elusive guy. Closest comparison is Vick when he was with Atlanta. TT isn't as athletic as Vick but it almost doesn't matter when you reach TT's level of athleticism. His maturity and experience are better than Vick. I also think Vick intended on running, didn't even consider options downfield at times. That was his downfall. I feel TT starts pass at all times. If he runs, he has a good feel for the pocket, either exploding out decisively or slowly moving around and keeping his eyes downfield. Big play machine.
