  2. Schotenheimer will stay STATEMENT OF DEAN SPANOS President and Chief Executive Officer San Diego Chargers “I have decided that Marty Schottenheimer is the best person to lead the Chargers in the 2007 season. General Manager A.J. Smith and I agree on this fundamental point. That is why we are pleased to welcome Marty and his coaching staff back for Marty’s sixth season as head coach of the San Diego Chargers. “We are all bitterly disappointed how this season ended, but we can’t allow our disappointment to cloud the achievements of our franchise over the past few years. Only two teams have won more regular season games over the past three years than the Chargers. We have 24 key players under long-term contracts through at least 2009. This is a fine young team, with great chemistry, and right now stability is important for this team. I’m already looking forward to next season. “That is why we are also offering one-year contract extensions for Coach Schottenheimer’s staff, through 2008. We also offered a one-year $4.5 million contract extension to Marty, with a team option buy-out of $1 million for the 2008 season. He decided not to accept this extension, and I respect his decision.
  3. Tom and Gisele -How Will Brady's Coach React? As long as Tom Brady is happy, Bill Belichick is happy. But I think we can expect Belichick to demand that Gisele fly her mother up here from Brazil so he can commence wooing her.
  4. London first host The NFL received interest from several German cities, but settled on London for the first game. "There is no better place to begin this initiative than London," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday. "It is one of the great cities of the world with an established and growing fan base for our game." The venue and teams for next season's game will be announced later. NFL owners voted in October to play up to two games outside the United States every season for the next five years. The international series will kick off with the game later this year in London. Britain, Canada, Germany and Mexico have been identified as the top markets for NFL games outside the United States. China and Japan were ruled out of the running. While the London venue hasn't been announced, the favourite option is the new Wembley Stadium, which is due to open this spring after years of delays.
  5. Broken Fingers Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck revealed Monday that he played the final eight games of the season with broken fingers on his non-passing hand. Hasselbeck said he sustained non-displaced fractures of two fingers on his left hand against Green Bay on Nov. 27. That was his first game back following a four-week absence from a sprained knee. "It wasn't fun," Hasselbeck said while he and his teammates cleaned out their lockers upon returning from Sunday's overtime loss at Chicago in the NFC divisional playoffs. "You appreciate what your teammates go through, because I know there were guys on our team who had the same injury who didn't get the attention or sympathy that I got." Earlier this month, Seahawks offensive coordinator Gil Haskell acknowledged that Hasselbeck's hand bothered him on snaps and when he was hit

  9. Whisenhunt hired by Cardinals Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, one of the hottest candidates during the current NFL hiring cycle, has signed a four-year contract to become the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Whisenhunt will be introduced as the successor to Dennis Green at a Tuesday news conference. Financial details of the contract -- which includes a team option for a fifth year -- were not yet available. Based on what the Cardinals have paid coaches in the past, Whisenhunt probably will earn an annual salary in the $2.5 million range.
  10. The Pirate Bay Swedish file-sharing website The Pirate Bay is planning to buy its own nation in an attempt to circumvent international copyright laws. The group has set up a campaign to raise money to buy Sealand, a former British naval platform in the North Sea that has been designated a 'micronation', and claims to be outside the jurisdiction of the UK or any other country. According to a website set up to secure the purchase of Sealand, The Pirate Bay plans to give citizenship of the micronation to anyone willing to put money towards the purchase. "It should be a great place for everybody, with high-speed Internet access, no copyright laws and VIP accounts to The Pirate Bay," the organisation claims on its website www.buysealand.com. -interesting...

  13. When its all said and done, if next year Willis stays healthy has a good year and the Bills do well his comments will be quickly forgotten or said to be misquotes, or quotes taken out of context from a magazine writer. Clearly it was a foolish decision by either him or his agent for him to participate in a article in such a magazine, particularly a player wishing to either sign a lucrative contract extension or be signed as free agent by another team when he has option to do so. No team wants public relations problems. It would be wise of Willis as soon as possible to clarify his comments and apologize for any hurt or misunderstanding they may have caused.
  14. Washington does sound like a possibility. Cant imagine him wanting to play for a non contending team or team that at least has chance to contend. If no offer comes from a contending team where he could start, it would not surprise me that he would have place in New England as a backup thus ending his career where he started ending his career with some class.

  17. Michael Strahan A judge sacked Michael Strahan’s bank account Friday, ordering the Giants defensive end to pay his ex-wife Jean a whopping $15.3 million, plus hundreds of thousands in child support, as part of their divorce, according to a decision released today. Essex County New Jersey Judge James Convery blasted Strahan in the written ruling, saying that the arguments he gave to get out of paying up lacked "any credible evidence." Convery held the gapped toothed-grid great to the letter of a pre nuptial agreement he signed with his wife, in which he agreed to pay her 20-percent of his assets for each year of their marriage and give her half of his total assets. -Yikes....
