Fitz is an inspirational player and at his best on short crossing routes. We’re exposed here this week, in a big way. I’m convinced it will take a rare back to back great performance by Josh Allen to leave south Florida with a win.

I fear it’s not gonna happen..

Fear not, we will prevail,  Fitz will be trying all to hard to compensate for the week one loss, he faces a must win game and he is bound to pooch this game as he prone to do. We got this, our coaches are good our players are good. We take care of business and we get the win. 👍

I really can't stand his arbitrary grading system.

All grading systems are arbitrary, made up by some guy or guys, why in-fact all labeling done by humans on any topic is in the end arbitrary. This argument is kinda silly imo. Joe offers his view like is done  by a multitude of people who do this for a living nation wide, no one is required to agree with his every point.

I didn't say he knows NOTHING about football.

There's a difference between understanding and enjoying football as spectator or fan and understanding it on a deep enough level to be able to analyze coach's tape.

As far as expecting it to be "authoritative"...Joe B gets paid for this. The assumption from the reader would therefore likely be that he knows what he's looking at and is some sort of expert.

People are perhaps taking my question to mean more than it does. As I said, I like Joe B and I pay for a subscription to The Athletic. I was simply asking what makes his opinion of the All-22 worth any more than, say, mine or ScottLaw's?

That he is good enough at this football thing to make a living by being employed as a sports reporter by one of the highly regarded outfits is a step ahead of you, me, Scott, and the rest of us here, 😁 that alone adds gravitas to his opinion, in other words he does it full time for a living, not after work, and on weekends when the lawn work is done, 😁 that’s why most sports reporters voices are considered to have some level of authority. It is then up to us individually to agree or disagree with the points of a reporters review, but that has not changed since football started.

I recall the NFL world drooling over Mayfield after his first few starts as well.

Since then, it's been a pretty up-and-down journey.

Defenses eventually adjust.  Coordinators will discover Burrow's weaknesses, and then start taking away what he does best.

Then it will be on Burrow to improve his game and continue developing.  It's not about being successful as a rookie.  It's about being successful over the long haul.

Just look at Josh Allen.  In his first season, he was an absolute All-Pro running the ball.  But he struggled pretty badly as a passer.

As a sophomore, coordinators switched things up and those running lanes weren't so wide open.  Allen was forced to do more with his arm, because teams weren't just going to let him run wild every game.  The times he struggled the most were against defenses who played heavy Cover 0 looks and crowded the box, and when opponents dared him to make plays downfield.

One of best moments from Sunday was on Allen's touchdown pass to John Brown.  He quickly recognized the Jets in Cover 0, audibled to a new play at the line, and then proceeded to make the scoring play.  Allen wouldn't have made that play early in his career.

    That’s pretty much what I said, 👍

  5. Its yet another embarrassing blunder by the zebras, so the league disappeared it. That footage is the Property of the NFL, so they can do whatever the F they want to do with it.  Luckily it did not change the outcome, time to move on, cannot say that I have heard of this problem before...,  it’s gotta be a pretty rare occurrence. We fans have zero rights on this issue. Or in legal speak we have no standing.

Yes you are, 😁 Your ideal QB appears to be a game manager. Now that’s okay if you like boring football, it’s a “game” after all, it’s supposed to be exciting and entertaining, while winning. You need a beer and a fatty in the worst way, nuthin but luv ng,

I think you're right about this.  Guys CAN and DO move back and forth, but they are veterans.  Any young guy in the league needs to learn to survive and thrive at one position; that's when flipping to a related position makes more sense.  So what they've done with Ford isn't ideal.

However, I still think many people here are underrating Ford.   He's a big-time talent, and pretty much all offensive linemen need time to learn to play in the league.  I think he will prove more difficult to move out of the starting lineup than people here expect.

For different reasons, around here Ford is the whipping boy on the offensive line that Murphy has been on the defensive line.  All of a sudden people are saying, "Wow, Murphy is better than I thought."  I think people will be saying those things about Ford a year from now, or less.

Totally agree, it is amazing to me so many think there is no learning curve for 1st and 2nd year players, the learning never stops for players who are considered quality players at any position.

  8. Murphy was coming off injury when we signed him, and the coaches knew full well it would take some time to get up to par, as is usual it takes far longer to heal and be in top game day shape than most fans can tolerate.  There abouts a quarter of the way through last season he really started playing noticeably better and has shown to be staying at a high level of performance since then, SM said as much in PCs in the recent past. A lot of folk here get all riled up about his money, and act as if it’s coming out of their own pockets. Frankly I don’t give a flying “F” what any of these guys get paid (top 5% in wages nationally) as long as they play well, and he does.

We have a good D and there is no reason to be getting rid of quality contributors.

Fair enough.  I think it was a worthy discussion and a lot of valid points supporting and to chill.  Let's see how this year goes.

I do believe that your thoughts on having a more stout run game is absolutely essential to the teams future success, I feel that the progression to get there has not been smooth over the last three seasons.

    Go Bills!!!

  10. Aldo, the 2018 team had virtually no O line, or receiving threats, and almost zero QBs that were ready to start. Can you say “the results of the strip down of a rebuild” no surprises there.

The 2019 team was actually a real team, but with obvious flaws, yet made the playoffs, this season the team is much better all around, and has played all of one game, and running the ball was not the game plan for that game.

So with the history and reasons well known the past poor performance is explained. Our running game last season was ranked 8th league wide iirc?

Now going forward, if the running game is not improved there is then something to talk about.  I would say that it matters more that the points are scored than who is scoring them, resulting in wins of course.  We are going to be okay when it comes to our RB room carrying its weight this season. I think that game plans for given opponents will change the emphasis as to which group will do the scoring from game to game. I do believe that Singletary and Moss will

be more of the emphasis in Miami.

Nothing. You can't fix what's lacking between the ears.

Also, I wouldn't give up on Darnold just yet. He has had zero stability and consistently awful coaching. He may be OK with the right situation.

    This ^^^

I’ll  certainly agree that Gase and Co are a sh-t show for sure, and that is not benefiting Darnold.

But some folk are good in a classroom, but are poor in transferring that knowledge into a practical application setting. When I ran a bicycle shop we had customers who were Pratt and Whitney engineers, a couple of which couldn’t change a flat tire on their racing bikes to save their own lives, they knew the steps required, had seen it demonstrated repeatedly, but would almost always puncture the new tube at some point while installing it.  It is what it is with some folk. Darnold as smart as he is may be one of those guys.
